Reviews for El Colibri Hotel & Spa
Review 1:The rooms were elegant and clean. The crisp white linens and towels were great. The bathroom was updated and beautifully done. It felt like I was in a spa - very serene and calming.
Review 2:Everything was great......just one thing I have to add though, ...clean the ceiling fan in the room! (I guess the maids overlooked that). Otherwise, loved this hotel!
Review 3:nada...
Review 4:the options for dining and the closeness to the Pacific Ocean.....we saw Great Blue Heron,Cottentail bunny rabbit....dolphins swimming by....otters playing in the sea....Harbor seals....Shooting stars.....our host Christina was the BEST!!!.oh yeah..and the Steam room!!
Review 5:Beautiful rooms and great service. The staff was very attentive and accommodated our needs. Loved the rooftop hot tub. Very close to Cambria, only a 4-5 minute drive away.
Review 6:Poor communication by staff regarding hotel facilities and spa reservations. Lack of general maintenance you would expect at a hotel of this caliber/price range.
Review 7:The staff including one of the new owners made our stay a happy one. Our room with double beds was upscale and large. We will return rend recommend El Calibri to friends.
Review 8:I did not like the location, the town is dead very early, however it is in good proximity to Big Sur. My booking.com reservation was nowhere to be found, which was frustrating. I didn't think the rooms were worth the money, mediocre. Comfortable bed however and clean.
Review 9:Room did not appear like the booking.com photos. Have had nicer rooms in the same neighborhood for the money that we paid for this room.
Review 10:Nice fireplace,. spacious shower, clean, very friendly helpful staff.
Review 11:no time to soak in tub. Drought so i wouldn't .
Review 12:Free underground parking, cute hotel, big rooms and comfy beds. nice rooms. came with breakfast which is always nice. Short drive back to the Castle. They had windshield cleaning station, great idea to get salt off windshield
Review 13:We always love how clean and nice the place is. Right next to the beach also and is the only hotel we will stay in at Cambria!
Review 14:Heater/fireplace did not stay on.
Review 15:Lovely receptionists. Cozy room. Delightful common room.
Review 16:Breakfast was minimal should be more considering the price. Beds very uncomfortable pillows to big gave us neck pain.
Review 17:Clean and updated decor.
Review 18:No ocean view..,, But not a deal killer
Review 19:Our hostess, Kelsie was perfection in terms of recommendations, andtotally made our stay special!
Review 20:Not as fancy as we expected. No good view.
Review 21:It was nice but not for what we paid.
Review 22:Change of ownership, short on staff. Service lagged.
Review 23:Clean comfortable rooms Safe parking
Review 24:Close access to the beach boardwalk.
Review 25:The bed was so comfortable, I slept better than I had in a long time.
Review 26:They were dishonest about a wine tasting Billed us after the fact. They said there were signs but couldn't show us the signs the next morning. We certainly Did NOT see them. No outdoor space to relax. Street noise was an issue. Only 2 massage rooms so they couldn't accommodate our party of 3.
Review 27:Very good massages The ladies who provided them were also quite nice.
Review 28:The carpet in the upstairs hallway has some stains, but a good cleaning should take care of that.
Review 29:The King room was beautiful and the hotel overall is sophisticated and welcoming. The location is walking distance to restaurants and shops, although it's a bit of a walk from the beach. We got a complimentary upgrade which was very nice.
Review 30:In effort to reduce enviro footprint you should leave partially used bars of soap. They don't need to be replaced daily. And please put more hooks and towel racks in the shower area, so people can hang and then reuse their towels better. Less laundry, as you desire!
Review 31:Got a nice corner room upon request. Quiet, well appointed. Nice bed
Review 32:No view of ocean, but walking distance with boardwalk; no fan in bathroom; wished for a 30 min. massage at a lesser price; a better breakfast...fruit was ok but not organic; pastries & breads were bad quality.
Review 33:Fireplace in room, large windows looking out at a nice area with trees, plants; awesome soaking tub; 2 rooms, one with bed/tv fireplace, one with leather sofa/ tv/keurig coffeemaker; easy location (close to town and shoreline); underground parking
Review 34:They offered a breakfast buffet but only had it out for very early morning. On vacation I don't want to get up super early. So we could not take advantage of the offering
Review 35:I paid for a premium room with a view; I what received was an average room with a bubble tub right behind the check in counter. The view was a nicely mowed pasture of weeds. I even asked about the view and he said that all the rooms had a similar view. Do not pay for the upgraded room!!! There are other motels in the area for a lot less money and a far greater view.
