Reviews for Hotel Wilhelmina
Review 1:All interior is old, and there was not even a kettle in the room. The room was small and had fixed cracks in the walls all around. The heater in the room did not work. Asked for a double bed, got two single beds next to each other.. Too expensjve for what we got.
Review 2:Staff was friendly, breakfastbuffet was good, location is close to the station, bathroom was small but nice.
Review 3:No double beds available in this hotel. Beds are really very bad, bad smell in corridors, elevator and staircases. Very outdated hotel, really needs renovation and new furniture.
Review 4:Great location opposite station close to city centre.
Review 5:Furniture needs a renewal.
Review 6:The hotel smells "dusty", but it isn't. Once the window opened, it's fine. Restaurant quite nice, breakfast ok if not expecting too much.
Review 7:Basic rooms. But for a night stay, fine. And not to expensive as well.
Review 8:Location is good. Although street noise when the window is open. Breakfast was ok.
Review 9:The noise of the washing machine at 11 PM and 7 AM. The wardrobe is too small for two people. No coffee making facilities in the room. Our room facing a busy roundabout was rather noisy when we opened the window.
Review 10:Excellent breakfast, cosy breakfast room, clean room and bathroom, friendly staff, near the city centre. Free parking and Wifi.
Review 11:I feel a little bit cold in the room and tried to turn on the heater but it did not work. I expected the bath tub in the room (as included in the reservation page) but there was only a shower. But I only stayed one night and it was enough.
Review 12:Just in front of the Venlo station, you can just check in and drop your stuff and head to the De Koel for the match. The internet connection was very easy and good, and breakfast was nice.
Review 13:Room was a bit threadbare. Pricey given the standard. No air conditioning.( Venlo was experiencing a heat wave while I was there.)
Review 14:Staff friendly. Located across the plaza from the rail station. Short walk into commerical centre of town.
Review 15:carpets on stairs and landin need replacing.
Review 16:staff getting my breakfast ready really early allowed me to catch my train. Great!
Review 17:great price for the rooms. and an awsome breakfast which was included in the price! Just great!
Review 18:Good location. opposite Venlo railway station
Review 19:The rooms could use updating.
Review 20:Directly outside the train station. Well located and easy to find.
Review 21:In desperate need of refurbishment .
Review 22:Location
Review 23:None at all.
Review 24:Everything - including free parking and Wifi.
Review 25:Couldn't reach WiFi
Review 26:Location Price Privat parking Atmosphere of the old duch hotel "with history"
Review 27:No kettle in rooms
Review 28:Old hotel with character
Review 29:Standard of the room, bathroom and breakfast. Heating system notworking. Taking shower takes ages.
Review 30:Location. Parking.
Review 31:Very tired looking hotel. I paid for an upgraded bigger room and it was very old and not clean. The bed was ancient and the carpets worn out. I also had to travel along was from reception to get to it. I was on a 3 day touring trip and this was the worst hotel by far.
Review 32:It's location was convenient
Review 33:This is a tired old place, located on a busy roundabout. The lads hanging around the station plaza combine with the taxis idling downstairs and the buses coming off the roundabout to give constant low-level noise. The reception staff hardly raised a greeting and the promised wi-fi was temperamental (the only time in northern Europe we've ever had this problem). Breakfast was fine, but overall this is not a €95 hotel. Maybe €60 could be justified at a pinch, but only stay here if you really have to. It seems they are in an arrangement with the other hotels in town (Puur and American). I guess this keeps prices high.
Review 34:It is handy for the railway station. The town is 5-10 minutes walk away.
Review 35:Hairdryer didn't work and person on reception didn't seem too bothered when I reported it. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room and the beds were a bit soft.
Review 36:Good location right opposite the station. Good breakfast. Room was basic but clean.
Review 37:large-ish room rather bare / sparse, no easy chair to sit in poor view from window straight onto another building.
Review 38:restaurant/bar free internet breakfast bathroom location.
Review 39:Smoke smell in bathroom (possibly through air pipes, from another room where someone smoked). The soft drink I bought from the machine was expired for 8 months (reimbursed by the receptionist).
Review 40:Cleanliness Proximity to train station Nice staff
Review 41:Simply too old ( foregone glory) and not a standard any hotel in 2013 should be for its still favorable price. Refurbishing the rooms maybe ?
Review 42:Free parking included.
Review 43:No coffee making facilities in the room !
