Reviews for Moonstone Landing

Review 1:Amazing place, wonderful ,helpful and accommodating staff! Our sea facing room had the most amazing view, the room was really comfortable with a great fireplace!

Review 2:Updated room with very comfortable bed, great bath, ocean view from side window, good breakfast, except for relatively late breakfast opening (8:00am).

Review 3:Everything was pretty much perfect, but would only say the walls were quite thin so we could hear our neighbors coughing quite a lot throughout the night but it wasn't a huge issue.

Review 4:We stayed at Moonstone Landing for one night whilst driving down from San Fran to LA on our honeymoon. The room we had was perfect and huge in comparison to the other hotels we had stayed at during our time in the US. The room was really cosy too with its own log fire and slight sea views. The ladies on the front desk were extremely helpful recommending a really cosy restaurant - Robins in Cambria for dinner. We only wished we had more time available to stay longer at Moonstone Landing!

Review 5:The outside facilities looked like a lower-budget motel. We had to wander up and down the halls to find the reception area (in the back). The location, the staff, and the rooms makes it worth the price.

Review 6:The room was very nice. It was the little things such as mission style furnishings, a nice tile in the bathroom, a fireplace, extra plush towels, etc. that set this place apart. Super friendly staff.

Review 7:very sterile with NO character at all. the place feels like an apartment building and the rear lobby with plain cheap furniture does not help! we felt like we were at an airport hotel on a business trip... :-(

Review 8:this place is clean and in a good location

Review 9:breakfast is mostly cold stuff, room is not very sound proof. But these are minor compared to the cleanness and comfort.

Review 10:Excellent location on the beach. Room is super clean and cozy, fire place with temperature control keeps the room warm but not too hot. Ocean view.

Review 11:Cold continental breakfast (when a place bills itself as a B&B I expect a cooked breakfast...or at least scrambled eggs), room was too hot with no way to adjust the temperature, mattress was uncomfortable.

Review 12:Great location, nice staff, plenty of parking, large room. It's a lovely "boutique hotel" but I would not call it a "B&B". As long as you know what you're getting, it's really nice. With a few adjustments (breakfast, room temp, new mattress) it would be absolutely lovely.

Review 13:Staff unprepared for maintence problems. Poor breakfast for the money. Too few tables and seats in dining area for guests to eat. Many rooms front the parking lot with foot traffic looking into the rooms. Must keep all blinds down all day and night for privacy.

Review 14:Room was clean, comfortable and spacious. Location is conveniently seaside ....very scenic. Fireplace in the room is a plus as wel as. Fridge micro and coffe maker Bathrooms are large and very clean.

Review 15:I think they need to make more seating in breakfast room but it was OK as we took our food back to our room to eat at our own dining table.

Review 16:The size of the beds/room was great! Stunning view. Variety at breakfast was good.

Review 17:Loved the upper floor patio with ocean view. Loved the in-room fireplace. Loved the close proximity to Cambria, Hearst Castle, wine tasting & walking trails.

Review 18:The breakfast is not very good and the staff is rude. When I checked in, the receptionist didn't hear clearly my name at the beginning, then she said "again". After she found the record of my booking, she only remember to asked for credit card but forgot to give me keys and room number.

Review 19:The room is big and has fireplace. The location is perfect. It just few steps away from beach.

Review 20:Cleanness staff sea view

Review 21:Great place to have pacific sea view eight from your room balcony. Thank you to hotel management who upgrades our room to sea view. Had great experience of sun set and sun rise experience. Hotel is having all modern touch you need to enjoy your stay. We had really fun while staying in this hotel

Review 22:The bed was not comfortable, usually we like to stay in bed but the following morning we were up and ready to go as we did not get a good nights rest.

Review 23:Mary at the front desk is awesome!!

Review 24:Only concern is for summertime as there is no a/c

Review 25:Beautiful room, spacious, clean, w very modern shower, jacuzzi tub, and great amenities. Continental breakfast was excellent.

Review 26:The hotel while updated was nice but basic. The fireplace was a nice touch but only had one setting that made the room really hot and this was on a cold 40-50 dgree night. Fireplace is the only heat source in the room & to cool room you have to open the windows. It made for a bit of a challenge getting comfortable.

Review 27:Location was great so close to beach and restaurant. It's very quiet which was nice and there isn't much to do other than the beach which is pretty relaxing. Restaurant was good but pricey for avg seafood fare which is available everywhere. It's a bit of a drive to Paso wine country which is nice and close to Hearst Castle which was a highlight. We recommend heading north for food to organically Grown great cafe and restaurant w a view. The complimentary was good basic start to day.

Review 28:There isn't one thing we didn't like about this property. Location was awesome. Best staff around. The room was amazing. Really clean, (and I am OCD) and very comfortable. We didn't want to leave!

