Review 5:Decor is outdated, and it's definitely showing it's age.
Review 6:Great location, right next to the beach, although a little tricky to find by car without a GPS. The bar patio overlooks the ocean and is very nice.
Review 7:Only complaint was that the sauna cabins in the men's changing room by the indoor pool was not working, no light on and no heat. seems to be the case on our last 2 visits
Review 8:Just friendly helpful staff, clean rooms and well kept gardens/pool. Always enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
Review 9:Breakfast timetable. When they say it closes at 10 it means it. You better go earlier or you will find bad mood waiters and crumbs of the meals.
Review 10:Facilities like the indoor pool is a good idea for bad weather days. Location is awesome
Review 11:The wifi in the room didn't work, had to go on the patio. The light switch on the headboard was turned on accidentally during the night a couple of times. Not a good place for a switch so close to the pillows. The room and area looked very tired. Needs freshening up to match the newer building on the left side. The staff in the restaurant were very miserable - so smiles, interaction at all. Very disappointing.
Review 12:Position of hotel is excellent . Jessica at the pool area was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and she was very friendly. Lovely girl. The other girl was also very friendly and helpful. Victa the porter was excellent. He took us to our room, explained everything, set the air con, and when leaving, he was very informative about departure etc. The reception staff were also very pleasant and helpful. The pool are was excellent, plenty of shade and very clean.
Review 13:While I appreciate the feeling of 70's in accommodations, I prefer the breakfast to be in the 21 century. Maybe some local cheeses and local fruit will be good addition.
Review 14:A good example of 1970's hotel with a period feel to it. Location is excellent and staff is attentive and helpful.
Review 15:The standard of the food in the restaurant. Breakfast was fine (except coffee) but dinner left a lot to be desired.
Review 16:The resort and the view from our spacious balcony were excellent.
Review 17:wiFi good in the bedroom but become slow when weekend came and it was fully used by several costumers
Review 18:Excellent position over the bay and excellent staff everywhere in the hotel
Review 19:the old fashion decoration, the cold floor, lack of commodities very expensive comparing to the quality, poor cleaning, no energy flow, etc, etc terrible we had to move to another hotel as this was so bad in almost everything
Review 20:The kindness of staff & the view, pretty scenery
Review 21:*Mini bar was empty *Too small Tv *Noisy upper floor guests that arrived at 3Am!Maybe hotel can control this better. *Car Parking space NOT closed and opened for anyone 24 hours! *Needs for sport leisure facilities, like snooker and table football.Only has table tennis.
Review 22:*Panoramic views *Location *Private access to beach and *restaurants, bars and commercial area. *5*breakfast(except coffee..no expresso) *Restaurant *Bar *Internal pool *Friendly staff *Cleanliness
Review 23:Proximity to walking to everything. Great views of the ocean. Left our door open at night to hear the waves. Wonderful. Good breakfast. Older hotel rooms but were clean and tidy.
Review 24:Bit too classic. Needs a little refresh. Perfect location but needs beought into 2014, felt a little 1982.
Review 25:Amazing views from room balcony. pool & terrace area were amazing. The retro furniture.
Review 26:We were not able to connect to the internet with our netbooks, it only worked on the smartphones. However we were not able to work, so it was more a plus than minus:)During our stay (there were two of us in the number) the second shower cap did not appear, though I had used the one available. I think that it would appear if we asked.
Review 27:The staff was very-very helpful and nice, the money was taken only during check out, two splendid pools with beautiful gardens and stunning view of the ocean, the design of the hotel, the view from the room, wifi password given upon arrival to the hotel and not changing. We liked our stay very much!Thank you!!!
Review 28:Very marginal breakfast circa 1970's and an additional charge to usethe safe in the room at 25 euros per day or so. That has to be changedas it is rather common nowadays to have use of the safe free of chargeto guests.

Review 53:Evening meal - we were half board and the food was not of a 4 * standard.
Review 54:Views Size of room Balcony Pool Friendly staff Breakfast

Review 56:Poor choice of hot food at breakfast. 3 different lifts to get out at beach level
Review 57:Rooms, location, parking. Facilities.
Review 58:the bed could be more comfortable
Review 59:location , just opposite to the beach and 5 min walking to the centre
Review 60:The lifts were slow.
Review 61:The sea view, the balcony, the breakfast, the swimming pools, the sauna.

Review 67:Location, service, view, pools, good wifi, veranda.
Review 68:Beds are very hard.
Review 69:Garden and pool area is well laid out and maintained. There is a calm and relaxed atmosphere
Review 70:Wifi is very poor. The price is rarther high for the provided level of services.
Review 71:Comfortable hotel near the Ocean. Excellent view. Causy rooms.
Review 72:Wifi slow
Review 73:Views Location Breakfast Close to town
Review 74:breakfast
Review 75:almost all
Review 76:I didn;t like the room which was pretty dark and old .... they didn't give us the room with the double bed cause they were out of it....
