Reviews for Samui Mermaid Resort
Review 1:Not by the sea but over the road from main hotel under a flight path I have never been so close to a flying plane and not on it. The noise was crazy
Review 2:Close to Buda and ferry
Review 3:To noisy from the road, restaurant across the road and aeroplanes overhead all day night until 2300
Review 4:The beach wash nice and food in restaurant was nice
Review 5:Would be good if breakfast was included but the cafe was there to use.
Review 6:The room was comfortable and clean. The aircon worked a treat and the staff were friendly. The pool was nice and it was a good location to see the Big Buddha- only 10-15 min walk.
Review 7:Cleanliness not really good, hot water didn't work and they repaired it only after we asked them two times, loudness because of airport
Review 8:Friendly staff, good pices
Review 9:Bungalows are situated right near the beginning/end of the Samui airport runway. Airplanes fly over during the day, but not during the night. It's a small nuisance, as it is also fun to watch. Airport pick ups are free, though no pick up from the sea ports is provided, so prepare for a pricey taxi.
Review 10:Nice, comfortable bungalows. Nice pools as well. View over the bay is very relaxing and peaceful. Adjacent restaurant is good and open 24 hrs/day. Staff very friendly. Location is to the North of the island, which is a little quieter (which I liked). Trip to Chaweng and Lamai beaches is easy and a nice drive by motorbike (also rented out by the resort).
Review 11:You can hear the airplanes flying above your head, but some earplugs while you sleep solve the problem.
Review 12:Cosy and charming hotel. Nice staff and good location. Great to relax by the pool or the beach. Also there is a free transfer to the airport.
Review 13:Location is right at the end of samui airport. We thought it was kinda funny(i.e picture in pool with jet right over my head:) ) I can see how some would find this a deal breaker.
Review 14:Came back.stayed two separate occasions. Best deal is the fan bungolos(cheapest). Nice clean, neat little area.
Review 15:the Air Con stopped working on 2 of the five nights we stayed at the hotel, but on both times the hotel was kind enough to give us another room's key for us to sleep in and use, was inconvenient but better than sleeping in a hot room!
Review 16:we loved the pool, accessibility of the beach & the room was very comfortable, and we looooved the restaurant, delicious food Tip. pay extra and book a room on the beach side of the road or you'll get a fan room across the road from the beach
Review 17:Garden view bungalows are not on the beachfront, they are across the road and closer to the aiport. Planes are quite loud and frequent from 6am until about 10pm. It is bearable though (and quite fascinating). Beds were uncomfortable and fan didn't do much - would pay for air conditioning next time.
Review 18:Nice staff, location, pool and restaurants. Free transfer to the airport. Overall a pleasant stay.
Review 19:We had a little drama with one of the staff members miss placing one of our passports which sent us on a wild goose chase around Koh Samui looking for it. It was a simple mistake but when it comes to passports there should be a bit more care! Other than that, very kind staff and we enjoyed our stay.
Review 20:Ko Samui Airport is next to the resort, and you know jet engines...
Review 21:Really cheap but nice and cosy bungalows. Also the swimmingpool is nice to relax at.
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:Very nice quiet resort only did 1 night here before flying to pattaya so didn't experience house cleaning or didn't experience much of the hotel features but I'm sure it would have been good. The pool and sea view was beautiful
Review 24:Very conveniently situated for our needs. We were there to pick up our son at the airport and the Mermaid is perfectly situated close to the ferry ports and the airport. The food at the restaurant is very good with friendly staff.
Review 25:They 'upgraded' us to a worse room. It was in the far back, behind other cabanas and did not lock properly. Overall location was good because of closeness to pier and airport but pretty sketchy area of town, wouldn't stay again
Review 26:Fantastic staff excellent location nice pool and gorgeous beach Don't be put off by the planes the benefits and cost far outweigh the occasional noise
Review 27:Really uncomfortable bed & power went off in the morning which was connected to the water so I couldn't have a shower or brush my teeth. I paid for the cheapest room as I arrived at 10pm and left at 9am and just needed something close to the Harbour in the morning. Much more beautiful areas and places to stay in Koh Samui if holidaying there.
Review 28:Close to harbour
Review 29:Just the noise of the aeroplanes however you are on a small island and very close to the airport so this cannot be helped .
Review 30:All of it amazing location , great food, fantastic staff and facilities . Very own bungalow with fridge , air con, TV en suite bathroom and balcony.
