Reviews for The Beach Haus - Traverse City
Review 1:Ideally, it's a better stay in warmer weather...not their fault. It's the "beach haus".
Review 2:Great staff. Great location. Awesome beach and view of the East Bay.
Review 3:Road noise was a little distracting at night but tolerable.
Review 4:Beautiful beach even in late October. Rooms were clean, excellent view of the lake from the private balcony.
Review 5:Rooms weren't as updated. Whirlpool in room needed a little better cleaning
Review 6:Staff was amazing. Breakfast was good and cookies at night were a great touch
Review 7:All rooms have a balcony overlooking the beach and the view was beautiful. The staff was friendly and efficient. Our room was comfortable and clean. It was easy to get to all the places we wanted to visit. We really enjoyed our two-day stay.
Review 8:The rooms are very old and dated. Beds not that comfortable, spa in room worked but knob fall off and button got stuck down. Located on busy highway so if you go there, book a room with a beach view and not courtyard view which is really the parking lot view.
Review 9:The staff and the beach area are excellent.
Review 10:Our room was not as pictured here on Booking.com. The photos show it as a newly renovated kitchen and bath. The kitchen and bath in our room were definitely not renovated. Both were all white. I wish there had been a coffee maker in the room.
Review 11:The grounds are beautiful! It was nice waking up and seeing the water every morning. The cookies every night are a very nice touch. The staff was sincerely friendly. I loved that the kitchen in our room was for the most part stocked with the essentials needed for cooking. Overall our experience here was good. I can't give it a great rating due to the things I've described in the What Didn't I Like section.
Review 12:The heater was on high all night - never got the room warm enough. The room had a smell to it, some king of air machine was on the whole time under the desk. The price was too high 285.00. the room and bath were old and dated.
Review 13:The bed was great.
Review 14:My only complaint is that the need was a little to soft.
Review 15:Facility was very clean and staff was helpful and friendly. At check in we were given a lot of good information about what was the best of traverse city where to eat and what not to miss. A wonderful stay, we'll be back again!
Review 16:Beautiful! Right by the beach and it was perfect for our honeymoon. The staff was very friendly and our room was very comfortable! We loved the spa tub and the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies that the hotel has every night.
Review 17:Property a little bit older
Review 18:Very friendly staff, home-made cookies every evening, very clean, great view with grass lawn and beach behind the house, breakfast included
Review 19:We were unlucky with the weather.....being right on the beach would have been superb on sunny days!
Review 20:Our 13 year old would vote for the freshly baked cookies in the evening!
Review 21:The price was way too high for a facility like this. Feels like an old motel from a bad movie. Reminded me of European inner cities
Review 22:Great location. There was even a boat/parasail guy adjacent to it. We didn't even need to go anywhere
Review 23:The hotel its self was very small and a little outdated, especially compared to other resorts in the same area.
Review 24:So nice to stay right on the beach. The continental breakfast and cookies in the evening were excellent.
Review 25:The only bad "experience" was reading some reviews prior togoing with petty complaints and I am so thankful I went with myinstinct. Older property typically will have more land/beach andbetter views and 100% better customer service and this property did notdisappoint. Disregard the negative people and their views, they just donot get it.
Review 26:Upon the drive down the main street where it was located there wereliterally dozens and dozens of places to stay. I actually selected theBeach Haus after learning it was one of the original places on thewater. I have learned from traveling that if you want brand new stay ata Hampton Inn, they are cookie cutter and usually you can anticipatewhat it will be like or at least what it should be like anyway. I knowfrom much travel to find the lodges that were there from the start andthey are the places with the best views and Beach Haus did notdisappoint. Next to the Grand Canyon this is the best room view I'veever seen. The people were very nice, while some might complain aboutthe eating area and it being older yada, yada, yada......... Life is notabout "stuff" it is about views and memories and I will neverforget the absolutely beautiful view we had during out stay. Would stayagain in a heartbeat if you are looking for a great location. If you arelooking for a room that was built recently and has no wear whatsoeveryou might want to find a Hampton, but you will not be sitting on yourbalcony or on the beach watching and listening to the water. AbsolutelyBeautiful!! Owners were a bank of knowledge on just about anything youneed to know.
Review 27:I didn't sleep all night because the air conditioning was so loud, the room smelled and I checked out a day early and wasn't given any refund.