Review 77:The location was perfect, city center, near to the beach actually on the beach, the balcony with the sea view. The staff was veryyyyy kindly and helpfull.
Review 78:The noise to close the room door was high. Pay attention: if the sea is waved, agitated, be carefully because the sound is very audible, but if we want to stay near the sea ...
Review 79:The view was excellent. The breakfast was honest, with a good compromise quality-price.
Review 80:It's a pitty that the excess road to the hotel is in such a bad condition (especially for a hotel like Hotel do Mar that over the last decades has assured many tourists/ economy to Sesimbra) deserves a better road... It's a pitty (but understandable, because of the time of construction of the hotel) that not all areas are accessible by wheelchair (small stairs to breakfast/ dinner area, bigger stairs for the direct beach acces, but the friendly staff was always willing to help).
Review 81:Friendly reception, fantastic location, good interior/exterior pools, good breakfast & I loved the "70's" feeling of the hotel!
Review 82:Some new additions don't go well with the 70s spirit of the hotel. The entrance lobby poorly renovated and decorated.
Review 83:The location, right in front of the sea, with direct access to the beach. The garden is a great place to relax! Just for its architecture, this hotel is worth staying.
Review 84:Nothing worth mentioning.
Review 85:We just stayed one night but it was something special. We booked a room with sea view and that was worth everything. The breakfast was nice and the location is very good considering that is very close to the beach (walking distance) and has plenty of good restaurants around.
Review 86:Regarding being a 4* hotel the inner decoriation is a bit poor and dated (I felt a bit like in my home) and the wooden windows and doors can really get hot. Another downside is that for me that was injuried was very difficult to reach the main street because the main lift only goes until the 2nd floor. These minor things are nothing big but left me with mixed feelings about repeat my experience again. If it was cheaper it would not be a problem, but you expect a bit more in this range of prices.
Review 87:The staff, comfort of the room, cleanliness, and overall appreciation is Good. However...
Review 88:The breakfast doesn't quite suit a 4* hotel and it could be improved with freshly squeezed juice, local products (like cheese, jams), home-made cakes, etc.
Review 89:The location, the staff
Review 90:Although the outdoor pool does not have people, because it was winter, I think it would be wise to install some protection on the floor of the pool to ensure the safety of people who enjoy the outdoor pool, since it is the "terrace "the 5th floor of the hotel.
Review 91:I like the location, the personal was very attentive the breakfast had lots of variety, the location food is very good. I suggest this hotel for a rest near the beach.
Review 92:Our rental car was broken into in a parking lot by one of the area walks. Tainted our Portugal experience but hotel staff were extremely helpful
Review 93:very helpful staff. Excellent breakfast
Review 94:No internet in the room, TV went frequently blank after 21h00, flies everywhere, staff kept a "professional distance" even whilst there were hardly guests in the house.
Review 95:Views are mind boggling, spacy room, big private terrace, great breakfast
Review 96:the changing/shower combination near pool is cramped, the indoorpool was very large but the water was cold.Room decoration is a strange mixture and a bit tired, and, by Portughese standards, the room we had was small and the bathroom did not had fittings for keeping our staff - but this was minor
Review 97:sea view and nice balcony, very large good beds, breakfast was quite good and again withsea view, sauna and indoor/outdoor pool facilities and location ofhotel, quiet but very close to restaurants and village center.
Review 98:The rooms are old and the cushion is unconfortable.
Review 99:Wonderful view over the ocean from the balcony. Staff was friendly. Reasonable size fridge in the room.
Review 100:It is quite an old hotel so has a "old" feeling to it in terms of decor and equipment For a 4 Star hotel, it is quite expensive considering what it really offers. It would be more appriate to be 3 Stars. But then it is very expensive as a 3 Star. It should spend some money in modernising itself to justify the 4 starts and the rate it charges and while they are at it they should try to work out a way to be more accessible to wheelchairs etc. As it is, it is extremely complicated for someone in a wheelchair or parents pusing baby chairs.
Review 101:Great location and beatiful view Nice pool
Review 102:Very ourdated, we felt like in mid 80's :) Quite big hotel could be listed as a museum. Good for one night but no longer
Review 103:Near the beach, good price
Review 104:Although I understand it was peak season in the summer, the breakfast did feel sort of like a stampeed and replenishment was not always ensured on time.
Review 105:View, location, hospitality and welcoming of all staff. Lovely place to spend a relaxing break.
Review 106:Our room was small and very outdated/run down. The photos on the site are a lot better than reality. The hall ways are musty and stale.
Review 107:Good location with views over the ocean, close to restaurants. Fantastic bar area!
Review 108:The rooms are very noisy, ask for a quiet room when you book here.
Review 109:The location and the swimming pool is good. Nice area around the pool. Breakfast is also good.
Review 110:It was pricey for what we got, as was any food outwith the deal.
Review 111:The pools, beds were very comfortable, staff very helpful, right on the beach, table tennis was fun but net needs replacing! First Aid kit also excellent - we needed this
Review 112:Nothing really
Review 113:Very friendly reception staff....our room was lovely and especially nice to look out on the beautiful pool and grounds as well as the beach. Nice to be able to walk to restaurants.
