Reviews for Pestana Cidadela Cascais - Pousada & Art District
Review 1:Really struggling here. But the bedside lamp did make it difficult to put books etc on it.
Review 2:The indoor swimming pool was beautiful, and only 50m from our room. We could eat our breakfast on the balcony, (although it could get quite hot in the sun). Our room was spacious.
Review 3:Indoor pool a little small. Staff at breakfast needed to be asked for coffee and top ups
Review 4:Beautiful conversion of an old fort. Fantastic massage at the spa and very comfortable room.
Review 5:Layout and room facilities less practical for people with young children or elderly.
Review 6:Location, unique style of hotel, friendly helpful staff, housekeeping excellent.
Review 7:Not a negative but a suggestion. By the reception there is a big open space -- modernity or wasted space ? take your pick, but in my opinion could do with a central bar area .
Review 8:Excellent location, impressive fort a five minute walk into the centre of town.Stayed 3 nights in a good sized bedroom overlooking the marina superb highly recommended. Staff very helpful with recommendations.
Review 9:there is a karaoke bar in the marina that some nights didn't end until 3am. But with the doors closed it did manage to keep out most of the bad singing, but I like to sleep with the doors open.also didn't find a good restaurant in cascais, found an excellent one in Lisbon ( Da Vinci ) managed to eat there twice..
Review 10:The redevelopment of the Fort is excellent, we stayed in a room overlooking the marina, very nice. The Hotel & room must be the best we've ever stayed at, the room had maid service twice every day...great staff too. Highly recommended
Review 11:Probably say the price of food in the restaurant on the 2nd floor was a bit pricey for the amount you got, saying that the food was delicious!
Review 12:Absolutely loved this hotel and my stay here, 2 nights was far too short. Beautiful hotel in an excellent location with amazing views over the marina. Breakfast was delicious and all the staff were really friendly and remembered my name. Swimming pools fabulous, just an amazing hotel, I wanted to go back as soon as I'd left.
Review 13:Breakfast becam boring in the 5th day. They should change the food from time to time.
Review 14:The staff was very friendly and belpful. The location is marvelous.
Review 15:"extras" are very expensive, such as delivery of ice to the room, or anything from the mini bar, or the pre-booked taxi back to the airport
Review 16:Room was amazing Setting and location were excellent Everything was clean and new looking
Review 17:Really bad service, we stayed at two other hotels in Portugal this trip where the service was amazing but this one was not even close to as good. They where not helpful at all. Very clinical at best. In addition the parking is very expensive and they only take cash which nobody informs you about (!). This compared to two other hotels who event sent maps explaining how to get to complimentary parking. These hotels where in similar price class. In such a new hotel at such a price I also wonder how you manage to have very little sound isolation, are unable to keep light out for sleeping guests and have almost no ventilation in the bathrooms. Looks nice but does not live up to the appearance in experience.
Review 18:A modern hotel inside antique barracks within an ancient fort. The property is extremely well kept, the staff was friendly, polite and went above and beyond. The breakfast was varied in it's selection. My room was clean, the bed was both fluffy and firm. The housekeeping staff brought in new towels every evening and tidied up my room a second time. I had a wonderful massage at the spa. If you are going to Caiscais, the Cidadela is the place to stay.
Review 19:My flight was leaving very early & I missed out on my breakfast that I paid for, they offered a breakfast box that was very average! Also they charge for tea & coffee when it should be in the room! A bit rich!
Review 20:The location! Large rooms
Review 21:Location of Hotel was quiet but central and easily accessible for station to Lisbon or for visiting the marina. The view from the restaurant was outstanding. Staff were helpful at all times.
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:This hotel is superb! The position high up in Cascais next to the marina is beautiful. The rooms are a good size, bright and clean and the facilities are all excellent. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful and the concierge/front desk staff were wonderful - nothing was too much trouble. I highly recommend this hotel.
Review 24:No onsite parking, there was a car park just down the road which was only a short walk but we did have to pay for this which was a little disappointing.
Review 25:Staff were friendly, breakfast was fab, and the art around the hotel was a real treat!
Review 26:The hotel could consider planting a grove of trees in the large courtyard of the hotel. Great place for people to sit and chat and enjoy the magic of the place.
Review 27:It's a great place to explore Cascais by foot. No need for a car for the time that you will be staying in Cascais.
Review 28:The swimming pool is small. It is away from the bar and service area. You need to bring your own water, coffe etc..
Review 29:Location. Great hotel. Good breakfast. Good service. Beautiful part of Portugal.
