Reviews for Anchorage Inn and Suites

Review 1:Hot tub was closed. Not their fault they were cleaning but a little disappointed

Review 2:Everyone was very nice and the hotel was very clean. Had a great stay!

Review 3:Wish yoghurt had been a breakfast choice. Should be a 24 hour coffee bar in lobby. Christmas decorations were tacky. Lots of hanging pots of dead chrysanthemums were hanging outside in front of building in late December. Lobby & breakfast area needs updating.

Review 4:Very helpful lady at front desk, comfortable room. Great location.

Review 5:the pool was too cold and the room was very cold on Sunday

Review 6:ease of getting to your room. the staff was very help full. the hot tub was great. beds were very nice, enough pillows and blankets. the room was set up very nicely. breakfast were very good.

Review 7:Could see the hotel from the circle, but couldn't get there! Lots of bleach used in linens, had a reaction......

Review 8:Helpful staff, exercise room where everything worked! Room was clean, but cold when we arrived. Nice and quiet.

Review 9:There was no WiFi on Sunday am and the receptionist on duty had to be almost bullied into contacting the providers, which she finally did and the problem was resolved. Breakfast was very basic but adequate as one included in the tariff but the plastic cutlery was totally useless - knives bending when spreading butter etc

Review 10:I would have given the staff 4 smiles thanks to reception support on Saturday when we arrived - I think his name was Tom or Sam but he couldn't have been more obliging with help with luggage and local knowledge. Room was comfortable and clean and carpark convenient.

Review 11:The room was noisy and not well maintained. Although requested, we did not receive any additional coffee packets or plastic cups after the first day. It was hit-or-miss if the trash was emptied.

Review 12:We liked the location of the hotel to the interstate and sites that we were planning to visit. The hotel staff was helpful and pleasant.

Review 13:Spa was broken. Painting was "in process" and painters tape all over hallways and doors. Just looked sloppy.

Review 14:Staff was friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. Location was good . , close enough to downtown without being too crowded.

Review 15:The property was fine, with no complaints. An improvement would be to have a breakfast meat offered. Even that is no big deal. It was a fine stay for our purposes.

Review 16:The room was not as expected, it was below grade, windows met lawn, could not open windows, facing street and raining. could not regulate air temp in room and beds were not really comfortable. The set up for the breakfast did not flow at all.

Review 17:The proximity to downtown Portsmouth

Review 18:The hotel is near several busy Interstate roads, but the sound insulation made this tolerable.

Review 19:Friendly staff. The pool and spa were a great bonus. Easy, safe and convenient parking behind the hotel. It is a short drive into the touristically relevant centre.

Review 20:The room smelled of disinfectant and mold. It was dirty and falling apart. I complained to the front desk asked for the manager. Got no response.

Review 21:Nothing

Review 22:On Sept.6&7 we stayed at the Anchorage and my left a sweater. When my wife called, the person at the desk said they had the sweater and would charge our credit card on file and send the sweater. She has received the sweater

Review 23:Outdated, room not the cleanest. The front desk staff was not very friendly and looked very unkempt. No help with guidance as to where to go for dinner. Breakfast selection minimal and almost out of everything (at 7:00 AM)

Review 24:Close to the Interstate.

Review 25:Bathroom was small and pretty dirty. Stains on shower curtain, mold on walls... Clearly needs updating. We bought a room spray just to help get rid of the funk smell. Most staff was very friendly, one lady was rude when we asked for some extra pillows.

Review 26:Location was amazing. Overall we would stay again, just not expect it to be as nice as the pictures made it seem.

Review 27:Very noisy with road traffic noise. Room had old TV with non working remote control. Furniture was basic and well worn. This hotel is on our list not to visit again.

