Reviews for Fogcatcher Inn
Review 1:The only bummer was the powdered eggs at the breakfast bar.
Review 2:Great location. Very sweet staff. Comfy room, clean and modern. Great bed. Loved the pool area and hot tub. A decent surf wave out front added bonus.
Review 3:The breakfast was disappointing. No healthy options, wasn't that tasty.
Review 4:Location right on the beach with running/walking path accessible. Close to the downtown restaurants/shops.
Review 5:Price value. Breakfast poor & low environment friendly. All throw away plates & plastic cups! Options were very limited. For this rate we expected a better breakfast & better awareness to create a sustainable stay.
Review 6:Location. Room was lovely and comfortable. Loved the fireplace.
Review 7:Carpet in rooms is dated, between a busy highway and the beach road.
Review 8:Location, Location, Location - beautiful locale across from street from the Cambria Beach. Great spot for the sunset or a morning run.
Review 9:No dislikes!
Review 10:It was clean and beautiful, the owner was so very nice and thoughtful in everyway. I will definitely recommend to my children and friends.
Review 11:Our room backed up to Highway 1 and was very noisy as a result. Also our "garden view" room had no view of anything other than a blank wall next door; there was no garden and no view. Because of the road noise, we had to close the windows at night, but this meant that the room was too warm for good sleep; the room had no air conditioning. When we pay this much for a motel room, we expect the room to be a place where we will want to hang out at least some of the time, but we didn't want to hang out in the room at all because of the constant road noise and lack of anything pleasant to look at.
Review 12:The only reason to stay here is the great location. It is right across the street from Moonstone Beach.
Review 13:A bit over priced - for close to $300 a night maybe s nightly local wine and cheese reception would be nice - maybe free bike rentals or free wine tasting etc. but still more than satisfying
Review 14:Location - helpfulness of staff - breakfast - room and furnishings
Review 15:My reservation through booking.com did not make it through to their system but the staff was kind enough to refer to their sister property and as a kind gesture, they compensated us with a bottle of wine - how delightful!
Review 16:Wifi reception was horrible.
Review 17:The location was superb! Right across the street from the beach & Boardwalk. Breakfast was excellent! Nicely furnished rooms--very comfy
Review 18:We loved the accessibility of the beach and the main shopping in town. The decor and arrangement of the room made for a more comfortable feeling than an average hotel room.
Review 19:No AC - during the day, we had to open the door & windows to get some air circulation. We found a little fan in the closet & used it during the night. WiFi has got to be the worst of all places we've stayed. Most places WiFi was just slow but pages eventually load. Here (even though signal strength was good), 98% of the time, you couldn't even load a page/check emails.
Review 20:Breakfast buffet was great. Nice to know they accept pets.
Review 21:The hotel room is brand new, so the furniture is with the smell of painting, espercially the table, when I am working on my lab-top,somehow it bothers me a little.
Review 22:The location is just on the beach front of Cambria, the breakfast included is wonderful. The room is spacious and well equipped.
Review 23:Having breakfast on disposable plates and plastic cutlery ruins any breakfast. Yes I understand CA is always Ina drought but where there is a will, there is a way. Clean sheets also take up precious H2O but we don't have disposable sheets. It goes into landfill. Washing dishes and flatware is not going to deplete the water table.
Review 24:There was a body odor smell in the room. The room did not seem to have a way to regulate the heat or else we were not told how to do it. It was too warm. It needed to be aired.
Review 25:I enjoyed the perfect temperature of the pool. The dining facilities were very good. The room was quiet . The bed was comfortable and it seemed clean.
Review 26:TV in the breakfast area was too loud. We were there alone and would have liked to have it off instead of blasting but couldn't find a remote. Ate outside instead which was nice and offered water views.
Review 27:Rooms were nice and clean, modern decor. Bed very comfortable. Hotel is across the street from the beach and a boardwalk.
Review 28:The key to our room would not work and we had to request new keys frequently.
Review 29:The front desk (Mary Ann) finding a pet friendly room for us when all of those rooms were taken. It was imperative that we bring our dog Abby with us to celebrate our #50 Anniversary. The walks along the ocean were fantastic.
Review 30:The price was a bit high, and there was no/little cell signal.
Review 31:The room was very nice, comfy beds and great pillows. The fireplace was a very useful feature since the fog rolled in and it was rather chilly.
Review 32:My only dislikes were the extreme price. Not to mention the location of the room did not allow for any breeze to enter our room. Overall room was hot and stuffy.
Review 33:The benches that were provided facing the ocean allowed for a romantic setting, not to mention a bottle of black hand wine. Morning breakfast was hot and spicy with a touch of sweetness, perfect. Shower had great water pressure.
Review 34:The day shift staff were amazing but the male night shift staff member needs a refresher on customer service. I abide by the rules and if treated with respect will do what is asked. Treating people like they are idiots and watching the rudeness over and over again with multiple customers makes me mad especially at over $200 a night.
Review 35:I liked the location and the facilities.
Review 36:Wifi was a bit weak and slow. Housekeeping kept trying to clean the room earlier than we expected. Should have just put the Do Not Disturb on the door.
