Reviews for Cambria Pines Lodge
Review 1:Our stay couldn't have been better!
Review 2:The location in the coastal hills, the inviting ambiance of the rooms, restaurant & live entertainment on premises.
Review 3:Two minor things: there was a window left open, which I did not discover until to late... came down with a bad cold. To top that off, someone had left the alarm set for 6am... so much for sleeping in.
Review 4:Nobody warned me about arriving the last night of the Christmas lights festival... it was amazing. I really enjoyed it. My accommodations were enormous, far more than I needed, but very nice.
Review 5:As we were there over New Years weekend, we were treated to the most beautiful decorations. 15 miles of trees, foliage and innovative lighting. It felt like we were in Europe during the holidays. The staff was extremely friendly and anxious to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. Our accommodations were wonderful.
Review 6:I was very disappointed that our room did not get cleaned . We returned in the evening to unmade beds and dirty towels They did adjust our bill by a small amount. Everyone makes mistakes.
Review 7:Beautiful location and rooms are ideal for sharing with other adults We each had our own space. We enjoyed walking to town, exploring the grounds and watching deer nibble on grass outside our room.
Review 8:The pull out sofa bed was out of order and you can hear the upstairs travelers walking at late hours
Review 9:The room was great. But I know now to ask for an upstairs room.
Review 10:Everything was wonderful. From our patio we could see the ocean through the trees. We were there during the Christmas Light Festival and we did not have to board a bus to get back to the parking in town, we just walked back to our room. They even have a friendly resident cat.
Review 11:Upon check in , attendant forgot to give me keys, House keeping threw away my coupons, coffee maker sucked, no sign letting us know we had to turn the fridge on , after house keeping left our room smelled like cigarettes. ..neither of us smoke
Review 12:Room was very spacious and bed was comfortable, xmas market was super cute, breakfast was awesome, grounds were very pretty
Review 13:We came for the Christmas Light festival. Perhaps a little customer service training for the parking staff would benefit the overall stay for guests. We were rudely questioned and they demanded to know our name, room number, did we know how to get to our room, it felt like more of an interrogation than helpful questions. Perhaps CPL could provide parking permits for our cars to aid the process of parking.
Review 14:We came for our second year of attending the Christmas Light event. It was wonderful! More lights than last year, loved the Golden Gate Bridge display, and heard a wonderful Brass Band on Friday night. All was delightful!
Review 15:The gardens and forest makes for a lovely setting, the fireplace rooms are huge, and the breakfast is wonderful. The spacious lounge has live entertainment every night too!
Review 16:The cost of the Thanksgiving dinner. We had a lower unit, due to my bad knee, so we heard every move the residents above made. The insulation between the stories is bad. The variability of the temperature in the shower would change from warm/hot to cold mid-shower, and a lot of water was wasted waiting for it to run warm/hot..
Review 17:The excellent staff: the maid, the front desk and the rest of the ones I met. They were courteous, friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were great.
Review 18:We loved this hotel and want to come back. It's perfect for Hearst Castle visitors like us, and offered a lovely room with surprisingly nice finishes, fabrics and a gas fireplace. The pretty pool/spa area and the live entertainment in the restaurant/bar at night kept both us grown ups and the kids happy! The delicious full breakfast was the finishing touch. Thanks for a great stay. :D
Review 19:a fridge in the room would have been good.
Review 20:Good location, comfortable room and excellent facilities - heated pool, hot tub etc. A good meal in the hotel restaurant plus entertainment in the bar. The staff were cheerful and friendly. Excellent breakfast!
Review 21:Very unique property, felt like you were nestled in the mountains. We stayed in a standard room, clean and cozy. We were there for a quick overnight so didn't get to explore the grounds. Breakfast was awesome!
Review 22:The pillows were just a little big for my head! Ha! And that is literally the only draw back.
Review 23:Such a quaint, rustic, clean, and beautiful gem. I loved everything about this place.
Review 24:The rooms could use an update and thorough cleaning.
Review 25:The gardens are lovely . Breakfast was very good and the dining areas are bright and airy. The "natural" a/c is wonderful.
