Reviews for Castle Inn
Review 1:It was expensive for an average hotel as there wasn't much too see at this location. It was an overnight stay so not too worried about it.
Review 2:The staff were nice and helpful. The breakfast was pretty good too.
Review 3:We were placed in a disabled accessible room although we are not disabled. The bathroom was not very convenient. No place to hang a towel near the shower. Inadequate counter space.
Review 4:Location
Review 5:Expensive but I guess you pay for location. Hotel is more motel like and overall a bit dated and basic.
Review 6:Location, location. Just across the beach with actual best entry. Almost next to restaurant.
Review 7:WAY overpriced for what it offered, especially in comparison to other places we have stayed there. Booking.com description a little misleading.
Review 8:Location, lawn and A.M. breakfast staff. For the # of people it was quiet.
Review 9:Walls were very thin. Could hear people talking upstairs and next door. Very small shower. Hot water ran out by 8:00.
Review 10:Great location, clean, comfortable beds.
Review 11:The breakfast room was far too small. No way to control the heat.
Review 12:Desk staff very pleasant and helpful with a computer issue so I was able to connect to the Wi-Fi.The room was exceptionally clean. Pretty good complimentary breakfast.
Review 13:Room was musty with dated furniture and worn and stained carpet. Thin walls...could hear snoring from the adjacent room.
Review 14:Great location across the highway from the beach.
Review 15:The room smelled and the shower leaked. Even after we opened the door and the windows, the room still smelled. We went out to dinner and left the windows open while we were gone. When we came back to the room, the odor wasn't quite as bad, but the room still smelled.
Review 16:The room was nicely painted and decorated. The location was amazing with unobstructed ocean view.
Review 17:Our windows in room #15 did not lock nor did the heater work. I called the front desk, which was sent to another hotel Moonstone Cottages and spoke to a female and asked her if she had any types of locks or maybe sticks to put in the window jam to keep from opening. She said no. The phone was handed to Robert and he too told me that they didn't have any sticks. I asked to him to put us in another room. He chuckled and stated "how is that supposed to help you?" I replied "I don't feel safe in this room and the windows should then be able to lock in another room". He then replied "all our rooms are full". I then asked for my money back since I do not feel safe with unlockable windows plus the screen was hanging off. Robert did a loud sigh and stated "meet me in the lobby in 15 minutes". Robert came to my room and saw that the window did not lock, he gave my husband a key to another room #4, then took it back stating "you have double beds, I'll be back". He came back with another key for room #14. At this point, me, my husband and daughter were all outside the hotel room with our luggage after 1030 PM, Robert asked for our keys. I had trouble finding my key and noticed he was more frustrated. I asked him "are you okay? You seemed pissed?" He did not reply, but gave me a smirk and continued chewing on a toothpick of some sort. Robert demeanor and lack of professionalism was uncalled for. He lied to us that no other room were available, when he tried to set us up in room #4 then move to # 14. We paid for our services which were not delivered! He made it appear that WE were at fault for the bathroom and front windows not locking or the screen window hanging off or the heater not working properly. Robert stated that his job was "night auditor"...well guess what? He lacks doing that job also!
Review 18:The checking in and checking out personnel were very helpful.
Review 19:The staff was very friendly. We had a room looking on to the ocean. There was nice access to the beach. It was clean and comfortable. This was our first trip to see Hearst Castle and this was a great location.
Review 20:Heater was noisy. Towel bar came off wall in bathroom.
Review 21:Very nice and accommodating receptionist (she opened the breakfast room so I could use the microwave.) The hotel is a bit dated but has been kept up. The room was pleasant enough and the bed extremely comfortable. I enjoyed a late night hot tub with ocean waves crashing just across the street.
Review 22:Breakfast room is small and food is average at best.
Review 23:Location was wonderful--we liked the fact that we could cross the street to a path along the ocean.
Review 24:Given a downstairs room and people above were noisily walking around several times during night. Would ask for an upstairs room if we stay again. Need more towel racks/hooks in the bathroom.
Review 25:Location, nice breakfast choices, friendliness of staff. There were beautiful sunsets and several chairs to sit for viewing.
Review 26:noting
Review 27:Location--the beautiful moonstone shore right in front of this inn presented an amazing sunrise scene for us. And there are plenty of sealions, sea elephants along the sea shore in early morning. they are gone by 8am. We were lucky to get there early.