Review 30:Lack of management of staff, who were very friendly and trying hard, but lacked direction. Soulless lounge in the heart of the hotel and walking the very long corridor to our room.
Review 31:indoor pool, breakfast buffet
Review 32:Even though we were told the hotel was full it felt cavernous and empty. The only bar open was not welcoming, it was part of the breakfast room...
Review 33:Beautiful hotel, lovely location, lovely rooms
Review 34:Reception had no record of our booking. Is this down to Booking.com?
Review 35:Fantastic staff. Odette did everything to sort out our booking and we were given two lovely rooms next to each other with private terraces at a greatly reduced price and also offered a free meal with aperatif in the hotel taberna. We couldn't have been happier!
Review 36:Drinks and mini bar very expensive compared to local bars and restaurants. Bed abit hard. Would benefit from an outdoor pool
Review 37:Lovely Hotel with attentive staff. Breakfasts really nice with lots of choices.
Review 38:-very small room and noisy - options we were given were poor. - no bath - no sun mattresses on sun beds! - bar in basement - no atmosphere and no view
Review 39:The pools are a bit small and not suitable for real swimming; the workout room is basic.
Review 40:It is a very nice hotel and perfectly located; very quiet and close to downtown Cascais. The breakfast is great and the (ocean)view from the breakfast room is fantastic. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Review 41:The crowds at breakfast. People had to queue to be seated. No parking at pousada. Parking needs to be better organised, for example valet parking.
Review 42:The room was comfortable. The situation right near the marina. The staff on reception were very helpful.
Review 43:Loved it all.
Review 44:We stayed in an over 55's room. Knew it wouldn't have a balcony but didn't expect one for this quality of hotel and service. Room was excellent and spotlessly clean. Wide choice of beautifully prepared food for buffet breakfast. Professional, courteous and friendly staff. Would love to stay there again.
Review 45:Very authentic hotel where you feel special with the first step entering.we had a beautiful junior suite with harbour view and even if it was a very short stay,it was simply beautiful!Staff was more than helpful! Thank you so much!
Review 46:As a 5 star hotel, I was expecting something a little more extraordinary. Rooms have very minimalistic style, given the art district setting, I thought there would be more art in the room.
Review 47:Excellent facilities and good secret passage to the marina :-)
Review 48:Restaurante for lunch is expensive, has few choices for young people, and is next to the indoor pool..noisey children and ordor of chlorine..maybe should be a snack bar!
Review 49:great bed, room service breakfast was excellent and on time, quiet, easy walk down hill for shopping, tapas restaurant on old parade grounds, gift shop has excellent items from Portugal, excellent staff
Review 50:Went to the bar with my wife and order 2 cocktails before going to a restaurant and the bartender was to buys on this mobile that we left with out the drinks...
Review 51:Great experiance !! except one little thing
Review 52:Unfortunately do to the building structure, the room smelled a bit of damp. Service was good in general, however when i asked for hot water and honey through room service, it was brought without a cup.
Review 53:Very cool design hotel in an old fort. Beds are comfortable and breakfast was good.
Review 54:Bed was a little hard but not worth complaining about. The bedding was very plush.
Review 55:I loved this property-could not have asked for a better location! Breakfast was great, free wi-fi, clean rooms, beautiful bathroom, wonderful English speaking staff, amazing sun deck and pool, awesome hidden museums...just an amazing spot.
Review 56:Main restaurant - menu variety poor, expensive and poor quality The hotel is stylish and contemporary - qualities we look for. The staff were welcoming but unfortunately the hotel is far from embracing. Restaurant and spa at the end of a corridor of bedrooms an appalling idea and those guests on the corridor in terms of privacy and quietness.
Review 57:The Taberna - excellent Portugese food and good atmosphere. Staff welcoming Hotel somewhat clinical
Review 58:we become a gratis-upgrade for our booking in the hotel- this was a room with view on a wall-in maybe 2.50 m distance! the room was not what we saw in the booking(can be a misstake from booking com or them or us...) we was thinking to pay the room and go to a other hotel, after we told this to reception become one room free-exact like we saw in the booking(pictures in booking com) this was a special offer for us from the hotel for 100,-more than the prepayment but we could stay in a very very nice room with perfect view...
Review 59:very nice room with top-view after change the room, perfect location
Review 60:This was amazing all through the stay. Walking into the room was a real Booking Yeah moment, beautifully laid out with a view to the marina. The friendly staff was helpful and efficient. The building itself (the old fort) is interesting and nice to see from the inside.
