Reviews for Grand Traverse Resort and Spa

Review 1:The salt water pool was gross and the beds were very uncomfortable..no fridge in the rooms and they never brought us the crib I requested.

Review 2:The lobby and little shops are fun and cute.

Review 3:I liked everything about our stay. Nice rooms, comfortable beds, awesome pools & hot tubs ( indoor & outdoor). Beautiful décor in the lobby. Nice shops, restaurants & sports bar.

Review 4:Hallways and exterior room doors are looking a little tired and banged up. Aerie bathroom could use a facelift. Service was impeccable in every area.

Review 5:Front desk ladies were friendly. Aerie bartender and lobby bartender were very good. Room was beautiful. Lobby shops are worth visiting.

Review 6:Great variety of shops and restaurants.Lovely atmosphere. We had three rooms with 3 generations and we all were pleased . We will certainly return to visit family again in the spring or summer.

Review 7:But be warned everyone, the rooms that are being sold on line are not the tower rooms but the old Hotel section and does not have the same amenities as the tower. Pay more for the tower rooms if you require a more luxury stay and if you have a more fluid income, otherwise good luck.

Review 8:The concierge service and valet service was wonderful. The rooms in the tower are Divine, but you pay through the nose for that room. Well worth it, I paid ten dollars extra to have the Bay view but they didn't tell me I would be looking over the top of Hotel attached to see the Bay view, I would watch out for that one.

Review 9:Garbage was left behind in the room, neighbors were checked in around2:45 am and kept us up until around 5am. Pool with slide was notoperating. Wasn't told at check in. The gym employees said it wouldbe working the next morning and it wasn'T. Booked the room based onmy 11 year old who was looking forward to the slide.

Review 10:It was spacious, a little outdated.. Easy to find. Lots of shops andrestaurants.

Review 11:The room was disappointing. We asked for a high floor near and elevator. We got the basement! and far from the elevator! The room was so outdated;dark and tiny bathroom. There was a patio door but it went nowhere and wouldn't open.Nice shops in the lobby but not open one whole day and any evenings when we were around??? No newspapers b/c the shop wasn't open and the front desk and/or doormen had none??? We paid twice again (plus) for one night than the other, even tho the same room with little amenities.

Review 12:The staff mostly was pretty nice, not out-of-your-way helpful but pleasant. The location was right for us. We paid twice again (plus) for one night than the other, even tho the same room with little amenities.

Review 13:The bathroom could be updated and cleaned better. The fan was very dirty as well as the mirror ( frame, not the mirror itself)

Review 14:The bed and pillows were great.

Review 15:The older part could use some updating, it doesn't quite match the extravagant lobby. Also there were dirty dished for more than a day in the area where the ice machine was.

Review 16:We really enjoyed the Aerie restaurant. The outside pool area was nice but wish it would have been open later, especially the adult hot tub.

Review 17:The overall feeling of the resort brings some confusion. The nicely finished and polished lobby, with rather contemporary style stands opposite to badly executed feeling of `70-`80 in the room we had. The quality of the room was the same we had another day at different place for half the price. I am sure the place might be a great choice for few days stay for family with children and for people looking for some rehabilitation and rejuvenation. Even if the feeling of "oldies" is hidden here and there, the facility is well prepared for all your needs with their program and the stuff. If you are looking for a cozy one night stand and the price which would not include so much stuff you could not use, you might want to search for a cheaper place with the same quality of the room.

Review 18:We have enjoyed quality of the stuff. The spa was nice, though one night standers might feel a bit limited with the resort programs at the swimming pool. There are choices you would appreciate if you stay more than one night and want to spend extra 100% of the price for the resort facilities.

Review 19:Everything was awesome in the tower. Our coffee was cold and was replaced with weak coffee in a smaller caraffe:(

Review 20:The decor of the room was awesome. Very comfortable bed. Room couldn't have been any better!

Review 21:We went to the Aerie restaurant and were turned away because we did not have a reservation --- even though the restaurant was almost empty! Rude and poor business practice. Our waiter in the bar confirmed that people are turned away from the restaurant regularly and rolled his eyes when asked why this happens.