Review 36:The reception on the television cut out constantly. No small fridge was provided to keep left overs, etc in. No microwave. I guess for the price I paid for the room, I just expected to have these items. I asked about the robes provided in the room. The card said they would provide new ones when asked to purchase. I asked and was told I could buy the used used one in my room for $95. A bit expensive for a used robe.
Review 37:It was a very clean room, staff was very nice.
Review 38:Lack of restaurants -, two nearby which were fully booked and long waiting time. On other side if highway - very poor options. Very hungry that night!
Review 39:There is no view, beside trees and bushes. There is a space for a refrigerator but didn't have one. The breakfast is very low budget with stale muffins, bread, cereal, fruit, yogurt and boiled eggs. Nothing hot. Staff was polite but didn't seem like anyone enjoyed their job or the guests.
Review 40:The hotel in on Moonstone Beach. The bed was very comfortable and it's nice to have windows that open.
Review 41:Our room faced the highway & was a bit noisy in the morning. Definately not a deal breaker but I would request a room on the opposite side.
Review 42:Smaller hotel; excellent customer service. We had a King suite which was spacious. Priblem with TV & they sent Patrick right up- very helpful!
Review 43:Upstairs room had shower on and was extremely loud. I immediately wondered if the walls had any insulation near the shower. Would have been nice if the rooom had a refrigerator and if there was maybe a vending machine somewhere that you could get a snack at.
Review 44:The room was furnished nicely and was clean.
Review 45:The staff I encountered was poorly trained and surly. The decor is odd. The hot tub was full of dirt and gross ... I won't set foot in this place again
Review 46:The bed was nice
Review 47:They wanted to give us a room that faced the parking lot and road. We had to pay additional $10. to get away from this. Sauna did not work. We arrived at the buffet at 9am they were virtually out of food....Young attendants not focused on taking care of the customer. My husband went by the buffet at 8am and I was not ready yet. He said they had fruit, bagels, nothing that great. At 9am they were out of bagels, coffee, fruit, nearly everything. I would not return and feel the amount we paid was way too steep for the broken sauna, scarce food buffet and really not so friendly service. Location is not so hot either. We already found a new place for our return visit.
Review 48:The bed slept good. Clean.
Review 49:Really wish there was a pool. The sauna was also out of order during our stay.
Review 50:Location was great. The beds were comfortable and the room was a terrific size.
Review 51:Rooms are average and not worth the price. I would not stay here again at two hundred a night. At 100 a night would be good
Review 52:Was within walking distance to beach and main shopping area
Review 53:Wifi
Review 54:The hotel is at the perfect spot to stop by a night while driving along the west coast. It is close to Hearst Castle. The facilities are great! Except for the wi-fi.
Review 55:Had to move rooms...though offered us a complimentary glass of wine... Appeared to be many other places to stay, just as nice or in better locations that were less expensive...
Review 56:Great location...close to walking boardwalk and town... Friendly staff... Spacious room... Fireplace....
Review 57:Direct tv provided in the rooms did not work all the time, some shows would start and stop and miss parts. Slow internet access.
Review 58:spacious, comfortable rooms, very nice staff. Would highly recommend.
Review 59:Better pillows Better coffee Real 1/2 and 1/2
Review 60:At first was a bit disappointed no Ocean view, but as we settled in and opened the windows and heard the birds and Ocean, I relaxed in a hot bath....felt the Zen. Massage was awesome, Terri was great, loved the comfort of robe, to Spa, down the hall. When we saw mama deer with young buck, we new we had picked the right hotel. Had a beautiful reconnecting time with my husband...beautiful stay. Will be back....blessings the O'Kanes
Review 61:There was neither a microwave nor refrigerator in the room.
Review 62:The room was fun and well put together, and the environment of the hotel was exceptionally inviting.
Review 63:It was pretty noisy and there was no view. I didn't like the location. I would rather stay at a less expensive hotel by the beach and have the beach steps away.
Review 64:I really liked the staff and the hotel itself. We had a wonderful whirlpool bath and the room was beautiful.
Review 65:The bathroom didn't have ventilation or a window. As a result anysmell would stay there forever. Our maid used for some reason so muchchlorine, when cleaning our bathroom floor, that I could not use it forhours... It smelled like chlorax really bad!