Review 61:Baby bed was dirty , nobody change . Breakfast - some food is over , if you want to have a good breakfast you need to come early. Room cleaner was bad , only one day room cleaner come to us to make an evening clean, put sleepers and so on
Review 62:That we only stayed one night
Review 63:This place was spectacular. We were booked into a standard room, and were hoping for an upgrade to harbor view - but keep the standard and ask for the rooms on the 0 level on the water. Great breakfast, such an amazing space. Fabulous pool facilities.
Review 64:Wouldn't change a thing!
Review 65:Location - great. Pousada - perfect. Staff knowledgeable and helpful. We were offered an unexpected accommodation upgrade which was exceptional. Breakfast diverse enough to suit all tastes and continuously being topped up with fresh items.
Review 66:Prices of bar meals are high. Better value in the Taberna across the courtyard.
Review 67:The standard room was fine with all that we needed - very comfortable bed and pillows, great help from all the staff and wonderful breakfast. All breakfast buffet items were very quickly replenished and the coffee had good flavour which is rare in hotels. The hotel is very well located with fine views from the restaurant and sun deck and yet close to town. All staff very good and very keen to help (Carlos and the Manager just two examples).
Review 68:The only window in the room was fairly small and rather high in the end wall, so did not give the impression of a "sea view" room.
Review 69:Everything about the hotel and the staff reflected a high standard of comfort and service
Review 70:Breakfast restaurant too small for number of guests. Noise from marina bars at weekend very audible till 3.30 am on Saturday night...this for us was a big negative.
Review 71:Location, staff, pool
Review 72:Historical site where the hotel was located. Great swimming pool, with sunbathing deck on the roof of the hotel, with an awesome view. Breakfast had everything you need.
Review 73:The other guests were a little ritzy/snobby. The hill walking up to the hotel (with a rolling case)
Review 74:We were the youngest couple in the hotel (on our honeymoon) but the staff treated us superbly, like we belonged. Extra little perks/promos such as a free cocktail at the restaurant near the hotel. Staff had great recommendations for food/restaurants, Sintra, and Libson. Buffet breakfast was delicious with a very wide variety. The hotel has many different lounging areas and it is easy to find some quiet space to yourself (other than your room). The outdoor pool was a hike, but very secluded.
Review 75:The contemporary design within the original Cidadela; the location; the helpfulness of the staff; the beautifully appointed and comfortable room; and the superb breakfast.
Review 76:Parking was a bit of a hassle. Though no charge overnite, it required adding coins to the meter to avoid tickets.
Review 77:We were given an unexpected upgrade and lots of good input on what to see and do.
Review 78:Hotel should be have some sort of valet parking for guests rather then trying to locate on our own .
Review 79:Pousada was within walking distance to everything with great views and unique history
Review 80:No parking, a great disadvantage after a long journey and up market hotel. The bathroom poor design bath partition gets fought in door and small handles on wardrobe made it impossible to open each time you used the loo the telephone fell off!!
Review 81:Breakfast excellent, very comfortable beds and friendly helpful staff, loved the flying swallows in reception
Review 82:We paid what I consider a premium rate for this room. ($550 per night) It had the potential of a premium room, but lacked in the fine detail that I feel would put it at that level. The towels were old and ragged, there was a very awkward step that was hard to navigate in the dark, the shower controls were difficult to turn on without getting wet and the toiletries were pretty limited. All in all we had a nice stay, but I just didn't feel that this room was a good value.
Review 83:This hotel was beautifully located in a hip, retrofitted old citadel where we paid for a room with a view. We very much enjoyed that feature, as we were able to thoroughly view the most amazing full moon.
Review 84:Shower was inadequate. Should be upgraded to a rainfall shower. No coffee machine in room. No double bed but twins made up, with the inevitable crack in the middle. Delays with room readiness. Told 4pm but not until 5pm!
Review 85:Nearly Everything about the hotel but particularly the Breakfasts were fantastic & Staff were great.
Review 86:At over $525 per night we expected more for the money. Uneven elevation in rooms a nuisance, particularly at night. Initial water view room assigned had a view of rooftop and boat ramp and was next to bar-breakfast room. We had to request a better room to see a view of marina which they gladly gave. Labyrinth pathways to rooms. It was also touted as having art galleries. All were closed except for one.
Review 87:A new hotel developed Inside old fort, walking distance to everything, very nice and attentive staff.