Review 22:We ordered food to go from the late night grill. We asked for room service. Attendant said it wouldn't be much longer. Food came up. Get to room. No cutlery, napkins, etc. Called restaurant ... attendant said "come get it ..." I said, all things considered shouldn't you bring it?

Review 23:The entrance and lobby are nice.

Review 24:I felt like the breakfast was no different than a Continental breakfast except it was outrageously priced.. food overall was very expensive for what you got..

Review 25:The friendly staff

Review 26:This room was booked 5 months in advance, however, when checking in at 3 pm I was told room I reserved was not available. The parking was inadequate it required me circling both lots 10 to 12 minutes to locate someone pulling out. One of the room cards did not work which would be an easy fix but the line to customer service was long. No chairs in room just to sit.

Review 27:Clean and bed was most comfortable.

Review 28:Too much money for what the resort offers. This is not Chicago! Rooms were not impressive. Bad coffee in the rooms! Not a great breakfast nor wait staff in the restaurant.

Review 29:Clean, nice beds

Review 30:The room was clean but is showing its age. Needs to be updated. The jacuzzi made getting in and out dangerous and difficult

Review 31:We stayed in the tower and the size of the romm was great

Review 32:Rude desk clerk.( check in) Waited an hour for a to go meal that sat on a bar even after I inquired if it was mine. The room smelled musty./ difficult to keep the room warm.

Review 33:It was quiet./ house keeping was very nice.

Review 34:Food was ok. Wait staff at Jack's left a lot to be desired. Took 25 minutes just to get drinks. Heat in our room couldn't keep up.

Review 35:Location and facilities were great. Access to down town was great as well.

Review 36:We thoroughly enjoyed Aerie. Amazing food staff, and environment. Sweetwater however, poor service, cold food, and it took and hour to be able to eat! Will never eat at Sweetwater again nor will i recommend it!

Review 37:Drink mixes were not always good tasting at the bar. Room was a bit dry and had a lot of static.

Review 38:Easy check in. Friendly staff.clean and comfortable room.everything available right on site. Wish we had more time to use the pools etc. They looked like a great time for families. Good breakfast in their facilities.

Review 39:I think there should be a continental breakfast.

Review 40:Everything was super clean and the accommodations was extremely nice. Would def recommend and will be staying again.

Review 41:The lighting in the room is inadequate, which may be why the carpet wasn't clean. The carpet was not properly vacuumed and candy wrappers were found in the room. The manager moved us to another location, but she still had to send up housekeeping as the carpet wasn't clean there either. As I said the staff is excellent and we were compensated with a half-price rate on the first room and breakfast on the manager for the problem in the second room. However, the breakfast buffet at Sweetwater's was not very good. Maybe ordering from the menu would have been a better idea.

Review 42:The pool was great for my kids. Lots of families staying at the resort, so plenty of other kids for pool games. They have large floating animals and a cargo net for traversing the pool. Lifeguards on-duty to keep an eye on the ones that get a little to crazy and rough. Hot tub was also quite nice. You may bring your own beverages including alcohol to the pool. We had dinner one night on the upper level of the pool and health club that was purchased from an outside restaurant- no restrictions there either. The staff was friendly, helpful, courteous, and very accommodating. The bed was very comfortable. The spa tub in the room was nice to have after a day of downhill skiing. Additionally, they had free popcorn, lemonade and movies every night, during our stay.

Review 43:Staff service and food quality at Sweetwater restaurant was outstanding. Even during a late-hour supper on Saturday evening, the quality and service was excellent.

Review 44:We didn't have reservations for breakfast in the Aerie restaurant for Sunday morning. We were told we had to wait 45 minutes even though the place looked empty.

Review 45:The housekeeping staff was excellent for helping us find our way around.

Review 46:Having to automatically pay for the gym in the bill. We didnt utilize it. So i think if you want to use it then you pay for it. It should be your choice.

Review 47:I did not like the fact that my first room was so dirty when we arrived. There was so much hair in the shower and the bathroom sink, as well as on the floor and different towels. There was even hair on the bed when I pulled back the blankets and on the pillows. The throw pillows had stains on them. The phone had foundation on it. There was so much dust on the vent cover in the bathroom and on the AC unit. For such a nice hotel I was extremely disappointed and disgusted. They upgraded us to a nicer room but there was hair all over the bathroom floor in there as well. I was totally shocked by this. Nonetheless, I did end up enjoying my stay

Review 48:I liked the atmosphere of the hotel as well as all of the activities available. The hotel was beautiful inside and out. I loved the facilities as well.

