Reviews for Carmel Resort Inn

Review 1:The location is too far to walk to downtown Carmel but so quiet and relaxing. On a holiday weekend parking a car in Carmel was a challenge but I would not change a thing.

Review 2:The bungalow w 2 queen was so spacious and perfect for a family.

Review 3:The included breakfast was decent, but it could have been improved. Perhaps if the staff were friendlier, it would have felt a bit more welcoming. There were facility workers making loud noises early in the morning.

Review 4:Each suite is an individual building which felt nice and secluded and private. There was beautiful greenery all around the property. It was a perfect (walking) distance from downtown Carmel-by-the-sea and not too "touristy". We almost felt like locals.

Review 5:Just a thought: it would be nice if the bath products were "green" and the breakfast basket, although plentiful, had less sugar as an ingredient.

Review 6:This has been my fourth stay here, usually I stay here with my family - quiet neighborhood; yet very central to the Monterey Peninsula, friendly staff, nice grounds; not your cookie-cutter motel, comfortable beds, easy parking.

Review 7:My wife and I had booked 3 days, left after one night; here's why. The whole place is mid-renovation. Hot tub didn't work, which no one said till we discovered it after checkin. In our room, the old carpet had been removed...except for about a 4-inch strip of the old gold carpet that served as a "baseboard" around the room. The floor had been replaced, I guess, using wood flooring that looked like plywood. Front door had been cut to clear the carpet, but with the carpet gone, there was now about a 1" gap at the bottom of the door, letting in light and cold air. No heat in the bathroom of any kind--no vent, no heat lamp. No SINK in the bathroom! Have to walk out of the bathroom to the kitchen area to wash your hands, and then, the kitchen sink had no hot water! Also, no kitchen table or chair--a giant heater had been installed there. Paint job was 80s pink and blue. As for the bed, now I know what the meat in a taco feels like. My back was killing me the next day. Furnishings were a mishmash of old and new, and the new stuff (e.g., night stands) were Lilliputian, leaving very little space to put any "stuff." On the rare occasions when the Wifi worked, it was at dial-up modem speeds, a '1' on a scale of '10'. I guess cabins are being renovated, but if ours was "done," it's a lame renovation. If they just did the floor--why? Why not redo everything while you have the room cleared out? Feels like they don't have enough money to do it right. If you go expecting a "resort" as in the name, you'll probably be sorely disappointed. If you go expecting "rustic," kind of a fishing cabin set-up, or an upgrade like a tent with hard sides, you'll probably be OK. We didn't find it worth it, even at a fairly low booking.com price.

Review 8:The setting is nice--lots of trees, very quiet on the property. Our unit had its own table and chairs outside. Handy parking adjacent to the unit. They didn't give us a hard time after checking out early on our reservation.

Review 9:Carmel is cold and damp in the winter. That dampness makes it hard to keep the cottages warm. They did provide a space heater, but it struggled to keep the place comfortably warm. Bundle up, and/or bring an extra warm blanket from home. This is an older property, with zoning laws that make all the improvements it could use impossible, but there is sloppy handyman work...occasional plugs hanging out of the walls, annoying flashing green lights on light switches that work or don't work. Drafty windows. That sort of thing, but overall, not all that bad if you're prepared for it. 5hink of it as a hostel with privacy and spaciousness.

Review 10:I would stay here again. The price is more than fair for the size of the cottages. They are rustic over luxury. Funky chic. Our cottage had two bedrooms each with its own sink and blow dryer, a living room with a gas fireplace, a kitchen complete with refrigerator, stovetop and oven, microwave, coffee maker and dishes. Breakfast is delivered to yoyr door, every morning, in a basket with bananas, apples, muffins, yogurt, canned Kern's "juices", and a packaged Svenhard's cinnamon roll. The grounds have outdoor seating areas, and it is easy access to the freeway. Tucked away in a quiet, mostly residential, neighborhood. The staff is small, but helpful and caring.

Review 11:Everthing was how I like the best! First of all quite place, that's the most important for me. Clean. Heater do not make a noise:) When we get there fireplace was on - like it:)

Review 12:Problem with one light switch in hallway to bathroom, staff did temp fix then came and replaced the light switch, great staff. Only one comment put another light in the room maybe a standing light or light in ceiling. Will come back, location is excellent.

