Reviews for Bilderberg Château Holtmühle
Review 1:We booked an upgraded room. Upon arrival we only get a standard one but still with the upgraded price. Luckily, one staff helped to figure this out after a few hours, so we can move in a better room. The room still needs redecoration. Walking on the floor makes a huge noise. There was one evening that the entire hotel hosts some activity, so we had to eat outside. This is fine if we knew in advance. However we only got noticed in the evening. We had to wandle in the dark to find a restaurant.
Review 2:Perfect location, beautiful area
Review 3:The overall experience inside the room was not aligned to my expecrtations. Not a chateau experience. The bathroom was so so.
Review 4:Location, surroundings, nature.
Review 5:The restaurant was a touch expensive for the amount of food you received, but very tasty.
Review 6:Everything about the place, the staff, location an ideal stopping off place while travelling to Germany
Review 7:Everything was great
Review 8:We travelled from England and stayed here one night. Staff were excellent. Couldn't have been more helpful. Whilst restaurant was full, they still made us a nice meal and served in bar area. Staff gave us umbrellas to help with the rain outside. My 83 yr old uncle thought this was the best hotel he has stayed in.
Review 9:Badly stained carpet in bedroom, Nobody on the bar and had to go to reception every time we wanted a drink, no air con, no mini bar, wasn't offered tea or coffee the first 2 days at breakfast, no body took bags to room. A bit tired and needs some TLC.
Review 10:Charming Property, clean bathroom, friendly reception staff.
Review 11:Hot sunny day but no facilities to sit in the shade on the terrace to eat or drink, as the tables were set for dinner at 12noon
Review 12:The upgraded room was excellent. Food very good and modern style menus
Review 13:We were no able to take dinner at the cadtle, apparently we should have booked ahead but were not aware it was so popular. Dinner in Venlo was not that exiting
Review 14:The castle-feeling was amazing. Also, very nice approach to dogs( we got dog food, sorucers for wayer and a blanket)
Review 15:Location slightly disappointing, had expected a more rural setting. Wifi free, but complicated sign up process and to be repeated when you stay more than 2 days.
Review 16:Good staff and great restaurant.
Review 17:Staff was always cheerful and did their best to be sure we enjoyed our stay doing things we like to do. We had our 6-year old with us and she seemed to like that they also asked her how she was doing and offered to get her drinks, etc..
Review 18:Pillows were uncomfortable. Could also benefit from a free weights area of the gymnasium.
Review 19:Great venue, with plenty of nice walks around the hotel, and good facilities if you do not wish to venture outside.
Review 20:Beds were/are far too soft; suitable only for the Princess of 'pea' fame. Restaurant menu is too limited for an uncultured palate (like mine).
Review 21:Everything; almost reluctant to let anybody know about this little gem, but.....
Review 22:The rooms do not live up to the standard of a casttle. It feels like going to another hotel and there was an unpleasant smell. I appreciate the very special heating system, but it would be a good idea to have a small heater in each room as a supplement.
Review 23:Really nice surroundings entrance and "lobby". Breakfast staff really nice.
Review 24:The heating started only at 0:00 hrs and stopped in the morning, i.e. in the afternoon and even more in the evening it was extremely cold in the room. A part that problem it's a very beautiful hotel with an excellent restaurant.
Review 25:Bed was little bit soft for us, we prefer hardest bed.
Review 26:Very nice place, very quiet hotel. Staff was very helpful. Food was good, room was quiet and cleen.
Review 27:Some of the paintwork in the bedroom needs renewing, we were shown one room which hadn't been made up.
Review 28:Atmosphere of the Chateau and its surroundings, friendly staff, good food
Review 29:Could do with screw top bottles for bathroom accessories, and two bars of soap. The flooring in the pool area is dangerously slippery. The breakfast conservatory windows could have been opened to circulate some fresh air. Staffing of the bar in the evening would give a better atmosphere and encourage guests to stay in the hotel and not go down the town for some interaction.
Review 30:The bed was as comfortable as my own. The room was tastefully furnished, and clean, all facilities worked. The fly screens on the room windows were excellent. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly offering advice and for their initiative.
Review 31:System down and no proper invoice upon check out. Staff helpful to accommodate where possible
Review 32:Non typical hotel
Review 33:Great location, superb room, really nice atmosphere
Review 34:Odd air co unit in the Room
Review 35:Breakfast
Review 36:Had to search for a person to serve us a drink in the bar
Review 37:Location and food
Review 38:Very Hard bad
Review 39:Not impressed with restaurant
Review 40:Loved the lake, trees, outdoor areas, rooms
Review 41:poor bed and bad burger
Review 42:good service, nice room and bathroom, excellent breakfast
Review 43:My old mother visit from Japan seriously impressed thist amazing hotel.