Review 31:The location is a bit far from many of the sights on Koh Samui. You really need to rent a bike to make the most of Samui if you stay in this resort. Luckily they have good facilities to store your bikes overnight. The planes fly extremely low overhead and woke us up early every morning.
Review 32:The food at the restaurant was good. Our rooms were cleaned every day. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was cheap!
Review 33:Nowhere does it say on the hotels website you are directly under the runway with constant planes flying over your head from 6am it's impossible to sleep!! The hotel is very run down and so is bangrak, we were meant to stay here for 12 nights I just wanted to cry at that thought both the hotel and location were awful!! We asked the receptionist what we could do and she tried to charge us an extra 7500 Baht to upgrade our room we said we would like a refund and she said come back at 5 to speak to the manager, we came back then no sign of the manager a new lady on reception said we can cancel with booking.com, booking.com resolved it straight away and we got our money back, so glad we didn't have to put up with another 11 nights at that place!! Would be okay for a couple nights stopover as the rooms aren't too bad (mattress and bed were broken) but definitely not any longer, waking up every day to the planes, inconsiderate staff being very loud outside the room early hours of the morning and bangrak is really not nice, much better places to stay on the island!!!
Review 34:We got a great deal but I think it would be expensive for what it's worth if you paid full price.
Review 35:A beautiful resort on the beach. It really is picture perfect and the staff have been nothing but wonderful. We are in one of the sunset rooms which is stunning in the evening. Breakfast is great as is all the other meals we have ordered.
Review 36:Ignore photos. Concrete box nowhere near beach. Way, way overpriced. We have stayed in places a fraction of this cost and much nicer and on the beach. No hot water. Can get transit hotels cheaper than this.
Review 37:Close to the airport. And this is what you pay for. Has a kettle and cups.
Review 38:The bathroom was very dark, even when the lights were on. On the walls we could see dead mosquitos, so they should clean it.
Review 39:The staff was very nice. The breakfast was good. They have two very good swiming pools with a good view.
Review 40:The 24h restaurant is always empty, quite scary to eat there after 10pm.
Review 41:The free shuttle from the airport, the swimming pools, walking distance to the pier and to the big Buddha. Big and clean bed and free bottle of water in the room.
Review 42:Problems with plumbing (resolved by upgrading for free), internet some wifi networks don't work,
Review 43:Staff willing to help anytime, amazing beach and pools, good resort restaurant, great massage on resort beach, staff upgraded us immediately when we had problems with plumbing.
Review 44:we had some accident with plumbing but they upgraded us immediately, some wifi networks didn't work
Review 45:Good restaurant! value for money, nice pool, helpful staff, working internet
Review 46:Note that "beach side" does not necessarily mean you will be able to see the beach from your room. You'll have to stump up for a breach front room. This could be made clearer in the description of the hotel. Also, depending on where your room is located, you may be slightly disturbed by passing traffic...
Review 47:Lovely and friendly staff. The hotel is located seconds away from the beach and the restaurant is well priced and delicious! Opt for beach side or beach front rooms to be close to the waterfront.
Review 48:It is very close to the airport so planes are loud but this wasn't a problem for our short stay The room only had a fan so did get very hot
Review 49:This was a great place to stay for a short time. My friend and I stayed here just to relax by the pool before heading off for a busy few weeks of travelling. It was perfect for this as the pool is lovely. Staff were very helpful and it's very easy to access the airport with a free transfer
Review 50:I absoultely loved this place. Close to the pier and the airport. 24 hour restaurant on site, with amazing staff. Two amazing pools. Shuttle to the airport available. Rooms where perfect, everything we needed. Can't fault this place. In fact we are going back there tonight
Review 51:Bed linen not washed - full of previous guests's body hair. Sewerage smell in rooms.
Review 52:Swimming pool. Little mermaid served quality Thai meals. Friendly staff. Airport shuttle.
Review 53:the room was quite dirty and it was over the flight path so was woken very early by planes.
Review 54:Very close to the airport and pier and a free pick up from the airport was very handy.
Review 55:Hotel is close to the airport but hotel is located right under the airplane route, every so offen you hear the airplane taking off which is very, very loud!! It sounds as though the airplane is about to smash into the bungalows, scary experience.
Review 56:Staff are amazingly friendly, staff allowed me to use her personal phone to make a call, staff pleasent and willing to help.
Review 57:had to pay for broken water bottle that provided two free each day and as we had stayed for a month and spent a lot of money with them thought 50 bart was a bit of a cheek
Review 58:for the price it was great clean and staff could not do enough to help you
Review 59:Rooms were clean apart from a few long hairs in the bed, the bed also had no sheet under the quilt, the quilt itself look as though it had been used as a drop cloth for painting. It is also very close to the airport run way so the planes were extremely loud!