Review 26:We chose the Cambria Pines Lodge as a getaway for a 90th birthday celebration. We had 4 generations present and the property and surroundings had something to offer everyone.
Review 27:The weather was warm and we didn't find air conditioning. Rooms were very warm. Ceiling fans would have helped.
Review 28:Very clean, comfortable. Like little mini suite. Breakfasts were delicious.
Review 29:No air conditioning or ceiling fans. Somewhat dated decor. A bit overpriced for what you get.
Review 30:Staff friendly and accommodating. Grounds maintained. Buffet breakfast was adequate.
Review 31:Breakfast was ok
Review 32:We really enjoyed our stay, rooms are comfortable and clean. The setting is beautiful but be aware it is 300 steps down to the town! Compared to other places we stayed on our trip this was very good value.
Review 33:Visited during very hot weather so lack of air-con made sleeping difficult
Review 34:Nice bar & restaurant Good wifi Lovely breakfast - lots of options Fab location & view
Review 35:It was a little noisy. We were in a downstairs unit and could hear the people above walking around.
Review 36:The grounds were very pretty, nice gardens and walking paths. Be sure to visit the nursery nearby.
Review 37:The spa was not accommodating. Also, others guests staying at the lodge were loud till 2:30 in the morning on both Friday & Sat. night.
Review 38:Great location and trail to town.
Review 39:None.
Review 40:Quality ,standard, and size of accommodation .Plesently surprised to have a separate sitting room and small patio area to the bedroom room 718 Great bar and restaurant with good standard of food, and on the night we were there a live solo artist in the bar . Located next to a Lovely ,small, quaint town .All individual private business nothing commercial at all ,local traders shops and restaurants . 3 minuet drive from hotel. A gem of a place ....well done to the team who run it the hotel.
Review 41:Could hear people walking in room above. Noisy plumbing. Could hear people coughing in room next door. Bedside alarm went off at 6.00 am and couldn't turn off so pulled plug out of wall. People in adjacent room had same problem and couldn't turn it off!!
Review 42:Nice big room. Good breakfast.
Review 43:Arrived late and in need of food. Restaurant closed at 8.45. Bar food available but couldn't sit in the bar with our 20 year old non drinking son. Had to sit in the pretty but deserted outside area to eat and drink. Can understand a restriction on young children but a 20 year old! Rooms a little dated.
Review 44:Pretty grounds. Lovely staff. Only had brief overnight stay so didn't get the chance to explore fully or use pool.
Review 45:Slow service during dinner ..Saturday night ... They were very very nice ...but slow .. Wedding party ws going on ..so many they were busy???!!!
Review 46:Entertainment ...great music !!
Review 47:There was work going on just outside our unit that the workmen thought management knew about it but booked us in the room anyway.
Review 48:Spacious suite provides room for both my wife and I to walk around and not be in each other's way as we are in a normal hotel room.
Review 49:These facilities are in need of a major update. They would have been current in the 1970's-early 1980's. And I'm not OK spending hundreds is dollars for a room where we had to suffer the sounds and foot steps of the guests in the room above us. Also had to drag bags down steps to get to the rooms, sobtheyvare "drag-and-drop." I expected more at this price. Plus there was no view or beach access. That part was miles away.
Review 50:The staff was great and the gardens were a plus.
Review 51:nothing - if anything we would have liked a couple more days
Review 52:lovely chalet style room with views over the pine valley large and very comfortable great pool with large tree overhanging covered with hummingbirds peaceful, pleasant
Review 53:Lovely accomodation set in the woodlands. Comfortable rooms and excellent food. Perfect location for exploring Hearst Castle and beginning our drive up the Big Sur. Extra marks from the kids for Smokey the cat, who took a shine to us and was a regular visitor !
Review 54:There was a safety problem with the room that was originally reserved for us but we were immediately switched to another room and we were offered an upgrade.
Review 55:The water in the shower was like a trickle, which during a drought, ends up making you use more water, not less. Awful shower. Internet was so-so. We did still really like this place though and would recommend it. The shower issue may just have been our room.
Review 56:Lovely location, beautiful hotel and great breakfast buffet (though it cost additional).