Review 13:outdated rooms, broken shower, old thermostat (woke up freezing in the middle of the night), breakfast v avarage, and not very healthy

Review 14:price, last minute booking available, wi-fi,

Review 15:The shower in the room had a deep end. It had a puddle for the stay after our first shower.

Review 16:The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. I didn't realize the check in wasn't until 3, and they got me into a room by 1:45 (arrived at 1, and they got us in quick!). Breakfast dropped off at our room was lovely.

Review 17:Bare floors. Sugary drink in breakfast basket. Wi-Fi didn't work, either in room or in Lobby.

Review 18:Quiet location. Cabin arrangement. Yogurt (protein) in breakfast basket. In room coffee/tea with plentiful supplies. Good heating control.

Review 19:Rooms are looking quite tired and well worn - in need of a refurbish. We had stayed there two years ago and were disappointed with the decline over a couple of years.

Review 20:Reasonably comfortable room with a nicely presented breakfast basket. Despite being on the main road, it was quiet and peaceful at nighttime.

Review 21:The only bad thing was all the construction trash on the grounds. Everywhere you looked! It would be a nice woodsy setting if not for all the mess.

Review 22:Cottages were cute and comfortable. Breakfast was good.

Review 23:Could not figure out coffee making pot, instructions would have been helpful.

Review 24:Nicely renovated cabins, new floors, clean surfaces, windows could be opened. Good location to HWY1. Helpful attendant. Coffee, Tea making facility. We missed the breakfast basket by leaving early, and we hope to catch it next time.

Review 25:It was extremely dirty. Our feet were black from walking barefoot on the floors. The shower had so much mold and grime, we actually put towls down before standing in it. The room was missing a phone, so we couldn't call the front desk. Very dirty! It was very expensive for the condition.

Review 26:The staff allowed us to check in a little early.

Review 27:The bungalows need seriously updating. Ours appeared to have been started and left unfinished. There was a new bed and bedside cupboards and new shower but apart from one leather type recliner there was no furniture just an empty space with a hanging rail and iron on the floor. The new laminate flooring was probably better than an old carpet would have been! Nowhere to put bags or anything else apart from the floor. Doors were old and badly fitting. Expensive for what it was. Worth spending more to be closer to centre of Carmel and nicer facilities.

Review 28:Staff did best to keep facilities clean.

Review 29:Guy on check in (owner?) made us feel unwelcome. He seemed upset. Maybe because we checked in late (around 7pm).. I requested a quiet room on reservation - got the outer most cabin located at the corner of 2 intersecting streets. There was a huge construction site. They started digging holes in the ground with a big vehicle at 6 in the morning.

Review 30:Hotel personnel brought breakfast in the morning.

Review 31:We were late getting in. It was difficult to find the room. The room had a moldy/musty smell. The bathroom was in need of remodeling. Bathroom faucet was very loose, molding around the sink was loose (coming off) appeared to be where the smell was coming from. The floor next to the entry door had a soft spot, like the floor was rotting. Molding either missing or coming off in the main room. Grounds were littered with old furniture, etc.

Review 32:Bed was very comfortable. Enjoyed breakfast being delivered. Appreciated the room keys being left due to late arrival.

Review 33:Really cute little cottages. Basic, but cute. And plenty of parking. Friendly staff too, let us check out late.

Review 34:The shower had poor water pressure.

Review 35:Our room was cozy and clean. The grounds were clean and inviting.

Review 36:Breakfast wasn't provided though it was included...

Review 37:Pope Heating, ils bathroom, no breakfast room .

Review 38:My kids got a cheese Danish in their breakfast basket and we only had muffins.

Review 39:Location to downtown and breakfast.

Review 40:I liked every little details about this place. It was tranquil. It was beautiful. It was a magical place.

Review 41:Adorable cottage and the bed was SO comfortable. Walk to town and the beach.

Review 42:loud neighbors at 3:30 am breakfast was not so nice

Review 43:fireplace, location

Review 44:the room we had no cupboards to store your stuff.

Review 45:every thing was good , the room we requested was not available

Review 46:Shoddy rooms, Non working heater

Review 47:very clean and cosy. a short walk to downtown carmel area.

Review 48:Front door was not secure.

Review 49:Nice fireplace and clean room

Review 50:Friendly staff, privacy. roomy, good value for money.

Review 51:Very comfortable bed and pillows !!!

Review 52:Plywood floor had no covering; no chairs or tables in the unit, only one bed.