Review 66:The receptionist Paul was absolutely amazing! He went out of his way tofind food for us after 9pm, when all restaurants in Cambria were closed!
Review 67:It said I had a garden view but it wasn't what I expected. I thought it was going to be a pretty view, but it was just dirt and trees...no flowers or water.
Review 68:The jacuzzi in the room was nice
Review 69:The bed was very uncomfortable as well as the pillows, and had a room inthe front by the freeway was very noisy. We were next to a family withchildren who didn't go to bed till 10 and woke at 6! Very noisyhotel as we heard the freeway, children and people opening and closingdoors I would go back but request a room near the back and preferablynot next to a family with small children.
Review 70:Janet who checked us in, went out of her way and made our stay even moreenjoyable. I admired the fresh roses the hotel had as decor and sheallowed us to take some and even had a vase delivered to our room!! Wecelebrated our anniversary and found a lei of roses in the shape of aheart as we walked in, a personal card, complimentary champagne andchocolates. This hotel is closest to the beach and right off thefreeway, but secluded with the trees and greenery surrounding it.
Review 71:No mini-fridge or microwave in room, room was directly facing the road, with loud traffic and people unloading their cars staring directly into the room. Unhelpful staff, poor service. Terrible cold breakfast. Not "boutique" in any conceivable way.
Review 72:Nothing.
Review 73:The wi-fi was really poor.
Review 74:I really liked the hotel, it was really clean and nice. The rooms where great and the staff was amazing. GREAT PLACE TO STAY!
Review 75:The only thing that could have made the stay better would be a view of the ocean which is impossible from this location.
Review 76:Great room layout, warm and inviting lounge area, music and wine tasting on Saturday night, proximity to beach and town.
Review 77:Noisy. If they had a quiet time, they did not enforce it. Made it hard to sleep.
Review 78:Jacuzzi tube in room. Outdoor hot tube. Steam room. Massage rooms, which did not use, but will next time. Rooms nicely appointed.
Review 79:Close to the town but across a busy main road.
Review 80:The ambience and style of the hotel. The fire in the room. The wine tasting options. The feel of the hotel was opulent.
Review 81:Power went out on last day while in shower. Stayed off tell we left. I'm in wheelchair so it was not good. Then elevator didn't work.
Review 82:Room was ok
Review 83:There were no rooms with an ocean view.
Review 84:The staff was friendly and helpful. The King Suite was comfortable, veryspacious and best of all there was a Jacuzzi Tub! The breakfast the nextmorning was just icing on the cake. Will stay here again!
Review 85:The room was overly sanitized and smelled like a too clean Motel Six. Hall carpet was loose and buckling with rolls to step over. In-room Wi-fi did not work.
Review 86:A very nice place with a location near to the art and wine stores. David playing in the lounge during wine tasting was delightful. The in-room fireplace was snuggle-y warm. Could hear the surf from our room.
Review 87:I don't know if she was the owner but she was a bit rude. When Ireserved the room we asked for special requests none of which they wereaware of which made me feel like she didn't read them. We justchecked out of the room and I wanted to buy some glasses as keep sakesbc we had such a great stay...she wrapped them in like two pieces ofpaper and said to be careful with them. As we were leaving one literallytapped the door as we were shuffling all our things to the car andbroke. When we went back she talked to my significant other like he wasa child that we should have been careful...ect. Im sorry but I justdropped 250 on a room per night ..you can't throw in a glass whatmay have cost you like 2 bucks..they were 2 for 10 for us. Maybe youshould have had boxes for us...its stepware and we're traveling. Sheended up giving us another but kind of after the fact. It was weird. Ha.But other than that...this place was the amazing...We can't wait tocome back.
Review 88:The hotel is amazing. Our room was even better. We had the Superior KingSuite with view. The tub had crazy jets...we wached tv from it at night. Its right by the water so you can hear the waves..with the fireplace on.The bed was really comfortable...we took advantage of the turkish steamrooms. And Paul checked us in. He was the most helpful and genuine guy.Our fireplace was acting up... He promptly took care of it. Told uswhere to eat which was..made out reservations for us..a really cool guy.
Review 89:The mattresses on the beds were a little soft and the sauna was not working ..this was a little disappointing.