Review 37:The location is excellent, the decor in the room very contemporary, fresh and tasteful. No flower prints or hokey lace! Breakfast was excellent, plentiful and good variety. Staff was very friendly and helpful and room very clean.
Review 38:Was rather stark-not a cozy feeling. Also "garden view" just meant there was no ocean view from our room. Also, no garden. Other places in same location were less expensive for the same type room.
Review 39:Loved the location & the room was clean & newly renovated
Review 40:Didn't care for charge for water I never used or for the $25 holding fee. It was corrected but I was never advised of the holding fee. A smaller light would be appreciated in bathroom--room too bright for sleeping.
Review 41:The location and the room.
Review 42:We went out to get in spa at pool location at 8:30am on Sunday morning and were locked out. It doesn't open until later in the day. Some folks are morning people.
Review 43:Comfortable bed, great location, polite staff.
Review 44:Would rather have the tub shower separate from the sink so you can use both areas separately
Review 45:The room was large and very comfortable. I liked the table and chairs and the separate microwave closet area was great. Fireplace is a great idea for winter months.
Review 46:Super location across from the beach and boardwalk, Helpful staff, super-comfortable beds, and a hot breakfast, 15 minutes from Hearst Castle. It's hard to ask for more.va
Review 47:Only downside was the internet did not work in our room. We were traveling with friends and it worked well in their room so I think it depends on the location of your room. It wasn't the signal because that was strong so I'm not sure why it wouldn't connect.
Review 48:This really is a great value. Arrived to a great welcome with cookies & coffee after a long day traveling and hiking. Rooms are heated by a gas fireplace. Rooms are very clean. Comes with a fridge and keurig in each room. Bathrooms are spacious with a strong showerhead. Robes are in the closet. Ample parking and breakfast is good! Its right across the street from Moonstone beach and very easy to find. I would stay here again!
Review 49:The salt air has taken it's toll on the exterior of the hotel. But I have heard that an upgrade is planned. It's no reason not to stay here, however.
Review 50:cross the road, the beach and trails are right there. Staff helped us to find places to eat. Rooms are nice and the fireplace is a nice touch.
Review 51:Rooms did not have A/C but the staff was very accommodating and provided a fan. Just needed for a short time as the nights cooled things off rather quickly.
Review 52:From rooms to location to staff all were first rate. Really a GREAT place to stay. Oh yes, the breakfast was great as well!
Review 53:Quite shabby looking, electric outlets were pulling out of the wall. All units face the parking lot. Dim lighting in room.
Review 54:Nice location right across from the beach. Convenient to Hearst Castle and other sights. Hot breakfast.
Review 55:The gardens between the buildings were very nicely maintained and the location couldn't be beat. You step across the road and you are at a nice boardwalk lined beach. Without asking they gave us an upgrade to a room with a beach view, how fun!
Review 56:it was unusually warm and no fans in room. Front desk did give us a small fan to use which made it better. Ceiling fans or small fans in each room for those few hot days would be nice addition
Review 57:location to beach and walking path and the nice breakfast room and free breakfast menu was excellent...very quiet facility
Review 58:Ocean across the street Very nice cottage style room Towel art on the bed with flowers Great breakfast included. Price reasonable for CA Coast. Could hear the surf at night.
Review 59:decor and fittings dated and a little rough Round the edges, carpet quite dirty.
Review 60:nice rooms, lovely high ceilings with gas fires. Comfortable beds, adequate breakfast, nice staff. THE best location, just accross the road from wonderful beach.
Review 61:Breakfast very indifferent for a hotel at this price. Breakfast room not large enough so had to wait for a table 2 out of 3 days we were there. Poor selection of food and served on awful disposable plates with plastic cutlery. There are only 2 restaurants within walking distance. Both quite pricey and long waits for a table for dinner as neither take reservations.
Review 62:Beautiful location. Very comfortable rooms. Nice pool and hot tub.
Review 63:Everything just looked a bit tired, for the price we paid I don't think we got good value for money. Wifi was not very good, kept dropping off. Robe in the room was dirty, something had been spilt down the front & staff had obviously just hung it back up again. Breakfast quite basic, not very inviting.
Review 64:Beautiful location right across the road from the water. We somehow got upgraded to an ocean view room. Free cookies on arrival, that's about it really
Review 65:No tea bags with the coffee maker but you can get them at breakfast.
Review 66:So great for walks to see all the wildlife. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The room was large and comfortable, the bathroom well equipped.
Review 67:the price, $335.00 for a queen room, it was nice and clean, but not three hundred dollars nice.
Review 68:the location comfy beds quiet benches to watch sunset the grounds
Review 69:We were only booked for 1 night. The morning of checkout my husband woke up sick. When I asked front desk to extend our stay they upgraded the next people booked for our room so that we could stay an extra night and not change rooms! So appreciate their thoughtfulness.
Review 70:Clean, nice, spacious rooms. Breakfast was very generous incl. waffles, oat meal and cereals. Reception staff gave excellent service. Pool / Jacuzzi area also nice (quiet during our visit).
Review 71:A bit too expensive. No bar.