Review 60:The staff were incredible
Review 61:Bed is ok but not that comfortable. No hair dryer provided. Noise from airplane every 10 minutes until 10PM. Quiet area and nothing interesting on the beach at night time.
Review 62:The pool and housing area are excellent. Facilities in room is acceptable. 24 hours restaurant, free shuttle service to Samui airport
Review 63:Planes came in very low so noise a factor although there were no flights during the night started around 6.00am
Review 64:The pool, views, off season so quiet had the pool to ourselves
Review 65:Lots of flies during the day by the pool and at the restaurant. Had to upgrade as initial booking in room with fan was not great. Right next to airport and no ventilation in the room.
Review 66:The location of the pricier rooms right on the beach was great. Restaurant is well priced and provides good options. The pool was great
Review 67:Extremely disappointed on return at end of holiday that the pool was out of commission due to a broken chemical tank. The nice pool was a particular reason for us staying there. Mentioned to reception staff and was given a 500 baht refund on price of room. Disappointed meals and drinks not able to be added to room bill, making it necessary to carry cash while sunbathing round pool.
Review 68:Close to airport and ferry; excellent reception staff and happy driver; comfortable room by pool and with sea view which we prefer and that is why we paid the top price.
Review 69:Shower didn't work, t.v blew up when it rained. Had the sea view room but as i arrived the first thing i did was go for a swim. As I jumped into the beach there was a black slug on the bottom form the local boats filling and leaking oil and gas. As I arose my head from the water there was a taste and strong smell of gas. Such a same there could let there beach be distroyed like that.
Review 70:Great room
Review 71:i like that hotel really much. more beautiful view then i expected and pools are enaugh good. stuffs are helpful and friendly. next time i can bool again.
Review 72:- fan room was hot at night - this is not related with the hotel method, but some guest beside our room was talk very loud at mid night.....
Review 73:- calm & quite place for rest. - not crowed private beach.
Review 74:wouldnt stay in basic room but those near the pool over looking the beach looked nice but obviousely more expensive. Didnt seem to be a lot around the area.
Review 75:Just booked a room for day use while awaiting my flight from USM to Bangkok. I had basic room with fan. Could leave my bags and use pool and restaurant and have shower. Pool was lovely. Good value and they provided free transfer to airport. Walk from seatran ferry pier.
Review 76:The main issue of course is the closeness to the airport! When the first plane goes over just skimming the trees it's a bit of a shock however you get used to it and we found it quite amusing! The planes do stop overnight and in any case there are only a few an hour.
Review 77:The room was a good size and was clean and comfortable. The cheaper rooms are over the other side of the road from the beach but are set in pleasant, well-tended gardens. The rooms were cleaned everyday The restaurant served good food reasonably priced The swimming pool was lovely - good sized with plenty of loungers
Review 78:The bed was hard & the road was noisy a lot of the night. Delux bungalows were joined in pairs & noisy through the wall if not considerate.
Review 79:The restaurant food was excellent & good value. The pools were right next to the beach.
Review 80:my room had a very thin curtain so it was real bright and hard to sleep in morning
Review 81:close to pier to go full moon party, shops nearby, not too far from nightspots such as chaweng
Review 82:The only thing that is not really good about this place is that the airport is really near so you will hear how planes land and sometimes the noise is really loud. Though it was not bothering me too much.
Review 83:The bungalow was really nice. The place is green with trees and grass. The fan worked really well so it was not hot though I always prefer rooms with air conditioning. The staff was really friendly. It is not far from the beach and has a lot of bars and shops around.
Review 84:Perfect location for Samui airport and Bangrok pier. Very convenient for a cheap and clean place for an overnighter before catching a plan or ferry. 10 minute walk to pier, 10 min cab to airport. Good food, great pool, helpful staff.
Review 85:no light on the terasse
Review 86:we were picked up in the airport - close to the see and pool - not noice of scooters this time in the night - our children (young people) also like the place
Review 87:Staff was helpful but not the nicest I've met.
Review 88:Close location to the airport and the pier. Lovely pools right at sea front. Lovely bungalows with good conditions. Nice restaurant.
Review 89:The 'resort' is actually next to the airport our two bungalows were at the back of the resort next to the landing strip. Planes would fly in every 30 min even at night, they were so close and low... I've never been that close to a plane that I was not on.
