Reviews for Santana Hotel & SPA
Review 1:We didn't find time to enjoy the spa- just one evening to visit the city...
Review 2:Nice view, vvery nice room & facilities. Smiling staff. Very nice!!!
Review 3:this hotel needs to refurnished and a complete face lift. nothing worked: the shower, the television, not possible to have heating and no blankets, only after 3 times asking somebody brought them, but than the bed was full of mites so did not sleep a lot. the television command needed maybe only new batteries but these were not available.wifi is not working in the room. this can hardly be a 4 star hotel...
Review 4:not a lot, the view from the restaurant?
Review 5:Spa facility a bit tirred and rules that put me off using it. The balcony was not cleaned with the room, people in the room above dumped cigaret ends down onto our balcony. Paint pealing on the outside making it look untidy.
Review 6:Very comfortable bed and large room. The room was in good order and kept clean. Most staff very professional and helpful. Hotel is only a short walk from the town centre.
Review 7:Reserved a room for three people but the sofa bed was totally inadequate for a large person. Bedroom a little tired in decor and facilities.
Review 8:Excellent views although the walk back from nearby town is hard work up steep hill. Public areas very nice and comfortable. Breakfast simple but very good.
Review 9:The last night in the restaurant was very bad. Bad service, we felt ignored, bad tough steak (we were not charged for that meal) and they tried to fob us off with inferior wine. My husband noticed and had a word with them, the proper wine was bought to the table in the end.i
Review 10:The first two meals I'm the restaurant.
Review 11:We booked a standard double but it was not suitable for us with our one year old particularly due to a smashed tile. We were immediately given a different room, despite the hotel being very busy. I would advise opting for a suite over the standard double.
Review 12:Manager and staff were very obliging. Pool is great, common areas lovely, views over old town are good, especially from restaurant.
Review 13:The hotel is advertized as a Spa & swimming pool. Beware that you are not allowed to swim because of usage of the swimming pool for classes in the morning. I asked to have a small line to swim for 10 minutes without disturbing the class but i was not allowed. I should wait until the class was finished and loss my breakfast. keep my children waiting to go to Oporto... not very handy.... not very polite. I was loged there mainly because of the pool.
Review 14:The hotel seems a bit old (in a bad way), looks a bit like a Soviet hotel trying to impress foreign guests with early 80s modernization and architecture. The atmosphere seems a bit suffocating while at the same time over-spacious. Staff seemed depressed. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are using the spa facilities (which I admittedly did not try). It is not necessarily bad, but not for everyone.
Review 15:Wifi is good and in the rooms. Central air conditioning.
Review 16:Hotel is looking a little tired in places, carpets, balcony paving and paintwork.
Review 17:Great location, easy access to the beaches and great public transport connections to Porto. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 18:Staff wasn't very friendly, room wasn't clean, poor presentation, pillows were in the cupboard and thus smelly, moths coming from that very cupboard, ...
Review 19:The food was great but the dining room staff were inexperienced and it was a bit like being served by work experience people. It needs a better supervision to bring it back to standard.
Review 20:The friendly staff and the attention to our needs was great. The views from the dining room were an added bonus. It is easy to get into Porto on the Metro and great to come back to a seaside town after the city.
Review 21:stains on carpets and bed covers - the place needs redecorating, it looks a bit old and run down in places but it is in the process of being redecorated.
Review 22:swimming pool and jacuzzi open t'il 9 pm- metro station near by to Porto (a bit tricky to get tickets though!) - lovely breakfast
Review 23:Some of the room furnishings are beginning to look tired but these are due to be updated soon. Having to renew WiFi access code everyday Restaurant expensive compared with nearby local establishments
Review 24:Recently refurbished spa suite and gym Pleasant staff Free WiFi Quietness of room Breakfast
Review 25:no outside furniture on balconies have never seen this before. no slow fan on aircon. some details in room need attention or upgrading. no outside seating areas outside the bar.
Review 26:food facilities swimming pool friendly staff good parking
Review 27:The Santana was used as a one night stopover after arriving in Portugal. The hotel was clean and comfortable with a degree of elegance. The pool and spa were a real benefit.
Review 28:The fact that the rooms had carpet full of hairs and some stains. The head of the bed was covered with a stained fabric, which was disappointing.
Review 29:The views, the location, spa area and swimming pool.
Review 30:The heating was not working properly and the room was cold all night.
Review 31:Swimming pool. Breakfast (simple buffet but sufficient and efficient)
Review 32:Rooms are old with no reniew and smell bad
Review 33:Very professional staff
Review 34:We had a very relaxing and nice stay at Santana Hotel. Indeed, the view over the river is beautiful and seen everywhere (room, pool, restaurant...).