Review 44:Nice clean room . Comfy beds . Lovely large bath and shower room . Lovely cooked and continental breakfast . Ideally situated for the town and right opposite the train station. Lovely bar . A touch expensive though in the bar x
Review 45:a bad smell outside of ur room . i can guess its from the old carbet which is everywhere,,, we arrived around 3 in the morning we ask for water cause everything was close to go and buy ,, Hotel charge us 5.50 eur for 500ml bottle of water
Review 46:spacious room with big bathroom amazing location oposite central station , u just need to cross the road . Very helpfull staff
Review 47:Old and dated, if you are on a motorcycle the auto barrier for the car park will not lift so you either squeeze through the small gap or park get of and try and get a member of staff to open it with a key, I managed to squeeze through the gap on a big adventure bike so I would say the parking is not that secure for bikes
Review 48:Easy to find, good breakfast, 2min walk to the restaurants and town square
Review 49:Bathrooms need a serious upgrade.
Review 50:Location, location, location! Fantastic for the purpose of both visiting my relatives who live in and around Venlo as well as great shopping.
Review 51:- The wireless internet was on and off- The furniture is old. - Our room heating was turned off during the day (even if we left it on 3.5 / 5 when we left, at night when we came back it was on 1) - and all these, even if we didn't leave the "Clean my room" message on the door knob!!! - We had a booking fee deduction because we were participating to an event in Venlo, but the receptionist acted as he didn't know what we were talking about. After insisting and giving him lots of details regarding the event, he suddenly remembered!
Review 52:The breakfast is already included in the booking fee
Review 53:Room was small, no drawers to put things into, poor wardrobe facilities for hanging clothes and we were staying 5 nights, bathroom toilet had water running all the time. Breakfast was not very good.
Review 54:Staff were nice
Review 55:The Venlo train station was right across the street, making this hotel very convenient. We had a car, so did not come by train, and they had free parking in the back.We did walk across the street to use the shuttle bus from the train station to Floriade. Our room was clean and roomy for the 3 of us. Also, breakfast was included in our price.
Review 56:No courtesy tray but you can gey a jug of hot water from the bar staffat no extra charge.
Review 57:Good accomodation. Good breakfast variety. Nice, helpful staff
Review 58:Cosy, quaint old hotel with large spacious simple clean rooms & friendly staff, opposite train station & bus connections. Venlo is a lovely small town with plenty of shops, cafes & bars, also interesting to just walk the cobbled streets & view the old buildings etc...
Review 59:The staff when you could find them were not very communicative. Seldom anyone at reception desk. No welcome on arrival and departure went without comment. Customer relations seriously need to be addressed. We felt we were an inconvenience to the hotel. Staff need to understand no customers mean no jobs.
Review 60:Very little except convenient for station
Review 61:The entrance and foyer are small and practical rather than inviting but the hotel cannot help that. The weather was extremely hot - up to 37C and the fan provided was really ineffective. A bit of updating by the hotel to include air-cooling/air-conditioning in the rooms would be beneficial (and there is space to do this).
Review 62:Excellent location - opposite the train station, also having its own car park is convenient as street parking is very limited. Easy walking distance of "old" town. Excellent restaurant (evening meals) and good buffet breakfast. The de-luxe room we had for three nights was certainly very comfortable and spacious.
Review 63:The decor upstairs was a little tired, and could perhaps do with freshening up.
Review 64:Very convenient location, surprisingly quiet, (although I had a room at the back of the hotel) acar-park which was very useful.
Review 65:It was a little bit noisy in the room (especially during the early morning) due to its location next to an hotel exit.
Review 66:The location was very convenient.
Review 67:Access to our room was through breakfast dining room and had to traipse through guests having breakfast on day of departure. A difficult one to correct.
Review 68:Location was excellent with easy access to town centre and train/bus station. Good value for money and comfortable.
Review 69:Difficult to drag luggage up and down the steep and narrow staircases. Alift should be constructed at the back of the hotel. No aircondition.Even a small a/c unit will make a big difference during hot summer days(and nights).
Review 70:Location opposite the railroad station. Friendly and helpful staff. Goodkitchen, especially the breakfast table. The 'ancient' atmosphere, hotelestablished year 1876
Review 71:Booked twin rooms for single occupancy, they were very cramped even forone person. In my room there was a hole in the floor at the toilet doorand it was only the tightly fitted carpet that made it possible to stepinto the toilet. Don't know how much longer it would hold.
Review 72:Food was excellent. Staff helpful.
Review 73:The room safe was broken and we had to accees the room through thekitchen. The rooms are dated and reminded me of the hotels in the 60sand 70s where you had a radio in a cabinet between the two beds onlyhere the radio is no more.
Review 74:Excellent location with regards to public transport and the town. Wellpriced. We took a superior room so there was oodles of space, largebathroom and it was clean and beds reasonably comfortable. The roomfaced the street and we did not find street noise a problem. There isdouble glazing and heavy drapes in front of the windows. Breakfast wasvery adequate and considering the price (included in the room rate) goodvalue for money.