Review 28:Convenient location

Review 29:There is not much you possibly can like about this place. Advertise they are privately owned. Seem to me the place needs some investments. No noise isolation (windows) at rooms. 3rd level is just awfully loud. Pictures from the rooms are much nicer on the photos than in reality. Altogether it was just not a clean place to be. Definitely not worth the stay. When complaining at check-out we got the normal trained answers in the "typical" nice american way of saying "I hear you" style. This places makes its money from tourists and travellers, travelling by, in need for a place to rest. I really wonder how this place got its high ranking, which was another decision why we checked in as we were approaching the place from the motorway. Advice: Pay the next level and stay in a hotel nearby if you need to stay as close to the motorway.

Review 30:Nothing.I would nerer go there again.

Review 31:We arrived after 1 am and a wide awake desk person was there to cheerfully freet us! The locatipn is very convenient and ithe breakfast was substantial. Very friendly staff'

Review 32:We arrived after 1 AM

Review 33:The room was dirty there was no ice in the ice machines and no drinks in the vending machines and the price for the room was way to high for what we got

Review 34:The location was convenient and the staff was friendly

Review 35:I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that some of the rooms may have been updated but the rooms we got hadn't yet (stayed there during peak season and the hotel was sold out, I think by the time we checked in we got the last couple rooms). But the rooms we had were awful. Old disgusting carpet, it was a non-smoking room that definitely smelled smoked in and had to open the windows to air it out, the shower was dirty so we wore flip-flops to take a shower. As much as they charge for a night's stay there, there's no way those rooms should be so dated and in such a need of a good reno.

Review 36:Staff let us out of 2nd night of reservation without charging for it.

Review 37:Room smelled when we got there, beds were very hard, room very small, breakfast was included but ran out of fruit, only carbs served, property needs attention. Would not recommend or go back. Staff in dining room had ear phones on while working.

Review 38:Beds were too small. I thought we would have 2 queens. They were full. The bed was too soft. I have back issues so I need a firmer mattress.

Review 39:I liked the hotel & the location

Review 40:It was easy access to the highway. Convenient location to get to downtown. Information on nearby attractions were readily available for the travelers.

Review 41:What's not to like? We love The Anchorage Inn and Suites. They have by far the best pool anywhere in Portsmouth and the rock sauna in the pool area is just beautiful. The staff is friendly and accommodating.Especially Tom,he is just the best! The Anchorage just wouldn't be the same without him. Also want to mention Betty and Nicole they were so helpful when I called to request a room in the newly remodeled section. And our cleaning people,I believe they were husband and wife.Just the nicest people.Anchorage Inn is no.1 in our book ! :)

Review 42:summer visitors--The halls were not well ventilated nor is there AC in them. therefore the halls were a bit damp, warm and had a pretty strong chlorine smell most likely from the pool. It did not detract from our having a great time. The room and its AC was fine.

Review 43:we brought our two grandchildren (9 and 6) to Water Country and found this conveniently located motel that was a great value ($40-50/night cheaper). We had an experience that was "as expected" for the price we paid. The kids were ecstatic over the pool and breakfast in the morning. Loved the mural in the parking lot.

Review 44:Very clean. Everything was in good condition. The pool and hot tub were great. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was nice. Although some of the amenities (such as a tube TV) were a little dated, they were all in good condition, and some portions of the hotel had been renovated/updated.

Review 45:Breakfast is served only until 9 am. Till 10 am would be more acceptable, furthermore, there were never enough boiled eggs on the few occassions that eggs were served - stingy! The fitneess room could have a few dumbells, elastics and mats.

Review 46:The location is central enough to downtown and the nearby shopping malls.

Review 47:The a/c didnt work, the outlets are rigged to only work 1 at a time, the bathroom light is on a timer, the rugs were damp, the pool had scum around the top,the hot tub was broken.....

Review 48:The hotel is close to the interstate, local restaurants.,and shopping.... Plenty to do when your out and about.

Review 49:There was no hot water when I took a shower. Brrr. Mostly bread for breakfast. Boiled eggs would be nice and more fruit maybe.

Review 50:The location was close to I-95 which was very convenient. I thought the Jacuzzi looked nice although I forgot to bring my bathing suit.

Review 51:Good parking, excellent wifi (some hotels promise it but don't always deliver) clean and quiet, decent breakfast which is good when you get up early and want to start your day.