Review 53:Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Good location for Carmel. Cabin style accommodation

Review 54:None

Review 55:We enjoyed a cottage in a calm atmosphere.

Review 56:No working fireplace, heater, toilet, hairdryer

Review 57:Staff

Review 58:Pricey for the quality. Suppose I was paying for carmel.

Review 59:Friendly help

Review 60:The grounds where we stayed weren't kept up at all, lots of weeds, front cabins where nice, but we stayed in back and they weren't,

Review 61:It was nice place for the price

Review 62:The light switch was not by the door frame. It took a while for us to find the switch when we checked-in late at night.

Review 63:They deliver breakfast to your door. It was so kind and gave me a very nice morning. The fireplace was neat and adjustable by the war controller. The restroom was very spacious. I really enjoyed the stay.

Review 64:Details said 0.5 miles from centre of Carmel but it seemed further, a car is needed.

Review 65:Good value for money in an expensive resort. Plenty of space in room. Breakfast basket delivered to room. Although fittings are quite old everything is very clean.

Review 66:Breakfast basket mostly costco sweeties.

Review 67:An easy walk to down town shopping & restaurants. Welcome fire & tables on outdoor common patio.Numbering on rooms is creative. Some fresh fruit in basket. Will return.

Review 68:Traffic noise, cleaning product smell (carpet cleaner?), not walkable to downtown at night due to lack of street lights.

Review 69:Manager gave us an upgraded larger cottage which was a nice surprise. Price, breakfast, beds, layout of cottages and room

Review 70:Odor in the room overwhelming! They nedd dehumififiers to get rid of the musty odir. They should change from blankets to comforters. Bathroom very old not well kept!

Review 71:Breakfast att the door

Review 72:Bathroom could be updated. Some parts needed a better clean.

Review 73:Lovely big rooms. Comfy beds. Lots of hot water. Breakfast brought to your room (bungalow) each morning. Great towels. The four seater table where we ate breakfast. Location is great but need a car.

Review 74:Nothing the bathroom was horrible and the sink leaking. The lighting was so poor u could not see what u were doing. It a as like camping if u wanted camping. Would not recommend

Review 75:It was a bit dark in the room lighting either on or off hard for one person to be up and others sleep had to ask for hair dryer no iron

Review 76:Very quiet parking next or near continental breakfast nice landscaping pretty cozy with fireplace

Review 77:They recently changed their pet policy and claim it is on their website. Neither of us could find it. We cannot stay there again because of this change. They did let us check in even though our pet was over their 20 lb. limit.

Review 78:Location.

Review 79:No hairdryer, no staff available to get a hairdryer at night, bathtub faucet leaking water, step down to lower room had no safety tape so to trip and fall would be easy. We put a book on the step so we would see it easier. Luckily I have short hair and my hair dried fairly quickly but if I had long hair I would have been in trouble. When I told the girl at the front desk she told me not all the rooms had hairdryers. No apologies were given. I think this place is way overpriced and I would not stay there again!! Motel 6 has better service.

Review 80:The location was great. Bed was comfortable.

Review 81:The bathrooms were out dated and tired. The cabin needed upgrading. The grounds were in need of major work and everything about the place old and untidy. I don't know where the "RESORT" part came in. Ok for backpackers.

Review 82:The cabins were comfortable and quiet, but that was about it.

Review 83:Location at times a bit noisy due to high amount of traffic on Carpenter Street.

Review 84:We did get an upgrade to a larger 2 bedroom cabin. Free parking directly in front of the cabin.

Review 85:Quite a distance from town. Maybe I misunderstood the map but the main area of art galleries and restaurants is a short drive, rather than walk, away. There is no air conditioning.

Review 86:Cute sort of retro appearance of the cabins, all seemingly unique. The price was good for this high-cost location. Exterior looks quite old but the interior is much more modern.

Review 87:No hair dryer. Asked for one in eve which didn't appear Asked again in morning and brought over

Review 88:Friendly staff - recommended amazing local restaurant. Good breakfast basket delivered in morning

Review 89:Although the breakfast was delivered as promised, it was nothing special. We will go out to breakfast next time.

Review 90:We loved the quiet location in a residential neighborhood. Lovely to take a walk in the afternoon. Our cottage was comfortable and had a nice little courtyard out front complete with table and chairs which was a perfect place to sit with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. It was a five block walk to Ocean Ave. Which was do-able.