Review 57:1. Heard every footstep from the floor above us. 2. Switch for bedside lights out of reach from the bed. 3. A small sink in the kitchen area would help, or getting a drink or making tea conflicts with others' bathroom time.
Review 58:Large areas broken into small areas so one never feels overcrowded or overwhelmed.
Review 59:Restaurant refused to provide water with dinner, made us buy expensive bottled water instead. Claimed this was because of California drought, but no other restaurant we visited did this to us. Staff told us they were "saving the planet" but smacked more of management fleecing us for $30 more on our bill.
Review 60:Floors overhead were a little creaky. Easy to hear noises and voices outside. Only a minor point as no one was particularly noisy, but if there was a party on I suspect it would be difficult to block out.
Review 61:Spacious room with balcony - very comfortable. Pleasant bar area. Nice pool & jacuzzi. Had a slight problem with a blocked sink on arrival & maintenance were there to fix it instantly. Easy drive to Hearst Castle.
Review 62:The lodge was very pleasant with a beautiful view of the mountains. Breakfast was a King or Queen's feast! The children loved the pool and jacuzzi. The restaurant food for dinner was also very good.
Review 63:No bad experiences to report, however breakfast selection a bit basic. No baco, mushrooms or tomatoes
Review 64:Superb bedrooms set in lodges dotted around the wooded hillside - wonderful
Review 65:Trying to connect to the internet. Called the front desk to ask forassistance. Said she was a mac and to follow the instructions, which Ididn't understand.Being told we were too noisy. All we'd done was to laugh during a game of cards and immediately there was a guy from the front desk sternly warning us that other guests had complained we were making too much noise. Seriously? The folks in the next room made more noise listening to the tv. We're a couple in our 60's on our honeymoon. How much noise could we possibly make? We were really offended.
Review 66:The accommodations were very nice and the rooms were immaculate. Wevisited the nursery, which was lovely. Breakfast was great and thegardens were really something. I'm a landscape architect. Thank youfor providing such a lovely environment.
Review 67:Room was very old & outdated, carpet stained & dirty, furniture old and scraped up, beds & pillows were old, lumpy & uncomfortable. Ground floor room #112 had thin walls & sounded like elephants in room above.
Review 68:Gardens, location, resident cats.
Review 69:The rooms above us were having their carpet replaced and although they didn't start working real early in the morning, it would have been nice if they had closed off the area and given us a different room.
Review 70:We love this lodge and have been coming for years now. The heated pool is great nd the breakfast buffet is excellent!!
Review 71:The layout of the suite. Bathroom - not being able to lock the toilet door from shower side. Did not give privacy between rooms when staying with son and girlfriend. No sink in bathroom only one in main bedroom. People sleeping in lounge had to clean teeth and wash hands in kitchen sink if main bedroom asleep. Not ideal.
Review 72:Beautiful layout of lodges and gardens. Main buildings all very nice and in character with surroundings. Swimming pool excellent.
Review 73:No A/C and it was a bit warm. So we left windows open to create a breeze which helped. My only other comment would be that it would be nice to have a towel rack by the sink.
Review 74:The grounds are beautiful, they have a restaurant on sight, live entertainment nightly in the lounge, beautiful gardens, a hiking trail and even a spa! The resident kitty was an added bonus! Plus they gave us a free upgrade to a suite! We loved the view, the fireplaces in our room, microwave and frig, I could go on... it was great!
Review 75:There was a lot of noise from the people above us. Sounded like they were moving furniture. The lighting in the bathroom was inadequate for putting on makeup.
Review 76:The breakfast was great. Fast checkin process. Nice facilities.
Review 77:I would not have considered it a forest view, as the view was a older, be it charming greenhouse, and what almost looked like a chicken coop. My friend got an alternatively very cold and very hot shower, at a time when very few if any people were using the shower. Lodge restaurant closes whenever they feel like it-closed at 7:30 pm. the night we were there. Wonder if that means the locals think the food is not so good?
Review 78:Our room was in the older section of the hotel. Basic amenities were included, a one cup coffee maker, a hair dryer. Beds were comfortable, I don't know about the WiFi, since I didn't have my laptop. Wish I had booked a superior room with fridge, microwave, next time....I will be back. I like the woodsy atmosphere of the grounds as a whole. Reception staff is friendly and helpful.