Review 75:The breakfast was ample but a bit uninspiring. It would be ok if you arestaying for a day or two but gets a bit boring after a week!
Review 76:It is a classic. 125 years old but up to date in comfort andcleanliness. Wonderfully helpful staff. Great fun.
Review 77:The room was a bit dark, even with all the lights turned on.
Review 78:Very well situated opposite Venlo railway station. Also, and easy walk into Venlo centre. Staff were always friendly and helpful.
Review 79:Our triple room was a bit disappointing and could have done with a lick of paint and more tlc. There weren't enought coathangers! and they were horrible mismatched plastic ones. No tea making facilities. Room needed more electric sockets. Not wnough furniture for size of room.
Review 80:The hotel was nice and cosy in the public areas ie. bar and breakfast room. The evening meal was excellent. The staff were friendly.Linen was clean and crisp, beds were comfortable
Review 81:Acess to the room one one day was through the kitchen as a meeting wasgoing on and the breakfast room was occupied. There should be analternative way to enter room instead of going through the kitchen
Review 82:Excellent location, just opposite station. Nice large room and toilet.
Review 83:We booked 2 rooms - the only negative I have is that my room was verysmall. I expect small in Europe, but not that small. My friend had amuch larger room and we paid the same amount of money.
Review 84:Location to the train station was fantastic. Good bar and restaurant onsite. Great hotel to stay in if visiting Floriade, shuttle leaves fromstation across the road.
Review 85:Expensive for the type of accomodation, but location probably accountsfor this. We did think some of the electrics were a bit dodgy, looseswitches etc.
Review 86:We stayed here for two nights because we were visiting the Floriadefestival and a shuttle bus runs direct from the railway station oppositethe hotel to Floriade every 20 minutes. The Hotel Whilhelmina has hadsome very mixed reviews, but in our opinion and our experience, some ofthem were unfair. Yes the rooms are small, but they are clean andcomfortable, and although our room faced a busy road, and was oppositethe mainline railway station we were not disturbed by noise. The staffwere all friendly and helpful and one must take into account that thisis a small, old hotel, and therefore does not have all mod cons. The en-suite bathroom was fine, small and not luxurious, but fine, with a bathand shower over and a hair drier. There are no tea or coffee makingfacilities in the room, which is a pity and could be easily remedied andadd a welcome extra facility. Wi-Fi is available, reasonably good andfree. There is an elevator to the higher floors, albeit a bit ricketty. There is also a free car park at the rear of the hotel. The breakfast isvery good with plenty of hot and cold choices, and dinner in therestaurant is excellent, although we did feel it was expensive for whatyou got. In fact compared to other hotels we have stayed at recently, inHolland and Belgium, this hotel was expensive all round, but then thelocation for Floriade is hard to beat and no doubt they are cashing inon this 10 yearly event.
Review 87:The hotel is historic and the setting is charming in the small town-lotsof quaint pubs, shops and restaurants. However, the the best part wasthe staff at Wilhelmina. They were extremely accommodating to ourschedule. We had to leave befoe the breakfast buffet was set and theowner packed us a breakfast to go. We loved it!
Review 88:As we were visiting the Floriade festival the location was good. Meal selection was very sub standard, no tea/coffee facilities in rooms, room very cramped, I would look elsewhere next time. I feel prices were overinflated due to the Floridae being in Venlo.
Review 89:The only good thing was the location to the railway station,
Review 90:Beds were a little soft. Door to the room only locked with a key whichmeant that you either left the room unlocked when you were in it, or youlocked yourself in for the night - needing the key to get out shouldthere be an emergency.
Review 91:Location was ideal for our purposes - directly across from the trainstation and bus routes and on the edge of the "old town" area. Noneed to hire a car. Our room had a nice view of the plaza andfountain. A perfect situation for visiting the Floriade. The buildingitself has an interesting history. Dining rooms were a pleasantexperience. High ceilings, pleasant decor, windows looking out ontothe street, train station and plaza (w/fountain). Staff were verypleasant and accommodating. We were also able to rent bicycles at areasonable rate from the hotel. They were in excellent condition andprovided us an opportunity to further explore the area on thewonderful Dutch bike paths.
Review 92:From our very warm welcome, throughout our stay, until our reluctant departure, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your comfortable hotel. Service, food & wine were excellent. And the asparagus treats delightful! Thank you. We were in Venlo to attend the Floriade, so you might want to mention the ease of commuting from your hotel to the Floriade in your advertising.
Review 93:It was a bit overpriced and needed a make over
Review 94:It was convienient for the Floriade Gaden Festival. Very near the statiom and a short walk to shops and places to eat.