Review 91:Incredibly small room, not even space for a table. Lack of AC, so the room heats up to oven temperatures during daytime.

Review 92:Quiet location. Nice neighbourhood - like everywhere in Carmel.

Review 93:Breakfast was a huge disappointment. All very sweet and full of calories. Taking a shower was not very good.

Review 94:Spacious room. Not so far from the downtown area. Very comfortable.

Review 95:Not all cottages have a fireplace. It was not located within walking distance of downtown Carmel. Don't be fooled! There aren't sidewalks in Carmel neighborhoods so walking to downtown was a terrible idea. Service was pretty slow. Had to call multiple times on the same occassion for more towels. All in all it was an okay place. I'd rather spend a little more next time and be closer to downtown/beach.

Review 96:Breakfast was great though I wish it were delivered a little earlier. Spacious living area.

Review 97:The property is in need of a few updates and landscape maintenance butnothing that would keep us from staying there again.

Review 98:Very secluded location, perfect for the relaxation we were looking for.Very reasonable price compared to other inns not far from us. We wereupgraded to a suite for free upon arrival. Not far from downtown.Fireplace was a great addition to help keep the room warm. We would staythere again.

Review 99:no Kleenex tissues to blow my nose. the poor lighting for getting dressed.

Review 100:the quiet atmosphere nestled in the woods---the quiet evening and night forpleasant sleeping. the pretty flowers especially the orchids and boganvellia. the extra pillows. the coffee and breakfast.

Review 101:Jacuzzi's water was cold and mercy. No sink in the bathroom of room 21, we had to walk to the kitchen to wash our hands, that wasn't a big deal. We will definitely stay there again.

Review 102:Excellent location, clean, friendly staff, very cheap for Carmel (nothing is cheap in Carmel). Bed is extremely comfortable.

Review 103:The bathroom and kitchenette/sink area in our unit were in need of updating, and the exterior areas of the Inn would benefit from more care and maintenance.

Review 104:The room was comfortable, and the outdoor patio was excellent. It was quiet and in a reasonably convenient location in a nice residential area. The fireplace was very effective.

Review 105:No bathroom counter space. Wasn't very aesthetically pleasing. Was a little further from everything but we still walked to dinner. Good thing we both workout because it was quite a hike up hill coming back.

Review 106:Big room and very clean. Liked that it was a little cottage and it was a very quiet location. Bed was very comfortable. I would stay here again.

Review 107:The bathroom in the unit we were in, the only complaint i had is that you have to jiggle the handle of the toilet sometimes to get the stopper inside the tank to go down so it would quit its continuous water run.

Review 108:I liked the location, it was a cute cottage setup that was pretty private. It was close to the town.

Review 109:Dirty tissues found under bed Terrible shower Not worth $100 a. Night. $70 would be fair

Review 110:Breakfast delivered to the door in the morning You can park right outside the room. Good for dogs

Review 111:This place could be so great with a little more effort! Our check-in was bordering on the unfriendly, staff seemed mildly uninterested (lack of motivation/guidance from management). The atmosphere was impersonal throughout. This was also felt in the cabin which, although clean and acceptable, lacked all the thoughtful little touches that travelers appreciate. A hook here or there and a shelf to put toiletries on (the only surface in the bathroom was the toilet) would have made all the difference. The placement of furniture/fridge/coffeemaker was thoughtless and non functional. Too bad!

Review 112:Quiet setting in residential neighborhood amongst greenery and flowers. Spacious cabin.

Review 113:1. Speaking just for the unit we stayed in, the inside was well past its prime. The unit was dingy and dark. Upon entering we were struck by a damp, musty odor, strong enough that throwing the windows open was the first item on the agenda. 2. Fireplace: Ha! A tacky fake 1960s era electrical unit that also acted as a heater for the room. 3. Breakfast sounded very nice. And it is served in your room. The catch? Breakfast is served at 8:30am! That is not what we had in mind for a relaxing weekend getaway. 4. Miscellaneous minuses: The WiFi crawled. The bed was way too hard. The fridge cycling on and off was loud enough to interfere with sleep and we finally just unplugged it.

