Reviews for Refugio Da Praia Turismo Rural Casa De Campo
Review 1:We arrived early and had a very unfriendly greeting. We were not invited to wait in the common area or leave our luggage and go for a walk. We have never been made to feel like we need to leave and come back later but that's what we did. Upon retuning a more friendly person greeted us. There were many rules and we felt like we were being watched to see if we obeyed them. It is the first time we have been told we could not bring food or beverage into our room. We had a small patio and chairs outside our door but could not have a glass of wine that we had bought. He insisted we buy everything from them. Breakfast was at 9 am, much too late for us. We asked if we could have coffee earlier but were told we had to wait until 9am - end of conversation. We seek out small, local places because we enjoy interacting with our hosts. This is a lovely location but we did not feel welcomed and that is unfortunate as it means as much to us as location.
Review 2:Gorgeous location
Review 3:Overpriced for what it ofers, the great view it's not worthy of this price relation. The idea of having three chained dogs at the entrance for security reasons it's primitive and big no go!
Review 4:Great place, great view for one and only one romantic night!
Review 5:If I had to point something, which I don't feel the need, maybe furniture and WC could use some upgrade, but it's Alentejo and rural accommodation, not the Hilton Hotel. -)
Review 6:Unique, there are not many (if any) spot and accommodation like this one, just in front of the sea and far from the public light which allows to take the chance to see the star sky at night.
Review 7:Outstanding location. The house is so nice, extremely well maintained and the room was cleaned and all comfort you would not even expect. Nice welcome, discreet people. Wifi... Also the restaurant on the beach near by was very good. We can only recommend if you want to live something different from regular hotels.
Review 8:The owner of the property could be a bit more friendly, seems that you had to be Portuguese for him to even say hello or engage in any conversation other than checking in. 250 euros for two nights and barely an hello during our stay or a goodbye when we were leaving seemed a bit discourteous and that they had started to empty our room when we were still sitting in the car in front of the house seemed just rude. The three dogs on the property can become quiet annoying sometimes with barking. If you are staying in the superior double, be aware that the sea view is quite limited, more a view of a rough garden and washing line. The room is in a separate building though so it does give a bit more privacy and freedom as the door of the main house is locked at midnight we were told. We weren't told on checking in that the two bigger tables at the front of the house (with a real sea view), could only be used for having a beer or glass of wine if you bought it from the owner himself and that you couldn't sit with your own, at 125 euro a night I thought that was a bit poor. We were told they were simply for guests to use, we weren't even aware there was an option to buy anything. Also, to be told by the owner by knocking on the window to us when we were about to sit to more or less go back to our garden view room that this is not an apartment resort or buy it from him felt more like a scolding than a polite explanation. A suggestion to the owner, move the patio furniture away from the only light, attracts everything to just above your head and gets quite uncomfortable. WiFi will only work for the superior double room if you stand out on the patio for the couple of times we needed it, still poor connection though.
Review 9:Location. Not another house on the coast in that area like it as far as we could see. Great spot just to get away, literally yards from the beach. The house is quite isolated and ideal just to relax. Who I think was the owner's wife seemed quite nice and helpful, even through pigeon English conversation.
Review 10:Amazing place in the middle of a nature reserve! Private terrace with a beautiful view to the sea! 5 minutes walking to a beautiful and people-less beach! Snacks and drinks are avaibla at reasonable prices. As you can read in many reviews this is a very basic accommodation but it is definitely worth the price thanks to the beautiful view and a private terrace to enjoy it. It's a quiet place for those who want to escape the city haze.
Review 11:Went for an early morning walk and to have breakfast with the family that stayed at another location and when we came back to check out, they had already assumed we had left. We were charged for breakfast we didn't have.
Review 12:Amazing location, right in front of very quiet beach, perfect for a quiet relaxing time. Very basic and small room but ok for the 1 night we used it to just sleep.
Review 13:The location was beautiful, sitting right above the Atlantic. The rooms were rustic and charming. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our airlines had lost two of our bags and the staff made phone calls for us and helped us coordinate luggage and clothes replacement. They also had a very comfortable transfer van which is nice in an area where taxis are hard to come by. It is also sitting right in the Rota Vincentina, which we were walking, so very convenient for hikers.
Review 14:The family that live there seemed very put out by any requests that we made. The very small tv didn't work. We had to take cold showers. The internet is only in the main area and is so slow that it took five minutes to load my email. The bed is small and very uncomfortable. Any one of these things could be overlooked but all toghether they made for a terrible stay. We originally booked two days and we left after the first day because it was unacceptable. The owner had a chance to not charge us the second day but he chose instead to go ahead and charge us anyway. He has no idea what customer service is, which is too bad.
Review 15:This little place sits right on the beautiful beach.
Review 16:The road is not asphalted, so you need a good car. Mosquitos & other insects are included with the room.
Review 17:The house is inside a Protected Park area by the sea, very quit to sleep
Review 18:The location is absolutely breath-taking, the perfect place to start the Rota Vicentina from! The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They also let us leave our car there while we did 2 days of walking which was very helpful, and with the guard dogs we felt confident that it was safe & secure. Things to note: the wifi didn't work in the bedroom (although we knew that would be the case and it was great in the living room area), there are 3 dogs who guard the property but you don't have to go anywhere near them and we never heard them barking apart from when we arrived. It's not luxury accommodation but the bed was comfortable, room was clean, the bathroom was nice, and overall it really is about the location and traditional atmosphere with this place! We'd stay there again.