Review 52:Very strong chlorine smell from the pool, old TV, low water pressure, nothing was within walking distance, room felt okay but not entirely clean for some reason, no login for wifi

Review 53:Easy to find, easy parking, a little area for people to hang out in the front (dining style), location was pretty close to downtown Portsmouth (but not really walkable), good free wifi

Review 54:Had to move to different, older unit due to A/C fan being NOISY and from a bright outside unit to a dingy unit in the older part of the facility, but it was considered a suit w/ a small bathroom w/o shelves.

Review 55:Location

Review 56:I did not like that our curtain was broken, the room keys kept deactivating, the pool had too much chlorine and the hot tub did not work our entire week stay.

Review 57:I liked the breakfast and eating area was kept clean. I liked the location as food and entertainment close by.

Review 58:Nicole, working the front desk took at least ten minutes of her time to show us various restaurants, parks and theater in the park in the area. She was extremely friendly and helpful. We wish we were visiting Portsmouth for more than one day. Great experience overall.

Review 59:Was a little disappointed the jets didnt work in the jacuzzi and the bed wasnt very soft

Review 60:I loved the pool area and the fact it was open till 11pm, Also the sauna

Review 61:The noise level from people staying in room above us @12:30 in the morning. But I called the front desk, many others had too, and within 5 min it was taken care of. Also, bathroom door stuck, wouldn't close completely to lock and was hard to open. Tub looked a little worn.

Review 62:Close proximity to downtown and major roads, easy to get around.

Review 63:The floor was really dirty. The bathtub was old and dirty looking. The room smelled very strongly of cigarettes.

Review 64:The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 65:When we first arrived at the hotel our room smelled like a wet basementand very musty. Then they "upgraded" us to a smoking roomwhich smelled believe it or not better than the other one. The nextmorning my husband woke up with bites all over him we didn't thinkmuch of it until the next day when they were inflamed painful and itchy. We came to the conclusion that they were bedbugs bites, we know thisbecause he had them when he was younger. We called them and explainedwhat happened and they hung up. We called back and before we could evenexplain ourselves they hung up again. We spent over $350 for him to getbedbugs, be surrounded in smoke, and to be treated awfully. Never go tothis hotel! Worst experience of all hotels I have ever been to in myentire life.

Review 66:Had a room that was very good but the 2 pedestal sinks did not have anycounter space or towel hangers. The sinks look nice but something ismissing. You cant keep a shave bomb in your teeth or pocket while youshave. Women also need counters or shelves for their stuff.

Review 67:Lots of space & good firm bed.

Review 68:The breakfast café was poorly kept, had to find someone to clean off a table with caked on food, cereal area had cereal all over it, milk everywhere, poor upkeep, garbage falling out of pails, food was okay but not clean, some mornings my daughter wouldn't even eat there. Had to ask for toilet paper, maid left four squares on roll without an extra roll. Sorry.

Review 69:Hotel was conveniently located to points North and South. Rooms were decorated nicely, comfortable bedding, large bathroom, overall, nice.

Review 70:shower is somewhat slow and shower pad was colored.

Review 71:they have all the useful facilities: printers to print the boarding pass, swimming pool, 24/7 coffee/hot coca, gym (only treadmill works though) and the continental breakfast.

Review 72:The lights in our room didn't work, different switches would turn off the microwave and alarm clock, but could never get certain lights to turn on.

Review 73:The access to the highway is perfect.

Review 74:The hotel wreaked of pool chlorine and we could smell it as far as in our room on the 2nd floor at the far end of the building. It made an adequate place for our purposes almost unbearable.

Review 75:The convenience of the location. The gentleman who was working the night we checked in was really working hard at problem solving for others and had a wonderful disposition in the face of a lobby full of people, two of whom had reservation issues, and a phone ringing too.

Review 76:Window was open and wouldn't close so room was hot and humid. Spent and hour fixing it. Some of the outlets didn't work so we had to keep changing outlets to use fridge and microwave

Review 77:The hot tub and pool set up was nice

Review 78:The only thing was the bed. If you have back issues, the bed was not the greatest. My husband has a bad back so he was a little uncomfortable. But the rest of us were just fine.