Review 28:Comfortable firm bed and nice sheets on the bed. Very clean, bright and cheery room. Nice size room. Excellent location that is right across from the beach boardwalk trail. Really friendly staff. Very good value.
Review 29:Nice simple room. Directly across from the easily accessible coast line. Perfect for watching the sunset. Breakfast had very practical foods for travelling folks.
Review 30:Room was slightly musty, which gave me some allergy/asthma symptoms. My wife and daughter had no problems, though.
Review 31:Fantastic location, just across the street from a wooden walkway that runs along the ocean for at least a mile. Comfortable beds.
Review 32:Just 10 min drive south of Hearst Castle, clean and recently renovated, and the free breakfast was surprisingly good (remembering it's free), across road from beach, quiet.
Review 33:Could do with a lick of paint and a new carpet in hallway
Review 34:Fabulous views and direct access to beach. Seals on rocks and nice bar and grill virtually next door
Review 35:We love the location, it was our second visit. Staff is very friendly and helpful, the breakfast is basic but helps to get you going in the morning. Easy walk to a restaurant, if you do not want to drive into town.
Review 36:No heater in the room. Room became very cold during the night making it hard to sleep.
Review 37:Nice and clean room. Views of the beach right across the street. Standard fulfilling reakfast
Review 38:Little warm, no a/c. But even that wasn't bad.. Weather cooled
Review 39:The location is perfect, oceanfront. Boardwalk across from Castle Inn was a great walk by the ocean. The room was basic and clean. The breakfast was just right-bagels and oatmeal, plus more! Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 40:Upstairs with no elevator made it difficult for my mom and to carry up luggage. Also the handle on the faucet in my mom's room (#10) came off.
Review 41:Location was great!
Review 42:Rooms were a little noisy, the bathroom fan did not work which resulted in mold in the bathroom. I let the staff know so it could be addressed.
Review 43:Location, Staff could not have been better
Review 44:The restaurant and bar nearby this motel are closed too early and we have nothing to eat when we arrived at 10pm.
Review 45:The location is perfect, facing the sea. The room is clean and nice.
Review 46:Based on other hotels we stayed in, we found this quite expensive for what it was, thats my only down point.
Review 47:The best thing about this place is the location it's beautiful in the evening and early morning and just a few steps away is a lovely beachfront walk path. Great place for a overnight stop off on route 1. Also the bed was extremely comfy and the breakfast was very nice.
Review 48:The location was amazing! We loved being able to walk along the beach and still be close to the hotel. We also absolutely enjoyed the complimentary breakfast in the morning. It was nice to not have to worry about one meal.
Review 49:Great place to stay. Good location. Enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi. Great views of the sunset from the pool area. TV didn't work in the room but that's OK. Breakfast had good variety. Walking path along the beach was pretty. Would come back or recommend to others.
Review 50:Complete lack of sound insulation between walls so very noisy. Inadequate breakfast room. Expensive for what you get.
Review 51:Excellent location overlooking Moonstone Beach. Clean, with good wifi.
Review 52:Nothing!!
Review 53:The room and beds were very comfortable and for my needs the location was perfect. Being right at the beach snd boardwalk was also wonderful.
Review 54:Great location There is a boardwalk accross the top of the beach that will take you virtually into town (20 mins). Comfortable room. Chairs on the lawn overlooking the beach - great sunsets The town has a number of loveley small shops Friendly staff
Review 55:No negatives
Review 56:Fab location, very comfy beds. Good breakfast.walked along the board walk across the road, saw lots of different birds. Most rooms would have a sea view. Ate dinner at Moonstone grill, great steak and scampi.
Review 57:The location right on the coastline, with an excellent walking track to view sunset. Although a but out of the main town, there was a couple of good choices for dining on the one night we stayed.
Review 58:The exorbitant price of food and drink at the hostelry 200 yards away!! We entered, read the menu and left!!
Review 59:The location of the hotel (views!!), easy to find the hotel, the friendliness and efficiency of the staff and the peace and quiet!!
Review 60:Very clean with free wifi. Location easy to find, steps from a restaurant, can order in take away. Great view of ocean from room and sunset. Just of Highway 1. No issues to complain about
Review 61:The breakfast room is small and selection minimal - but ok. If you happy with something quick and simple it's fine. There is not enough seating for everyone so you may need to take back to your room.
