Reviews for Hotel de Flandre

Review 1:nothing

Review 2:I've stayed here many times. Always friendly staff, clean, cozy and great location in Ghent. The bar has a nice selection, lots of great restaurants nearby or there's conveniently a grocery across the street if going out to a restaurant isn't in your night's plans. I would also recommend this hotel for a couple visiting the city.

Review 3:Rooms in annex have poor and potentially dangerous access up slipperry steps which are poorly lit. Bathroom needs updating - shower poor.

Review 4:Location, staff & breakfast

Review 5:Unforeseen circumstance meant we couldn't travel - we got a full refund for our travel from megabus who were understanding even though they havea no refund policy, but the hotel would not budge at all - not even a % of the amount. Very disappointed

Review 6:breakfast was very poor. both in terms of being very crowded, and in terms of having run out of certain of the food options

Review 7:room was comfortable with food facilities

Review 8:The value for our money, we paid a lot of money and the room was not worth that amount and the breakfast was not even included.

Review 9:I liked the location of the hotel, it was right in the city centre.

Review 10:It had been cool so the heating was turned on. Our room was towards the busy street so having the windows open at night was impossible. A fan was supplied but that only helped a little. Too warm.

Review 11:Basically everything. Lovley breakfast, helpful staff, clean and good beds.

Review 12:Very central hotel with delightful and extremely friendly and helpful staff, both at reception and at breakfast. Tremendous value, wonderful varied possibilities for breakfast, lovely architecture, extremely comfortable room, we highly praise this lovely hotel.

Review 13:The location is close to the historic centre but not noisy. A half hour pleasant walk or a short metro ride to the main train Station Gent St Peter's.

Review 14:The hotel is not fulfilling 4 star criteria. Price of EUR 142 without breakfast out of proportion On arrival no staff at reception. First room in another building complex across the road, smelly with mold and freezing cold in October. Phone not activated. Back to reception where it was cosy warm - according to receptionist because of the computer! According hotel leaflet heating on as of October - but got the info that this was not yet activated. Got another room with 16 degrees. Rooms need renewal. Can only regret receptionist to be exposed to bad management and getting frustration of guests. No compensation.

Review 15:I think there was not enough staff at the time of arrival. Only one very friendly girl at the desk and that was all the staff there was?

Review 16:Very friendly staff. Location is great in the middle of the city centre!

Review 17:next to a music school

Review 18:the location nearto the centre, the size of the room (big enough for an extra adult bed), the choice of the breakfast buffet, friendliness of the staff

Review 19:Staff efficient enough money, but their heart's not in it. Courtyard rooms and courtyard grim and dangerous to get to in the rain. Main rooms in front of building are lovely although sockets don't work and they get a lot of noise from the street (4am daily deliveries to the Spar shop opposite)

Review 20:Location, housekeeping staff are lovely

Review 21:The staff member sent woman housekeeper to solve situation which she could not do. My husband asked to speak to manager but every excuse was used.

Review 22:We got moved room because the door of the room would not close or lock but took ages for staff to actually believe that there was a fault

Review 23:Wifi was terrible and wouldn't connect in both rooms at times, windows are difficult to open

Review 24:Location was good, I got ill whilst on my stay and after a bit of back and forth, the receptionist allowed us to book another room for another night and for me to be able to move straight from the old to the new room

Review 25:hotel is split up into two locations and we had to walk to the location, must be a thing in Belgium as every hotel Ive been to is like that...also we got eaten by mosquitos(not the fault of the hotel)

Review 26:Close to city center, clean and new rooms

Review 27:airconditioning is not a morden one

Review 28:Location, bathroom, coffee & tea facility, loft room, view on the city, very friendly & helpfull staff, parking was 10 eur per day

Review 29:Our shower head was broken and when we reported it they said they knew. So if they knew why didn't they fix it before we arrived?

Review 30:Excellent location short walk to the centre. Lovely spacious room.

Review 31:Very hot room, airco not operation, breakfast overcharged,

Review 32:Comfortable bed and staff was helpful. Great location, just a few minutes from the riverside. Public parking is close to the hotel and not overly expensive

Review 33:The staff were friendly and very helpful, even providing a secure place for our luggage after we had booked out, so that we could enjoy more time in Ghent.