Review 114:1. Location: Within easy walking distance on flowered covered side streets to the center of Carmel. A great boon in a village where parking can be impossible. 2. Price: Considering its location you got value for your money. 3. Setup: The Inn is a rambling property of single and duplex units giving you a feeling of privacy. And even romance. 4. Landscaping: The property is filled with plants and flowers making you feel that you truly have arrived in Carmel by the Sea. 5. They allow pets! 6. Miscellaneous pluses: There was decent water quantity flowing both from the sink and the shower. There was a fridge and a microwave in the room.

Review 115:the cottage i stayed at (#245) needed some repairs: - right shutters were all broken - closet sliding doors were broke (unhinged), it couldn't be opened/closed. - one of the ceiling lights in the bathroom was missing. - we checked in at 3:50p, went to our cottage to drop off our luggage and left shortly to make our 4:30p reservations at dametra. awe came back around 7p (not sure what time) and found my cousin's sliding front window (#244) was slightly open but she never opened it. so i went and checked the windows in my cottage and found that the glass sliding window in my bathroom, even though it was close, was not locked and could be opened. even though nothing was missing, i did not feel secure staying in the cottage after that. - the "lace" curtain in the bathroom is too flimsy, should be replaced with a thick curtain that allows privacy because when you turn the bathroom lights on people outside can see inside. i placed a towel over the curtain to cover the window.

Review 116:- love the idea of staying in a cottage surrounded by trees! beautiful surrounding! - close proximity to "downtown" - peaceful and quiet area. - the staff (anna) and a guy (i didn't get his name) were wonderful, friendly, and very accommodating. TWO THUMBS UP for them!

Review 117:Could have better lighting near the microwave & refrigerator.

Review 118:the room was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast they serve every morning it was really great. Fresh fruit, yogurt, fresh muffins.not in town near shopping, but still conveniently located.great rate for a week night during spring break. I will go again.

Review 119:Run down, telephone did not work half the time. No fridge in our cottage and the shower pressure was very minimal. In need of sprucing up. Would not stay there again.

Review 120:Close off the major route between Monterey and Carmel and handy to downtown as most accomodations in Carmel are. Could sit outside of the cottage to have a smoke and a coffee.

Review 121:The layout of the room wasn't very efficient. For example, the bathroom was a decent size, but there wasn't any counter space for my husband and I to spread out our toiletries. The bed was uncomfortable and the bedspread seemed a bit musty. Overall, the facilities could use some upgrading.

Review 122:The cottage was quaint and a good size. Parking next to each room is convenient. You definitely get what you paid for-- not bad for a last minute overnight stay.

Review 123:Did not refill the things we used like the creamer. We stayed two nights. Breakfast was not what was expected as an option of breakfast is also included. Besides being served too late @ 8:30 am.

Review 124:Quiet, quaint, good value for the money.

Review 125:Scarce breakfast.

Review 126:We got upgraded to a suite for a small extra price. It was like a small apartment with all the appliances. Quiet, wonderful place very close to Carmel downtown. The staff was very friendly.

Review 127:It was truly peaceful and close to everything. The staff was very helful in directing us to neaby hiking areas and great restaurants. We all had a great time.

Review 128:The sink in the bathroom was cracked and looked dirty. Around the faucet & handles there was brown stuff. (mold) There was pipe rust & dirt particles coming out of the faucet of the sink. Water had a funny taste. Bath tub faucet pulled away form tub. Didn't take shower/bath so don't know how it worked.

Review 129:We had a 2 room cabin. Very nice for privacy. Good for one to go to bed and the other to watch TV. The breakfast basket was terrific and much appreciated. The bed was firm & comfortable. The couch & chair were nice to relax on before going to bed.

Review 130:Small parking spaces. Rooms are kind of right next to each other, could hear a baby playing and screaming all night while on site. Not recommended to have a large vehicle to park on site.

Review 131:The rooms were amazing. We had a small room booked, but was up graded to a better room. This room was bigger than my apartment. It was really welcoming, quiet and had a great view of the trees. Easy to get to the water and town, just a few blocks and breakfast was awesome to have in bed at the door at 0830hrs. We will return and experience more rooms.

Review 132:The staff in the reception was not the most welcoming and the whole place felt a bit anonymous as you do not see any hotel staff. Distance to Carmel center can be an issue if you do not want to drive. It was a good 15-20 minutes walk on dark roads with no light and no pavement to reach a restaurant.

Review 133:The idea of staying in individual cottages is nice. It's very quiet and my room No 22 was big, clean and had a parking just outside the entrance. Everything worked well and the breakfast basket in the morning is a nice touch.