Review 29:The bathroom door needs adjustment to close properly. It would be nice to have some hot foods for breakfast such as make your own waffles and scrambled eggs.

Review 30:Lovely room with a view for a reasonable price.

Review 31:we thought the bed could of been more comfortable

Review 32:location, cleanness, décor, breakfast, the front staff was very friendly.. We thought the price was great for the hotel. we had a partial view, would of been lovely to have the ocean room with the balcony. we spent 4 nights and had a wonderful time in the area.

Review 33:Breakfast has no hot items, in a cramped room, only from 8 to 10am

Review 34:Superb if you go for the most expensive rooms with full sea view. All other rooms open on the parking lot.

Review 35:Hot tub working hours...but that's micro tiny minus

Review 36:We dis like management and staff attitude towards the client. How clean the room was and cozy design. Just adorable!

Review 37:Only regret was not booking a longer stay

Review 38:Second time staying at this hotel..first time was in a partial ocean view room on first floor and it was great..this time we decided to stay in the 2nd floor balcony room and it was amazing!, you can't beat the view, the bathroom was a nice upgrade with the spa tub, we enjoyed bringing the complimentary breakfast back to the room and enjoy on the balcony

Review 39:Smoker two balconies away upstairs--smoking from 2-4am couldn't open screen door to enjoy ocean sounds.

Review 40:Informative staff, magnificent room, convenient location, beautiful views, beautiful views, privacy...

Review 41:At night there is not a lot of options for dining. If staying, I would recommend making a reservation at a local restaurant. The closest two needed reservations or you had to wait.

Review 42:The room was lovely and the beds comfortable. Included breakfast was great to.

Review 43:Bed was only ok-king size with a big dip in middle

Review 44:Location was great-partial ocean view. Room very clean, staff friendly and helpful. Made excellent recommendations for dining.

Review 45:No air-con!

Review 46:Very homely spacious room made our overnight stay next to the Ocean and very good experience. Best food ever at grill up the road in easy walking distance!!

Review 47:Moonstone Landing lived up to its promise and then some. We had two oceanfront rooms, each with a patio, and the views were breathtaking. The room and bathroom were spotless, and the staff were so friendly and very helpful. I was afraid that the website photos and reviews I read before the trip wouldn't be accurate, but they were right on!!!!!

Review 48:Paying the big bucks........but it was the husband's birthday! Breakfast started too late (8am) and there wasn't any real fresh fruit .....

Review 49:If you pay the big bucks ($308)........you get a BEAUTIFUL view and balcony overlooking the ocean!

Review 50:Poor air flow, checkout before noon, not cool. Continental breakfast could use ollaliberry preserves and a wafflemaker. rates good, but down the street provides somewhat of a better value while sacrifcing a bit of ascetic appeal

Review 51:Location and room design and decor

Review 52:Hours could be a litter earlier for morning breakfast. plus 1 more hot food option.

Review 53:location - location. the staff was very helpful & supplied us with ideas for dining etc. House keeping was well above avg.

Review 54:Lovely location right opposite Moonstone Beach. There are a couple of restaurants on either side of the hotel. Otherwise you need to drive to Cambria township- about 5 minutes drive across the highway. The room was spacious and very comfortable with a fridge, coffee maker, microwave and dining table ( but no other self catering facilities or equipment).

Review 55:Would be nice if the rooms could include one or two sitting chairs. There was a small amount of mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, I would imagine it is difficult to keep moisture at bay in such a damp environment.

Review 56:Best Ocean View rooms on the beach! Great sized patio and balcony's. Good use of space inside and tons of storage, even in the bathrooms.

Review 57:Down side was a very low toilet and noisy people upstairs.

Review 58:The room and view was amazing! Very clean and great sitting and viewing patio to see the ocean and beautiful sunset!

Review 59:Noise from room above, partly due to hardwood and tile flooring. but it wasn't really noisy every day. Next time we would request a top floor room.

Review 60:Staff, location and spaciousness of room.

Review 61:NO air conditioning! It was really hot. The first two front desk people we encountered on our first two days were really rude! The third day was the third person and she was so kind she redeemed them all.

Review 62:The room was spacious. The hot tub was lovely and the facility was clean.

Review 63:Great staff, accomodating and informative. Rooms generous porportions. Visited during particularly warm weather. Room has no a/c, but that is understandable in this normally moderate climate.

Review 64:No AC with temps 10-15 degrees higher than normal in the high 80 in mid Oct.. It does not happen often, but they need to be better prepared. Ceiling fans? Only 1 of 3 windows can opens?

Review 65:overall good

Review 66:The eggs at breakfast were not free-range. This is lazy and unacceptable given the cost of free range eggs.

Review 67:Ocean view and log fire made our stay. Staff were also very friendly and helpful. Local town had loads of good restaurants.

