Review 1：Not a negative remark but a warning. Google maps position this hotel in the airport. It is nót the case, and it is even not a walking distance. The hotel offers a free transfer, take it.

Review 2：It is a noble 5-star aristocratic hotel. Really exclusive service. Cosy, friendly atmosphere. WiFi is perfect. Do not hesitate to try the ocean pool in January, it is warmer than expected.

Review 18：Lovely informal small hotel, only 16 rooms with enormous swimming pools. I could swim in the morning for an hour with no one else around! The restaurant was a complete surprise. Wonderful food especially the best prawns in Portugal. I understands it is mentioned in the Michelin guide.

Review 24：It is not something that is a problem, maybe just like an opinion from our side ....we loved the marine style in which is decorated the hotel, but may be the rooms need a little update, I mean for example the curtains. They must be just a little bit better to fit the 5 star hotel.

Review 25：This is the perfect hotel to stay if you want to explore the island. The location is next to the airport(but this doesn't make it noisy) and the main road. Definitely need a car ( if it is possible take a small car with a powerful engine , the best will be if it is with automatic transmission, cos most of the roads are really steep and narrow). The room is large and bright with ocean view (all of the rooms are) and a terrace. The restaurant is big and bright full of light also looking to the ocean, with nice food. We didn't try the pools cos the weather wasn't good enough , but the big one that is on the rock looks perfect for relaxing. The staff is friendly and helpful with personal attention to their guests. They give you all the necessary information you need for exploring the island. We would stay there again when in Madeira.

Review 26：Although close to the airport it is a 15 min walk to any other restaurants or bars in Santa cruz, walking close to the main road, which was fine for us but may be something to think about if mobility is a problem or if you have young children. But the best restaurant is in the hotel itself anyway!

The hotel is right next to the airport and so very easy to get straight onto the main road to explore the island. Very friendly and helpful staff. Best restaurant we found in Madeira. Great pools. Space for car parking for our rented car.

Review 29：Everything!! Staff were very helpful, they went the extra step to help us have a very enjoyable stay. Sorted a hire car for us and even arranged a bottle of champagne to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Rooms are large and comfy, very clean and views are amazing.

Quiet atmosphere, clean room, good kitchen and an unforgettable view of the sea. The airport is just a few minutes and the hotel provides a free transfer. Aircraft noise is negligible. Two pools are at the sea under a rock. Excelent wifi.

Review 37：This visit was at the most quiet time of the year (February) so this review must be taken in that context. The welcome was very good with the manager meeting us personally at the airport, checking us in speedily to a room upgrade and taking time to outline the facilities. A massive fruit bowl had been placed in the room along with ample supply of bottled water (replenished daily). The room was very quiet and, as all rooms, it had a splendid sea view. Both breakfast (personal service - not a buffet) and dinner (a la carte - no menus) in the restaurant were a delight and the service was excellent at this time. From nearby Sta Cruz (15 minutes walk) it was an easy bus trip to Funchal, but for island exploration a car is needed from this location.

Review 38：Location is great - amazingly quiet but so close to the airport. Very secluded, wonderful Sea Views. Nice small hotel with warm friendly staff but not intrusive. Restaurant lovely, food nice. Any requirements the staff only too ready to assist to be sure everything runs smoothly. A lovely stay and an amazing Island to explore. Review 39：The frendliness of the staff. The best dinner we had in Madeira. Best "Foie gras" ever. First class treatment by excellent staff. Super breakfast. Eggs made by the chef at your table. If back to Madeira, this will be our first choice. A must to have a car if you plan to do some sightseeing.

Review 45：Albatroz is the place where you wake up right above the ocean, enjoy excellent breakfast, then decide if you want spend the day on a levada walk, play golf, do some city sightseeing (all within easy reach - by car) - or just to enjoy a lazy day at the sea / one of the swimming pools. Then you close the day in the hotel restaurant (the best food and service from all the places that we visited on the island). We have tried all of this and it was one of the best vacations ever. There is an internet facility with printer and a library on the first floor, but no local information (flyers, tourist books...) is provided in the rooms or in other common areas.

