Reviews for Volkhov

Review 1:Velikhy Novgorod is a nice town, and Hotel Volkhov is in a perfect location -- within easy walking distance of everything (including the station). We stayed in the most basic room, and it was thoroughly satisfactory, and extremely good value for money. As is so common in Russia, the Staff were very pleasant to deal with.

Review 2:The hotel is in a great location with a short walk from the main tourist attractions. Our room was really good in size, comfortable and even had a little balcony, although the double bed was a disaster, the mattress, the pillows and the duvet were really thin and uncomfortable. Breakfast offered a good choice, staff was pleasant and helpful. Two things though came to my attention- a very small and scary lift and the key to the room which had a big wooden key ring- we had to leave and collect it from the reception every time we left the hotel!

Review 3:Curtains are almost transparent so it's difficult to get a good night's rest. As we were there in September with an average temperature between 28 and 21 degrees Celsius we didn't need either heating nor air conditioning so can't vouch for that.

Review 4:It's well located, clean and quiet. Healthy breakfast. There' a good restaurant "Nice people" a block away with really good russian food.

Review 5:We stayed for one night in the hotel on our trip from Moscow to St Petersburg. We really liked this hotel. They had a very friendly personnel ready to help anytime with directions or any other things for example cup of tea in the middle of the night. Also they served the best breakfast we had in Russia.

Review 6:Room was quite small and a bit out of date which didn't seem adequate for the price paid.

Review 7:Located in city center of Novgorod the Volkhov Hotel is a good choice if you don't want to waste time traveling from hotel to the city. Rich and very good served breakfast.

Review 8:Very old beds (not very comfortable) and extremely noisy inside. You hear other guests very easily die to lack of isolation and age of building structure.

Review 9:Centrally located and not very expensive.

Review 10:The room is extremely basic, no air-conditioning, no safety box. It gets terribly hot, and during the night, the traffic is loud and there were some drunkards screaming in the park, earplugs are essential.

Review 11:The building is quite impressive, the breakfast is sufficient

Review 12:the room was a bit cold and we can hear the other guest, but acceptable

Review 13:the breakfast and the dinner in the restaurant was great and of quality and the location also!

Review 14:no wifi in your own room , maybe in the lobby, the TV is so tradional ; )

Review 15:the bar in the hotel F1 is funny, passionate service ,it closes till the last guest departure

Review 16:Stuffy room - had to always open the window, which wasn't very comfortable in the cold winter day. Included breakfast: pastry lacks freshness and doesn't taste good in general. But there's a good choice of other food, so you'll find smth nice even if you are unlucky with a decent croissant to your coffee)

Review 17:Comfortable beds, fine location (10 min walking to the railway station, even less to the Kremlin), very helpful staff.

Review 18:See the header. I find it odd that the staff didn't remove some of the things the previous guests had left in the bathroom. Also, the bathroom was not completely tidy. The air in the room was stuffy. The room needs more space.

Review 19:The staff was polite and ready to help. The breakfast tasted good, the location and the furnishing of the interior were also acceptable. Didn't use WiFi because I had 4G.

Review 20:My room was very-very smoked inspite of smoking forbidding signes. Also china neighbourhood was very unpleasant. Great huge of chinees has damaged the staying!

Review 21:it`s realy in the city center, within 5 minutes from the Kremlin. The breakfast is unexpected tasty, with great choice also for vegetarians. Nice wi-fi speed and polite helpfull stuff, very different from waitors and sellers around.

Review 22:Great location about 5 blocks south of train station. You only need to follow the beautiful tree lined street south of the station. The hotel is on a center axis between the train station and the beautiful Kremlin. The Kremlin entrance is about 2 blocks south of the hotel. The town area south of the Kremlin crossing a bridge is also nice. There are churches from the 1100's and 1300's to visit. Hotel food pricey.Fun local eating spots. You just have to find them.

Review 23:Rooms facing the street are too noisy. Dining room's staff can hardly handle large groups.

Review 24:Great Breakfast, Good location. English speaking at the Front Desk!!!

Review 25:the rooms are very cold, heating can be turned on only centrally. food at the breakfast was awful. the only good thing about the hotel is location. even though next time I will stay at Park Inn (ex Beresta Palace) - I'd better walk to the town center or take a bus rather than stay at an old hotel with bad food and average service.

Review 26:perfect location - 10 mins walking distance from the railway station and just 2-3 mins to the Kremlins. nice staff at the reception and sales department.

Review 27:The sound insulation at the hotel is not very good. However, I was lucky and staff put me away from other guests on the fourth floor. No elevators, by the way.

Review 28:The generous breakfast buffet, the fact that staff heeded my request for a quiet room.

Review 29:Really run down decor and facilities. Beds made a lot of noise. One bed had two broken "cross beams", which was not fixed during our stay due to miscommunication between staff. No replacement room was available, and no compensation offered.

Review 30:Good location, walking distance to the Kreml.

Review 31:Bathroom facilities a bit dated but clean.

Review 32:We really appreciated the hospitality and that we have our room when we came from the train early in the morning.

