Reviews for Boarders Inn and Suites of Traverse City

Review 1:Your staff was awesome, your rates great. I had a map of Traverse City but wasn't detailed, the young man at the front desk have me a much better map while chatting about the good places to eat, just a very friendly environment he created by spending time and energy to go the extra mile.

Review 2:Liked everything

Review 3:Very clean, friendly staff, amazing clean room, slept like a baby. Awesome breakfast even had sugar free syrup. I m a diabetic and was very pleased

Review 4:It wasn't fancy by any means, but it eras clean and the staff was nice

Review 5:Requested a first floor room and ended up being upgraded for the same price.

Review 6:There were a few things left behind from guest prior to us (pants and fortune cookies in drawer). But could see how they missed them when cleaning

Review 7:Loved location and price

Review 8:They really got chintzy on breakfast, we booked a room withan additional crib for our baby and then they had no crib for us. We had to pay for a cot which he couldnt sleep in. The rooms heater did not work. There was not hot water. We were seriously disappointed this time.

Review 9:We always stay here. Theyre decently priced. Theyve improved their bath supplies, towels, and bedding.

Review 10:The carpet and furnishings of the common areas, such as halls and elevator, could use some updating.

Review 11:The room was large, clean and in good repair. The staff were polite. The hotel was located close to my business event. The costs were fair.

Review 12:Very old style, needs updating. Not very inviting, old smell. Not staying again until updating.

Review 13:Comfortable bed, nice location, good continental breakfast.

Review 14:Clean, decent, everything we needed. Nothing fancy but if you aren't going to be in your room much it's fine. Room was a good size for two of us.

Review 15:Toilet kept running. Mechanism in tank cracked and kept sticking. We had to mess with it. Shouldn't have had to do that. First room had rumpled sheets and pillow cases as if slept on. Second room good. No chair at table.

Review 16:Bed very comfortable

Review 17:Not much of a continental breakfast. Didn't expect so with a 2 star rate. Found a few ants in room. One in bed. Old furniture.

Review 18:Bed was comfy. Lots of pillows. Restaurants nearby. Price was fair

Review 19:We don't like the city, so we didn't like the traffic even though it wasn't down in the middle of things.

Review 20:Bed was very comfortable, breakfast, and not in the middle of town.

Review 21:Terrible lighting. Small TV--not easy to watch from the beds which were on opposite sides of the room. Strange room layout. Put in a handicapped room, although we did not need it or request it.

Review 22:Friendly desk staff--accommodating.

Review 23:I was quoted on booking.com for 109$ and it ended up being 134$ for the room. Other then that it was a nice stay.

Review 24:I liked how we were upgraded to another room free of charge.

Review 25:1. Website was miss-leading...no lake shore view; no exercise room. 2. couch was excessively hard 3. fireplace did not work

Review 26:they offered a free upgrade...but....

Review 27:Bathroom needs upgrading. Very scruffy looking. Asked for a 1:00 pm checkout & had to pay additional $25 and this was AFTERr having to go to emergency room and returned after hotel checkout time. Clerk was NOT understanding

Review 28:Near beach & places to eat. Small clean room & quiet

Review 29:Great value for the price. Comfortable, clean room with king size beds, ample coverings and more than enough pillows. Pets allowed for a nominal fee and free breakfast included.

Review 30:Didn't like that our room overlooked the parking lot of the out-of-business Hooters.

Review 31:Excellent price, right on the strip with the much more expensive hotels. Great room, great location, great price.

Review 32:It's just a basic older hotel

Review 33:Very nice staff, hotel was completely booked and completely quiet- we weren't disturbed at all ( even with lots of families).

Review 34:Person at front counter never spoke. Did not necessarily make me feel he cared we were there or not. Bathroom pretty small. Cost was high for what we got.

Review 35:Room was relatively clean. No hassles.

Review 36:Not clean, old looking, people that greeted us made us feel we were interrupting their conversation. Never said thank for for coming even when we checked out. Breakfast was terrible, hard muffins, coffee very very strong

Review 37:Location

Review 38:Room was very dusty. The phone in the room looked as if it had never been touched. Spider webs on the wall up near the ceiling. All the fixtures and furnishings were quite dated and appeared original to the building. Not what I expected for a $200.00 + per night stay. I am not a novice traveler. I spend up to nine weeks on the road in the US and internationally, so I have a reasonable basis of comparison. If you are considering Boarders, do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to stay in Traverse City, MI. There are plenty of other choices at more reasonable prices.

Review 39:Friendly staff, and location.

Review 40:I was surprised at how "tired" the property was. The lighting dim, carpets old, general dinghy quality through out, including rooms, lobby & hallways. For the price I expected better. Small lobby that included breakfast, but very cramped.

