Reviews for Hotel Monasterium PoortAckere

Review 1:Just did not love the stairs but good excersize I guess .

Review 2:Very good location and helpful staff especially letting us store luggage all day on the day we checked out.

Review 3:Rooms could use some updating but were large. We were in a standard room so I'm assuming the more expensive rooms are probably better.

Review 4:Location was excellent. Parking on site for 15€ was well worth it.

Review 5:Breakfast not included in price and very expensive for what it was. Parking also expensive so added quite a bit to the cost of 2 nights stay.

Review 6:Fascinating building and very comfortable beds. Night porter who let us in at midnight very helpful

Review 7:Room décor very basic. nothing glamorous. mould in bathroom not enticing.

Review 8:gorgeous old building. great location short walk from centre of town. parking is handy.

Review 9:Nothing bad to report

Review 10:A beautiful converted monastery in a central position. Stayed in a lovely, quirky, superior family room. Good breakfast enhanced by availability of bottles of bubbly. Helpful staff. Great hotel to escape the modern, standard hotels. Would definitely stay again.

Review 11:Walls were very thin, could hear the neighbors the whole time and what they were saying.

Review 12:The location was great, the building was spectacular and I like what they have done to preserve the old monastery.

Review 13:Staff were very friendly; throughout our weekend, we encountered at least five different staff members, who all greeted us, enquired about our stay, and provided ample directions to places to see and visit. Before our visit, we asked a couple of things by email, and were replied to almost instantly. The location is also perfect: the hotel is only a five-minute walk from the historic city center.

Review 14:Paid for an upgrade, but found the room probably the original one booked! Room was big, good bathroom, probably need to do an upgrade to the decorating and the TV Breakfast was lovely, but hopelessly overpriced!

Review 15:Location excellent, Staff friendly and helpful! Room spacious

Review 16:We were put in an annexe of the hotel which bore no resemblance to the rooms and facilities advertised on the website. The room was damp, smelly and dirty and on the 2nd floor of the building with no lift! Do not book this hotel unless you know that you are in the main building.

Review 17:The hotel is close to the historic centre with parking facilities.

Review 18:The rooms were stuffy and not at all in monastery part. The pictures on booking.com were misleading Though we thought breakfast was included turned out it was not.

Review 19:Big rooms, great location, one room even had a full separate kitchen

Review 20:The rooms were bad: spiderwebs on the walls, the wallpapers came off the walls, disgusting blankets, bad TV reception, furniture from 20 years ago. Don't believe the room pictures on the website. way too expensive!

Review 21:the monastery is beautiful. very well located (short distance to the city centre). employees were ok.

Review 22:Nothing.

Review 23:Loved the staff and the feel of the place. Memorable place to visit a vastly underrated city. We stayed an extra day here. Strangely awesome wi-fi.

Review 24:Breakfast abit pricey so had really good economic one down the road

Review 25:The quiet and the surrounds and coolness of the rooms Really central for old Ghent

Review 26:Rooms are very basic - does not match pictures on site. Two small single beds. Bed was too short for my husband. Bathroom had some mold. Would be ok if pictures matched and if price was around 70 euro/ night

Review 27:Good location - unique building and atmosphere

Review 28:Helpful staff and a cavernous room . Seriously , you could swing a sabre tooth tiger in there . Sadly they are now extinct . I don't think those facts are related .

Review 29:This is a historical monument, do not expect hyper modern comfort. Everything is a bit weary, still it's clean and all basics are there.

Review 30:This authentic old abbey, conversed into a hotel is bursting with charm and historical beauty. It has a large park-like internal garden. The whole interior is a monument worth visiting.

Review 31:The disabled room is quite a way from the entrance but ok to get through to breakfast - perhaps a disabled parking bay closer to the disabled room would be helpful.

Review 32:Good rooms for disabled visitors with excellent shower facilities which were very accessible.

Review 33:Beakfast and parking are too expensive; when I arrived there were no sheets, blankets, towels for the children

Review 34:Distance from center is very good, Staff is very kind and the place is quite clean

Review 35:The part of the hotel I slept in was not worth the money. Stains in the carpet, on the wall, in the bathroom. The furniture can use an upgrade as well, the TV was 20 years old, the chairs were totally uncomfortable and I couldn't sit on it for longer than half an hour.

Review 36:Distance to city center. The style of the building I did not sleep in (the back part of the hotel - probably where they took the pictures) looked great. The bed was comfortable.

Review 37:The furniture looks shabby and needs to be replaced. It all looked a bit spartan. Breakfast is OK, but I would not pay 17 euros for it (In our case it was included in the room rate).