Review 33:Great location, nice restaurant, helpful staff.

Review 34:It was very very cold in the room, heater barely worked

Review 35:Breakfast was poor.

Review 36:Location

Review 37:Old rooms, no renovation

Review 38:Location , friendly stuff

Review 39:Outdated door locks, no safe in the room.

Review 40:Location, comfort, good food.

Review 41:Bed was a board with super thin 2 inch mattress. Staff not very friendly or helpful.

Review 42:Price. Location was OK.

Review 43:The hotel would need some restauration concerning bathrooms, floors etc.

Review 44:verty friendly and serviceminded staff!

Review 45:the dinner in the restaurant was exquisitly good!!

Review 46:nothing

Review 47:Location and room size

Review 48:Timing. Restaurant closes very fast and no room service

Review 49:Location, Food and People

Review 50:wifi

Review 51:Nice surroundings and you like the antique building.

Review 52:Front desk stuff was very nice and polite. Amazing location. Clean rooms

Review 53:The receptionist photocopied the whole of my passport. For what purpose? She wouldn't tell. Never happened before.

Review 54:Creaky beds, huge pillows, bad lighting in corridors and rooms, not very clean sanitary.

Review 55:Very friendly personnel, good restaurant, central position.

Review 56:A bad in the single room is quite small

Review 57:The breakfast is various and very good. Location is excelent. Staff is ok.

Review 58:I was caught with tansport and visa matter. The receptionists were very helpful to smoothen the issues and got everything settled!

Review 59:Reception was the worst. They only help to russian people. No smile and very rude. No clean water to shower. Beds very old.

Review 60:A bit old....

Review 61:Location, Very clean, Staff are O.K

Review 62:Room interior is a bit outdated but all the rest is fairly good. Great breakfast btw!

Review 63:Friendly staff, clean, spacious and comfortable room with good facilities. Convenient, near the old town.

Review 64:Many rooms are without air conditioning and it was very unpleasant. Our room it was 33 degrees Celsius in late Spring. The receptionist in charge was not very helpful.

Review 65:The location was very good. Except for needed air conditioning, the Hotel was very good,

Review 66:The worst bathroom and breakfast. Leaking shower and not a nice breakfast.

Review 67:Position of hotel was close to everything and some good restaurants. The staff were very helpful and could speak English

Review 68:The room is too small and the furniture is left from Lenin)) All inside is old, small and bad looking, Hearing is too good: one can hear the neighbor do anything: do not want to specify, thanks God my daughter was already sleeping ! In general, there is no much choice in the city to stay, the only good hotel in the city is heavily overpriced, This one just uses the fact you have no choice Good for making the movies about soviet times))

Review 69:Placed right in the very center, easy to rich kremlin, good, friendly staff

Review 70:Very thin walls, between bedrooms and corridor. Asked to keep my passport overnight as their photocopier wasn't working!!!

Review 71:Central to everything. Nice breakfast.

Review 72:Chaotic lobby, smokers everywhere, check-in staff with an attitude,

Review 73:Great location, a block away from the kremlin. Satisfactory shower, breakfast was a positive surprise given the what we went through

Review 74:Slow Wi-Fi, small rooms, limited number of TV channels.

Review 75:Fantastic location, clean rooms, decent breakfast, electric heaters in bathrooms, parking in the front.

Review 76:Cleaness. I saw some bugs in the toilet in my room. Also, the shower sink was a bit jammed.

Review 77:The price and location were exceptional for solo travellers. It was close to the Kremlin and also not very far from the train station and the long distance bus station. But in my case Google Map got the starting point and the ending point wrong, so it took me awhile to get there.

Review 78:During a room cleaning process someone took away an old piece of soap and didn't provide a replacement. Not a big deal but challenging.

Review 79:Location in the city centre, wonderful breakfast, helpful staff.

Review 80:The room (we had a Junior Suite) was very small; the lavatory - very small; the walls in the bedroom were with vine stains. The furniture is old; the keys are not electronic. The view from this Junior Suite was to the garbage bins. Overall, we didn't like the hotel however for three stars it has some advantages like the outlook.

Review 81:The hotel is located right in the center of Novgorod and it is an old Soviet hotel. The common areas look quite nice.

Review 82:- smells as if someone smoked in the room recently - hotel resembles the one from Soviet times - too expensive for what you get

Review 83:- central location - varied breakfast

Review 84:original room with view of car park (they did allow us to change). staff efficient but hard to raise a smile from anyone

Review 85:location, breakfast, wifi, being allowed to change room

Review 86:The food left much to be desired. There was a lot of noise above our room early in the morning.

Review 87:Location is unbeatable in terms of proximity to the Kremlin and historic sights.

Review 88:The hotel is old and certainly needs modernization and better maintenance regarding style and facilities. The price for a suite is far too high for offered average standards; e.g. the shower hose was leaking; the bed wasn't as 'large' or comfortable as advertised; the old TV set was outdated and did not provide any international news channels, etc.

Review 89:Staff were friendly and helpful; we arrived on an early train and were allowed an early checkin for no additional charge. The location was central to most things you need or want to see in Novgorod.