Review 90:The Hotel was very clean, well managed and tastefully decorated and laid out. The rooms were spacious and very nicely decorated with the fireplace being a nice touch! The staff was extremely accommodating, friendly and efficient. The Spa/Wellness Center was very nice and clean and the staff there extremely qualified, professional and friendly. The location was excellent and very convenient and conducive to biking and walking to most destinations (shopping, beaches, restaurants). Our stay there was exceeded our expectations and we will most definitely return in the future.
Review 91:Didn't like the fact that we went their and the spa and fireplace didn't work. There was only two people working and they were both bartender and facilities....just odd.
Review 92:No refrigerator in room. Come on, for $200 a night, the owners catafford a mini fridge? Close to the highway. Lots of car noise.
Review 93:The wine bar/breakfast area was very nice. The staff was veryhelpful. Allowed us to store our perishables in refer in kitchen, and torefreeze our ice packs in the freezer.
Review 94:Staff very helpful and friendly. The room (and entire facility) was really nicely decorated and well laid out. I'm planning to return to this property when in Cambria, and would recommend it to a friend.
Review 95:Couldn't figure out how to use the thermostat or tv.
Review 96:The room was terrific, very spacious and clean. The staff was very friendly. I loved the comfortable feel in the lobby, loung.
Review 97:The staff generally made no effort to be friendly. Walked past customerslike we were subservient. Beach was not viewable from hotel. Happy hour,or wine tasting, was more expensive than going to local restaurants.Price advertised was only roadfront rooms, so I had to pay an additional$15 each night to be away from the main road.
Review 98:Unable to answer questions about parking structure.
Review 99:Wellness Center, spa terrace, steam rooms, wine tasting offered by local vineyard, local artist entertainment, location.
Review 100:The spa tub in the room is very small. There was no refrigerator in theroom. I like chilled bottle water, I was very unhappy that at the priceof the room there was no refrigerator. The carpet looked worn and wasstained in some places. The breakfast was nothing special and themuffins were dry / seemed to be old (definitely not fresh). The maidwas already outside our door asking us if we were ready to check out at1030 -1045. We checked out exactly at 1100 we didn't need to maid tobe at the door with cart. Also, the cart was in front of our door mostof the day prior, we were in room 115.
Review 101:The hotel was quiet and the room / bed was very clean. We sleptwell. It was a good location, we felt safe. The underground car garagewas nice. It was great to be able to be so close to the MoonStone Beachboard walk. The morning staff who were tending to the guests were quickto take away plates and were very polite as was all of the staff. Weasked for extra towels in the morning and received them very quickly.
Review 102:Our room hadn't been vacuumed properly especially under the beds& lounge. Minor complaint but when it is a luxury hotel thatshouldn't be an issue.
Review 103:Facilities, accommodating staff.
Review 104:Too far to walk to the beach. Not clear in the online drscription. Staffnot friendly. They just went through the motions.
Review 105:The fireplace in the room and the jacuzzi tub.
Review 106:I think the pictures in the website are decieving, i thought both the rooms and the hotel in general would be much bigger.
Review 107:Super comfortable bed, very friendly staff, good continental breakfast
Review 108:A nice, complimentary glass of wine would be a nice touch.
Review 109:The room was very comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. The dinner at Robin's was terrific.
Review 110:Price. It's pretty expensive considering the area. Next to pretty path down to the beach but no beach view. Pretty close to Hwy 1 and traffic. Can't really step outside the main door without hearing it.
Review 111:Large rooms, comfy beds, good, helpful staff and great service. Quiet rooms. Deer right outside the window.
Review 112:No view to the ocean. A little over-priced.We would negotiate rate if we came next time.
Review 113:The continental breakfast was fabulous. I loved the boardwalk so close and ongoing.
Review 114:We did not like the continuous noise from the kids upstairs to includethe evening (jumping from the bed to the floor). We did not like how amessage from your cable company kept coming up every hour, and how thetelevision kept re-programming itself every 4-hours. The jaccuzi was tosmall. It didn't fit one average person comfortably. We did not likethe location, because there was no view, and we did not like how yourwebsite showed a totally different picture as than the actual hotel (thepicture that was located outside of the hotel is also not the same asthe actual view of the hotel - this is considered false advertisement).
Review 115:The only thing we liked was the comfort of the bed.