Review 28:On the beach
Review 29:1) The room's bathroom had blinding over-head fluorescent lighting (like an office cubicle), and a tub not suitable for relaxing (small and fluorescent-lit). It's the first place you visit after a long drive and it makes a bad impression. 2) The room's curtains open only one way, partially blocking the view from the bed. This is important, considering the view's what you're paying for! 3) While smoking is prohibited, and guests sign a non-smoking agreement, people playing music on adjoining balconies is NOT prohibited, and it is annoying and disruptive. 4) Small (but noticeable) is the cheap quality of the little things, like tissues and toilet paper, towels, and energy-saving (but cheap looking) room lightbulbs, etc. The Beach Haus Resort is NOT a cheap place to stay ($350 for two nights), and yet it feels "cheap". 5) It's a good MOTEL, but a disappointing hotel, and difficult to describe as a "resort"! While the private lawn and beach was filled with families (kids) who didn't seem to mind the no- frills approach, a couple looking for a romantic getaway, or a solo traveler might have a harder time relaxing.
Review 30:The view of the bay from the room and balcony was great, and the staff was enthusiastic, friendly and helpful! Continental breakfast was filling, with sausage and eggs, bagels and delicious pastry- a good start to a day of sightseeing! Since the rooms are not the sort of rooms you want to "hang out in" The Beach Haus is best suited to outdoor activities: They have a sand volleyball court, lawn bowling, grills, and beach with lounge chairs.
Review 31:The room had a weird odor the entire time we were there. It was probably some cleaning solution used by the staff but it was somewhat overbearing. The breakfast was somewhat mediocre.
Review 32:The fact that we spent so much on the room. There was no coffee maker, the room had some issues with broken facilities (very minor) but the staff dismissed it. The staff wasn't very personable. The breakfast was mediocre at best. There are much better properties right on the beach with a balcony at a much lower rate.
Review 33:The beachfront location was wonderful. Great view and very clean rooms.
Review 34:I know they are gradually updating the place... It does not look nice from the road..and there are several areas that need a redo... But by no means would I not stay! I also have mixed feelings about that.
Review 35:Old world charm. This hotel actually wants you to stay on site by providing an at home/cottage type atmosphere. For me it was great to be able to grill out and bring meals with you b/c if not we would not be able to afford a stay here and go out for meals. There is no sneaking of food and beverage into your room! And they have ovens, tools for cooking ,even foil if you needed it.( we are campers so we already had those things). You can also get the feeling of being a family business workers very friendly and work very hard! I feel they really care about the place and the pple they serve. A dying breed of work ethic here. I also was fortunate to get a rm with a new mattress ! It was the best! I seriously want one for myself!
Review 36:The fan in the bathroom was buzzing when turned on. Also the a/c made noise every time it turned on. Did not sleep well :(
Review 37:Good location and friendly staff.
Review 38:No complaints
Review 39:layout of the property is excellent.Lots of extras for the kids ie. toys, rafts, volleyball etc. The staff was very friendly and were eager to make us feel comfortable.
Review 40:Rooms and bathrooms need updating. Towels and bedding were so-so. For the price, I expected more. No one offered to help us with our bags up two flights of stairs and there's no elevator.
Review 41:Location was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 42:Nothing really! I think that tubs/showers should be next to be updated but the vanity in the bathroom was new and the room was freshly painted.
Review 43:The location was wonderful and the hotel had its own beach with both a sandy area and a grassy area with ample chairs and tables. The room was spacious and the furniture was updated. Our 2nd floor room had a balcony facing the lake and a mini-fridge, both big pluses!
Review 44:too far from downtown. Had to take taxi's. The stay was not worth $350+. For $50 more I could've stayed at The Holiday Inn and next time I will spend the extra $50.
Review 45:The staff were all very friendly.
Review 46:Room and bathroom very small, breakfast was not good. The coffee tasted like water and the bagel were hard. Paying over 350$ a night is ridic for this place.
Review 47:Beach and lake in front of our room
Review 48:Smelled musty! Air conditioner made loud buzzing noise! Kept waking me up when it turned on at night! TV screen messed up, toilet bowl dirty under rim!!!! Yuk when I told front desk ... They said thanks for letting us know! That was it!!!
Review 49:Breakfast, location right on beach/ Lake!!!