Review 90:Veliky Novgorod is not to be missed, and the Volkhov Hotel is theobvious place to stay. The staff was very helpful andfriendly(especially Alexsandra). Check out the amusing Museum of LeftObjects. And it's very near the Café le Chocolat.

Review 91:The carpet was not so clean...it could be better, the room was on the street and the car noise was uncomfortable

Review 92:The breakfast was perfect , the staff was so helpful and friendly and the location is excellent ... not far from the train station (12 minutes walking or less) and less than 5 minutes from the Kremlin , a good restaurant was near to it as well as the tourist information center....

Review 93:1) Price. Almost 100 USD a night for a double in a typical 3-star hotel in a provincial town is far too much. In Tallinn and Riga, a similar double would be at half the price! 2) Heavily chlorinated water. The hotel owners should have installed a water purification unit long ago. Certainly, water of this quality is supplied all over the city, but this shouldn't prevent them from caring more for the hotel guests. 3) Some dark spots (rust?) in the sliding mechanism of the shower cabin. (True, the cabin itself is quite clean and of an adequate size.) 4) The flooring carpet in front of the desk had a few dark spots. 5) No hair-drier 6) Primitive toiletries

Review 94:1) Location. The hotel is almost equi-distant from the train/ bus station and the Kremlin (the Detinets). Some supermarkets and cafes are also nearby. 2) Service and hospitability. We arrived at about midday, but got checked in at once. Free lockers in the luggage room. 3) Very good/ excellent bufet breakfast. Cheese, meats, sausages, cereals, baked fish, eggs, fresh and tinned fruits and vegetables, pancakes, sour cream, milk, tea... Well, the coffee was not the strongest point of the breakfast, but quite drinkable. 4) A mosquito net in the window 5) The city itself is a must! The picture gallery of the city is very good.

Review 95:There is no a snap catch in the bathroom's door in the room.

Review 96:Very friendly staff. Comfortable hotel in its details, e.g. there is a free library on the first floor

Review 97:The furnishings are a bit dated, which is not such a big deal. The carpeting in the guest room where I stayed was really nasty however. There is no air conditioning. During my stay in July, it was quite hot during the afternoon and evening hours. The likes far outweighed the didn't-likes.

Review 98:The Volkhov Hotel is a lovely old hotel in a great location, close to all the local attractions, and with friendly, helpful English-speaking staff. The restaurant and bar serve a very nice menu; all the ingredients were fresh and of a high quality.

Review 99:The noise from cars at night, though it didn't bother us that much. But you definitely should consider this while booking the room, preferably with the windows to the back yard. Otherwise I would recommend this hotel

Review 100:The breakfast was good, the staff - friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for walking to the Kremlin. There is a parking area beside the hotel

Review 101:My single room was small but clean and comfortable. The staff at reception were helpful and could speak enough Emglish to answer all the questions I had. The food and service in the restaurant were very good. I would certainly return.

Review 102:Friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, central location and close to train station The included breakfast was a step up from our previous hotel Has good pool table and bar

Review 103:There's nothing we disliked. This was our second stay, and it was aspleasant as our first.

Review 104:An excellent, moderately priced hotel within walking distance of trainstation & sights in Novgorod. Friendly, helpful staff knows English(our Russian is so-so). Looks out on a park near the central citysquare. We told hotel we'd be arriving at around 6 A.M. (fromMoscow, on the night train), and our rooms were ready when we got tothe hotel.

Review 105:- Excellent and central location. - Staff very friendly, qualified and helpful (special thanks to Alena!) - The room (Junior Suite) very comfortable.

Review 106:- Staff is very unfriendly - do not want to find the solution for the problems- rooms are too small (around 15 sq metres totally) - dirty water from the sink - breakfast set up was a mess (pancakes were good =))

Review 107:- Location (very close to the Kremlin)- parking space in front of the hotel

Review 108:No cold water on the fifth floor Small and uncomfortable coffin like beds Stain in shower with the curtain looks like in pioneer camp

Review 109:Breakfast was so silly...

Review 110:The main disappointment is that real room facilities varied greatly from described on the hotel official site.

Review 111:Restaurant menu was excellent

Review 112:Heavy tobaco smell in the bathroom. Try booking non-smoking room. The bed was also rather narrow.

Review 113:A collection of old books in Russian in the hall.

Review 114:Water fall on floor in bathroom. Furniture, example sofa, is bad.

Review 115:Location of hotel near kremlin

Review 116:We have a problem with VISA, but Master Card is working

Review 117:Location, polite personal, good breakfast

Review 118:设备稍显简陋,房间小。

Review 119:离火车站和克里姆林宫都不远,步行可及。早餐丰富。

Review 120:Too expensive to do laundry. Smoking in the restaurant and bar

Review 121:Location. staff were very helpful

Review 122:Excellent location, few meters from the Kremlin. Pleasant rooms with new bathrooms.

Review 123:Great location, friendly english speaking staff, nice old fashioned interior, clean rooms, diverse breakfast.