Review 116:Continental Breakfast and staff is so so. Hallways smelled heavily of amasking scent so wonder if there was water damage somewhere. Locationis off the highway and not right on the coast, but not too far away -about a mile.
Review 117:Rooms were very nice and comfortable. Front desk staff great.
Review 118:No complaints :)
Review 119:Comfortable, quiet, accommodating, nice staff, nice continentalbreakfast buffet, great bathrobes (should have bought them!), fantasticlocation right by Main St. Shops and restaurants and moments from thebeach. We had a wonderful stay and hope to return there soon!
Review 120:On a very small lot. Used as a take off spot to go explore for the day. Couldn't stay there all day nothing to do. No pool, views, or chairs to site on outside to read. Beach was a walkable but not jut across the street. Will stay elsewhere next time.
Review 121:The rooms were nice. We asked for an upgrade since our first room was right on the road and by an easement so often people were standing right outside the window.
Review 122:They did not have a mini-fridge in the room and parking was limited. They only have 4 tables to eat breakfast which meant people had to sit on couches and hold plates on their laps.
Review 123:The hotel was new and very clean.
Review 124:Recommendation: some cooked oatmeal and for those not interested in healthy breakfast a waffle maker
Review 125:Spa in the room steam room jaquzzi outside easy beach access healthy breakfast
Review 126:I've stayed on Moonstone before in other hotels overlooking theocean. We got to see highway 1. I was a littledisappointed.Everything was satisfactory but nothing shouts out tothe visitor you must stay again.
Review 127:The start of the beach walking trail is right outside the hotel. It is aclose enough walk to the Main Street Grill. You can get some great Bar-B-Que there.
Review 128:Our room was a supposed suite. The a/c was in the "livingroom." It never really made its way down to the bedroom, therefore,it wasn't much good. We were given a room on the street side andthere was so much traffic noise that we couldn't have the windowopen to catch a breeze. We were there 3 nights a left a tip forhousekeeping everyday, yet when I asked for clean linens on the bed, themaid still just made the bed and did not change the sheets. Also, therewas no desk or table in the room to sit and eat or to write. The flatscreen was too small and too low on the wall to watch comfortably fromthe bed. The night stands were tiny, I could barely have room for mywater bottle. The wall decor was extremely tacky. There was an oilpainting that was hanging on the wall with no frame. Clearly visiblewere the staples and the white edges of the canvas and even some stringsthat had shredded from around the edges were hanging down. Other wallart that looked like the proprietors children could possibly have madeit. It was crazy with felt and beads and jewels, yet unidentifiable.Absolutely no water pressure! We were supposed to have a refrigerator inour room and there was none to be found. There was a ceiling fan overthe bed but it wasn't remote control and unless you are 7ft tall youcan forget about adjusting the speed. The room had a fireplace. Wedidn't use it, it was one of those fake set in gas jobs. It wouldhave looked better without it, but on second thought, it went well withthe artwork. My husband used one of the robes provided by the hotel. When he was done wearing it, he put it in the pile with the dirtylinens. Later we noticed that the maid had hung the dirty robe back upon the bathroom hook. Seriously! Even though the bed was comfortable andthe room was fairly clean, for the price we paid, $250 a night, Iexpected a well appointed room.
Review 129:The Bed was comfortable. It was clean enough.
Review 130:Staff kept talking on the phone and made my family did not have a quick check-in, we waited 15 minutes standing with just 1 chair available. No swimming pool and just a small spa which has scary surrounding open facing the jungle. The price is too high not value for money.
Review 131:The design inside the room very beautiful. The items used in the room and the breakfast is organic and very healthy. Only the room is very nice, other facilities did not meet the other 3 star hotel standard.
Review 132:the hotel was clean, bed was comfortable, fireplace in the bed area of the room. nice atmosphere. staff helpful, breakfast adequate. can walk the boardwalk down to the beach from the edge of the property. overall feel of the hotel was relaxing and comfortable-a true boutique feel. would definitely stay here again.
Review 133:Not much not to like about this hotel. Wish I would have had time toenjoy the spa and had a message!
Review 134:I came with my sister on the way to Hearst Castle. It was a wonderfulretreat after a day long drive. We loved the decor! Especially the lobby--appreciated it as have traveled in South America. Beds were docomfortable. Rooms were quiet. Has excellent food in town and wish wehad had more time to spend in Cambria. Very nice job, I would definitelystay here when I return!