Review 38:Near the centre of town and the parking was large and very convenient. The building had great character. We stayed in the maagdenvleugel, where there was a lift. The staff was very friendly and helpful, but at times had to deal with too may people (there is only one receptionist).

Review 39:I do not like my bed, it is not comfortable and the blanket is not enough for me, I was cold :(

Review 40:There is free drink in the room and wifi.. and the hotel is near the city center...

Review 41:The shower was a hand held hose in the bath, without even a hook to hang it on to free your second hand. Decor very tired and worn. No soap. Light from illuminated hotel sign glared through window all night despite curtains.

Review 42:Good location and spacious room.

Review 43:- rooms equipped with old furniture - flecks on the floor in the room - room in 2nd floor without elevator - btw, it was a monastery before, so no elevators can be expected in this hotel

Review 44:- close to the center - at the moment of booking it was the cheaper accommodation in Ghent - rich breakfast in nice environment

Review 45:Anyway the closet in our room was broken and the bed was only half made... after all it was not worth its price

Review 46:The place is amazing: an ancient monastery now transformed in a hotel.

Review 47:The 'Breedhuis' part where we had our room is a run-down, unwelcoming affair which makes you feel sad. Quite different from the pictures shown on site! The room itself was tidy and spacious but the bedding was not meeting modern standards. Bathroom window wouldn't close properly, while room lacked heating. Not worth 4-star ranking.

Review 48:Located right in the city centre, 10 mins. walk to St Baafs cathedral. Breakfast ok, good bread and pastries.

Review 49:Location. Atmosphere, the hotel is an old monastery and they kept that atmosphere as good as they could. Staff is very friendly. Breakfast is great. Private parking is very convenient. Wifi is fast and easy.

Review 50:Parking is costly. Together with breakfast this adds 27 euro to the room price (which is still reasonable for such a hotel, but better to include everything in price).

Review 51:The feeling of living in former monastery. Old city is very close, but enough away to enjoy quietness.

Review 52:The rooms shown on booking.com are nothing like they offer you when you get there. Over priced. Paid extra for two 17 euro breakfasts, champagne etc, no champagne offered, food was being taken away while we were eating , asked for croissants but waiter informed us know food would come out of the kitchen after 10.00am ( we were told 11.00) on check out still told us 11.00 ? Manager and receptionist very unfriendly. Would never go back to this overpriced hotel!!!!

Review 53:Location

Review 54:There was absolutely nothing that we did not like and would definetly go stay there again.

Review 55:The staff were very helpful, the rooms were cosy, quirky, and full of character, the building was fascinating to look at and explore, and the old town was just 5-10 minutes walk away.

Review 56:It is a good 400 yards from the main centre

Review 57:This is a Victorian built monastery which has been lightly converted to a hotel. Great parking good breakfast pleasant staff. If you like the Sound of Music you will love the atmosphere

Review 58:Shower wasn't repaired during 5 night stay, defficient cleanliness, mosquitos in the room, mosquitos crashed against the wall. Rubbish wasn't emptied, very poor housekeeping

Review 59:Lots of space in the room, very good Wi-Fi

Review 60:bedding old fashioned and not to usual business travellers standards

Review 61:excellent breakfast excellent location, central, close to sights very friendly staff hotel with a special cache, medieval feeling one feels fine in the hotel

Review 62:The wifi on the second floor just didn't work. The breakfast was great but too expensive. 17 Euros is too much!

Review 63:Great location! Right next to city center, walking distance. The building is fascinating, since this was an old monastery. The rooms are big and clean, so is the bathroom. The furniture is old, but we had no problem with that at all. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 64:You must have a group of 16 people to be able to eat at the restaurant at night. The rooms could use a coat of paint, but the place was very clean, comfortable and nice considering it's an old (beautiful) converted abbey.

Review 65:The twin room we were in was huge. There was a separate room with a little couch plus the twin bedroom. The place is a converted abbey so it is old and I thought the place was very comfortable. Also, I had no trouble walking to all the major spots in Ghent and never had to bother with public transit.

Review 66:Room was shabby Mattress old and lumpy Breakfast very expensive added 50% to room rate Car parking charges added 20% to room rate

Review 67:Good central location

Review 68:We don't have anything to complain about.

Review 69:We stayed for one night in one of the superior family rooms under the roof of the monastery. We had a nice time, thank you very much!

Review 70:Great value, large clean room; unique experience staying in a former monastery. Short walk to the major sights. Ample parking. We were very happy with our experience and would definitely stay again.

Review 71:Dirty looking carpets, walls and mould in the bath room... needs a good going over... Very shabby looking hotel. Certainly not a three star hotel! Wild imagination whoever rated it! Very very basic!

