Reviews for Urbana Landmark Hotel

Review 1:no breakfast heating unit was either on (very hot) or off and the room got cold. windows leaked drapes to long for windows covered up the hvac unit.

Review 2:Neat old world feeling

Review 3:Staff was un-courteous, not helpful, and just plain rude. The property itself was not clean and in disarray everywhere with trash piled up and set about, floors not swept, etc. and the room was not adequately cleaned or prepared.

Review 4:The only redeeming thing about the whole experience was the somewhat original architecture and décor.

Review 5:The hotel was straight out of a Scooby Doo mystery. There was even a suit of armor in the lobby. We could hear guests, but never saw them. Every hall had flickering lights and there was even graffiti stating "I'm going to kill you" in the stairwell. The booking stated there would be a continental breakfast, but there wasn't one. It seems to be run by one man and one woman...no maids, maintence workers, etc. It is clear that this used to be a beautiful hotel, but now is quite rundown.

Review 6:The place was really cheap and in a good location. If you are just looking for a place to crash, it will be fine for that.

Review 7:Nothing that bad, just nothing above average.

Review 8:Located near Black Dog (great BBQ), Courier Cafe, (top bkst spot in Cham-bana) Plenty of parking, it's a very surreal place with not a lot of people around.

Review 9:Staff not particularly friendly. Hotel is not clean. Front desk is not manned late at night, possibly understandable. But not at 8:30 in the morning? No coffee in lobby or room. Heat was broken in room. I was offered another room but nio help in resituating.

Review 10:Price and location

Review 11:felt somewhat dingy and run down - asian staff notoriously sanguine

Review 12:decent but nothing good - cool if you're into creepy old buildings with character

Review 13:Way over-priced for Dad's Weekend at U of I. Hotel is very old and dark. Most of the time there is no one at the front desk. The door to the "lounge" had a chain and pad lock on it. Would only stay here again in an extreme emergency.

Review 14:Location in Urbana is good.

Review 15:Hotel bar was not open. Ladybugs and some flies in the room. Front desk staff were young kids or nonexistent.

Review 16:Unique hotel, medieval decor, close to U of I campus for Dad's Day weekend.

Review 17:The front desk was left unattended many times. The hotel was clearly short staffed for the weekend. Beverage/snack vending was no where to be found in the hotel. The décor and amenities are extremely outdated.

Review 18:The location was close and convenient to the U of I college campus and restaurants. Ample parking.

Review 19:No one there when we checked in or out. Just a phone number to call. Dirty sheets with visible stains. Could hear neighbors in adjoining room.

Review 20:Great location and big rooms.

Review 21:The building and facilities was very rundown it looks like it needs lot of money to upgrade only one of the three elevators work

Review 22:The beds are very clean and very comfortable

Review 23:The rooms and hallways were dark, had a bad odor. Staff usually had to be summoned to front desk. Beds were uncomfortable. Overall, I would not recommend it.

Review 24:Washrooms were clean.

Review 25:dark, dreary , furniture was gross , windows ac did not work, no cabs , needs serious updating , felt very unsafe at times due to the darkness, it needs to be redone, you could keep the authencity but glam it up

Review 26:location to downtown champaign and the price

Review 27:Hotel smelled like mold...no light bulbs in hallways or room...food from previous guests left in mini fridge and everytime I went to front desk...including trying to checkout. .there was nobody there !!!! just left keys on desk !!!!

Review 28:No amenities besides Wi-Fi, microwave and frig in room.

Review 29:I rated this hotel "good" despite the fact that there is no breakfast, the bar is closed and the pool is empty. I could tell it was a beautiful landmark hotel in its day but has fallen on economic hardship. But the rooms were very clean and comfortable. And the location was great. I liked its querkiness and would stay again.

Review 30:Indifferent staff--no one at the front desk to check out--phones not working right. They said that the bar wouldn't be open for a month. No kitchen, no food. Very dim lighting with bluish leds.

Review 31:This is a beautiful old hotel that has run-down quite a lot. Shabby, full garbage cans sitting near the elevator, only one elevator working...but wait, this is the good part!

Review 32:Website states free breakfast, there was none. Website states on premises bar, not open. Was not well kept, could be a great destination historical hotel but they need to revamp and remodel.