Review 79:The staff was very friendly and helpful, The room was very clean. This was our 2nd stay here and we were not disappointed. A great value for the money.

Review 80:The water pressure was low and the fixtures on the shower could be replaced but it was clean.

Review 81:The room was pretty clean and the hotel itself was clean as well.

Review 82:TV was antiquated, room was cramped. coffee machine was stacked on the micro wave which was stacked on the mini refridgerator. one waste basket in bathroom only.

Review 83:location

Review 84:we had asked for adjoining rooms, but when I called that morning to confirm this with the front desk they told me that booking.com had not communicated this to them so they could not do it. They offered rooms that were directly across from each other as a next best option. When we got there our rooms were 4 doors away from each other. Housekeeping did not even finish cleaning one of the rooms the next day....

Review 85:Pool was not crowded and the location was great!

Review 86:Drippy faucet, stains on the rugs in our room and in the hallway, it was so muggy in the hotel that our room key would take 8-15 swipes before it would open, and at 8:30am all the fruit (bananas) was eaten and not replaced.

Review 87:The pool and hot tub were nice and not crowded. It was convenient to have a microwave and fridge in the room.

Review 88:Wifi was terrible never worked while we were there unless we were in the front lobby. All squeaky floors throughout. Rooms need to be aired out more. And bath tubs were old looking.

Review 89:The staff were good, amenities were good, and breakfast was ok.

Review 90:Our room was located on the same floor as the pool. The hallways were very humid and had a strong smell of chlorine. The television was outdated and had no cable choices for movies, which would have been nice after a long day sight seeing.

Review 91:The room was very clean and cheerful. The staff was very pleasant and helpful with directions to around town venues. There is ample parking. I would definitely go back again :)

Review 92:They didn't have us booked for the three nights we reserved even after calling the hotel personally and confirming our dates.

Review 93:The guy that helped us was super nice. The location was nice to be able to get to different cities and places near by

Review 94:for what we needed, we had no issues....

Review 95:Very friendly, happy person at check in. Kids loved the waffles at breakfast. Location is super convenient to the highway.

Review 96:The sink in the room was a pedestal sink with almost no edge to set anything and it was a little tilted, so anything you set on it ended up in the basin of the sink.

Review 97:The location was very convenient, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and it was very quiet.

Review 98:the only thing I didn't like was it seems like they didn't keep up the cleaning in the breakfast area. One table with sticky stuff from syrup. in the waffle maker head pieces of burnt waffle just stuck to it. they just need to keep on top of the cleanliness in the breakfast area and its all good

Review 99:Overall it was a pleasant stay. I would book a room again.

Review 100:Room had not been cleaned- very dirty-food in microwave, beer bottles under the bed, dirty dishes. Burn marks on sheets, ashtray in the room(non-smoking room!) Bathroom dirty. Black dirt in dresser drawers. Hot tub jets not working. Owner informed -no response Will not be back….

Review 101:Breakfast and computer.

Review 102:Expensive for what we got. I had to move the microwave in order to plug it in. The picture on the tv was horrible. Couldn't buy movies either. We were traveling with an infant so we had to stay in the room from 8 pm on and it would've been nice to get a movie.

Review 103:The staff was nice and check in/out was very quick and easy!

Review 104:The room had a nasty smell like stinky feet. The room was first level, which was partially underground, and the curtain did not close the whole way. Had to hold the curtain closed with a hair clip all night.

Review 105:Location was great, not too far from downtown, but far enough away from the busy areas. Staff were very friendly.

Review 106:noise from bedrooms upstairs and from AC next windows ( we were on the west wing, 1st level)

Review 107:* the pool well heated and hot tube clean * breakfast *convenient location to visit Portsmouth

Review 108:For the 2nd time the hot tub was out of order which is 1 of the major perks for me. Also, I still think breakfast should be done at 10 instead of 9

Review 109:I like this place and have been here several times and will return.

