Reviews for Yaroslav Hostel
Review 1:Not much English spoken here so foreign travellers should remember this. Also no doorbell by main door. I arrived at 0630 and had to wake the staff by calling them. Hostel has a cat which is great if you like cats but my dorm smelt a bit of cat litter. Also something bit me very badly in bed at night. They provide clean linen which I put on the bed myself but there could be bed bugs or fleas.
Review 2:The staff member who checked me in did not speak English but was extremely helpful and we were able to communicate with Google translate. Comfortable hostel with good WiFi and clean kitchen and toilets
Review 3:Not a bad experience but on two of my five nights there was a sporting event on the television in Russian so as you can imagine , it got pretty loud for a very long time. One of the nights in-between those two nights, a young couple and I were talking in conversational volume in English and we were told to please quiet down!!! Not exactly fair treatment.
Review 4:The location was great---you could see the building from the Kremlin and the windows in my room looked out onto the Yaroslav Court. The staff was very friendly but communication in English was limited (had to use "google translate" at times). Kitchen had almost everything you need except butter knives and small spoons but I carry my own so I was OK. Everything was all on one floor and only one flight of stairs to go up.
Review 5:The layout of the hostel: the kitchen is not separated from the sitting-room (with the TV always on) and even from the.. reception desk. %) All public space is basically one huge room.
Review 6:The hostel is half a minute walk from Yaroslav's Yard and the Old Bargaining place and is 5 min walk from the Bridge to the Kremlin. Has a bus going to the train station nearby and the staff is so kind as to help with its timetable.:) Also very useful: the hostel lets you leave your things at their place for the whole day after you have already checked-out.
Review 7:Unfortunately, a group of 4 semi-residents annoy the ladies and were very noisy during the latest night . When the hostel is full ( 30 guests ) , I'm not sure that the only 2 showers will be enough .
Review 8:The staff is very helpfull, friendly , effective . The small dining-room is cosy with a very kind cook .
Review 9:One room for 3 tolites and showers. VERY little or no English. Therefore it is difficult to get advice
Review 10:Good location, good value, good for a short stay
Review 11:Is not close by the train station. So to take the early train, you will need to do some early morning hiking.
Review 12:With aim to sleep in cheap end hostel it went over mine expectations. Good location, clean, good set up of facilities. The staff was super, even if google translate was needed for some clearance. Could borrow washing machine and washing powder.
Review 13:Staff were very friendly, but there was a bit of a language barrier. The girl who checked us in on the first night spoke enough English for it to go relatively smoothly, but the other girl we saw during our stay didn't speak any english at all. There was also often no one at the desk which was a little bit worrying. Luckily the tourist centre near the Kremlin were able to provide us with all the information we needed for our stay. It would have been good for the hostel to have maps of the area available. It seems like the dormitories are mostly full of men who live in the hostel, so I'm glad our (all female) group had a private room.
Review 14:Location of the hostel was quite good, just a quick walk across the footbridge to the Kremlin and city centre. We arrived quite late at night and the taxi driver had trouble finding the place, but after that we were all OK. Very walkable from the train station during the day. Don't give the driver more than RUB150 for the trip - that is the set fee for a trip inside the city centre and they'll try and get you to pay more. Rooms were decently clean and tidy, but a flyscreen would have been good. It was quite hot when we were there so we had to keep the windows open, but were eaten alive by mosquitoes. The bathrooms were mostly fine (two showers - busiest around midnight), but one of the showers was very clogged and I ended up almost having a bath! Would recommend for someone who only needs a place to sleep, as the place is very cheap and certainly seems safe. Not the best for socialising.
Review 15:No locker in 4 person room for valuables. No lock on door of 4 person room. Small kitchen area and can get over-crowded very quickly. Cleaning materials for guests were a bit grimey.
Review 16:Grigory was fantastic, speaks fantastic English and a genuinely nice and helpful guy. Other staff also friendly and smiley. Very close to the kremlin and supermarket. Beds comfortable and the 4 person room was very spacious. Other guests at the hostel. Excellent value for money.
Review 17:Although the staff may seem very kind in a first glace, the don't really care about you. When we gave our passports for check-in, the girl didn't want to give back our passport saying that she couldn in that moment make a copy, so that she would give us our passport later. Beside this we wanted a taxi for 5:30 am to the train station because our train would depart very early, and they said that everything would be fine, that they were used to call for taxi. And when need them the most, there wasn't no one to call for a taxi to us. In fact there wasn't anyone of the staff at all in the hostel!!! And we speak Russian! Can you imagine for a person whon doesn't knnow the language? Definitely it is a place where I'm not planning to go again to.
Review 18:The hostel is located very close to the Krmlin of the city, in a very calm and safe place. There are amazing churches near from the hostel and the atmosphere is amazing in the neiborhood. I definetly would recommend this hostel if the staff were made of professional people.