Review 96：The view from the rooms is stunning, and although the hotel is really close to the airport, it's quiet. Rooms are really big and the level of cleanliness is excellent. The restaurant serves excellent local and international dishes. The personnel was always extremely helpful. Review 98：This hotel is a dream, excellent location on a clifftop with breathtaking views and exceptional service. Though it is located very close to the airport and the motorway it`s very quiet and peaceful there. It takes just a few minutes to get here from the airport and it`s a 10 minute drive to Funchal. This tiny hotel offers you everything you can imagine and even more. There is direct access to the ocean, and 3 swimming pools, 2 of which are with seawater. You can enjoy splendid views of the ocean and deserted islands in clear weather not only from your room, but also from the restaurant, lobby and swimming pools. The floor to ceiling windows are almost everywhere in the hotel, so there is nothing between you and the charming beauty of the island whatever you do. The staff is extremely friendly and does everything to make your stay unforgettable. A complimentary basket of ripe exotic fruits and mineral water was a pleasant surprise, especially if you arrive late at night. The Mediterranean style room is very spacious, includes a sofa with a little table and a big dining table. Every room has a big balcony. There is also a variety of glasses for different beverages and tea/coffee facilities. To cut it short there is absolutely everything you may need. It`s one of the places that stay in your heart. I keep recalling it every day and hope will come back again for a longer stay.

Review 101：Leaving..... The location demands a hire car unless you want to sit by the pool and not visit some of the Island's dramatic scenery. The local village of Santa Cruz looks a bit sad at present having itself sustained storm damage but will presumably look happier in the Summer - nearby Machico is the better bet for restaurants etc.

Review 102：Everything - the location virtually adjacent to the airport was ideal - minimal noise from the airport itself and very central for journeys West into Funchal (10 minutes) or North into the mountains and North coast/Santana. Immaculate well appointed Hotel, superb friendly staff and a great unhurried and informal atmosphere. Restaurant is excellent as are other facilities. Work continues on the storm-damaged larger sea pool but during our stay the stairway was rebuilt and within the next month or so it should be back in action. Believe the other reviews - this is an outstanding hotel and we will be returning asap.

Review 103：No buffet breakfast, being served ends up in spending way more time than you wish, also is not efficient as you get more of the things you're not going to eat and less of those you would. The location, while beautiful, is a 25min drive (or 35EUR taxi ride) from Funchal, and the nearby town, Santa Cruz, offers absolutely nothing (including practically only bad restaurants) and is a 20 min walk on the side of a freeway. I had a massage in the spa and while the masseuse was skilled and competent, the room was too cold to fully enjoy it. The maritime design might not be to everyone's taste, especially in the room furniture.

Review 104：This hotel is extremely well managed, the staff is exceptional, from the point of view of customer service is one of the best hotels i've been. This is shown by many little attentions like the fruit basket on arrival, the room being cleaned while having breakfast so you won't ever be disturbed, the complimentary bottle of portuguese champagne i found in my room for my birthday. Also, the park, sea pools and premises are fantastic and the sea view from each room is simply breath-taking. Plenty of free parking, and WIFI works flawlessly. We tried the restaurant a la carte a couple of times and it is without a doubt the best restaurant in the area.

Review 105：It's a bit tricky to reach. If one is traveling towards Funchal on the expressway that passes the airport, one may have to exit in Santa Cruz in order to return since access to the hotel is only from the eastbound lanes.

Review 106：The staff jumped up to greet us and were helpful at every instant, including offering to prepare food for our early morning departure. Rooms were large and well-laid out. Another plus is that the room opened up onto an unobstructed view of the ocean so it was possible to be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. (As others have commented, there is no sound whatsoever from the airport which nearly adjoins the property.) Oh, and the fruit basket was generous with a drop-dead delicious assortment.

Review 114：We had a wonderful time and the staff in this hotel are absolutely fantastic. They could not have been more helpful. We have never stayed in a place where we felt so welcome. The rooms were nice and big and the bed comfortable and huge. There was a generous fruit basket with all kinds of local fruit with a welcome card from the director. A small bottle of water was on the bedside table and was replaced whenever empty, and a nice touch as well was that flowers were put in the room during the stay. The food in the restaurant was very good as well we ended up eating there every night. We can only say positive things about the Albatroz and will certainly return there if we go back to Madeira. Highly recommend it.