Review 50:breakfast was little disappointing In general is good but price high based on what they are offering
Review 51:Staff very friendly and helpful, location is nice near downtown nice bay view Location is clean , very quiet Nice guests .you can enjoy sunset peacefully
Review 52:The room lacked a little cleanliness, there was an earring back on the floor behind the toilet. And 1 of the bedside stands had a opened box of condoms in a walgreens bag.
Review 53:I loved the location and the beach area was so clean.
Review 54:Limited breakfast menu, cereal and oatmeal options were all with sugar. No ketchup or hot sauce with the egg or sausage and no fruit.
Review 55:The hosts Josh and Tonya! They were always there, friendly and helpful. They took even the smallest request seriously, excellent service. The location was excellent, the private beach was the cleanest, the boat rental was next door and gave a discount to the hotel guests. Safe and homely in a good way. The outdoor grill was wonderful.
Review 56:Was a little expensive but would definitely go there again.
Review 57:Loved that all rooms faced the beach and that there were plenty of lawn chairs for everyone to use at the beach. The breakfasts were great. Staff was always pleasant and went out of there way to help.
Review 58:The price of our room was excessive based on the age and condition of the facility. Other hotels with beechfront locations and similar amenities were 30%-50% less.
Review 59:Location and friendliness of the hotel manager.
Review 60:Our room was a little small for the four of us and all our stuff. Not a deal breaker.
Review 61:Very clean everywhere, inside and out. Wonderful friendly staff. We appreciated to beach chairs, picnic tables, gas grill. Just a mini fridge in the room but free coffee 24 hours/ day. They even let us use the oven in the common area.
Review 62:An upgrade with the towels would be nice.
Review 63:The Beach Haus was a nice place to stay. The location with perfect! The beach area and lawn was very nice and well kept.
Review 64:Some staff/owners? unfriendly younger attendants friendly as well as older gentlemen preparing breakfast. Walls a little thin as you can hear talking easily in the hall.
Review 65:updated decor
Review 66:The walk out access to the beach, the private patio, the availability of the BBQ grill and the extra trimmings that were available! The staff was also helpful in what to see, where to go and how to get there.
Review 67:Only thing i didnt like is the shower. Its soo tiny
Review 68:The location of this hotel is amazing. From the front i thought i dont know if ill be staying here but then once you see the rooms and the back it changes everything. Definately the best on the block
Review 69:Nothing bad, just little frustrations like very small breakfast room, no outlets for electronic devices in room, no place for toiletries in bathroom, etc. Short time for breakfast, didn't open till 7:30.
Review 70:Location was great.. Clise to trail, right on the beach, and easy drive to area towns. Staff were friendly and the room was clean.
Review 71:People down stairs smoked in room and in deck, house tried to stop them but they were sneaky . We wanted to enjoy our water sunset too!
Review 72:Like back in the past , family friendly , board game and beach games in the sand .
Review 73:We were a bit disappointed that breakfast was not ready at the times advertised.
Review 74:The owners and staff were delightful and did their very best to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
Review 75:Wifi didnt work in the rooms.
Review 76:The owners were wonderful and very helpful! The beach area was well maintained and nicer than most in that area. Although the hotel was a little dated we would return with no hesitation.
Review 77:I liked the location, right on the beach. The staff was very friendly. Surprised at how good the breakfast was, especially the Bob Evans sweet rolls.
Review 78:The family owned hotel had a very cozy-feel with a beautiful view. We enjoyed watching both the sunset and sunrise from the balcony. The beach was quiet but fun, with toys, bocce ball, and other games provided.
Review 79:Nothing wrong with the place.
Review 80:We loved it, we wished we could have stayed a second night, but they were totally booked. We watched sunset right from our room.
Review 81:The hotel is a short drive (~5 min from downtown Traverse City), which isn't far but would be nice to be walking distance to Front Street. I was nervous about the accommodations based on the exterior of the hotel, but the inside seemed newly renovated and was very clean!
Review 82:The hotel is right on the water, provides grills to guests and the staff was very accommodating to ensure a comfortable stay!
Review 83:Nothing major. Doorwall didn't lock but did come with something to keep it shut from inside. Microwave only available in common area, not in room. Limited parking but enough.
Review 84:Good location, great beach, lots of outdoor area to enjoy. Older place but updated with the important features and friendly staff. Delicious cookies at 8pm :)
Review 85:The Beach Haus is a gem! Stellar location and a great atmosphere just can't be beat! Add in wonderful staff, super clean rooms and did I mention the location?