Review 33:Could be an awesome historical hotel with great bones.

Review 34:Booking.com said the room included breakfast but it does not. They donot have a "contenental breakfast" for guests. Also theelevator and our room had both had water damage in the past and bothsmelled of mildew.

Review 35:The air conditioning was not working and there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Also, the front desk personnel was not very friendly.

Review 36:It was very convenient.

Review 37:Kind of creepy, like a hotel in a horror movie: You scream at thecharacters "Don't go in there! Haven't you ever seen ahorror movie?!?" Indistinct lighting in lobby, managed by a youngChinese woman (actually very nice) with relative in side room watchingloud Chinese television. Rooms smelled old. Cigarette holes in sheets. The cheapest of everything in the "renovated" room.

Review 38:Extremely funky in a not-meant-to-be-funky way. Suit of armor, gothicdetails, statues, marble busts, elk head, elk horn chandeliers

Review 39:Location. Next to Lincoln Square. Blocks away from a 24 hour Schnucks Grocery and Express gasoline. Entire 3rd floor was non-smoking and it smelled like it was non-smoking.

Review 40:A.c. was not on and was really hot in my room all night. Water dripped from light fixture when it rained. Sink didn't drain. Breakfast was a joke

Review 41:Not a whole lot to like about this place. It's a very old building and had neat woodwork, but that's about it.

Review 42:We had to walk a long way to and from our room and the lift to the lobby was broken. The air conditioner was broken in our room (it was 86 degrees). We had to move rooms. Staff was mostly unavailable. Breakfast consisted of basically bread and sausage. Coffee was very watered down.

Review 43:Bed was comfortable

Review 44:Creepy. I think we were one of maybe two guests in the whole huge hotel. The shower head was broken -unable to take a shower. Stayed partially for the advertised free breakfast as we needed to getup and be t an early funeral nearby. There was not only no breakfast there was NO ONE at front desk (at 8:30am)-- the whole lobby are was eery and dark, no lights, no staff working--could have heard a pin drop. Creepy to know no one was there all night and front lobby wide open

Review 45:Location for next day

Review 46:There are no facilities at this hotel and the breakfast is non existent with the only thing really available coffee and powdered creamer. At over $200/night (tax included) could be forgiven for expecting more. If you have to stay in Urbana and nothing else is available you will be all right here once you know what to expect.

Review 47:The room was clean and the bed comfortable with fresh clean bedclothes.

Review 48:Was dark and empty and there were times when there weren't even staff visible. Room was very oddly furnished. It looked like it had been worked on, but the carpet and floor molding was very unfinished.

Review 49:The location was excellent for our meeting in Urbana, adjacent to several fine restaurants in downtown Urbana. We were disappointed that they didn't have breakfast, but then happy that it pushed us out to a very nice cafe a block away. It was very clean and comfortable.

Review 50:I was dissappointed the bar wasnt open. That was one reason I chose this hotel. They shouldnt say there is an "on site bar" when they dont even use it.

Review 51:The bed was comfy.

Review 52:The card room keys were five dollars to replace if lost, although they were computer chipped for higher security. The check-in is a little awkward but still was accomplished satisfactorily.

Review 53:Half timbered and stuccoed walls, dark oak woodwork, and old world charm are updated in a comfortable hotel located in the middle of Urbana, Illinois. Just around the corner from quaint shops in multiple restaurants, this location is an easy walk to the university of Illinois campus through a beautiful residential neighborhood.

Review 54:I booked the hotel 3 months in advance due to a marathon in town and when I arrived they only had me down for 1 room instead of 2 and luckily someone had cancelled or we would not have a had a second room. The one room was not cleaned and the heat and air would not work. My room the air quit working and we had to be moved to another room later that night. This hotel needs to do a lot of upgrades to it heating and electrical if it wants to keep customers.

Review 55:The look of the hotel is nice but don't let it fool you

Review 56:I felt like I was alone in the hotel. It was creepy. I was there 3 nights and didn't see another person until the 2nd night. I probably only saw 6 hotel "guests" the entire time. Only saw 1 person (a young woman) at the front desk from Thursday to Sunday.

Review 57:It was quiet. The bed was comfortable and sheets /towels were nice.