Review 62:The location is great. the room was clean and comfortable. Front desk friendly and helpful.
Review 63:I visited there in July. The weather is quite cold and windy.
Review 64:You must walk to the seaside and view the sunset. The ocean view is speculator. Room and breakfast are nice.
Review 65:Be warned that the room didn't have air conditioning and when we stayed it was really hot and stuffy. Other than that it was an OK hotel.
Review 66:The location by the coast.
Review 67:one particular set of guests had a cuss fight in parking area over lost cat couldn't get wi fi to work
Review 68:location was excellent staff was friendly and considerate
Review 69:no bad experience.
Review 70:I loved the location and the quaintness of the place. The red airendondack chairs are the best! sat out there with my wine and listened to the ocean. only steps away fro them the beach. a great place to stay.
Review 71:Very small room & tiny bathroom w/dirty floor. Free breakfast is a joke! If not for the location, this room would rent for about $50/night.
Review 72:Great location across the street from the beach and walking pathways. Good off-street parking near our room. Just a couple of doors away from a decent restaurant.
Review 73:The location is superb for it is right on the sea. There is a board walk that stretches for a good mile right in front of the property where one can whale and seal watch and enjoy magnificent sunsets. Natural beauty abounds. The Inn is off the main highway on a side road with little traffic so it is quiet. The perfect place to get-away from it all.
Review 74:Bathroom is a little small, but sufficient.
Review 75:Nice clean rooms, able to see the beach from the window, decent continental breakfast (yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, muffins, bagels, OJ, milk, coffee), amazing location on the beach.
Review 76:No hot water. We ran the water that said "hot" for 6 minutes, nothing, still cold. Place seemed pricey for what you got, breakfast was sad.
Review 77:It was quite, beds were heaven
Review 78:Refrigerator was awkward to use but we managed.
Review 79:Beautiful flowers, view of ocean, boardwalk across the street, nice pool, we'll maintained property, walk to restaurants , friendly gardener woman and helpful also. A lovely place inside and out. moonstone beach was fun!
Review 80:The windows and the door were on the same side with plenty of foot traffic. This 'Inn' really is a motel at $220/ night. The promised ocean view was illusory because one needs to keep the curtains drawn for privacy.
Review 81:The oatmeal was wonderful.
Review 82:Upstairs noise came through ceiling like they were in our room! Next door as well. Poor noise insulation between rooms.
Review 83:Location, cleanliness - well maintained!
Review 84:A charming inn close to the water in lovely . Cambria The room was lovely, clean and comfortable. We ordered a room with a view which is really unnecessary as you can sit outside on deck chairs and enjoy the wonderful view. The breakfast has a limited selection but allows you to start your day on a full stomach.
Review 85:Had ants and wasplike things flying around room during the night - one of them stung me which freaked out my children - no one got much sleep that night!
Review 86:Fantastic location and breakfast was lovely.
Review 87:Room rate is not consistent with what is offered at the motel. Furniture dates back to the 70's ,at least. Breakfast choices are basic and don't vary from day to day. Breakfast room cramped and leads to crowding and inconvenience for guests
Review 88:Accommodation conveniently located to beach and boardwalk. Grounds family friendly.
Review 89:Breakfast adequate but could have a little more choice. Upstairs rooms better for view but noise from children running along the balcony.
Review 90:Hot tub, location, views, cleanliness, quick and straightforward check in and out, no problems at all. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Review 91:No towls for the pool/spa avail. Our room shook when people walked by on second floor. Very loud late arriving guests woke us up after 10pm
Review 92:Location to the water was good Location to restaurants was good
Review 93:Good location for overnight stay, nice little town with plenty of shops and eating places. Only stayed overnight to break up our journey so didn't have time to use pool or go on beach.
Review 94:The view was very nice . The bed was very comfortable. Liked that it was close walking distance to bar and grill restaurant .furniture a little outdated.
Review 95:We had to leave way to soon!
Review 96:The Inn was Relaxing and comfortable. Walking distance to ocean and food. Loved the red adirandak chairs they were inviting to sit in and watch people & to take in the amazing view!