Review 86:Outdated rooms and dirty patio space. The patios were carpeted, plus years or rain/snow/dirt = not so good looking carpet to walk on. But that was fine because we didn't really sit there anyways.
Review 87:The location was just right, far enough from downtown to avoid crowds, but still a very easy drive. The private beach was nice and having your own patio was a plus. There weren't a lot of kids running around and screaming.
Review 88:Room on front of the building was noisy because of the traffic. Pricey for a regular style room. A/c was buzzing all night.
Review 89:One of the cleanest rooms we've ever stayed in!
Review 90:Our shower/tub wouldn't drain-but that's it
Review 91:The location was perfect! The room was nice, glad there was a refrigerator, plus an available microwave if needed. The breakfast was a pleasant surprise! Staff was friendly and accommodating! Beach was great!!
Review 92:Wifi is poor because of the concrete walls. The hotel is dated--needs updates. Decor has not changed in literally 30 years. Need more sustainable practices--places to hang and reuse towels, paper cups instead of styrofoam, glasses in room to use for drinking water, etc.
Review 93:Location is superb. Staff is friendly. Close proximity to beach. Rooms are clean.
Review 94:I love the view from the balcony. nicest beach area in the the whole surrounding area. Love the volleyball net and the games they had for the kids. felt like you were at a resort when you went outside.
Review 95:I wasn't sure of the cable stations, couldn't find a guide, and the remote guide/menu didn't provide what stations there were, and the aspect ratio was off, the image was stretched and I couldn't figure out how to fix it, if it's possible via the remote.
Review 96:The staff was amazing. Everyone was so helpful and sweet and kind. Above and beyond the call of duty. The breakfast was well planned. Also loved the vanilla aroma in the stairways.:)
Review 97:There was no coffee service in the room. There were no elevators, so you have to schlep your own baggage up and down stairs.
Review 98:The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was right on the beach, so if I was able to spend time by the water it was very convenient.
Review 99:unusable Wi-Fi no coffee-maker
Review 100:Comfy bed, spa tube right next to it, fridge, layout of room are very nice, lakeside view, personal yard, nice & clean beach, friendly staff. Romantic vibe overall compare to any other hotels in this region, and great for the money.
Review 101:Hotel itself is very old, all the furnishings are new but the textured plaster and painted plywood trim makes the hotel look/feel dated.
Review 102:You can't beat the view of Grand Traverse Bay! The staff was extremely friendly.
Review 103:Wi-fi bad, but in their defense, they indicate this in the room. Older hotel, brick walls, etc., so wi-fi is really slow.
Review 104:The beach is great. Loved the quaintness of the place. Not your run of the mill cookie cutter chain.
Review 105:I loved the view and having our own private balcony. I liked the smallness of the hotel and the rooms were great. I would recommend it to friends and would come again myself.
Review 106:The bathroom could stand a little updating. It was nice and clean so there is really nothing negative.
Review 107:It was right on the water and had a nice beach. Even though there were hotels on each side it felt like you were in your own little paradise. There were plenty of sand chairs, lounge chairs and tables to sit around and relax. There was a great little gazebo to sit in with your morning coffee. The rooms were very clean. The staff was extra friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay there the next time I visit Traverse City.
Review 108:As other reviews mention, it is a little outdated, but I think it adds to the character of the place and it still has all of the amenities that you would need. I think the staff, breakfast, and location make up for it being a little less modern than some of the nearby hotels.
Review 109:The staff at the Beach Haus were some of the friendliest and most helpful hotel staff I've ever interacted with. They went out of their way to make us feel at home during our stay. The breakfast also had a good variety, and the apple cinnamon muffins were delicious! The location right on the beach was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this hotel, and plan on coming back the next time I am in Traverse City.
Review 110:Small parking lot- no problem since we visited out of season. Hallway carpet needed replaced, but new owners said they were repainting and replacing carpet over the winter shutdown.
Review 111:Older resort, not modern cookiecutter motel. Great staff and owners actually work the desk. Great view of T Bay from room.
Review 112:I reserved a king bed for me and my girlfriend, and we were given two queen beds. It was awkward. Also, the airconditioner wouldn't work. We tried various times, and no luck. Also, everything is from the 70's
Review 113:The cookies were amazing! The view was great, and the beds were awesome!