Review 44:Sauna was closed
Review 45:almost everything
Review 46:Nature
Review 47:Nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast in the morning.
Review 48:Gym and pool did not look exciting
Review 49:Location Stlye Food relaxing
Review 50:Rooms were too warm, not well equipped for summer weather.
Review 51:Clean, good location, helpful staff.
Review 52:The decoration...It completely lost the charm of a castle...it is too modern...When you arrive you do not realize you are actually entered a very old castle...and no welcoming drinks...no bubbles...
Review 53:The view and the food.
Review 54:Upon arrival there was no provision for our luggage to be taken to our room. Since we arrived in the afternoon we were expecting to have coffee and cake but we were soon told that there were no cakes or biscuits available. The all food menus were only in Dutch with no provisions for German or English.
Review 55:Beautiful location and very romantic building and surrounding areas. Excellent breakfast/buffet. Superb beds - extremely comfortable.
Review 56:Corridor to pool was a bit slippy. You can hear people moving about upstairs at night. More tea bags and more variety in room would be nice.
Review 57:Nice big clean room. Lovely pool and sauna area. Good food. Staff were fantastic.
Review 58:It was really hot when we went so the rooms could benefit from air conditioning
Review 59:Setting Restaurant Service Decor The most comfortable beds I've ever slept on in a hotel
Review 60:- the responsibles of the restaurant are very unprofessional, unfriendly and defnetly not customer oriented - we were told the restaurant is fully booked. at 8.15pm there were 3 empty and undished tables - slow and unattentive stuff
Review 61:- very nice chateau - the area around is really pretty
Review 62:This was grossly understaffed for the implied quality of the hotel. Oncheck in shown the luggage rack to load our cases & offered staffhelp but none seemed to be around. Ordered afternoon tea, the processtook some 40 min, only apricot tart available when we pressed forsomething to eat. Blank look when asked for milk for the tea, we werebrought a jug of boiled milk. No tea making facilities. No cereal forbreakfast, had to hunt for milk for tea and fruit juice in other room ofrestaurant. Staff seemed to have too much to cover although they werepoliteness itself.
Review 63:Lovely location, former chateau surrounded by a moat ith swans. Interiorlovely as was the room with an excellent view. Food chosen was verygood. Breakfast had ample choice. Plenty of parking space and local"wander routes". Friendly, amenable staff. Ample pleasentplaces inside or out to sit, talk or have a drink
Review 64:we did have one complaint regarding two older members of staff in the restaurant who were very rude to us when we attend for dinner. we booked our table at reception but when we arrived to be seated the staff members just brushed us aside telling us to sit and they would get to us. We were left at our table for 10 min's. we were not even offered a menu or drink while we waited, we decided to leave. Sadly due to this negative experience we did not dine at the restaurant for the remainder if our stay (4 Nights). We did raise the matter at the time to be told that these particular members of staff had caused an issue earlier.
Review 65:The staff were on whole fantastic and helped us to enjoy our stay, the hotel is well placed to visit Holland and Germany. .
Review 66:We liked this hotel very much .... comfortable, clean, nice atmosphere, exellent breakfast, close to our business destination. We think thisvolue for money is very good.
Review 67:No criticisms really; restaurant staff were excellent for first course but slowed down when it got busier, but small matter compared to the food and presentation. Great blueberry sorbet:)
Review 68:Was a great final weekend for my fiance and I before our baby is born. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast and dinner was fabulous. Lovely walk around the grounds and a short walk to Tegelen and train to Venlo, but no real need to leave the hotel grounds:)
Review 69:Both our rooms had lights that did not work and were very warm despitethe day being cooler - would have been good if rooms were airing whenguests expected. The service at dinner and breakfast could have beenmore attentive
Review 70:Loved the atmosphere and the surrounding area to the castle
Review 71:very soft matress so if you have back problems avoid.also a bit warm as there was no AC in the room just a fan
Review 72:very nice location, beautiful building with nice swimming pool.also good breakfast
Review 73:Halls and rooms are warm. When windows are open to cool room it is noisie with birds. No free wifi in hotel. You have to pay for parking.
Review 74:Beautiful location and lovel pool and delicious breakfast!
Review 75:Not in walking distance of town, train station etc so needed own transport or taxi to get to and from places.