Review 97:Was unable to connect with wifi and the cell coverage is terrible in the area
Review 98:Almost Every room has a view of the ocean and there are harbor seals right across the street. This is a great value in a great location. We stayed 4 nights and added an additional because it's 30 degrees cooler than Paso and only 25 minutes away
Review 99:Nothing really, reception not overly friendly but efficient so fine
Review 100:Nice clean rooms, good breakfast with lots of options, nice seafront location , amazing beds
Review 101:There were 7 of us and the breakfast room was way too small. We filled it up and of course lots of travelers want to get an early start so it was chaotic and crowded - most people took their items back to their room
Review 102:We loved the location and seeing the beach from the property. Wonderful restaurant close by. Wish we could have spent more time there. Maybe next time :)
Review 103:The walls were quite thin and we could hear people talking in the next room.
Review 104:The location was a good stop off while travelling down the big Sur. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 105:No AC or fan to drown out noisy neighbors upstairs. Breakfast could be improved with some fresh fruit and warm eggs.
Review 106:Excellent mattress, pleasant decor, mini-fridge worked great, windows on both sides let a lovely coastal breeze through the room. The grounds are nice, with picnic tables, grills and Adirondack chairs for lounging. Lovely flowers around the entrance. The location is fantastic with a boardwalk entrance directly across from the driveway.
Review 107:No counter space in the bathroom.
Review 108:The location was gorgeous and the grounds were well maintained. The in-room coffee was the best I've ever had and the room was good size.
Review 109:Breakfast was so-so, but who cares? For the price and location, we didn't deserve a complimentary breakfast anyway. I mean, don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad at all, but it definitely wasn't an eggs benedict feast made with love by granny.
Review 110:Everything is very clean and updated. Awesome view, friendly staff, well-kept grounds. Stay here, save a wad of money, and feel like a king, all at the same time!
Review 111:For some reason I didnt have hot water in the morning, but could've been because of all the other travelers staying there. Other than that everything was great.
Review 112:Loved that it was literally across the street from beach access. Hotel was veey clean and well taken care of and staff was very friendly.
Review 113:The room was nice and big, very clean with lots of facilities (TV, coffee making, hairdryer). Plenty of room for parking and the location is absolutely unbeatable - the sea was literally across the road.
Review 114:The wifi barely worked.
Review 115:The room was nice and clean. The location is great, we didn't know much about it as we just needed a place to sleep in a middle point of our trip but it turned out pretty amazing. There's a black sand beach and a viewpoint where you can see wild seals less than 5m walk.
Review 116:Bathroom and shower were extremely small. Nowhere to set your toiletries.
Review 117:Bed was very comfortable, room clean, staff very pleasant. Ocean across the street. Quiet.
Review 118:No bathroom counter. I have a certain amount of maintenance and kept dropping things. No space for curling iron.
Review 119:Location absolute best. View was spectacular. Bed very comfy. Want to vome back again next year.
Review 120:The location is awesome. The room was very nice for the price. Loved the fireplace. Was pleasantly surprised by the breakfast provided. If able, get room #34.
Review 121:Breakfast good but breakfast room too small. Hot tub jets should be stronger.
Review 122:Being directly across street from entrance to beach walk. Friendly, efficient staff. Nicely renovated rooms with excellent bed! Well maintained property, great lawn chairs.
Review 123:#2 is farthest from the water heaters, let the shower run a few minutes. Not a big issue.
Review 124:Although we arrived before checkin we were given our room. #2 Upstairs has an ocean view and was very comfortable for our two night stay.
Review 125:It had no microwave. It was a little noisy at times.
Review 126:I enjoyed the ocean view, the continental breakfast, and the staff. The price was good for a Sunday nite.
Review 127:very accomadating, helpful at front desk, loved walking around the beach, one mile boardwalk, and down the street. many inn options on this street and i liked sitting in the chairs outside in the eve. very nice cont breakfast.
Review 128:we liked the fact that you were so close to the ocean and the pathway for morning and evening walks. also the location was very close to downtown Cambria.
Review 129:The walls are a little thin if you have noisy neighbors biut would stay again if we get the chance to pass this way again.
Review 130:The staff was very friendly, the view was great. Really enjoyed being able to walk the boardwalk along the beach. Wish our stay was for more than one night.