Review 72:Pacific shore 100 ft from the hotel. Cozy, clean rooms with fireplaces. Kitchen equipped with microwave oven. But beware - it could be foggy there! For us it was actually nice change from heat and sun in other CA places.
Review 73:Leaving the waffle making machine behind :-)
Review 74:Across road from Beach. Saw Whales from coast line Awesome pool area with glass walls and jacuzzi Waffle making machine at breakfast buffet
Review 75:Beautiful spacious room with high ceiling and a gas fireplace. Comfortable bed. Quiet, despite proximity to rte 1. Located directly across the (quiet) street from the beach. Very complete breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 76:Kitchen staff needed to be more aware when food items were running out or near the bottom.
Review 77:great office staff...great location quiet atmosphere. clean rooms.
Review 78:room was quiet, clean and had a nice view from the front door. grounds were well kept and very clean. the inn fit in very nicely with the cambria setting. very dog friendly.
Review 79:Room was pretty in a quaint way. Breakfast was good with nice choices. Staff attentive. Beautiful view and walking path along the beach. Nice restaurants in walking distance. Pool and hot tub for relaxing after a long trip. Good night sleep and overall pleasant experience.
Review 80:Rooms and entire facility needs upgrade. We have been here before many years ago, but very little has been done to spruce up facility and rooms. The website is misleading from pictures. Wi Fi did not work for me. Over priced for non view room. Garden View room is a misnomer. It is a parked car view.
Review 81:Quiet at night
Review 82:However the rooms are tired, ours didn't have a sea view and backed onto the Highway immediately behind the property (and all the others in this section). Generally comparing it with the other hotels we stayed in it is overpriced and in need of a make over.
Review 83:The staff were helpful and friendly and the location is good with most rooms having a view of the sea.
Review 84:WiFi was terrible in the room and considering the area has a poor ATT cell signal would have really liked WiFi. WiFi worked in the Breakfast room pretty well. Also we arrived late at night (10pm) and the only option for food was the Shell gas station. Would be nice if the hotel offered some microwave meals for sale and use of the breakfast room. We cannot be the first people to have this issue after driving Hwy 1 all day.
Review 85:Place was really cute and comfortable old school motel with a nice breakfast. Great location. Fan in the room was a nice touch. Fireplace not needed in July!
Review 86:Breakfast is terrible - like a low budget truck-stop. with cheap plastic decoration in an outhouse, and low quality, help yourself, food
Review 87:Location by the sea Room is spacious Outdoor pool (which is in the car-park)
Review 88:The room (single king with garden view) was somewhat small, but OK. The chairs were just plain terrible. The were wicker chairs that had reached their end years ago. They were falling apart, uncomfortable and old.
Review 89:The location was great. The daily breakfast was also very good. The staff was courteous and friendly. The proximity to the beach made for easy beach walks and watching the sunset at a moments notice from the hotel.
Review 90:The bathroom was a bit dated with old pink tile and a worn looking cabinet/vanity.
Review 91:The location across from Moonstone Beach was outstanding. Our garden view room was very quiet at night. The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. We also liked the breakfast.
Review 92:Lower room with window one foot above the ground.would have loved to open windows to look at beach, but didn't need everyone else looking in our room as they walked by. A lot of $$ for an older motel.
Review 93:Location was great
Review 94:stay was too short.
Review 95:The area, and the friendly staff that was more than willing to help answer our questions. Breakfast was quite appealing and very well kept.
Review 96:Helpful staff, wonderful location next to the ocean
Review 97:Proximity to the ocean
Review 98:Disappointed with breakfast facilities, lukewarm food in a room more like a staff canteen than an inn.
Review 99:Superb room
Review 100:Boring interior rooms
Review 101:Location
Review 102:Nice location, quiet and very comfortable.....best hotel bed we ever sleep in...
Review 103:The fireplace
Review 104:Excellent location, clean rooms, very warm and friendly staff, breakfast on the house and a decent one.
Review 105:Walls a bit thin. Need more than just fire for heating. A lounge area would be nice.
Review 106:Location. Fireplaces in room. Breakfast.
Review 107:Plastic cups in rooms, shampoo and conditioner weren't very good
Review 108:Incredible location, the rooms were clean and nice.
Review 109:Location! Location! Location! Helpful people:)
Review 110:No comment.
Review 111:Location just cross the from beach.breakfast excellent on special diet oatmeal was perfect for me,plus variety.Thank you.

Review 113:Everything we had a great room by the ocean
Review 114:The location is great. Rooms comfy. Great staff. Make sure you eat breakfast outside - the ocean view is wonderful!
Review 115:Location and beautiful ocean views.
Review 116:Perfect location, friendly staff.
Review 117:Everything was excellent. Staff was great.
Review 118:Stayed there before and the room was much larger. This room was small and cost a lot for what you got
Review 119:Room did not have a fan and the one I borrowed from the office was dirty.
Review 120:Location was ideal!
Review 121:Cell reception is poor. Glad they had wifi.
Review 122:Hot breakfast is a great amenity.
Review 123:Great staff and beautiful place. It sold me when I we got two cookies when we checked in. My cell phone internet didn't work
Review 124:room too warm
Review 125:location comfortable bed takes pets