Review 19:Lovely view, lovely helpful staff, perfect place for people who want to have time of their own and just relax. Also perfect for couples to relax and have quality time together
Review 20:We came by bus, which drops you off in the middle of Porto Covo. There was no taxi, so it was a bit confusing how to get there, because the place is a bit out of town and hard to find, especially in the dark.
Review 21:Location was beautiful, remote and on the beach. You can make nice hikes from there. The breakfast is nice in the morning.
Review 22:Price is a bit pushed. The place is run by a familly, and unfortunately rather making it feel like YOUR home, many times you feel like being a guest is their home. The manager is dedicated, but sometimes it pushes too hard, borderline intrusive.
Review 23:Dream location! The house is very well arranged, the breakfast is great (continental type), comfort is adequate. You can walk to an (almost) private and amazingly beautiful beach. People are helpful and nice.
Review 24:Having to leave.
Review 25:If you are looking for 5 star accommodation this is not the place for you.If you want, however, a full frontal collision with nature and to fall asleep to the lull of the surf against the rocks then this astoundingly beautiful location might meet your requirements. It exceeded our expectations. How anyone can fault the establishment or the owners bewilders me.Luiz,Manuel and Pedro greeted us with great kindness and were always more than ready to supply any information that was asked of them. They were lovely. The rooms are sufficiently comfortable and the superior rooms are bigger, with the best views. Our standard room was lateral but still had a wonderful view. The beach directly infront of the refugio is not a beach, but directly to the left there is a little cove where bathing is possibile and then an endless stretch of sand which extends for 300 km.The little town of Porto Covo is a 6 km walk along the trail and a 10 minute drive by car..We shall return...for the place, for the people and for the way of life, unpretentious and authentic. Many thanks to the owners for making our stay so memorable,Rebecca.
Review 26:Difficult to find and get to with rough, unpaved roads.
Review 27:Very serene and beautiful property on the coast.
Review 28:Bed mattress very basic
Review 29:Loved the location above the Atlantic Ocean. No frills stay though clean, hot water, staff helpful.
Review 30:owner weirdoo..super secure ;)
Review 31:Location is amazing
Review 32:Difficult to find in the dark
Review 33:Beautiful location right on the seafront
Review 34:Rooms that do not have a beach view are expensive. A small room and mediocre shower
Review 35:Location. Beautiful beach e magnificent sunset.
Review 36:owner Should serve breakfast earlier than 9am to accommodate the hikers who want to leave early.
Review 37:Stunning view
Review 38:Most amazing location
Review 39:Superb location for sunset spotting. Very friendly and helpful staff
Review 40:The toilet was broken
Review 41:The location is magnificient
Review 42:As it was very close to Christmas, the owners had family visiting and we felt a bit like we were intruding on their holiday. Dinner was good but only soup and sandwich was offered.
Review 43:The ocean front room was fantastic, we stayed out on the terrace and watched the sunset while drinking wine, perfect
Review 44:The place was very hard to find, no signs. The host didn't appear very friendly. Having breakfast while host was working with his computer at the same table. Lots of rules that made it not very relaxing.
Review 45:The location. The view. The room very clean and tidy. Breakfast food very nice.
Review 46:rooms are understandably very humid, very basic room furniture, no prob for 1 night but for longer stays, not worth the price, felt somehow run down
Review 47:remote location, away from everything - which is nice for 1 night
Review 48:Breakfast selection should be wider compared to room rate per night.
Review 49:Location and view were perfect. Customer service was good. Really peaceful and beautiful.
Review 50:Until now, nothing to say!!!
Review 51:I like the simplicity, the hospitality and of course the sense of professionalism that we always have experience in every time we, me and my wife, stayed there!! And of course the spot, right in front of the ocean!! It's perfect!!!
Review 52:The beds were not too comfortable and the guest house had curfew and more rules that would be desired.
Review 53:The location is outstanding, only a few metres from the beach front. The family staff are friendly and happy to give all sorts of recommendations.
Review 54:Damp bed linen with dirty marks on it; stained, uncomfortable mattresses; no wardrobe; dirty drawers. The bathroom had not been properly cleaned and the shower cubicle still had water marks and dirt from previous guests, as well as black mould around the bottom. No plug in sink, nowhere to put toiletries, damaged mirror. We were told we'd have to call a Portuguese mobile number to be let in if we returned after around 10 or 11 pm (depending when the owners went to bed). The guesthouse is down more than a kilometre of dirt track, littered with large stones and potholes so bad you can only really drive at walking pace. We ended up with a puncture (which obviously we can't prove came from this but we've travelled extensively in Portugal and never had a problem before). There are three large, aggressive dogs chained up near the entrance that bark loudly and run towards anyone passing - this is alarming in the dark and makes coming and going unpleasant even for dog-loving adults (could be very frightening for children). Breakfast was extremely poor, with cold, low-quality coffee and jams that smelt and tasted stale. The nearest restaurant (which we found draughty and overpriced) is the other end of the track; the next good ones are in Porto Covo. In our opinion, the price is out of all proportion to the standard of accommodation provided. We were left feeling that this guesthouse is relying on its location rather attending to the quality of its own facilities, which are in dire need of improvement.
Review 55:Beautiful setting, fantastic sea views.
Review 56:Mobiliário do quarto
Review 57:Localização
Review 58:- wonderful setting - friendly and helpful owners
