Reviews for Vilas Maria
Review 1:If you have mobility problems you will almost certainly want to drive to the local restaurants as there is quite a steep road between Vilas Maria and the main area where the restaurants are. Not a problem for us but might be for some. Don't let this stop you staying here though!
Review 2:Another lovely stay in this great location in Funchal. Clean, tidy, very comfortable, convenient for some great restaurants in the west end of the town, handy for a walk into the town centre and quiet with free parking, this is a great place to stay and we are already thinking about another return trip.
Review 3:Madeira itself is quite hilly - but the apartments are still quite close to the centre, so they're fine
Review 4:The lady who looks after the apartments was lovely, very warm and friendly. The apartments themselves were spotlessly clean, cleaned daily plus very regular changes of towels and linen, plus comfy beds. The gardens were pretty and the whole place was maintained to a very high standard.
Review 5:Airconditioning would have been great, cos the weather was very hot and humid. The road to the apartment was VERY steep. Very sweaty to walk from the shore.
Review 6:Used the own patio much, cos the room was quite hot.
Review 7:Noisy location - dogs barking day and night, pigeons, construction works nearby, concerts very close until 10pm. Rooms cleaned daily buy towels were not changed in 10 days and cupboards and tables for example were sticky. Pots too small to cook for 2 people for 2 days. Tarrace was difficult to use as in the morning it was already hot there and neighbours were very close. Thin walls, we heard every word of neighbours speaking loud. It's run more like a hotel - we've seen the owner only once when she came to collet the money, no advice on what and where to see/eat, but there is no reception when you arrive. We had a visit of 2 coakroaches.
Review 8:Very nice cleaning lady. Rooms are cleaned every day.
Review 9:A little far from the city centre (for us it was a plus!) and located on the hill, so walking back home from the beach may be tiring for some people.
Review 10:Very nice, comfortable apartment in more quiet part of Funchal. Cleaning was done every day by very nice cleaning lady. Shops nearby, apartment located relatively close to the beach.
Review 11:A lot of cockroaches in our room.
Review 12:- Very nice guest house with a terrace- a well-equipped kitchen - wifi - often disconnects (probably the router flaw)
Review 13:The only thing was the bed. We got 2 individual beds. Very comfortable, but had to put them together and it keeps splitting on the middle. But even though I'll definitely be back to Vilas Maria.
Review 14:Good facilities, makes you feel home. The cleaning lady and owner are super sweet and helpful. Thank you!!
Review 15:I absolutely loved Vilas Maria! We stayed for 6 nights (although we booked 7 nights, but our flight got delayed and we got there the next day, and Helena was kind enough to charge us for only 6 nights, without us even asking!) and it was great! Our room had a large terrace, perfect for a morning coffee or a late night glass of wine. We also had a kitchen, a living room, bedroom and bathroom and a place for doing laundry. I loved the fact that it was very clean, Teresa was cleaning our room everyday, doing our dishes - when we were coming back home, the place looked exactly like in the first day, everyday! I actually felt bad about not doing our own dishes :) But what I appreciated most was a birthday gift with a card, that I found on the table on my birthday - and I never told them it was my birthday, they must have got it from the form we filled in when we first arrived! It was a lovely and totally unexpected gesture and it showed, once again, how considerate they are. So, thank you, Vilas Maria, for a lovely week! :)
Review 16:Small kitchen (frying pan, chopping board...) with ants roaming around is a minor annoyance if you are going to use the kitchen a lot.
Review 17:The studio was comfortable and clean. It was a good place to refresh between our trips.
Review 18:We loved the place. Nice south facing terrace to enjoy a drink after exploring Funchal. Very good location. Restaurants, Supermarket and Laundry within walking distance and also coffee shops to have breakfast. We would def stay here again. Owners very nice. Cleaning done everyday. We had a car, you can park just outside and there are extra car spaces just at the bottom of the road. The bus also goes by as it does the open top city tour bus.