Review 79:Spa interiors were outdated -- time warp back to the 60s. The spa staff needs to update their skills -- did not really know how to do foot reflexology message -- isn't this part of the message training program to receive a certificate.
Review 80:The grounds are lovely and our room was clean and very comfortable, with a usable balcony that we really enjoyed.
Review 81:Our dining experience wasn't the best as the fish was cold and the food selections were very limited as a tour bus arrived before we did.
Review 82:The grounds of the property are very tranquil..
Review 83:We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Cambria Pines Lodge and had a fabulous time! We stayed in a family suite which had a king bed in the bedroom, a fold out couch and a Murphy bed. We didn't use the couch bed but the other two beds were quite comfortable and there were plenty of pillows! There was a fireplace in each room which would have been great had there been a need to use them. Our room also had a little balcony which we enjoyed one morning while watching a family of deer walk by. The grounds were wonderful to explore. It was fun seeing what was growing in their herb garden on our way to their nursery. The included breakfast was sufficient and included scrambled eggs, pancakes, toasts, fruit, sausage, biscuits & gravy etc. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Cambria!
Review 84:The grounds are exquisite with a central beautiful garden area featuring different plants, benches, fountains, that allow you a quiet place to relax, You can eat their great breakfast cozy inside or in an outdoor garden patio or tucked into an alcove with fireplace. The dinner, all organic and healthy, was particularly delicious.
Review 85:upon arrival at check in, person at front desk was not pleasant and attempted to charge double what I had arranged on line and was sullen when I asked her to please change the reg card to reflect the correct rate. Also, I did not like the fact that the management charged a deposit on check in.
Review 86:location, room, bed. Bathroom was not so convenient-no sink. sink was outside bathroom.
Review 87:Unfortunately, could not open windows due to faulty screens. Quite a few flies and front desk did not have fly swatted.
Review 88:The property was beautiful, staff was very attentive and breakfast was very filling!
Review 89:The rooms are tired, especially the bathrooms and the maintenance staff is sloppy. It took 4 hours and three calls to get a corkscrew, a light bulb was burned out in the (only) overhead light in the living room and the bathroom tub dripped.
Review 90:We had a deluxe king suite (?), and it was a stand alone building that was quite spacious. A large is living room, separate room for the bedroom and a nice patio. Also the property is right above the center of town, so it's a 5 minute drive or (even better) you can take the path to town if you are comfortable with about 200 steeps steps.
Review 91:We could hear entire conversations of the guests in the room below us. Room seemed old. Carpet and heater very old. Needs a renovation .
Review 92:The grounds were pretty. Nice pool and hot tub. Good breakfast .
Review 93:I love the lovely breakfasts! Oh, just delicious and well organized! Best complimentary breakfast ever. Love the gardens. The whole place is just so full of a rather sweet/old fashioned ambiance. I love it!
Review 94:This hotel is set on a hill a little bit above the main busy street in town. Many rooms have a lovely view of the mountains. The breakfast was full on with lots of options
Review 95:we needed a rollaway bed. beds were uncomfortable rooms were not sound proof! very noisy family next to us.
Review 96:location to hearst castle. only were there for about 15 hours, so didnt see the whole hotel. restaurant seemed nice and had live music.
Review 97:We loved the location and setting of this hotel. While not right in downtown Cambria, it's a 5 min drive to all of the cute shops and restaurants. We watched the sunset at Moonstone Beach and had an excellent dinner at The Black Cat. Just stayed one night, as we were working our way up the coast to SF.
Review 98:I loved being able to take our Basset Hound with us, our room was like a mini condo/cabin and we walked to dinner and the pool - just minutes from Moonstone Beach and Main Street. I recommend making dinner reservations at the Cambria Pines Lodge early or before you arrive. Also don't miss coffee and breakfast at Linn's by the post office
Review 99:The position of the vanity was odd, being outside the bathroom area and directly in walkway between sections of suite. No A/C and windows that were difficult to open.
Review 100:The size of the suite allowed us to relax in comfort, and the breakfasts were very good.
