Reviews for Pelican Inn & Suites

Review 1:There was no instruction about having to use the fireplace as the heater. The thermostat didn't say. So we looked for a heater duct for central heating. Finally, The service tech that came to the room told us. The ceiling fan cut out. It worked, then it didn't work. Since the ceilings were tall, it was assumed that having it on would circulate the heat better. We got cold. But, they told us at the desk to leave the fireplace on while we left for dinner ( again, something in the room could have explained all of this). In the end, we did get warm. There should be some hooks for clothes and robes in the bathroom. The expensive bottled water was way overackaged and seemed out of place. Domestic water that is more sustainable and, better yet, complimentary would have been better.

Review 2:What a wonderful Inn! It is just over the road of from the sea. Nothing to stop the view and with a wooden side walk there is plenty of time to enjoy a sunset even if it is a colder evening. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The rooms tidy and decent sized.

Review 3:I'm always a bit sore after sleeping in a firm bed. Not much I can do about that, as most hotels are choosing firm mattresses these days. Also was charged an extra fee for one day, but the charge was reversed on checkout.

Review 4:Friendly staff, very comfortable, spacious room, and incredible towels. A few good suggestions by staff for eating places and amusements. We will more than likely stay at the same inn or another managed by the same company. They are first rate!

Review 5:Nothing

Review 6:The location is amazing, with world class sunsets. Pay the extra for the seaview and balcony. The cheese and wine welcome is a nice touch. There is an amazing seafood restaurant 4 doors down, where we had the best night of our trip so far.

Review 7:No access in the rooms. Not a big deal but it did get a bit worm.

Review 8:The location, wine tasting, the staff was so helpful. The breakfast was typical but at least it was fresh and good.

Review 9:Found front desk not very helpful. Had only 1 desk chair in the room. Breakfast waffles didn't cook. Over-priced considering there are multiple places to stay.

Review 10:Very good location

Review 11:No issues

Review 12:Great location off the highway and near the beach. Free wine and snacks in the evening were much appreciated and a good opportunity to chat with fellow guests Some confusion with the check-in but given a room upgrade which was great

Review 13:Mold growing in the shower/bath. Lots of maintenance needs to be done to bring the place back up to what you'd expect for the price.

Review 14:Great location on Moonstone Beach. Walk out of your room and be on the beach in less than a minute.

Review 15:No curtains in our room. Privacy unsecured as people pass in front of your windows to access the building.

Review 16:Welcome. Breakfast quality. Front sea, not the room

Review 17:The room was very nice, just as described. The view from the balcony was wonderful. The staff went out of their way to contact us when we had left a hanging bag of clothes in the closet. They held it for us until we were able to return a few days later.

Review 18:It was hot when I was visiting, and the room doesn't have an air conditioner. There was a fan in the room, but it didn't help much and was very loud. This probably isn't a problem most of the time since it's usually pretty cool by the water, but it made my stay less pleasant this time.

Review 19:The room was well-appointed and comfortable, and the hotel is in a beautiful location!

Review 20:The from was too hot, because the heating system could not be turned off. We had to sleep with the window open and the public light entered right through the room.

Review 21:The location is very good, close to the beach.

Review 22:light maintenance. have stayed their three times over the years. this time noticed bumps, and chips to finishes and trim.

Review 23:Laid back atmosphere. Location.

Review 24:Was accused of smoking and had a charge on the bill of an additional $270. (We are non-smokers and choose a non-smoking room). Staff was not warm or welcoming.

Review 25:Was close to the beach!

Review 26:Walls are thin. Could hear our neighbors conversations. Then again they were teenage girls so in the hotels defense they were pretty loud. Not much verity on channels on tv.

Review 27:The view. What more can one say? It was amazing. Breakfast was good. Staff was friendly. Room was gorgeous, with a working fireplace. Comforter was thick and heavy so one can sleep with the window open and not freeze to death. Restroom was huge.

Review 28:Our shower was not draining right, very slow. Someone next door to us took a shower at 1:00 in the morning and the shower pipes between the walls where extremely noisy. It woke me up and I was awake for an hour. Finally I fell back asleep.