Review 34:Strange situation being in the annex - zero character and a reasonable walk from the main building. We paid a lot for what was very functional, but lacked charm.

Review 35:Nice room in new annex, breakfast good, location great, staff fine

Review 36:Rooms we had were in an annex 100m up the road from main hotel building

Review 37:Parking nearby in public car park €11 per night and 2 mins walk into town centre

Review 38:Bathroom was not private enough and we didn't get fresh towels on Saturday. Also phone was not working in our room. mini bar was way too expensive....

Review 39:Bed was comfortable, location great.

Review 40:For the price we paid we expected a lot more and when booking they did not follow our requests with a corner bath as per photos and warm rooms. The breakfast should be included with the price you are extorted for rooms with cheap furniture but at €22 each we decided to pass. I would stay again if the price was much lower for what they offer (nothing like the photos)

Review 41:The location was central to where we wanted to go

Review 42:Not much choice if you want to order food in - but lots of cafes and a small supermarket across the road.

Review 43:Great location for visiting the town but quiet for sleeping. Terrific staff and food choices at breakfast, plus tea-making facilities in the room. Good sized room and able to adjust the temperature to suit.

Review 44:The wifi was weak and was unable to fully access my emails.

Review 45:The hotel I would describe as a Boutique Hotel. Very comfortable and large rooms. Prices very reasonable considering the location.

Review 46:Two single matrasses instead of one.

Review 47:Nice room! Comfy bed - one just falls into it, first bounces back a few times, then drowns in the matrass. Normal continental breakfast, enough variety. The best is the location - perfect for sightseeing!

Review 48:The room I was in lacked ventilation but air outlet of centralised air conditioning emitted hot air only despite setting to cooling. Hotel staff said they would switch to cooling only the week after.

Review 49:Good location Friendly staff Comfort of bed Room size reasonable Good breakfast High speed free wifi

Review 50:There was soo much noise outside, and we are not even light sleepers! It is opposite a supermarket and trucks started delivering just after 4am... the noise was such that we were woken up and that was the end of our nights sleep!! Also, due to the fact that we had to keep the windows closed to keep out the noise from passers by the room was airless and stuffy... not conducive to being comfortable.

Review 51:The hotel was fine...

Review 52:21 euro breakfast. I skipped it! Thats too much for any breakfast. Its not their fault but i got a parking ticket right outside the hotel at 9.20am, just 20 mins after the start of the parking tariff. One to watch for next time. Traffic wardens are up early!!

Review 53:A good price for a good hotel in the middle of Ghent. They informed me well on how and where to park during my stay.

Review 54:Inflexible air conditioning control policy. Room air conditioning unit emitted hot air only but could not be reset to cooling even if ambient temperature was high. Avoid room with poor ventilation.

Review 55:Excellent location Friendly staff Ease of car access Free WIFI with good speed

Review 56:The attic room, while large, had low beams which made me nervous especially using the bathroom at night

Review 57:Location; helpfulness and friendliness of staff

Review 58:Found it unusual that we had to vacate room @ 11am and were asked for 10 Euro if we want to stay until 12pm!! I travel to hotels in Europe all the time & this is first time there was a charge like this. Seems disgraceful to me.

Review 59:Great location. Hotel was very comfortable

Review 60:Inside was too warm. They said they couldn't do anything about it, but they instead offered us a free drink. The problem was minor and I wouldn't change my booking because of it. It is probably better by June when they turn on the AC.

Review 61:Probably an unlucky day: - No warm water - Poor signal of the internet connection - Strange smell in the bedroom - Electricity shut down during the night - Not well noise isolated, we could hear people walking and talking from other bedrooms.

Review 62:- Nice view from the bedroom on the city - Clean - Comfort - Kind Staff

Review 63:I was a little disappointed that I couldn't have an evening meal in the hotel as some nights I did not want to venture out due to the rain, but this was only a small issue.

Review 64:I loved the location as it was in easy walking distance to the beautiful town centre. The room was beautiful and unique.

Review 65:That it has no parking, but you can park in a pubic one within 5min walking.

Review 66:The hotel is in the heart of Gent, perfect location! The breakfast was amazing, a lot of bread types and butters, cheese, cereals, and different kind of sweets! It was the best part of our stay! The personal is really nice. Wifi is free and working perfectly from the 3rd floor. They provided free umbrellas during our stay, as it was raining!