Review 101:The window in the room would not open or close. The room we were givien was not th room in the advertised on the website-very disappointing, though this is the second time this has happened to us.
Review 102:Good Breakfast.
Review 103:The room is old, kind of funky and really cramped for a family of 4 with two queen beds. Half of our family thought the breakfast was ok. The other half with food intolerances had fruit.
Review 104:The grounds are really pretty and the location is nice
Review 105:Our room was on the ground level with a room above ours. We could hear every step the occupants above us made. The be was too soft. The desk clerk was all business, but seemed a little hurried.
Review 106:The price was right and the location is perfect if you are visiting the local area.
Review 107:No bad experience but the rooms we had did not have air conditioning. No problem at this time of year (Feb. 2015) but they would be stuffy in the summer
Review 108:live music and the complimentary buffet breakfast was great
Review 109:The room was beautifully decorated, top notch in every way. The grounds were very peaceful, I loved strolling around the gardens. There were so many butterflies! The included breakfast buffet was really good - be sure to try their homemade salsa. Both the indoor and outdoor seating of the restaurant had a very nice ambiance. I'll be sure to stay here again for sure.
Review 110:Loved it all.
Review 111:Location is perfect. View room with fireplace overlooking the gardens. Great buffet breakfasts. Nightly entertainment and dancing in the lounge. Terrific!
Review 112:My boyfriend and I stayed here for the night this weekend. Loved the place, the location. Ser if was great. Stayed at a large suite and was very affordable. My boyfriend loved it as well. Will definitely be coming back soon.
Review 113:The room we stayed in needs an update. The blinds were broken, a couple of the lights were burned out. The most annoning thing was hearing - loud and clear - the people staying above us. These must be the "old" rooms.
Review 114:Amazing location. Great friendly staff. Wonderful breakfast. Good restaurant. Plus it is fun to spend time in the Fireside Lounge. The grounds are wonderful. The cost was very reasonable.
Review 115:2 young child do not interested in Nature or coast. It might be good if you have some player ground like Monterey - Aquarium
Review 116:I brought 3 adult children and they like this area. Good nature and close to coast line
Review 117:The pillows on the bed were horribly uncomfortable. Woke up with a kinked neck and headache. There were plenty of pillows on the bed but for some reason they were all the same, really puffy and big. Very little sleep due to horrible pillows.
Review 118:The location and lay out, spaciousness of room and hotel grounds was very nice
Review 119:we were serviced by Tamara she was rude and unhelpful I requested Christmas dinner. In the initialour booking she informed us that we had no reservation even it was in the booking request. No alternative was offered.
Review 120:Nothing
Review 121:During our 2 nights stay, there was live music and dancing at the lodge. We danced and chatted with the other participants. Lodge personnel were polite and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. We're planning to come back soon.
Review 122:Upstairs room was very difficult to find when arriving in the dark. Room numbers were not lighted or at street level, only on room doors. Would recommend that sheet of paper they give you, state that reservations are required for dinner. It only states the hours that dinner is served. When we arrived for dinner at 6 PM without reservations the girl was rude and told us it would be 8PM before they could serve us. Then she said you can go eat in the lounge if you want.. The lounge was very noisey and full of people watching a big screen TV. We ate in the village below with only a half hour wait. A wonderful setting and meal...
Review 123:Setting in the pines. Comfortable and spaceous rooms. Very good breakfast. Beautiful gardens.
Review 124:The Lodge wasn't really built to take larger families with >3 children.
Review 125:The gardens & the setting around the lodge were magnificent, esp in the mornings
Review 126:Room was average nothing special. TV didn't work right.
Review 127:Coffe available early morning. Breakfast is great. Location is beautiful. Spa massage was wonderful.
Review 128:The rooms are definetly outdated as many of the reviews that I read said. The carpet has a strange odor and looked dirty and sticky.
Review 129:My family and I liked the fact that our room had a little patio which our two yr old loved! The staff was friendly and attentive when we arrived and when we had breakfast in the morning
Review 130:$90 room service meals were very poor. Worse was the fact that we were referred to restaurant manager who didn't have the courtesy to respond to our message during our two day stay. Will stay again but eat elsewhere.
Review 131:Like the setting, room, grounds, and facilities.