Review 41:The location was near restaurants and long walking distance or short drive to a public beach. I like the waffle maker at breakfast & fridge in the room & ice makers near the elevator.

Review 42:The elevator and entrance needed cleaning. The front desk clerk on checkin was confused and never got the billing correct. I had reserved tworooms with two different names. Fortunately the other couple was arelative and we settled up later...but not a good start!

Review 43:Room was clean and comfortable.

Review 44:The sheets and pillow cases had pet hair on them. The shower tub had dark mildew everywhere. Dog food was found in our room on carpet. The carpets throughout the entire facility were FILTHY. It's priced so far beyond its value. We were so uncomfortable to touch ANYTHING, that we used a blanket from our vehicle, and a car pillow. It was disgusting. I would never stay there again, or recommend it to any person I know.

Review 45:Lots of old people here. Probably better off to rent a bike from the bike rental just down the street.

Review 46:Very pleasant property and staff. The King rooms was spacious. The luggage transfer from the ferry was faultless.

Review 47:Breakfast over and all locked up by 10am on a Sunday? Nocomplimentary coffee anywhere in site on the main floor? Garbagepiled up in the hallways? Elevator looked like it hadn't beenvacuumed and/or wiped down in the past few years. No pool.Outdated, filthy, and expensive. Had to call the front desk to'reserve/request' an iron and ironing board! Verydisappointed after paying $220 for the night

Review 48:They had no problem with a late check out ... probably because no onewanted to check in :(

Review 49:It was pretty expensive for what it was. I would have expected to pay that if we were right by down town. It didn't even have pool for the price.

Review 50:The staff was very friendly and always helpful. The location was pretty nice as well, being close to the water and not too far from town.

Review 51:Very noisy. We went to breakfast one out of 3 days because when we went the first day there was barely anything left and it was very messy. Very small bathroom sink with no counter space. We were over charged and still don't know if that has been corrected.

Review 52:Hotel stops breakfast at 9 AM on weekdays and the lady closing the breakfast was rude by saying she had to then clean 18 rooms. My kids and I were at breakfast eating while she removed the breakfast with at least 8 people still eating. The woman then stated that 9 am shutdown was normal for the other hotels along the lake drive. Next time, I will stay at the Best Western and enjoy breakfast without the rude remarks.

Review 53:Not much. No pool.

Review 54:Dirty dirty dirty. Needed vacuuming in the elevator. Extremely stained carpeting in the halls. The bathroom had a persons long hair on the floor. Didn't stay for the free breakfast as concerned the prep was as bad as housekeeping.

Review 55:Location and pet friendly.

Review 56:the staff was friendly and very helpful. We were in town for the TCFF and our stay worked about beautifully! Nothing fancy but it gets the job done and would certainly stay again!

Review 57:It was fine. Not posh, no luxury, very dated decor but suited our needs for the night.

Review 58:I originally reserved a king room for two but had to change to 2 queens for 4 guests. They were very gracious in accommodating our changes, even though they were very busy and did so happily. THANKS!

Review 59:It wasn't a $200 room, but I recognize that it was a busy weekend at a prime location.

Review 60:It was within reasonable driving distance of restaurants and some beaches.

Review 61:A lot of road noise from outside-I was in #306,sort of near the north end of the building near US31-not sure what can be done though.

Review 62:Clean-ample parking-nice bed

Review 63:Just about everything. We checked in, and went out for dinner. When wegot back to room the bathroom was flooded and there was a stream ofwater running from the ceiling above. They moved us to another roomwhere the lock did not lock and the microwave would start running all onits own. Then, because they had double booked, they had to move us toanother room the next day. The coffee in the morning had a very thickfilm on the top... For this reason did not try any of the food. Theentire building could use updating and maintenance

Review 64:The beds were newer and very comfortable. The staff was reasonable andworked with us. The owner should be ashamed and should start puttingsome money back into the building. Or lower their fees so that they canmanage expectations which is a very low budget dump of a hotel.

Review 65:Staff members were friendly and check-in was simple and quick. We were there just for an overnight stay between backpacking and kayaking. The overall experience was good for the low price.

Review 66:Our key wasn't working and it took a great amount of time to find a staff member to assist us. The person working the desk was outdoors. On our second night the room next door was smoking dope so our room ended up pretty smelly. It was a rough night.

Review 67:The town itself was awesome

Review 68:The minute I walked in the room it stunk like body odor worse than any locker room I have ever been in. I opened the window and left for dinner and came back and hour and a half later and still the stench was not gone. It was getting late and I did not feel like looking for a different room so I thought I would turn on the air conditioner only to see behind the wooden panelinstill the stench was not gone. It was getting late and I did not feel like looking for a different room so I thought I would turn on the air conditioner only to see behind the wooden paneling was tons of black mold. We promptly left.