Review 58:The room was dirty in the sense that there was plaster or some substance caked to the carpet and paint on all the trim. The ac/heat was impossible to control.

Review 59:The bed was great and the pillows were awesome! It served its purpose as a place to lay my head. The location was good

Review 60:It has potential to be an amazing place. But because many parts are run down it only ranks as interesting.

Review 61:In the heart of downtown Urbana with good restaurants and bars with live music in walking distance.

Review 62:The hotel needs new carpet--I tripped over several snags in the carpet, needs painting on the walls and just a good spruce up.

Review 63:The decor is really neat.

Review 64:at first the guy at the desk had trouble finding our reservation and guest started to backup behind us. when we got back after normal check out time our key didn't work and I had to go all the way back to the front desk(no fun after 26.2 miles) to get re-keyed. also they need to either fix the pool and lounge or take them out.

Review 65:Four of us needed a hotel for the Ill marathon so we needed something close and affordable. We got more than that. they had no problem giving us a late check out and the rooms were clean with very comfortable beds.

Review 66:TV had NO input. Even with cable connected. Toilet chain broke on the first flush. Breakfast was VERY disappointing; no fruit or even plates. Staff not particularly friendly.

Review 67:Great location, comfy bed, beautiful building with lots of possibilities

Review 68:Very large hotel but seemed empty.

Review 69:Interesting decor based on medieval motif. We were waiting for a ghost to appear. On our way out we think we saw him.

Review 70:Rooms weren't clean. Very limited TV channel choice. There was no one at the front desk the morning we checked out. We were told there was a breakfast available but that area was completely dark Sunday morning.

Review 71:Where to begin? General absence of staff. Poor language skills of staff. Absence of staff. The leaky, broken window. The barely-working room heater. Cold hallways. The general feeling of neglect, dilapidation and gloom.

Review 72:The hot water and the comfortable bed.

Review 73:ROOMS VERY COLD! We changed rooms and still had to buy a space heater to sleep in warmth. Alnost slept in the car. No one at front desk to complain to in the morning. Should have received a discount or free.

Review 74:We loved the location. It is a beautiful hotel!! I booked it because the online photos are lovely.

Review 75:There is much to be renovated. Understand the work....need someone with clearer English understanding at the desk.

Review 76:The room was quiet and clean and warm (after help) would return!!!

Review 77:Heat didnt work in first room. Sock on floor in 2nd room, fridge warm, body wash smelled old, needs to work on one room at a time, every door open to rooms. Not secure at all, pool sauna not working, said renovation 2010, and was still going on. Customer service horrible, when I checked in nothing was explained to me, ie location of room, breakfast ect, an the next morning breakfast was sausage, bread, a box of cereal, coffee, but no sugar, just sweet n low, and no milk. Could be more revenue with right person running it, sad to see all that history wasted, as I was quite sure from my visit, I was more then likely the only guest, and I would not return. There was a vegetable juice in fridge, use by date was 6 months prior to my stay. I dont believe the owners want to make anything out of this hotel except a home for them, with occasional visitor. Had banquet facility, but was not functionable, restraunt closed at all times. Sad to see history, glad when it was time for check out. I should of read reviews before making reservation, and I guarentee you no one will return after a stay there

Review 78:It seemed like no one was even staying at the place. And obviously it's still being worked on. No bar was available and no breakfast. Oh well. It was OK.

Review 79:Very good location. Comfy bed and nice room.

Review 80:(god she knows)

Review 81:location close to university

Review 82:Location

Review 83:The owner closed the bar and gave up their liquor license.

Review 84:Room was clean and comfortable

Review 85:Elevator smells!

Review 86:Location is perfect. Cleaner than expected.

Review 87:I got a flu from all the dust everywhere

Review 88:Nothing

Review 89:Good

Review 90:Everything the place is a joke and so is its staff

Review 91:Norhing

Review 92:No air conditioning.. Staff not available. One man show. Completely over priced. Would not reccomend or stay there again.

Review 93:everything... i don't spend money again..

Review 94:nothing

Review 95:The front desk was very unorganized. Communications were tough for all

Review 96:The history was great.

Review 97:The old building was beautiful yet dark and in need of some updates. We skipped breakfast $4.95 each and not much there!