Review 29:Having the ocean view suite. Wine and appetizers in the evening.

Review 30:We enjoyed an overnight stay in a very comfortable room. The location is terrific, across the road from the beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful recommending the best seafood restaurant of our trip at The Sea Chest.

Review 31:Beautiful oceanfront location, warm, friendly service & a large, charming room with fireplace. We needed a relaxing get-away & this was the perfect place!

Review 32:We had to change from first room with a partial view for a few reasons. The bed was very uncomfortable; walls, carpet and glass door were unclean. Sounds worse than it was, all in all an ok experience.

Review 33:Location, location, location. Staff was pleasant.

Review 34:The fireplace didn't work. But in the hotel's defense we never let them know to see if they could fix it. We didn't need to use it this visit.

Review 35:We loved everything about our stay at the Pelican Inn. Upon arrival we were upgraded to an ocean front room. The staff was warm and friendly throughout our stay. Our room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. It was the perfect romantic weekend away. I cannot say enough how much we loved staying at Pelican Inn and we will definitely be returning.

Review 36:Even though it was ocean view it looked over the carpark first. The bathroom was small and could do with an update.

Review 37:Room had a homely feel with ocean views. The wine and nibbles was offered when we checked in.

Review 38:Lovely homely feel, big rooms with fire, great spot just opposite the beach and near to town / restaurants. Free afternoon cheese and wine was a nice touch and breakfast was good too! Friendly staff gave great service and travel / restaurant suggestions.

Review 39:Very good value. Location near ocean was great. Very well appointed room with luxurious king bed and great shower. Nice little touches like chocolates on the bedside tables on the first night and robes. Very nice, hearty breakfasts that varied each morning. Nice wine / cheese hour at the end of the day. Very helpful and friendly staff - Christina gave us excellent suggestions for a self-tour of Paso Robles wine country. We will come back!

Review 40:Being next to the ocean . We had a room on 2nd floor overlooking ocean with sunset right in front! Great place to stay only wish we had more than 1 night.

Review 41:We were very disappointed in the sheets they were ragged soft and in some places torn not at all to standard for the price they charge for the room. In fact I'm not sure that I've ever slept on sheets like that in any of our hotel choices. There were no wine glasses in the room which I think is appalling given it is wine country, and when we asked for a wine glass we were told we must pay for them seven dollars each class unbelievable? The Woman at the night desk just had no sympathy whatsoever she was very rude and not very helpful regarding the glasses. My husband and I were looking forward to a nice bottle of wine we had brought with us and drinking out of plastic cups did not seem appealing.! and apparently we were not allowed to have glasses unless we bought them .

Review 42:The location is excellent of the very few rooms have oceanfront, the breakfast was very good. We appreciated the window washing equipment after our journey which was hanging on the exterior of the hotel wall.

Review 43:Minor but would have liked to have been able to brew herb tea at night. K-cup coffee maker does not allow for that.

Review 44:Spectacular view; fantastic location; great layout of room; suite; breakfast and happy hour included.

Review 45:The breakfast was a little basic but was enough to keep us going all day on our road trip.

Review 46:The hotel is ideally located on the beach in Cambria. It's such a beautiful place and I wish we had stayed longer. But as we were doing a road trip we just wanted somewhere scenic to stay overnight. There is a lovely walk to do along the beach. We saw seals and chipmunks on our walk!

Review 47:We had some ants in the room that we notified staff about which they took care of.

Review 48:The hotel was right across the street from the beach. The wine cocktail hour was also great.

Review 49:We loved the entire experience of being guests at the Pelican Inn. It was affordable and classy...a rare combination. It was especially nice to be so close to the ocean and nature without the usual commercial establishments common to such locations. We didn't want to leave.

Review 50:We loved the room, we were upgraded to a wonderful suite. Loved the breakfast, wine and cheese in the evenings. The staff was very professional and friendly.

Review 51:Our room had an amazing view of the ocean, with a walk-out balcony. We enjoyed the fireplace during the chilly evening. The room was very clean and the bed was perfect!