Review 67:We were in the building across the street from the reception building. Bathroom with shower does not have a lock and is separated from the main room area with a thin wooden wall, which did not reach the ceiling.

Review 68:Location is awesome! Just a few minutes from the riverside Public parking is close to the hotel and not overly expensive The room was comfortable, especially the mattress, and staff was helpful

Review 69:We were not staying in the main hotel, but in another building, 50 metres down the road. Entrance through double doors into a courtyard, not very well lit, my girlfriend did not feel safe. Inadequate heating and lighting for the size of the room. Bathroom is actually part of the room separated by a wall of tiles that does not go up to the ceiling to create an individual room.

Review 70:Good location, right in the centre of Ghent. Free wifi. Very modern room.

Review 71:Room was very hot and noise from other guests and the spa opposite did wake us up regularly

Review 72:Amazing comfortable bed, delicious breakfast, great location

Review 73:Shower was luke warm NOT hot but quite powerful. Room got very hot in the morning.

Review 74:Friendly staff. Location hard to beat. Nice view of tower from room.

Review 75:- No parking. - Cold room when entered: 16 degrees. - Wifi signal almost not available. - Dangerous shower. - No carpet. Very cold tile floor. - Room not located in authentic building. - Terrible view. - Low quality room design. - Toilet not working well. - Sink not working well. - No toothbrush. - Very few towels. - Some alarm went off every hour until early in the morning.

Review 76:Bed was super and location towards centre was okay.

Review 77:This was a treat for our parents. We booked two executive rooms. The problem started when we had a shower which leaked and flooded the floor. We complained but no other room was offered. We were given some towels to clean it up ourselves! Breakfast was poor. Our parents had a broken light so could not read in their room. We tried to complain as we left but we're told managers do not work at weekend. They promised they would contact us but never did. Beautiful city don't bother with this hotel.

Review 78:Location, close to town.

Review 79:We were dissapointed with this hotel. We were in the building which was 500m away (as stated). It was more like a motel with outdoor corridor and we had to go to the main building for breakfast (500m long the street). The room was small and the furnishings basic. All this should be stated in the description of the hotel, then one know what to expect. Instead it is described as a 4 star hotel.

Review 80:When we arrived we were told the room we have reserved on line was not available and they had booked us into an out of town hotel 40 mins walk from the centre. Booked hotel de flandre because of its position. They said the town was full. There was accommodation at the Marriott but they refused to pay the extra very poor customer service. We had to stay in a premier inn type place spoilt our break.

Review 81:On arrival the room was only 10 degrees, damp and smelt musty. After 2hours it was only 14 degrees The two safe,s in the room could not be opened The room staff at 6pm had gone home so the safe,s could be opened. The reception enabled the heating to kept on so on return to the room at 10 pm the room was warm. The next morning the one safe was opened but it was not secured to the wall. The kettle plug was broken and never fixed, cob webs remained the duration of the stay. Never a four star hotel a three

Review 82:The location was excellent for the city and the public car park near by made the hotel worth consideration. The breakfast was acceptable but not fantastic

Review 83:Suggestion: More room to put plate down by hot buffet as the area was a bit cramped and you need both hands to work the lids and tongs.

Review 84:Very quiet street just a few seconds walk from the most attractive part of Gent. We liked the trouble free wifi. We liked the tea and coffee making in the room. Atmosphere and style inside was pleasing. Room swipe-card was unaffected by magnet on phone case! Nice breakfast and orange juice. Spacious room for the price.

Review 85:I found the bathroom a little odd. It was excellently appointed but the walls didn't reach the ceiling and wasn't very private. Every little, or big noise could be heard by whoever was in the bedroom.

Review 86:Just a two minute stroll from the canal and well placed for restaurants and bars. I will certainly stay here again if I revisit Ghent. We were in the annexe and even though we felt short changed at first, it was excellent. There was a music festival on when we arrived and a live jazz band was playing on a floating stage. The whole of the city was a traffic free zone on the Sunday so that children could ride bikes and roller skate in safety. There was live music, food, markets and festivities throughout the city. All were accessible on foot from the hotel.