Review 49:Changed us to a handicap accessible room after describing how the bed was too high for me to get in( I have ms and arthritis) imagine our surprise when the new room had the same highbeds. They brought is astoolso I could step up and hoist myself into the bed. Once imbed they slanted down and youft like you could roll our! My daughter felt the same way! The second day our air conditioning was not working. We reported it and left for the day. When we got back the thermostat had been removed and no air!we called9pmbynow and was told they would send someone right up. We waited stated dressed and did not get ready For bed. An hour later we calledagInto be told the unit was working by controls on the vent by the wall! Nooner réclame and no one called to let us know this until we called back. Very poor costomer service all the way around! I would not stay there again!

Review 50:Beautiful surroundings and close to traverse city

Review 51:The staff lost my reservation, then proceeded to charge me for the hotel, and for a cancellation fee. They charged me the fee because they said that my reservation was under another name, but with my credit card on file. Ended up being charged over 1000$ for a 3 night stay when it was supposed to be 650$. Had a really hard time getting the staff to help fix the problems they caused by the incorrect reservation. Luckily I had all the emails showing confirmation or else I might not have gotten a room!

Review 52:Hotel itself was great

Review 53:Front desk acted arrogant it seemed. Directional signage is awful. Facility is dated-carpet, paint, windows dirty. It was fine but for $200+ a night is expect more

Review 54:The outdoor pool was lovely. The Aerie dining was excellent.

Review 55:Would not respond to request for early check-in.

Review 56:Beautiful first class hotel fabulous brunch. Almost too many options. Didn't get to spa, tennis court, golf course, walking trail or gym. Lovely room.

Review 57:No umbrellas at beach pool or changing area. Shower not strong and bathroom a little small.

Review 58:Great views, wonderful pool and good food. Grounds are well kept and beautiful!

Review 59:The room was very dirty. Was very surprised there was no safe in the room .The bed leaned to one side. The desk bowed in the middle. Was my first stay at your resort i was very disappointed.

Review 60:I love the area ,Come once a year.

Review 61:The main restaurant did not have any windows, and there was an odor that made us look offsite to eat. The private beach was offsite, you had to drive to it, and it was uninviting.

Review 62:Liked the elegant lobby and stores off the lobby. The bed was really comfortable and room was roomy.

Review 63:The door knob on the bathroom came apart when you turned the knob. The toilet seat was loose also.

Review 64:The cleanliness and the food. The pool was just great.

Review 65:If you aren't staying in the tower it is not worth it. We were upgraded because we were on our honeymoon but it would have been a serious disappointment otherwise. Its much further from the water than expected. Its overpriced in my opinion from what your getting from the hotel.

Review 66:It had a lot of food options on the premises. From sit down restaurants to fine dining and room service.

Review 67:Hard to find our way around Front desk at check in was unfriendly We think there was beachfront, although we could never find it amenities were expensive

Review 68:Running path shopping options Comfortable clean

Review 69:The pictures they showed on Booking.com of the suite were a far cry from what the room looked like in person. I was expecting a pristine newly updated spa tub in the room with nice views of the bay. Which is the whole reason I payed so much for the room. What I got was a disgusting old grosse tub from the 80's with little hairs still in it and a breathtaking view of the dumpsters! Needless to say I showered. When I complained to the woman at the check in and showed her pictures of the differences she basically told me I was S.O.L. When it costs over 700 dollars for a two night stay you expect better.

Review 70:Besides my disappointing room the hotel was nice, I liked the amenities.

Review 71:The toilet was not clean. I had to clean it myself. Looked like it had not been scrubbed in quite awhile.

Review 72:Great, fun activities especially if you have smaller kids. We loved the beachfront property.

Review 73:The room didn't have a mini fridge. The room I stayed in was (i thought) an older part of the resort. Although it looks as though they have renovated it, the ceiling was low in my bathroom, and along the hallway to the gym and pool area. I would rather stay in the tower as opposed to the older part. The tower would offer a better view of the area.