Review 114:Your towels were like drying off with a burlap sack. Your soap and shampoo created NO lather when used, (very hard water?) Stained carpeting in your hallways. Can't justify 100.00 for a one night stay here.No actual breakfast room to eat in, just a hallway.
Review 115:Bed was comfortable.
Review 116:No elevator that I saw.
Review 117:The room was spacious. The king size bed was extremely large and comfortable. The garden tub was amazing. The TV was a good size for the room and had cable. The room had nice appliances and a blow dryer. Overall: very good place to stay on the water. Highly recommend.
Review 118:This place should have been remodeled 40 years ago and then again 20 years ago. It looks like nothing has been done there in 40 years. The carpets in the hallway were filthy, rooms were extremely old and in need of repairs. Had to take the lid off the toilet every time we wanted to flush it, bathroom fan was from the 1960s in very noisy. There continental breakfast was in the hallway leading to the outside with no place to sit (no wonder the carpets were filthy everybody has to carry their food and drink back to the rooms and it looks like everybody has built trying to do this).
Review 119:Great location
Review 120:Old and tired. Musty and musky. Room was too dimly lit to tell if it was clean. Very high priced for its (lack of) quality. Took it because there was nothing open for our date.
Review 121:nothing
Review 122:We had asked for a late checkout of a hour later and was told there was nothing that could be done. We even said we would pay and still no go.
Review 123:It was easy to come n good. Right on the beach and was a lot to do within walking distance.
Review 124:Needs to be updated. It felt very run down and not worth the expense. The carpet just in the upstairs hall outside our room was so bad it just gave you the feeling that you where in a cheap hotel, not a $200 a night hotel. We picked it for the view but quite honestly could have gone across the street to the Motel 6 for $100 less and stayed in a nicer room.
Review 125:It was a nice location and a great view.
Review 126:Small bathroom and no iron or ironing board in the room, although one was available on the second floor that we had to get and return. The Wi-Fi was not good and would go in and out because of concrete walls (they said).
Review 127:The location on the bay
Review 128:A spacious room, great breakfast & coffee aroma, in room optimal warm temperature, excellent view of Lake Michigan with peaceful waves one day and agitated waves the next. Hospitable hosts. Thank you
Review 129:I know it's representing an old world chalet but the bathroom was very small and could use alittle more vanity space.
Review 130:The view was beautiful and management was very helpful.
Review 131:When we entered the hallway the carpets were stained, it seemed that there hadn't been new carpet in the hotel for a long time. There also seemed to be no updates in this hotel for a long time. The power went out in our room starting at 2:30 a.m. and my husband has to use his sleep apnea machine. He had to get up and find the hotel person, the office was closed, to get the power turned back on, this happened again in the night and he had to do the same thing. The power also continued to do the same when we woke up, making it hard to blow dry my hair, etc. etc. and we were going to a conference. I'm sorry to say that I would never return there because Josh who worked there was so apologetic, and felt so bad about our experience. He said that that has never happened before, that this was the first time the electricity went out. They did return our money and Josh was kinder than ever. He made this disappointment into something we could leave with a smile on our faces. I would hire him with any business-such an asset!
Review 132:There was a staff member named Josh who was very attentive, kind, compassionate and worked real hard to correct the things that he could. He was awesome and made all the disappointments not sting so much!
Review 133:Needs updating-old furniture holes in couch refrigerator/microwave should be in a cabinet/enclosed ants/flees in bathroom
Review 134:Location View Breakfast
Review 135:bed was like a rock. Back ache city. bath could have been laid out better. toilet seat was loose (we told maintenance so Im sure that's fixed by now) the TP dispenser was installed so that if you're seated, the dispenser is pressing against your side. could mount it on the facing wall and correct the situ. Second story has no elevator or bell hop service, so if you have bad knees/hips be forewarned you'll be humping your stuff up stairs on your own.
Review 136:staff was friendly, was nice being right on the water
Review 137:The room decor is older and had dirty carpet.
Review 138:Excellent location, view, and breakfast spread. Also really liked the availability of coffee 24 hours a day!
Review 139:Liked everything. No complaints. Perhaps the street noise, like there were a lot of sirens would be my only real complaint. Would have LOVED a coffee maker in my room--if only to heat my water for hot tea. But, everything else was super. Thanks.
Review 140:Loved the "family feeling" and being so close to the beach. The room I stayed in was a nonsmoking king room with a balcony and a sweet view of the East Traverse Bay. Very quaint and quiet!