Review 114:Buffet breakfast a bit basic for a 4 star. This is the first place inthe country where I've seen the orange juice served as squash andnot fresh.reception staff a little cold (unlike all other staff who were very smiley and would always say hello).
Review 115:This place is straight out of the 60's, and still in immaculatecondition! We really enjoyed our stay here - our massive sea viewbalcony and sunbathing in the gardens overlooking the sea, beforedipping into the cool outdoor swimming pool, were real highlights.
Review 116:The guest rooms need a make-over; currently they're very 1970s and, while everything works fine, the look is a little dated.
Review 117:The location, right on the beachfront, offers great sea views. The public areas are comfortable, with nice pools and grounds. The beds are comfortable.
Review 118:bed very old, break fast too poor..not naturel juices;not options..very very poor to the hotel qualificated to 4*..internet connexion very long;or doesn't work out..rooms decoration very old....
Review 119:plage,view of the beach...
Review 120:The bed is not so comfortable but acceptable and they do not have a water boiler.
Review 121:The location is so amazing. The view of the beach and the surroundings is just incredible.
Review 122:Just had problem with shower but informed desk and implied they would sort it. Only stayed one night but super stop over .
Review 123:Superb location. Very comfortable room- splendid views from large balcony .
Review 124:Breakfast could be a little bit improved, our bed wasn't the best in the world.
Review 125:The proximity to the beach, the amazing view of the sea from our room terrace, the outside swimming pool. The whole hotel has excellent "vibes", the staff is friendly and nearby there are some amazing fish restaurants. Just walking around the hotel and the bar is relaxing.
Review 126:Bad exit to the beach, many sea birds on the beach, unfinished constraction next the hotel, old interior from 70s years, old furniture, poor breakfast :(
Review 127:Sea view.
Review 128:Charged for dinner from another guest - had to make correction atcheck out.Recommendations given to us for dinner included a restaurant that was not open.
Review 129:Great location.
Review 130:the hotel is a labyrinth with staircases and elevators all over the place; really hard to find your way. Some of the staircases are steep and the steps not wide enough. The rooms are basic and need renovation. There are no means of obtaining a drink at the swimming pool; no drinks are served in this area, so you have to go to some sort of a canteen and have to put up with plastic cups in case you want to take them back to the swimming pool. In the evening, the hotel offers no entertainment other than the occasional electric organ, played by a person who did not stay up to date with the latest in music. The bar area was absolutely boring. The surroundings of the hotel look poor; in fact most of the village looked like a building site - it may look nice in a few years' time when they have finished renovating. The beach was basic as well, no hotel beach, all public, and therefore no sunbeds. Sesimbra has little to offer in terms of nightlife and dining and wining.
Review 131:good swimming pool; quality-price of meals was good
Review 132:Indoor pool, gym and sauna can be expanded into a full spa facility.
Review 133:Beautifully designed with the original futures, including furniture and art objects preserved.
Review 134:Breakfast a little uninspiring. Third bed in room proved inadequate and uncomfortable for 17year old.
Review 135:Brilliant location and superb views over the bay at Sesimbra.
Review 136:This hotel is 50 years old and had no refurbishing so far. Rooms arequite small, noise insulation is unbearable. There is no amenities fordisables. In fact, disabled people have no chance to stay in this hotelas nothing is prepared for them (no parking lot, stairways withoutramps, etc). Definitely this is not a 4-star hotel.
Review 137:Location. Friendly staff.
Review 138:The hotel is designed to facilitate able-bodied persons only & does not have ramp facilities for wheel-chair users and/or young children in buggies/prams. There are lots of steps & the hotel cannot be accessed from the upper & lower street levels without using steps. Breakfast was only fair.
Review 139:Location & Vies
Review 140:Breakfast could have been a bit more varied, with more fruits etc.
Review 141:Perfect, quiet location in Sesimbra, cool outdoor pool, nice room with a sea view, large balcony, suberb deck bar next to palm trees, friendly staff, fridge in the room.
Review 142:The entrance from the beach could be easier especially if one is stayingon the top floors. The layout of the hotel, split between east and westwings, can make getting back to one's room, a cumbersome journey. In theend, we used the main entrance all of the time. It is definitely notsuitable for couples with small children as there are no railings aroundthe pool garden, and toddlers could easily slip through the "railing" oneach room's sun terrace.
Review 143:Great views from each floor and room. Rooms cleaned daily with freshtowels. Breakfast was good without being "exciting", I.E. functional.Highlight is the garden/pool facility which has both sun-exposed spotsand shaded areas. The outdoor pool is great for "cooling down" while theindoor pool is good for "serious" swimming workouts. Towels are providedfor sunbathing.
Review 144:Cozy vintage seventies' architecture and style; professional staff and service, amazing location in front of the beach. Perfect for a Weekend holiday and to discover Sesimbra.
The Fine Print