Review 74:The location was good for the sites I wanted to see. The spa was well worth the price, and the staff was friendly.

Review 75:Beds were horrible. Pillows were horrible. Rooms were terribly dated, Drop ceilings in the bathroom! Pools were dated, not family fun.

Review 76:Pretty facility, the family restaurant, while slow was delicious. The staff was charming, very friendly. Room was somewhat clean.

Review 77:Loved the pool area...all the staff were friendly and helpful...room was spacious and clean...loved the shopping within the hotel. Will definitely visit again!

Review 78:Cleanliness, and beautiful updated rooms.

Review 79:Liked the shopping and restaurants

Review 80:Breakfast at the restaurant was cold.

Review 81:Very clean and comfortable. Loved the pools and outdoor hot tubs.

Review 82:My first room was not in the tower, the room was old musty and unacceptable.

Review 83:Personnel were pleasant

Review 84:It was so noisy at the hotel They had to change our room 3 times It was unbelievable how loud it was!

Review 85:Beautiful grounds

Review 86:Price

Review 87:Location

Review 88:The room was out-dated and the bathroom was just a mess.

Review 89:The spa, shops, and lobby was very nice.

Review 90:The beds, pillows, and comforter were very uncomfortable!!

Review 91:The golf courses were in excellent shape.

Review 92:Spa, large facility on huge property so I could jog 3 miles and still be on the property. Free parking and internet.

Review 93:Less than expected for quality. Services were ok but room was low quality for the price.

Review 94:Room was clean. Bed was very comfortable. Staff was very friendly.

Review 95:Room could have been cleaner.needs updating. Hall way could have been dusted and vacuumed also the room.

Review 96:Quiet rooms, spa, room service, food

Review 97:The a/c was very loud and woke me several

Review 98:the pool and hot tub have mold in it. needs to be cleaned out

Review 99:Sheets stained, hoped just stains and not unclean.

Review 100:Beds comfortable, fitness area and pools

Review 101:Not enough people working the front desk

Review 102:The layout of the rooms and the accommodations

Review 103:That I had to leave after my stay

Review 104:Clean facility

Review 105:Kenny was excellent! Had a massage and felt great - he was very professional.

Review 106:Lacking character, a bit dated and bland.

Review 107:Generally good.

Review 108:A little bit of a drive to downtown Traverse city.

Review 109:We loved everything about the resort ! Beautiful, clean rooms. Awesome pool area . Friendly staff !

Review 110:Remote control was missing.

Review 111:Great views and a wonderful room.

Review 112:location

Review 113:Did not realize there was a marajuana convention happening Labor Day weekend. You could not get away from the smell. Other than that it was fine.

Review 114:It was quite dated. The bathroom counter was incredibly low, very difficult for a person with a bad back to use the sink.

Review 115:Was overall an excellent hotel with very nice staff. Hotel was super clean and food was good!

Review 116:We only stayed 1 night!

Review 117:The beds were so nice!

Review 118:everything closed up to early in the resort

Review 119:food very good, fitness club, pools, beach

Review 120:there is all what we looking for in one place

Review 121:Cost

Review 122:Beds were comfy

Review 123:The fact that I booked a 10am massage the day I was checking out and wanted to extend my checkout by 1 hour to go back to my room and get ready for the day. I was told they couldn't accommodate that request. I thought about canceling the massage and probably should've since they wouldn't accommodate me.

Review 124:Signing in to use indoor pool area on a clipboard that sits on a counter requiring your room number seems like an inappropriate security measure. Indoor hot tub was luke warm, and I didn't particularly enjoy the lifeguard's music selection.

Review 125:Parking close to entrance. Short drive to Traverse City. Shuttle to casino. Room had plenty of space.

Review 126:The only thing that I didn't like is that the room looked a bit old, and the neighbors next door were so loud!

Review 127:Beds are very comfortable! Also bathroom was amazing!

Review 128:There was no specification as to which room I booked. We showed up and were given a room with two queen beds when I was under the impression that I had booked a king. The front desk attendant was very sarcastic about the whole thing.

Review 129:The choice of restaurants within the building along with the several shops.