Review 90:The location was nice we were out of the big resort area and there are some fun things to do just walking distance away.
Review 91:Out of the action but thats a positive for some. we had an extra someone (a lizard) stay with us for a few days.could never catch him to say hello though. The planes flying over got annoying by the end of our stay
Review 92:Comfy bed, good wifi everywhere. Nice english bar across the road. Pool and beach. Great view. Onsite cheap restaurant.
Review 93:Shower was too cold, room was small.
Review 94:Good location close to the pier which we needed in the morning and right next to the beach. Nice to hear the waves when in bed.
Review 95:Planes going overhead, can be annoying especially first thing in the morning but you get use to it. Pool could of been cleaned. Shower was a little awkward to use.
Review 96:Valentine on the main check in desk was really helpful! Restraunt food was good, the staff were very friendly - the complex is split into 2 sides we were on the garden side, pool was nice and large with plenty of seating area.
Review 97:Bad location. The Buddha Beach is no good for swimming. All the cool beaches are far from there. Unless you rent a motorbike, you need to get a tuktuk (expensive in Koh Samui) to go to beaches where you can swim. Terrible smell in the bathroom. No breakfast. Wifi doesn't work. Really terrible conection.
Review 98:Helpful staff. There is a pool.
Review 99:Not (from my room 124) quiet can hear everything from the bars opposite . Not the best Thai food of the Ireland .
Review 100:Friendly staff. Free airport ride. Lovely swimming pool.
Review 101:Only bad point was the constant planes flying over head coz of nearby airport. Maybe 4 per hour
Review 102:fast wifi massive bed cleaned daily room service big pool cool staff
Review 103:Prepare to get bitten but mosquitos, the large gaps between the doors allow for them to get in, so take bug spray. The wifi is slow if you're not staying at the beach rooms. The beach is very very very small width ways, you wouldn't really get a chance to sunbath on it, maybe just take a walk along it. The town did seem a bit like a ghost town, not very lively at all.
Review 104:The villas/rooms are small but clean and the beds are comfortable. We were only here for one night so didn't come into contact with the staff much but they were friendly when we did. The location is about a 5-10 minute drive from the airport and the taxi drivers know the resort well. It's very close to the pier which was very handy for us as we had to travel to koh tao the next day. It's also very close to the Big Buddah which is easy to walk to. There are two pools, both are small with a small amount of sun beds provided. The wifi is stronger if you're staying in rooms next to the beach.
Review 105:when I thought I booked a sea side view room I thought I would get a view of the 'sea side' what that means is you get a view from the side of your room of the sea. so I was disappointed that through trees and down a narrow path we got a slight view of the sea. I rated the cleanliness as fair - the rooms are very very clean and the hotel but they seemed to clean around things and not move things to clean behind for EG: the bedside table - so when I moved mine to access the plug I found very disturbingly something that had been "used" by the previous couple left from their "private fun time" I went to reception and it still took them 2 hours before they got someone to remove this (condom) from the floor of our room!! that I was not impressed with at all.... but if needed to I would stay here again that was the only mishap it was eventually dealt with and the staff did seem very embarrassed when I told them!
Review 106:we only stayed in koh samui to get to the full moon party as we didn't want to stay on koh phangan, and for this reason it was perfect for us to stay here. lovely lovely pool, lovely room, v nice size (we booked the superior double room sea side view - now view of the sea though!) it seemed close to things but you would need a bike or taxi to get to it, but perfect to reach the peer to get to koh pangnag / other islands. I would recommend this hotel and I would stay here again.
Review 107:Rude staff. Bad location. An airplane overhead every 15minutes 7am till 11pm. Pool filters were broken so the pool was a no no! The cleaners would just walk straight into your room without knocking and ignore the 'do not disturb' sign on the door. Bad location. Area isn't suitable for families. I have a bad back from an operation and asked for an extra pillow and reception said it would cost me 50baht a day for the rest of our stay... Would not go back again. You get what you pay for.
Review 108:Rooms had basic things. The 24hour Restaurant had good food with bad service.
Review 109:Fan and fridge in room were very old and could do with updating.
Review 110:We stayed in a fan bungalow in the garden area of the resort, the bungalow was nice and clean. There are two pools the better of the two is right on the beach front. lovely food in restaurant for good prices excellent stay for a budget price
Review 111:Coin operated safety deposit lockers, should just be a padlock.
Review 112:Location good for ferries to ko Tao and ko phangan , nice pool, Good selection of food at restaurant. Airplanes going over isn't that big of a deal. Good price!