Review 69:The girl at the front counter was extremely friendly and helpful when asking for my money back and canceling my reservation.

Review 70:no bad experiences!

Review 71:the staff was very friendly and efficient; you were given a coupon book upon checking in that had many very nice coupons from local vendors. The breakfast was great!

Review 72:Staff not the most professional, dress not appropriate for reception of travelers, not the most friendly I've experienced in all my travels.

Review 73:Comfortable place to stay, very clean

Review 74:We had our initial room and had an infestation of some sort. The problem was addressed and we were moved to a different room.

Review 75:The coffee was excellent and the staff was very nice.

Review 76:They told me my 2010 Camaro SS was too loud. Staff wanted to throw something at my car...why, I don't know. Very unproffesional! Not REALLY pet friendly. They complained I had a puppy.

Review 77:Location...thats it!

Review 78:If there is ANYTHING to add, we'd have liked a meat with the breakfast, but waffles were terrific!

Review 79:Staff seemed really friendly and wanting to please us.

Review 80:Pet could not stay in room for a few hours while we shopped or went out for meals.I thought $15.00 extra was a bit much to be able to have our pet stay especially since when we leave the pet has to go with us.I understand that its not the responsibility of the motel to take care of animals, but I do think after the room has been cleaned that the people should be able to leave the pets for 2-3 hours at a time I know our dog would not potty in a few hours time.

Review 81:Cleanliness, friendly staff, Location- very easy to find place we wanted to see. off season value super great.

Review 82:Didn't appreciate a dog boarding on the 3rd floor, running back and forth for hours, torturing those on the 2nd floor. Would have made more sense to put pets on the 1st floor.

Review 83:Location was close to the heart of downtown. The staff was friendly and sympathetic to my complaints about the dog situation.

Review 84:I arrived with a two night stay and the room they initially put me in smelled like a smokers room. They switched me to another room and I asked for an upgrade and they said sure for a fee. I Said look at your sign outside, it says vacancy $40 a night. I was paying $80 a night because I pre-booked.

Review 85:The location and breakfast was ok.

Review 86:not much, some noisy neighbors late at night but they quieted down and keep in mind people that that's not really a hotel's fault.

Review 87:location is nice for getting out to destinations quickly

Review 88:The facility is a bit dated. There is no pool or hot tub area, and the complimentary breakfast lacked choice, but was otherwise fine. Bathroom cleanliness was a factor, probably based on the dated appearance. We noticed mildew in some seams around the shower panels.

Review 89:The Boarders Inn and Suites is well located for visiting downtown Traverse City and the Mission Point wineries. There are several good restaurants close by and just a 10 minute drive to the downtown area, and all of the dinning and shopping options there. The staff is friendly and efficient, the beds are comfortable, and the room rate is a good value compared to other nearby hotels.

Review 90:a lil out of the way to get to the zombie run event.......just got to get up earlier......lol

Review 91:it was a clean room and just what we needed for our stay. cleaning staff gave us all a lil more time to shower and get out....thanx

Review 92:Walls were thin, so they was substantial noise from the second floor, hall and adjacent room.

Review 93:It is located close to a lot of the places that we were going. Easy to find and enter in and out.

Review 94:Got billed for more than we should have. Continental breakfast was literally muffins yogurt and milk. Bathroom was dirty. Just not what we expected in comparison to similar places in the area.

Review 95:Good location.

Review 96:Traffic noise/lights from main road.

Review 97:Fairly spacious bathroom, comfortable beds, adequate breakfast choices, plenty of parking, easy to find. Good value stopover for Sleeping Bear Dunes. Unfortunately we did not have time to check out the beach here.

Review 98:The desk clerk looked freakish. The foyer was ugly, with all chairs upside down on the breakfast tables. Purell dispensers on the wall outside the elevator on all floors. (Really??? Ugh.)The bathroom smellled of urine, and the shower was so disgusting we didn't even shower before we left. The room was very obviously run down, with chips missing from the dresser. We didn't partake of the 'breakfast' either. Yuck. This place needs upgrading, cleaning, and employees that care about the guests. ~This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at during our week vacation, and it was by far the worst! We will not be back.

Review 99:The only thing I liked was the tiny peek of Lake Michigan from my window.

Review 100:Loud group of teenagers squealed until 12:30 am. I tried to get desk staff to intervene but they were either unsuccessful or didn't try.

Review 101:Breakfast included HB eggs, yogurt and fresh fruit.

Review 102:Found some little beetle like insects in the bathroom and then after that noticed them in hallways and stairs. Not cockroaches, but still not pleasant.

Review 103:Good location and reasonably priced.