Review 19:This is a very comfortable and clean apartment in the west side of Funchal. There is adequate free parking - we parked right outside the gate every day. The free wifi is reasonable fast and reliable. The are some excellent restaurants a few hundred meters away down a short hill. We had some very good food at some very reasonable prices - perhaps as a result of being a little outside the city centre. It is an easy 30 minute walk into the centre of Funchal with a couple of short hills on the way. The main road to pretty much everywhere else on the island is only a couple of minutes away by car (but not audible from the apartment) so it is very easy to go out for the day. All in all, a very nice break in a lovely apartment in a brilliant icy with lots to do and see - gardens, museums, the famous toboggan ride and various boat tips for sealife and birds. Madeira has lots to offer.
Review 20:- nothing really, other than a couple of ants, but who really cares
Review 21:- Absolutely everything we needed - Brilliant staff. - Loved the mini-kitchen, with two espresso pots (great coffee lover)
Review 22:No heating, in "Winter" a little bit chily
Review 23:Very friendly staff WiFi was excellent, even when used 4 devices Good location Enough parking around to park for free, only if there is a football game Very clean and fresh looking appartment
Review 24:It's not really negative but you have to know it: The old town is not really nearby. After strenous hiking tours we were not in the mood to walk to town and back; we went by car. But we knew that in advance and it was no problem.
Review 25:Nice little studio with good beds, kitchenette, own terrace with table and chairs. Calm surroundings. Next supermarket with bakery and best rolls we found on Madeira only ca. 300 m away. Very friendly and flexible owner. Very good WLAN-internet.
Review 26:quite hot to sleep - even if it was already September and the outside temperature around 23 C.
Review 27:good price, clean room and bathroom, nice staff (Teresa makes the beds every day, cleans all the dishes). good location - walk to city center takes 20-25 minutes with nice views, going back is up-the-hill but by average fitness no problem (alt. going back by bus, bus stop just around the corner)
Review 28:If you want to sleep for long it is a bit difficult because only few meters from the apartments (8 all together) behind the bush there are two Roosters wake us up every single morning just around 6 am up till 9 in 30 sec gaps. It was annoying but you can get use to it. What we did just switched on the internet radio application on our phone and listened and tried to sleep. So you better to go to sleep early and wake up early :)
Review 29:We really liked our room and it was clean. Theresa the cleaning lady came every day except Sunday to give a general cleaning for the apartment changing towels, sheets and do the dishwashing as well. Liked the set up of the room, no air con but do not worry you do not need much the fan on the ceiling works quet and brilliantly.
Review 30:No tourist info. They should have a pack with basics like nearest supermarket, bus into centre etc. No washing up liquid or cloth - I much prefer S/C apts that provide the basics like cleaning fluids and salt / oil for cooking. Noisy fan (Room #4).
Review 31:Daily cleaning (except Sunday) was a pleasant surprise - many S/C apartments give you a brush and leave you to your own devices. Big apartment, bus around the corner (#45 Nazaré / Centro), great bakery (Sesamó) in walking distance.
Review 32:The cooking pans were not ideal. The ceiling fan made too much noise to keep on at night at the appartment was incredibly hot making sleeping difficult.
Review 33:Free WiFi and parking on the street in front of the house. Beautiful and well taken care of property with very friendly staff!
Review 34:We stayed there for 8 days, fantastic staff, so helpful and friendly. Great location, easy to get to Funchal city centre, beach. Great wi-fi
Review 35:everything
Review 36:Good place if you have a car and want to see the whole Madeira. Very nice staff
Review 37:Ants in the kitchen the first week Far from grocery store
Review 38:Good neighborhood Close to bus stop Close to hotel strip Beautiful view on New Years Really nice Very good housekeeping
Review 39:There was no kettle to make hot drinks easily, and the hot water ran cold too soon. (Maybe only a problem in the winter.)
Review 40:Everything else: Friendly and helpful owner. Clean, tiidy, quiet and comfortable studio. Fly screens. Close to bus routes and a lavada walk.
Review 41:Distance to the centre a bit to far to do this each time by feat. (But busstation was nearby)
Review 42:the appartment was rather large and had a nice big terras south oriented
Review 43:Beautiful locality of studios, very friendly personal and owner, daily clenening servis. There were everything, what we need for our holiday. I am looking forward to go there again.
Review 44:Lovely place for an excellent price. Would definitely recommend.
Review 45:no WiFi
Review 46:Wonderful place, clean, comfortable, spacious and quiet. Very friendly staff. Bus stop nearby. Highly recommended