Review 72:Great location couldn't be better. Toiletries and basic facilities, no thrills or spills.

Review 73:Cost of breakfast was high so we opted out.

Review 74:Historical interest of the building. Great location near the centre of Ghent. Clean and comfortable. Parking was convenient just behind the hotel.

Review 75:not quite clean. needs painting here and there, especially in the bathroom. parking too expensive

Review 76:hotel in the center of the town. charming monasterium. nice breakfast

Review 77:cobwebs in our room, dust & cluther under our bed and in room corners, windows in our room never been cleaned (one had green moss on the outside), new towels needed, paint is falling off in hallways & room, carpets need cleaning or changing. This hotel feels like a cheat, it is more a hostel than a hotel, while charging as a four star hotel. Parking space can be a problem returning late in the evening, prepare yourself because without a code you can't get out and staff stop working at 23h..

Review 78:location

Review 79:- Dirty carpets and walls - Battered funitures - Cracked single layer windows - Cold coffee at breakfast - Unpolite staff at breakfast - Ultra used sheets

Review 80:The location.

Review 81:The hotel is in need of re decoration .The breakfast is comprehensive but too expensive& car parking expensive also

Review 82:In the middle of the historic old town. On site parking- although there are limited spaces.Piped gentle music in the public areas, very peaceful. The room we had was enormous as was the en suite bathroom

Review 83:Access to the sleeping area- there was a low beam which was easy to bump your head on.

Review 84:The location was excellent. Parking was easy. It was very quiet and restful.

Review 85:it wasn't easy to find the room...becaus it's old building, but it's not so bad, just- strang.

Review 86:the amazing buildings, the old furnituers. the quiet.

Review 87:Old world charm, certainly different but provided all that we needed for this part of our trip. Staff very pleasant, nothing too much trouble.Easy walking to centre of Gent which is a lovely city. Food in the area was excellent - try the Domestica.

Review 88:Good location. With so many restaurants nearby i did not have dinner here, although the breakfast was good. Good internet connection.

Review 89:Shower useless

Review 90:Hotel needs updating Poor quality bedding

Review 91:Size of room. 3 single beds in 1 room Breakfast

Review 92:Great location for historic centre, very quiet, comfortable superior twin room.

Review 93:a bit smelly rooms, old furniture and difficult to iron clothes.

Review 94:The staff was nice. The location and style of the buildings is interesting.

Review 95:The room we had wasn't like any of the pictures on the site, also lots of noise from the room above

Review 96:I liked the building we weren't staying in

Review 97:Nice original hotel, handy for city centre.

Review 98:In our section was no lift and we, at our age, found stairs to the second floor a bit tiresome.

Review 99:Peaceful & quiet, good location.

Review 100:Lovely atmosphere. The hotel staff were very helpful.

Review 101:very basic - spartan experience - old rooms - not in relation w/ price

Review 102:location breakfast

Review 103:Breakfast a bit expensive so gave it a miss and went into town

Review 104:Great building inside and out Close to the centre of town

Review 105:Very dark rooms, but with a converted monastery , what would you expect

Review 106:The staff were extremely helpful

Review 107:The road was very quiet, but the rooms had very poor sound insulation so, you could hear the noise in the other rooms

Review 108:Breakfast was terrific

Review 109:that you could not eat there when it was not reserved

Review 110:i liked that it was simple, clean and peacefull.

Review 111:Room decorating is a bit tired in places i.e. flaking paint in bathroom.

Review 112:Location, large rooms and high quality breakfast.

Review 113:Would have appreciated better beds

Review 114:Location and breakfast

Review 115:Redecoration should be considered.

Review 116:Big rooms, friendly staff. Great location!

Review 117:The breakfast was fantastic, and the buildings themselves very characterful.

Review 118:every thing was good

Review 119:unusual but pretty setting excellent location to explore Gent by foot

Review 120:Very noisy, bedroom door opened on to pathway into hotel. Room could do with decorating.

Review 121:Great location. Friendly staff

Review 122:Nothing

Review 123:Easy access to main attractions Good bar and restaurant at end of the Road English spoken by all staff who were Very helpful

Review 124:Rooms need updating but not a big issue.

Review 125:Value for money, good location, big rooms, set off from the road so quiet.

Review 126:Everything, Its too dear no where to park and they want 15 euros with that. The food was vile, just awful

Review 129:Staff were most helpful and friendly

Review 130:everything seems a little too old

Review 131:Good location, nice staff, good breakfast (except fruit salad)

Review 132:Shower screen

Review 133:Quiet location Parking Unique hotel

Review 134:Particulary, the lack of fire safety procedures. Rooms were rundown in need of repair, refitting and decoration.
