Reviews for Victoria Railway Hotel & Gerrard's Restaurant

Review 1:Nothing.

Review 2:Great staff, super helpful with information on the area and things to do. Wonderful historic building with well equipped rooms. Location is in the middle of town but not on a main road so quiet.

Review 3:No bad experience, just woken quite early by the trains.

Review 4:The facade set the tone. A bright, friendly, comfortable hotel. The breakfast was excellent and Aaron went out of his way to help us settle. Highly recommend this hotel

Review 5:Apart from the décor being a little dated I have no negative things to say about the hotel.

Review 6:Aaron and Georgie were so helpful and very friendly. Because of them I would stay again. The rooms were clean and tidy.

Review 7:No complaints from us.

Review 8:We were met with a very warm welcome and were provided with some very helpful tips on where to visit and what to see in the town. The room was very clean and very comfortable. Two minutes walk to the heart of the town. Highly recommended.

Review 9:The hosts are very friendly and obliging. The building is old and has been fully restored while keeping it's charm and character. Gerrard's Restaurant and bar has great atmosphere. The restaurant is open weekdays as the hotel is quiet on weekends. This isn't a problem as there are some great restaurants less than a block away.

Review 10:My husband said he could hear the trains (it's the Railway Hotel after all) but I couldn't hear anything.

Review 11:We only stayed overnight before going to Stewart Island but the Hotel was warm comfortable and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 12:The hotel looks a little abandoned and was deathly quiet. Gave the impression that it was not well patronized.

Review 13:The Hotel is in a good location albeit opposite an old abandoned railway station with train noise. First impression is that its very lonely!!

Review 14:You could hear the snoring and the use of the toilet in the rooms next door :-(

Review 15:Excellent, friendly management. Even had the heater on in the room before my arrival. Electric blankets Yaaa!

Review 16:Oil heating is not obvious for a European traveler, and breakfast options are somehow limited (no real extended buffet)

Review 17:The excellent bar and the interesting discussions with owners and other guests in the bar and at the breakfast table are highlights of my stay in New Zealand

Review 18:Being addressed by my first name when I arrived; being greeted by a a blazing fire in the very comfortable lounge bar; the friendliness of the manager; the hotel's nostalgic association with the past and its strong association with the railway.

Review 19:Aaron & Georgie were wonderful hosts. We had a lovely time chatting with them & other guests over dinner in the cozy bar. They had local brews from Invercargill Brewery on hand for us to try. Breakfast was great as well. Highly recommended as a stop on your road trip around the south island.

Review 20:A bit tatty and needs a facelift, but it did add to the charm

Review 21:I loved the old feel of this hotel. the proprietors were amazing and made this hotel special

Review 22:Very friendly an helpful owners. A relaxed friendly atmosphere that as a woman travelling alone I felt very comfortable going into the bar for a drink. Good selection of food in the restaurant.

Review 23:Nothing at all.

Review 24:Really friendly welcome that lasts the duration of your stay, great character and ambiance, impeccably clean and a great breakfast. Superb central location easy walk to town centre / restaurants / amenities and close to the airport. Highly recommended.

Review 25:Everything was great. We had hoped the restaurant would have been open but wasn't because it was Sunday.

Review 26:The location of the hotel was one block away from the centre of town so excellent for shopping or dining options. Parking was also outside so very handy. The room was large and very quiet for a good nights sleep. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful.

Review 27:The Managers were welcoming and friendly. The Hotel was gorgeous and filled with both old fashioned charm and modern conveniences. The room and hotel was warm, clean and comfortable.

Review 28:Room was on the top floor and there is no lift, so carrying suitcases up 3 flights of stairs is not for the faint hearted!!! Ask for a lower room! Also, just a plug in heater, so the room took a while to heat up!

Review 29:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel when you walk in has a large log fire and it was lovely and toasty. The location of the hotel was great, very close to a lot of restaurants and bars.

Review 30:Sometimes the shower curtain would do what shower curtains do and stick to you in the shower. My only criticism, if you can call that a criticism.