Review 35:Hotel in the hills up from the city in a nice quiet location overlooking the river.
Review 36:Grubby carpets.
Review 37:The recently refurbished spa and swimming pool were great.
Review 38:Evening meal was expensive & not very good, meat was tough
Review 39:Amazing view from room & swimming pool. Excellent choice at breakfast
Review 40:The carpets could be cleaner and the bathrooms are showing there age.
Review 41:The spar facilities and pool were excellent
Review 42:Service and food in the restaurant was very poor, and noisey
Review 43:Room was very good
Review 44:Our Roma decoration and bathroom was v tired
Review 45:Location and piil

Review 49:Mandatory caps on the pool (for 4.5 Euros)
Review 50:very helpful staff
Review 51:Rather old facilities
Review 52:Location is quite good
Review 53:Nada a apontar
Review 54:Hotel muito bom
Review 55:Location, restaurant
Review 56:The pool and Spa facilities
Review 57:Breakfast facilities not enough forma so many people.
Review 58:Lovely hotel forma travelling with kids
Review 59:the heating system was really poor
Review 60:Loved the decor. Slightly faded glamour, but that was part of the attraction. Good restaurant, good spa, nice staff.
Review 61:The gym was closed for renovations, there was no info until I was at the gym and saw it for myself. The pool and jacuzzi were closed for maintenance. Spa treatments had to be booked 48 hours in advance. We had a big balcony but without any furniture. The stay was a disappointment really...
Review 62:Beautiful setting.
Review 63:Smoking in the bar.... When staff challenged - I was advised to go outside on the terrace if i didn't want to be subjected to other guest's smoke...! 1970s attitude was in tune with the decor.
Review 64:Good location - handy for the town, beaches and access to metro to get into Porto and beyond. Accommodation is of a good standard - with a retro feel. Breakfast is of a high standard. Would recommend.
Review 65:For the great location, the rooms are suboptimally designed, having either small windows with a view or a large balcony without a view. In any case they need a freshing up.
Review 66:The feel of a high end "sanatorium" in the Baltics in the 1980'.
Review 67:The bed where my kids slept was of very poor quality and its springs made noise each time they turned. At breakfast there 3 types of bread but 2 of them ended quickly and were not replaced.
Review 68:The location was the best thing about the hotel. Furthermore they have triple rooms which is great for our 4 member family with young children.
Review 69:Couldn't control temperature in rooms and was a bit cold. Equipment in gym was mostly broken.
Review 70:Good facilities, and very good value for money. Nice restaurant and pool
Review 71:Old installations, the bedroom floor was a dirty, old and worn out carpet, plus there was a huge fringe above the door so forget about sound insulation, and water preussure. The room design also needs a little update. Some considerations should also have been made when designing the pool bathroom/dressing areas, since sometimes people had to be changing/showering right behind the entrance and exit doors and therefore exposed when someone got in/out! Last but not least the restaurant staff should be more careful about the amount of noise they produce when talking to each other. Discussing work issues loud enough for the hole dinning room to hear is very unprofessional.
Review 72:Great view and the nice value since we had dinner included. Free Parking
Review 73:It is not a four star hotel (according to the internatinal rating). sauna is in a very bad condition. It is broken and you can see stain on the floor. Some places it is burned. You have to pay for the cap. which you must have to have it to use pool and other facilities. Locker room for swiming in bad condition. very old fashioned TV with video quality very bad.
Review 74:Sauna closed - Steam room in a poor state: door handles missing and lose - tiles missing off floor.
Review 75:Nice sized rooms, pleasant public seating areas, lovely pool.
Review 76:Beds uncomfortable. And why does every hotel in Portugal have one tiny pillow? Are there no manufacturers of large comfortable pillows in the entire country? Is there a law that states that only one pillow is allowed per bed?
Review 77:Directions to hotel were very clear. View was stunning.
Review 78:Bath was cracked to shower leaked. Breakfast buffet was poor for hotel of this standard
Review 79:Location with good views. also near metro station to go into Porto. Food in restaurant good
Review 80:Unpractical with babies (no kettle or microwave oven available in ornear room to heat water and/or baby food), restaurant opening hours arerather late to dine out with young children, room service hours coincidewith restaurant hours (impossible to obtain simple dishes for childrenearlier than 7.30 pm)
Review 81:Friendly staff. Large & clean rooms. Quiet.
Review 82:Slow service. always waiting for someone to appear.
Review 83:Bycicle hire.