Review 104:Lack of pool/hot tub - Indoor Pillows - flat Bed - OK (earwig in bed :-( )

Review 105:Convenient Location Complimentary Breakfast Super friendly employees! They should be commended!!!

Review 106:couldnt get into our room had to call for manager if we needed to leave. took over 20 mins. to get into the room . sheets were not changed, stains all over sheets and comforter. bathtub was not clean and there were problems with it.

Review 107:ill never stay there again. i thought we would have gotten a discount but we didnt.

Review 108:Old, run-down and dirty. Rooms were old, small and crowded. Bathroom needed a good scrubbing.

Review 109:Desk guy was nice, location wasn't too bad and it was quiet

Review 110:The staff (with exception of cleaning ladies) was not friendly. The front desk people never acknowledged us, let alone said hello when we would walk by. You get what you pay for, I guess.

Review 111:The bed was very comfortable. It was good to have fan to drown out any outside noise.

Review 112:old apple core under the bed, lobby computer for customer use was not working. Located right off of US Hwy, though ventilation system and room facing off the street helped reduce traffic noise problem.

Review 113:pleasant staff, adequate breakfast, close to putt-putt golf and great family restaurants, big flat screen TV, nice firm mattress. Would stay there again

Review 114:Tubs/showers could have been much cleaner or redone. They should really havering fridges in each room!

Review 115:Beds were nice and waffles were awesome for breakfast

Review 116:Only one packet of "real" coffee and there were two of us. TV remote didn't work to turn on tv or for volume.

Review 117:Nice coffee maker Great gadget to charge all our gadgets

Review 118:The overall decor was a bit shabby and dated. I have never stayed at a hotel that didn't at least have an iron and ironing board in the room, glad I had a colleague in the area who offered assistance. I suppose I got what I paid for; lesson learned.

Review 119:Location.

Review 120:The room rate was very high for what little there was. The shower was warm at the highest temperature. I paid the same rate the night before at a different hotel. I had a beach front view, refrigerator and microwave. I know I paid an elevated rate because its tourist season but I expected a little more for my money. If you need a place to stay and there is nothing available, this is the place. Friendly staff and clean facility.

Review 121:The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.

Review 122:Air conditioner very loud. Tub of floor not the cleanest. Stained w. dirt. Coffee aka hot colored water. lol try it!

Review 123:You had openings. Like having breakfast included but it is still a no frills hotel. kids would of liked a pool but your price was right... well sort of. We stayed at Bridge vista beach hotel marine city for same price and that had indoor waterpark and balcony on beach.& full free breakfast.

Review 124:Room was small. When you sat on the toilet you realize it was tipped to one side, not level. While you were in the shower the floor boards creaked as if the floor would cave in and you'd crash down to the floor below. Our room was not cleaned (we stayed two days) which I could live with but even the trash wasn't emptied and our wet towels remained on the floor. We did have prompt delivery of towels when we called the desk. The toilet didn't flush well and became plugged. It was embarrassing to have to call for help on that issue. Room could use a mini refrigerator. Also the free breakfast is from 6 a.m. to 9 am only. It should go on longer, some guests may want to sleep later. The walls are apparently thin-we arrived at 11pm and got a call from the desk immediately that we were noisy. We were speaking in normal voices and moving around the room unpacking. I cannot believe we got that call. As a hotel guest I understand that noises carry and I am not quick to complain about others. We are a family, mom, dad and a 18 yr old and 12 year old kid with us. We weren't having a party. The elevator was rickety and dirty. Yes it was one of the more reasonably priced hotels but it was still expensive. I want a hotel to be clean and in good repair.

Review 125:Location is good. TV good. Parking ok. It's hard to exit the parking lot during rush hour.

Review 126:It was a bit dated and the walls seemed thin, which made it noisy at times.

Review 127:It was a good no-frills hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly.

Review 128:Bathroom tub was a little sketchy Maybe some up dates would be good Room price...could be a little less

Review 129:Location was good Easy check in For the most part clean They except AARP Overall stay...Good I would stay again

Review 130:Bathroom was in poor condition and tub was stained and needed replacement. Hallway carpet was dirty and worn.

Review 131:Bed was very comfortable and carpet seemed new and clean.

Review 132:The staff was very friendly to us and our dogs.We had a great time. And it was a road from the lake. Awesome.

Review 133:Good lacation is close to highway. I got used to the noise quickly.

Review 134:Convient local, great service, terrific price.

Review 135:The elevator needs new carpet and paint.

Review 136:Very well priced hotel. The breakfast area was stocked superbly & had variety.

Review 137:Loud people getting off elevator late. You have no way to control that though.

Review 138:Clean bathroom.

Review 139:There was no closet in room. No chair in the room. The phone didn't work.

Review 140:The Staff was friendly.