Review 76:Beautiful setting in fully renovated castle. Lovely outdoor terraces surrounded by a moat. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Our room overlooked pond/lake. Had indoor heated Pool and also a Sauna. Restaurant had gourmet food, little pricey but good quality. Breakfast, included in room price, was nice and had a good selection. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 77:Being a caniuculara summer, I felt bad way, especially at night, no air conditioning.
Review 78:Bilderberg Château Holtmühle is a quiet place, very suitable for relaxation, meditation, spa, creative, spending time with family in a beautiful space framed in nature and very elegant. I was impressed with the sophistication incorporated medieval elements in modern architecture. Lake, forest, park, sculpture workshop, all services and discreet and pleasant staff how to interact with visitors. Rooms are elegant, classic style, beautifully decorated. Dining and variety of menus I was delighted.
Review 79:Loved everything !!!
Review 80:We chose the hotel as it was near to the floriade being staged in venlo. We were delighted with the setting and service we received. All staff mostly young people very friendly and attentive. setting of hotel delightful surrounded by water, pleasant terraces to sit on and enjoy evening drink etc... Restuarant serving good food with attentive service. breakfast very good, delicious freshly baked bread to accompany the many dishes on the buffet. altogether a wonderful weekend will return !!!
Review 81:It's beautiful hotel, and the rooms were large and luxurious, the whole atmosphere & location were lovely. A place for relaxing, it got gym, swimming pool.. no matter a bit small. To Tegelen & Venlo only 4 and 15 mins respectively by car, also close to Roermond outlet. The staffs were nice, helpful & English speaking.
Review 82:The level of service was below expectations. Ordering afternoon teas onthe terrace, pre-dinner drinks in the bar, and then dinner itself provedvery slow in both taking orders and delivery. Whether this was due tounderstaffing or poor management I cannot say.Tendency to run out of decent bread at breakfast - both mornings left with only white sliced loaf. Changing facilities and showers for the swiming pool were also in need of an update. We stayed six weeks earlier in the nearby sister hotel and found this much better on all these points,.
Review 83:Great building, pleasant large bedroom. Pleasant and helpful staff, Goodmenu in restaurant.
Review 84:We booked a room to this hotel because there were rooms left not under the roof as for the other hotel from the same category. When we arrive, the receptionist informed us that our room was upgraded to a highest level. When we enter in the room, we were not under the roof but in the roof. The room was horrible HOT, we have to pay attention when going to the bed not to bag the beams, I am only 1m57 tall, sleeping all the night with AC. When I went down to the receptionist mentioning that we were not happy about the room, she said that we were ONLY staying one night and there were apparently fully booked which I doubt about it given her will to find a solution or to propose something else. Since the room not being under the roof (picture on the web site) and given the price and the service of the room, I am not going to go again in this hotel.
Review 85:The buffet for breakfast for very good and various. The place is nice and beautiful.
Review 86:No Air-conditioning, but by opening windows at night it was comfortable enough. Gourmet restaurant service was not up to par - untrained waiter got order wrong causing a long delay. Dinner food was not as good as expected.
Review 87:Lovely facility and grounds, very well-renovated, and the price seemed quite reasonable based on the size of the rooms and the quality of the furnishings, etc.
Review 88:The housekeeping was appalling: room and wc were left dirty (with hairon the floor), my clothes were left all crumpled up and scattered aroundthe room (whereas I had left them spread out on the bed), no replacementshower gel was provided (had to ask reception). Service in the bar, terrace and restaurant is very slow. Restaurant menu is lacking inchoices (only 4 main course options available)
Review 89:The hotel and grounds are gorgeous with the plants and animals on thegrounds making for a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere. The hotelinteriors are spacious and comfortable with a touch of luxury. Theterrace is fantastic of a summer evening. Rooms are spacious and wellappointed, with very comfortable beds. Reception staff is very friendly, helpful and efficient.
Review 90:Service at the evening dinner meal was very, very slow. Also we did notappreciate being told on our return to the hotel one evening that wecould not dine in as the restaurant was fully booked! Even our requestfor a bar snack was refused.
Review 91:Excellent location;very quiet and peaceful; good parking; goodbreakfast; well appointed rooms. .
Review 92:We found the room could have had better ventilation and cooling -bearing in mind that the average daily temperature was 30 degrees.THE DINNER MENU BY ENGLISH STYLE LACKED A VARIETY.
Review 93:The location in a quiet area but adjacent to floriade 2012 and easyto locate.ALL THE STAFF WERE VERY HELPFUL AND SPOKE ENGLISH
Review 94:Small and not very clean rooms. The smell of smoking even in a non-smoking room. Quite careless personnel in the restaurant. Not all the staff speaks English.