Review 95:The structure of the hotels leads to odd locations of some rooms. Forexample, being the last room on the floor could mean you have a windowfacing a landing thst can be accessed from the emergency exit outsideyour room door. You risk the lost of privacy and security if someonedecides to hang out on the landing outside your window.
Review 96:The location across from the rail and bus stations, a short walk fromtown centre and excellent restaurant. Breakfast spread was good, thoughthey were unable to replenish some of the dishes that were finished byoff by earlier guests.
Review 97:The hotel is just opposit the railway station. However, the hotel room sound insulation was poor, the double bed was small and soft. No air condition in the room which made the sleep hopelessly hot and humid. The shower was very comfined and small with poor noisy exhaust van.. Breafast was OK
Review 98:Hotel could do with a facelift. Bathrooms are outdated and especiallyshowers are poorly fitted out.
Review 99:Great proximity to public transport, friendly staff and good facilities.
Review 100:Staff were all helpful, friendly and willing to engage in conversation. They all seemed happy at their work and there appeared to be a very good working relationship with each other.Location of hotel was excellent in realation to the railway and bus station. Rooms were extremely clean and cuisine was of a very high standard and reasonably priced.
Review 101:The overall experience was very good- no problems at all.
Review 102:We ate at the hotel every evening since the food quality and range were excellent. My wife went into the kitchen each night to compliment the chef. The atmosphere and staff gave us a memorable time in Venlo. We were in Venlo to attend The Floriade and we enjoyed the city, the people and especially the staff and hotel.
Review 103:There was no tea making facilities in room which I am sure was one ofthe reasons I booked it. This is inconvenient and really adds to theprice of the stay if you have to order them.
Review 104:The location by the station and easy reach of good shopping.the transferbus to the floriade is right opposite the hotel but I would not bothergoing,it was rubbish.go to chelsea or hampton court! Lots of really goodrestaurants nearby. Staff were very pleasant and breakfast and roomsbetter than expected. Pleasant stay and would go again if we needed tobe in venlo
Review 105:Our room was accessed through the kitchen which was a little alarming atfirst but on reflection added to the quirkness of the room. The decoration is a little dark.
Review 106:This was an excellent hotel for our visit to Floriade. Rail stationexactly opposite and shuttle bus to Floriade outside rail station.Perfect! The room was clean and beds comfortable. Dinner in the eveningwas very good. Wine a little on the expensive side but good. Breakfastwas excellent with a very wide selection of hot and cold foods. I wouldrecommend this hotel to anyone. A very good 3 star hotel.
Review 107:The hotel is at the best location. It is very convenience for travellers who use train. Hotel offers free breakfast, that is very delicious. All staff are nice andfriendly.
Review 108:The hotel was old and dated with plastic curtains at the windows of our room. There was a very strong smell of tobacco smoke throughout the hotel and even into the retaurant. Telephone system from our room wouldn't allow me to call the UK, even though we were told it should and staff could resolve the issue. Restaurant appeared expensive and better deals were found in the town centre. The hotel was not good value for money, and I wish we had looked a little harder for other accomodation around Venlo.
Review 109:It was located close to the centre of Venlo. A good selection for breakfast.
Review 110:Spartan bedroom, with no comfortable chairs and poor lighting. Long wait for food in restaurant at dinner.
Review 111:Family-run. Good food. Convenient location.
Review 112:Expensive dining room (although it looked very nice) which made me eatin town at another restaurant. Car Park was full which was very annoyingas I chose this hotel due to the private secure car-park. The flip sideof the excellent location was the noise from traffic/people outside.
Review 113:Friendly Staff, clean rooms, good price.
Review 114:The food was very good
Review 115:Clean room and bathroom. Quiet. Nice breakfast. Located next to the station and to the city centre.
Review 116:Inrichting en aankleding aan vernieuwing toe
Review 117:goede ligging vriendelijk personeel
Review 118:Vary Spartan room with no frills at all.
Review 119:Easy access from motorway and good parking.
Review 120:no coffee pot in the room
Review 121:Good staff,good food,clean rooms
Review 122:Nothing
Review 123:Convenient location for rail-travellers. Excellent food in the restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 124:limited restaurant menu no provision for making tea or coffee in the room
Review 125:good central location english widely spoken
Review 126:it is a bit noisy from outside.
Review 127:good location, friendly people
Review 128:Friendly staff; good breakfast selection
Review 129:Wonderful staff
Review 130:Good hotel in the center of Venlo!
Review 131:No faults
Review 132:Welcoming and friendly, food of excellent quality and great value for money.
Review 133:it was what it claimed to be, a simple guest house next to the station and town.
Review 134:Traffic noise & poor breakfast service
Review 135:Location & comfort of bedroom