Review 68:We are in the room 106, which was located on a ground floor with partial ocean view. We can't keep the windows open bc of the privacy. People can look into our room. The second floor create so much noise to us downstairs.

Review 69:The clean room in a brand new hotel located ocean front.

Review 70:Absolutely gorgeous hotel! As our room faced the seafront, we enjoyed sitting on the verandah, watching the sea life! Amazing! Room had super facilities, microwave, fridge and a fabulous gas fire! Could not find fault with anything! Didn't want to leave!

Review 71:The location was great. The hotel and staff were very nice. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again if I'm in California again.

Review 72:Just stayed one night. Quaint little town. Shops and restaurants were a short drive. Hotel was clean and comfortable and safe enough for our baby to crawl about it (once we blocked the fireplace with our suitcase!). Breakfast was standard, fruits, cereal, toast etc.

Review 73:The location was wonderful and convenient. Mary, at the front desk was exceptional--she was friendly, welcoming and always had suggestions for us and the others that were staying there. Loved the rooms with the tables and chairs and the fireplace--although it was much too hot to use that!

Review 74:Mary on Reception was incredibly friendly, helpful and informative and the other staff were pleasant too. The hotel is situated in the pretty little town of Cambria - perfect for our trip to Hearst Castle. It has a stunning location, right opposite the beach - fortunately we got there to see the beautiful sunset. Our room was very comfortable and spacious with high quality fittings. The night we arrived we had a wonderful dinner at the seafood restaurant next door. Breakfast at Moonstone Landing was delicious - far superior to a regular continental breakfast. I only wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 75:Nothing.

Review 76:I loved everything about this place: the location in front of the ocean and near several good restaurants, in a charming area of the beach; room was very clean, very comfortable and nicely decorated. They had a GREAT breakfast included in the price.

Review 77:The views across from the hotel are beautiful. We were lucky enough to see whales out to see from there. The rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed. Even a fireplace. The fog comes in quickly so you need to ensure you have warm clothes and layers. The town has a few restaurants but is driving distance I think. Breakfast is easy and convenient.

Review 78:Room not ready when we arrived so we went for a walk. Still not ready when we came back. We were happy to sit and chill out in the sun. The manageress was very apologetic and gave us $50 off our bill!

Review 79:It is a gorgeous, private place to stay. Nice restaurants close and down on Main Street. Large comfy rooms and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again

Review 80:See previous comments. This is a well run facility and the innkeepers are very professional and represent the industry very well. Wish there were more like them. Booking.com did a great job too!

Review 81:Absolutely loved this gem of a hotel. We had a room on the first floor corner overlooking the ocean. Stunning room, stunning view. Wish we could've stayed longer.

Review 82:The floors . Even walking bothered people on the first floor.they called us noisy people and called the front desk about our " noise " now we know we should never stay in the ground floor We'd like to come back to this place tho

Review 83:Location,surroundings,quietness ,breakfast ,

Review 84:If you are light sensitive, perhaps take a room on the side to the restaurant. The motel on the other side has plenty of lights on all night and some lights filter through the blind.

Review 85:The room is very comfortable and with very nice view of the ocean.

Review 86:It's a beautiful place to stay, across from the beach, offering a great hot tub, good breakfast and more. It's quite expensive, though, so we only chose it. because it was our anniversary.

Review 87:No air conditioning & room was hot even with the window open. Very difficult to sleep with the outside noise. Also front dest closes at 9:00 p m. The jacuzzi was rediculously tiny.

Review 88:Location was great. Liked the fireplace Iin the room & the continental breakfast was good

Review 89:The spotlight at night shining to our room from pebble stone hotel rightnext to us. But we closed the blinds and that took care of that.

Review 90:Room 205 was amazing, the full ocean view was spectacular. The patio wasvery clean and very peaceful. Fireplace at night time sets the perfectmood. We left the slidding door open and it was perfect. Waking up tothe sound of the ocean is the best feeling ever.

Review 91:The only downside was that the room was so hot and stuffy and there was no air con just a small fan to get us by. Not ideal in the middle of summer. There was also no breeze so leaving the window open proved pointless.

Review 92:Location is amazing. It's right on Moonstone Beach and you see and feel the fog roll in to Cambria as the evening comes. Big rooms and bathroom with a comfy bed.

Review 93:There was some remodeling of the room above us during the day that was a little annoyinging (cutting tile or other flooring and banging).

Review 94:Loved the cleanliness of the room and the room decor. Location was awesome.

Review 95:It is a great choice for those who wishes to find a quiet place to enjoy the beach. The town is small and quiet, and the hotel is only a cross away from the beach. And 4 or 5 rooms in the west end are direct facing the beach, with best views (However, the road is also near, which may cause the noise). The decoration is modern and elegant, in a relatively simple style. I like this manner. Breakfast is good, and the service is also good.