Review 95:Good place to visit Floriada. Beautiful building.
Review 96:The chateaux was wonderful. Unfortunately we went to the Floriade which was a huge waste of time.
Review 97:The rooms are large and luxurious as you would expect in a chateaux. The lake and surrounding grounds create a lovely environment. The dinning area hasca wonderful ambience and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 98:'Superior Room' with plenty of space but tiny window and no aircon.Verydark, and uncomfortable on hot and humid days and nights in July.Supplied electric fan helped only a bit. Breakfast tables not clearedpromptly so people overspill into the dark and cavern like dining room, rather than using the pleasant orangerie for buffet breakfast. Need morestaffing for breakfast clearing. Dinner fine, but service really slow.Customer satisfaction form online seemed hopeless so I abandoned it.Hope the hotel reads this!Could be a much better hotel.
Review 99:Really nice location and grounds. Interesting attractive building. EasyParking. Pleasant helpful staff, mostly young and trying hard.
Review 100:Nothing. It was all fantastic with an excellent car park adjoining.
Review 101:The hotel is set on an island surrounded by a lake with ducks and swans. It is close to the motorway network yet far enough away to be in thecountry The village of Steyl by the river Maas is only a short walk awayand Venlo is only one stop away by train from the local train stationwhich is a short walk from the hotel. This hotel is ideal for Floriadewhich is only 15 minutes away by car. Our room was spacious with viewsoverlooking the lake. The hotel staff were very helpful & nothing wastoo much trouble. The Restaurant was first class with a varied menu tosuit everyone's taste. This is a first class hotel & one which we wouldrecommend very highly. There is even a small museum in the grounds, which is certainly worth a visit & is free to guests.
Review 102:A beautiful building which is very tastefully decorated and in picturesque surroundings. All of the staff were very friendly, attentive and efficient.
Review 103:Just a lot of small things, nothing major in themselves, but which, taken together, let it down slightly. Bedside light not working in the bedroom (replaced when we asked): No cream/milk with the coffee in the room (provided when we asked for it): Only one set of shower gel/shampoo for two people (not enough, especially if you are using the swimming pool and need to shower afterwards): The wait for food at dinner was very long.
Review 104:A beautiful location and building. Our room in the kastel was lovely, with a good, big bed and lots of space. The staff were very pleasant, especially at reception and in dinning room.
Review 105:First room we were given was like a morgue. Dark and dingy with no sunlight and all noise from restaurant heard late night and early morning. Nightmare stuff!! Staff obliged our request to be moved and this room which overlooked lake had 2 windows so lots of beautiful sunlight. I would only recommend this hotel with reservations.
Review 106:Design and outlay was great. Gardens lovely and family of swans on lake beautiful Food in restaurant lovely.
Review 107:Staff inadequate in number and did not appear to be properly supervised or managed. Service in restaurant very bad. Tables not cleared. Guests ignored, not greeted or seated. Had to ask for menu, had to ask three times for water. Usually no-one serving in bar, sometimes no-one on reception. No drawer or shelf storage in room. No transport to/from station or Floriade event. Business groups/conferences clogging up restaurant.
Review 108:Buildings, grounds, rooms all very attractive and well-maintained, food mostly good (if you could get it).
Review 109:Service at dinner can be a bit "hit and miss ",but it is done in a friendly way.
Review 110:Beautiful location with nice grounds, excellent position for the Floriade and a charming experience during our three day stay.Wonderful hotel building -rooms are a good size with a large bathroom, plus the beds are very comfortable. Food at breakfast, lunch and dinner is very good -but with limited choices for dinner if you do not take the set menu over a three day stay.
Review 111:The Bilderberg Chateau is a beautiful hotel with wonderful grounds. The beds are very comfortable. The staff is wonderful and the food amazing in the restaurant.
Review 112:Attractive hotel and setting. Lovely building and peaceful ambiance. Very comfortable room with luxury bedding. Good location for visiting area although not very easy by public transport/train as at least 10 mins walk from the station. Delicious food although slightly more choice on the menu would be good.
Review 113:Internet connection ( swiss telecom I think...) was useless.
Review 114:The kitchen was exellent The place, the building, the nature around - everything we like
Review 115:One restaurant was closed and service in he bar took a long time..
Review 116:Location is very nice.
Review 117:Good location and atmosphere for relaxing.
Review 118:Disappointing breakfast
Review 119:Nice room and bathroom, very comfortable bed.