Review 113:Flies and bugs due to gaps in top of rooms, never been bitten so much in my life Smell of bathroom was horrid and made whole room smell
Review 114:Cheap Quiet area Close to big Buddha Nice pool
Review 115:Good clean room, 5 mins drive to the airport the planes stop going over at 23:00 and start again at 06:00. But for the price we paid it was perfect. Great wifi too. Free pick up and transfers to/ from the airport. All round good comfortable room.
Review 116:The sheets etc were clean however the bathroom was not. There was empty used shampoo bottles and it was generally grubby and in need of a deep clean.
Review 117:The proximity and the closeness to the airport in Samui
Review 118:THIS RESORT IS RIGHT OVER THE FLIGHT PATH. THE PLANES ARE JUST OVER YOUR HEAD FROM 7AM TO 10PM.. BUT 4 VALUE IN SAMUI ITS QUITE CHEEP AND DID NOT WORRY US.
Review 119:THERE ARE 2 GOOD SWIMMING POOLS , ONE OF WHICH HAD OCEAN FRONTAGE. CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE. WALK TO A MARKET FOR FRUIT AND STREET FOOD. PLENTY OF EATING PLACES CLOSE. WE CAME BY CAR SO LOCATION OR NEAR THE AIRPORT WAS NOT CONSIDERED
Review 120:No real complaints... Because it's near the airport there are frequent planes that fly directly above the hotel (very low and loud!) I didn't really mind, and they obviously don't fly through the whole night.
Review 121:I appreciated having a pick-up from the airport despite arriving late and only staying one night.
Review 122:Remember to take your mosquito spray because there's loads of them there!! The shower was fair but can be better and be more powerful. The place looked like it needed modernising, the noisy planes taking off was also disturbing. The location was good in respect of it being close to the airport, but too far away from the decent beach clubs, pubs and social sites.
Review 123:The aircon was good as well as the working TV. The bed was comfortable too. The free airport transfer was amazing.
Review 124:They tried to rip us off over motorcycle hire. Two hours after we hadbrought back the motorbike (and they had checked it) they came to myroom to say there was damage to the motorbike. It was not caused by us!So... Be careful. Take photos of the bike at the start of the hire soyou have proof of any damage.
Review 125:Good location if you are a plane-spotter... Not so good if you don'tlike being under the flightpath at the end of the runway, with planesthundering close overhead regularly.
Review 126:The bed was uncomfotable the bathrooms was quite bad I would not stay here again. I checked out early even though I had already paid and went to a different hotel.
Review 127:The pool was ok and the surroundings were green
Review 128:Under the airport runway and just a fan in the room.
Review 129:Away from the crowds and not so touristy. . Checked in early and they suggested relaxing by the pool until the room was ready.
Review 130:Perfect from airport to ferry, nearby bars good for food as well. Pool amazing views staff friendly, only issue is it's at the end if Samui runway.... Not too quiet at night!
Review 131:First, the room we got was really poorly cleaned. The toilet was BLACK, don't even want to know when was the last time they cleaned it. We changed a room where also the toilet was quite dirty and old so we figured that's the standard of the hotel. The air conditioning is not controllable, blows directly on the bed so you either freeze (if it's on) or sweat (the second you turn it off). There's no phone in the room and in order to get to reception you have to walk about 5 min plus cross a main road (quite busy road). I do not recommend staying there unless you arrive in the evening and leave the following morning to the airport.
Review 132:close to tje airport. Free shuttle to the airport.
Review 133:It was perfect for a total blissed out holiday of doing nothing. The 30C sea was 20 metres from my bed. The beach was hot and perfect. There were no hustlers there. The bar and restaurant and pool were beside the beach and it was quiet and it was the off season. When you wanted some action you could jump on one of their motorbikes and go to the bars and markets of Chaweng.
Review 134:As it so close to the airport there's a huge noise of planes landing every half hour. Not ideal but it didn't take from the place completely.
Review 135:The staff were fabulous and the beach was quiet. The pool was right outside our room and it was quite clean.
Review 136:The water is not clean and salty. I have to bought water from 711 for brush my teeth, and the airplane sound is very annoyed.
Review 137:good location near the pier to full moon party. The stuff is very helpful and friendly
Review 138:Airport really close to hotel Cancel my reservation 2hours before I coming and try to sell a room for a double price Booking room in parking via web for a half price them a staff say
Review 139:Pool Organisation for a trip
The Fine Print