Review 52:Even though our room was not listed as a ocean view room, we could still see the ocean out of our window. The staff was very friendly and helpful and made you feel important. When we first checked in the manager said "you made it!" As though he had been expecting us specially. The free, hot breakfast every morning was delicious and varied a bit from day to day. The complementary wine, cheese and desserts were a great way to unwind at the end of the day. Will definitely be back again!

Review 53:The room was an inside room so it was very small and basic. Don't expect cell reception unless you are in town.

Review 54:Great location by the ocean. This motel matches very well to the other motels in the area. Very quiet and restful retreat. Quaint and restful!

Review 55:I asked for a view room as it was shown on the ad. they ignored this request. Our room had a ceiling fan but no air conditioning.

Review 56:Good breakfast and nice afternoon wine reception. Greasy location

Review 57:I stayed in a second floor suite with an ocean view. I could watch the sunset from my terrace in the evening and cool ocean breezes and ceiling fans kept the room cool and comfortable at night. The breakfast buffet was excellent and allowed us to have a leisurely morning. The staff upgraded my friend and she got an excellent oven view suit too. Excellent accommodations.

Review 58:The room needed some TLC. Walls and baseboards were scuffed and dirty. Upgraded showers would be nice, they were very dated. New carpet as the carpet was very worn in areas.

Review 59:Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Location was incredible. Continental breakfast was hot, fresh and delicious.

Review 60:The breakfast was free, with that said I'd improve on the coffee and the oatmeal was runny. There were a few places in the room scuffed and could easily be fixed with a little paint

Review 61:Ocean view Location Clean spacious room Comfortable bed Wi-fi HBO Quick check in and out

Review 62:The room was stuffy at night if the fan over the bed was not on but was cold if it was on. The fan could be reversed and it was good for a nights sleep. Had to stand on the bed and pull a chain to reverse the fan.

Review 63:It's location. Clean. served a free breakfast every morning.

Review 64:The Breakfast was horrible. The Oatmeal was 1/3 water on top of oatmeal. They said it just needed stirring. The OJ was watered down. The spinach eggs were awful. They should get better cook and bagels

Review 65:The Bed and room were great. The afternoon wine cheese tasting were fabulous. This could be a great place. Just don't eat their breakfast, but everything else is wonderful

Review 66:Somewhat expensive for this type of hotel. Severe drought in California and requests to save water but no hooks for used towels. The roll-away beds need to be renovated.

Review 67:Peaceful and relaxing. Very nice and friendly staff. Nice rooms with a beautiful ocean view. The complementary wine and cheese was a nice detail.

Review 68:---Ceiling fan didn't work properly ---No air-conditioner ---Wifi was so poor that we had to contact the server customer service representative who was able to walk us through the steps to fix the problem---but only temporarily ---VERY expensive (we will avoid this place during their high season, in the future)

Review 69:---Location ---The room was nice ---Adequate breakfast

Review 70:Our room was in need of some updating. Paint needs touching up, some major dings in some of the furniture make it look a little off.

Review 71:The view was amazing. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Property is in very good condition. Nice walkways and landscaping. Wine and cheese reception in the evening is a great place to make friends and trade suggestions for dinner and activities. Breakfast buffet was well presented and had lots of healthy choices.

Review 72:Rooms are spacious and comfortable, ocean facing best to enjoy theviews. Hotel puts on cheese & wine tasting which is a niceextra. The area is a good stop over if driving via the scenic coastand is close to heist castle and elephant seal colony plus nicerestaurants close by.

Review 73:Great location; beach front and 5 min. Drive to town shops and restaurants. A 2 min. Walk to Sea Chest for excellent dining. Staff was helpful and friendly. Lovely room with sitting area and small balcony from which to view the ocean.

Review 74:The room we where in was located at the back of the hotel next to highway 1. This meant that the room is quite noisy.

Review 75:Room was well furnished and very comfortable.

Review 76:Totally overpriced. Very disappointed in all aspects - amenities, bed/pillow comfort, room temperature, décor, breakfast.

Review 77:The hotel was based half way between SFO and LAX and near Hearst Castle

Review 78:Very comfortable bed and pillows

Review 79:We were upgraded to an enormous suite with a fireplace and glimpses of the water. Very nice. Good launch point for Hearst Cadtle.