Review 110:Continental breakfast was okay... fresh waffles, but otherwise not a lot of variety or fresh fruit. Older style TV had channel options, but lacked hi-def.

Review 111:Renovated, unique hot tub & pool area. Waterfall hot tub. Good quality hotel for the price. Kids stay free. Breakfast included.

Review 112:I ordered a smoking room online but didn't find out until after I got there that they had none available. Too late to change my reservation to someplace else.

Review 113:The front desk staff were very helpful. Suggesting a cab instead of trying to find parking downtown was an excellent suggestion and very reasonable. He took the time to show us some of the places we were looking for on a map at the desk when we checked in. Overall, the room was clean and well stated. This is not a five star hotel, but is ample for an overnight.

Review 114:Heater fan sounded like it was going to explode. Loud banging noise the entire time it was on. Had to shut off to sleep, then room became cold.

Review 115:Staff immediately noted issues with heater fan and logged it to be repaired.

Review 116:The hot tub was not working and that's what is adults look forward to

Review 117:We always stay here as the grandkids love the pool and the pool stays open until 10 pm which is nice

Review 118:I didn't notice a bathroom anywhere near the pool. I never go in a pool if there isn't a bathroom nearby because I'm concerned about what might be in the pool. The hot tub was closed, this is usually a 'red flag' for me-sanitation may be an issue. Yogurt would be a good addition to the breakfast. Otherwise everything was great.

Review 119:Very quiet.

Review 120:Room was freezing and never warmed up. Electric heat and had left off,or minimal, till we got in room. Walls very thin and loud, loud folks all night long. General lack of insulation meant cold room and up most of night with people in all or either side.

Review 121:Fine with pets, location, and fun pool when traveling with kids

Review 122:1st room - still charge same as rooms in other parts of Hotel (Room 102) in theory it shouldn't even been rented unless absolutely necessary! It was terrible, 2nd room fine - disappointed with Management comment - "don't usual allow dogs in the 2nd room (105) - They have no problem charging $20 per night but want to confine you to certain rooms!! If you are going to charge that kind of price you should not restrict where the client stays!!

Review 123:Location - 2nd room we were assigned. Included breakfast fair! Lady who moved us was very helpful.

Review 124:Mattress was terrible. My husband still has a back ache. Pillows uncomfortable also.

Review 125:Room was nice, convenient to exits and lobby. Staff was friendly and breakfast was great.

Review 126:The carpet in our room was very dirty. My feet got black walking in my barefeet. It needs to be shampooed.

Review 127:The whirlpool, the bathroom was nice in our room.

Review 128:The mattress was hard. The shower curtain needed a good cleaning.

Review 129:The facility was in good condition and generally very clean. It was easy to get in and out of the facility. I slept soundly despite its location to the major roadways. The person at the desk was extremely helpful and courteous.

Review 130:We didn't even end up staying. The pool chlorine smell was burning our eyes. We were up on the 3rd floor no where near the pool. We last about 30 mins before checking out and going somewhere else.

Review 131:The accommodations are quite nice, as good as much more expensive hotels I have been to, but for an affordable price. Some of the staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. My only complaint was that on our first stay the bedding on one bed was not clean.

Review 132:the complimentary breakfast was a bit of a free for all, with too many people for the tables and chairs available. To be fair there was some kind of reunion going on that weekend so no idea if it is normally as bad as that.

Review 133:Staff were friendly and helpful, location was good, close to the major roads, breakfast was good once you got to it. There is an indoor pool although we didn't make use of it.

Review 134:Pass card doors required special finesse to open. More of a mechanical function than electrical.

Review 135:Cozy, smaller room w/ dated fixtures. It was like stepping into a mild time warp. Windows that actually open! Feel the cool night breeze.

Review 136:The bathroom had a used piece of soap behind the toilet. Gross. When I told them about it....they said they would take care of it ... went down there and guess what??? STILL THERE!!! Internet did not work at all.

Review 137:The pool and Hot Tub was Nice