Review 96:Love this place!! 2nd time staying n it was NOT a disappointment! We are already planning our next visit. Staff very nice, rooms clean, bed soo comfy!!! Nice little ocean view!! And be sure to try the Sea Chest Oyster Bar next door! It is fantastic!!!

Review 97:The breakfast didn't have any hot freshly made items, like hot scrambled eggs or hot pancakes. More fresh fruit would have been nice.

Review 98:The closeness to the beach / ocean was excellent. The partial ocean view in our room was great. The fireplace in our room was cute & cozy. We liked that the floors were wood & tile. The large & comfortable size of the room was great. & the large spacious bathroom was great. Liked the closeness of the parking to the rooms. Inside room amenities & furnishings were great.

Review 99:Only suggestion - coffee carafes for guests. We enjoyed coffee in our balcony but didn't enjoy walking back and forth to the lounge for each cup

Review 100:The view, the friendly staff, great dinner recommendation! Comfortable bed, love the fireplace. The room was immaculate and gorgeous!

Review 101:This place has an amazing view and easy beach access. It is super clean, super nice, and super comfy. Gas fireplace, cable tv, free wifi, whirlpool tub.. what more can you want?

Review 102:We did not like the breakfast. Not enough heathy options. Scrambled eggs would have been great.

Review 103:The room was comfortable and clean. Enjoyed the fire place.

Review 104:This hotel is located in Cambria region by around mid-Pacific Coast Highway, which makes a very good stop point for anyone traveling by the coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco each way. Rooms are very spacious (I had a king size bed) and heater for colder days (summer is not too hot in this region and you don't need the heater). You also get an oven and fridge for your stuff. Staff was very helpful and allowed me drop the key for an early check out in the morning (be mindful they are not 24 working hours for the lobby). Free parking with plenty of space. Most of the rooms will get you part of the ocean line and you can consult the hotel for front rooms fees which I believe have a great view.

Review 105:Parking was a little tight, particularly the "compact" spaces. Angled parking would make it easier to back out of a parking space without bumping the building and scraping a bumper.

Review 106:Located across the street from Moonstone Beach, very quiet and clean. Large room with wood floors, gas fireplace, and a quiet refrigerator.

Review 107:Booking the room, I believe I was offered an option to pay extra for an ocean view; all their rooms have "partial ocean views". I was disappointed that I didn't get booked into the "Oceanfront" room when I paid the extra fee- the staff was super nice and moved us to the upgraded room. -- not sure the description of rooms translates from Booking .com to the motel

Review 108:Rooms were beautiful. Staff was extremely pleasant -- booking the Oceanfront room was worth the fee if you just plan to relax and spend time in room

Review 109:We liked everything.

Review 110:Large modern bright rooms - very clean and new. Fabulous view of the beach. Two king size beds in family rooms. Easy walk to restaurants. Felt very luxurious compared to similarly priced hotels. Cambria so peaceful as a stop off location driving down Hw1.

Review 111:Nothing really. Its just sometimes cant be booked , at a time we are available. And room rates are kind of stiff.

Review 112:the ambience, the staff, manager is so friendly and accommodating.(Mary) quiet and peaceful. been coming all the time for me and my husbands anniversary.

Review 113:Loved the location, small quiet town and hotel was on the ocean. Stayed at the beach all day and watched the sunset at night. A nice place to relax and reflect.

Review 114:The toiletries. Especially the soap.

Review 115:Awesome view. Had a great time. We will definitely be back again. Great place to wake up to and come back to after wine tasting!

Review 116:Price. Felt that the price was high for partial ocean view on weekday although I do realize that it is during summer months. Room felt closed in. Not as spacious as I anticipated.

Review 117:Location was superb. Staff was wonderful. Décor was lovely

Review 118:Rooms are nice but there is not much more.

Review 119:We were, unfortunately, only there for a night. The room and the view were great. Staff were absent or pre-occupied as it is basically a very nice motel in a great allocation.

Review 120:A great place to sleep after a day on the beach. The room was large, clean & comfy. The beach is literally 30 feet away. Cambria has a multitude of restaurants and is a pleasant 20 min stroll. A great breakfast to send us on our way.

Review 121:The only thing I did not like was only having one night there.

Review 122:Great location, stunning views, very helpful front desk. Located across a quiet, local use only street from the beach. We had a bottom room at the front of the property, and could see whales at play while we ate breakfast.

Review 123:There was no fitness facilities. The wifi drops off often and is quite slow.

Review 124:The beach is right across from the street, with a very nice boardwalk that goes for about a mile.

Review 125:Room was under a staircase. We could hear prow stomping up and down the stairs all night. No affordable food options close by. Luckily we had a car and went into town.

Review 126:Clean, well furnished modern room.