Review 87:Paid for a romantic package... Had to remind hotel staff what was booked, meant to be a surprise for my wife suprise lost!! In room safe didn't work... Member of staff came to look at it just before their shift finished, still didn't work..

Review 88:Room size, clean and position near to town

Review 89:Breakfast was expensive, so we ate out every morning, which worked out well for us anyway!

Review 90:Hotel was in a great location, very close to the historic center. The room was large and comfortable, and the bathroom was modern and clean. Free wifi was much appreciated.

Review 91:Only 2 very small bath towels Just one minature piece of soap Air conditioning not working properly Very noisy street

Review 92:Breakfast Size of bathroom Staff

Review 93:shower is too tiny: less space than a cruise ship; average-size person can't avoid rubbing against the plastic shower curtain. must pay for wifi, though charge is minimal. no a/c: therefore street noise & mosquitoes with windows open for air. thin walls: quiet neighbors are heard. no tea pot in room.

Review 94:great breakfast. central location. clean. main front door locked at night for security. several hooks in bathroom for towels and coat hooks at entry. door.

Review 95:we were given the annex which was a two minute walk from the hotel, in fact is closer to another hotel. Breakfast was served in main hotel. The annex looks a little more derelict with horrid looking metal stairs. Floors were bare no carpets so very cold. plug sockets hanging off wall and bathroom extractor not working

Review 96:hotel positioned well, breakfast was good, room had all that was needed and very spacious

Review 97:I was booked in the guest house of the hotel on the other side of the street. I felt uncomfortable because no reception or personal in the guest house. I could not really lock my room door during the night and everybody from outside could enter the guest house. Also the minibar prices where much to high by my experiences.

Review 98:I was staying in the separate bilding from the main hotel. The room was extremely dark even if the sun was shining outside I still had to turn on lights to be able to see anything. It also rained quite a few times, so if I wanted to have breakfast for instance, I would have to face the rain, go down the street to have my coffee. Fortunately there was a cattle in the room.

Review 99:The location was great, room was clean, friendly staff, wi-fi worked fine. There was a cattle and a mini bar in the room which was great for a first coffee in the morning.

Review 100:they had a hidden city charge, the hotel had a smell of raw sourage from work going on even on the forth floor it was there. when i asked them to help me with the translation on the parking machines for my van, they simply pretented not to understand me until i got a bit fed up with them then the girl eventually came out and sorted it. translated

Review 101:central location

Review 102:The breakfast was too expensive and wish we had been reminded thatprice of room had not included breakfast as not sure we would have eaten there if we had known it was 20 euros each

Review 103:location fantastic and beds were v comfy! Glad there was air con

Review 104:It was noisy due to a boiler and cold

Review 105:Location

Review 106:Ample room, good location. Good value for money.

Review 107:The location is perfect with the centre within 2 minutes walk and also parking (11€ for 24hrs) just around the corner.

Review 108:1st floor room / felt unsafe

Review 109:location

Review 110:The service levels in the bar and restaurant were poor. The breakfast was terrible value for money. I would not rate this as a 4 star hotel.

Review 111:Didn't know we wouldn't be staying in the main part of the hotel

Review 112:Rooms were very comfortable

Review 113:Junior suite, geen minibar, geen koffie of thee of water in de kamer.

Review 114:Toplocatie pal in het centrum.

Review 115:Good location close to city center.

Review 116:Really spacious apartment and fully equipped.

Review 117:Ideally placed to visit gent

Review 118:power didn't work in bathroom, steep stairs to access room.

Review 119:good location, interesting room

Review 120:Cost of breakfast. Room smelly and unaired. Decor shabby

Review 121:Wifi was slow in our room

Review 122:Very friendly staff, the breakfast was excellent, and it was great value for money, especially as it was so centrally located.

Review 123:The cold water tap water was always warm Even after trying to run it for a while. So not nice to drink it.

Review 124:Location was good.

Review 125:Plug in sink broken, door lock faulty.

Review 126:Broken window fitment, but hotel aware.

Review 127:Quiet and comfortable room.

Review 128:The WiFi connection was poor. I prefer shower to bath.

Review 129:Marvellous room (loft) and location.

Review 130:Air conditioning not working properly.

Review 131:Location and courtesy rain umbrella in the room.