Review 88:Our only small criticism is that there weren't enough parasols in the attractive sun lounge areas and it was too difficult for the staff to move or add to them although they did try. I am on strict doctors orders to stay out of the sun so this was particularly noticeable for me.
Review 89:The staff are A1. So friendly, helpful and professional. The building, set in a wonderful location, is fabulous. The breakfast is fantastic. It is a restful and restorative place. Already planning a return.
Review 90:The staff at the restaurant in the square was so unfriendly and it felt like they were doing us a favour serving us our complimentary drinks. Furthermore, there were various occassions that towels were not available at the pool. Lastly, one would expect that your room was sorted by the time you arrive back in the late afternoon, sadly this was not always the case...
Review 91:The combination of the Old Fort and the new modern accommodation is lovely. Pousada de Cascais has the perfect setting! Within walking distance to the town and fabulous restaurants. You also have a bicycle stand nearby (this is a free service) and you can cycle all along the beautiful coastline for 20kms or so.... lovely! Reception staff were most helpful!
Review 92:Bad signals in the city for reach location. There are not parking and this is a GREAT problem because the hotel is located in the city center with a terrifying trafic.
Review 93:Excellent deal, impressive facilities and amazing location in the middle of a fort in front of the marina. Highly recommended
Review 94:Great location and facility located within a historic fort, and surrounded by an environment of art and design. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was outstanding.
Review 95:We only stayed for two nights. On the second morning, I asked at reception for a blanket (the duvet provided was too hot). Although we were out of the room for most of the day, the room was not made up, nor the blanket delivered until I asked again at reception on our way out to dinner at 7.30 p.m. When we returned later that evening, the room had been made up, and the blanket delivered - along with complimentary chocolates and an apology (nice touch)
Review 96:Good size, comfortable bedroom. Indoor swimming pool and steam room clean and almost empty when we were there. Reception staff charming and professional.
Review 97:Nothing!
Review 98:Beautifully transformed from fort to stunning hotel- every corner you turn has wonderful views and play on light and shadow. Lovely staff at all times
Review 99:Absolutely amazing place to stay, staff extremely nice and helpful and the Taberna restaurant is one of the best restaurant we've tried in Cascais!!!
Review 100:Room 252 is located to close to The Hotels restaurant , and The life and sounds on The Maris Stella terrace ..... The Direction of The HOTEL should do something to deal with that location.
Review 101:The panoramic view over The Marina and the Atlantic ocean . Magnificent !!! The History of The old fortress make an impact. You can dream yourself into the life of soldiers on The fort - looking out to the sea for pirates , or ships from invading armadas threatening old Lisbon....
Review 102:On two of the 3 days we were there, there were no swimming towels at the pool area in the afternoon; on 2 of the 3 days, our room was only made up after 5pm so we returned from being out all day to a messy room and damp towels. My husband was confused by the layout of the hotel and didn't like looking out over the courtyard.
Review 103:I loved the mix of modern within the old fort; the position - slightly out of the busy town, but within easy walking distance; the views over the marina (pity our room had no view of the sea); great wifi; great food (though expensive, especially for South Africans), a lovely pool (despite it turning green one afternoon). The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant. The dining room was modern, light & airy and the breakfasts were delicious. The restaurant staff were friendly and efficient.
Review 104:Profi and friendly staff at the reception. Nice location, design and good restaurant
Review 105:no parking Bad air ventilation in room no view
Review 106:Quite, comfortable big bed, good TV channel selection
Review 107:Very good location next to the city center.
Review 108:Food and catering leave room for improvement.
Review 109:Great location in the center of Cascais. Very quiet and nice atmosphere.
Review 110:Lack of long hanging space in wardrobe.
Review 111:Quality of the staff.Everyone took time to make us feel welcome and special.
Review 112:Best location in Cascais. Super, plentiful breakfast. Nice pool terrace. Very clean.
Review 113:it was historic location and near the town
Review 114:Restaurant service a bit slow
Review 115:Great location and lovely rooms.
Review 116:Fantastic location in the old fort. Really nice staff
Review 117:single mattress of bed caused disturbed sleep
Review 118:staff, location, facilities, breakfast & wifi
Review 119:Very nice stay in this hotel. Good localisation, well equiped and employees are very professional
Review 120:Wonderful hotel in a great location! The free breakfast was amazing!
Review 121:Staff were so friendly and helpful. Amazing breakfast with great views Pure luxury
Review 122:Lack of mirrors in the room.
Review 123:Excellent service and staff throughout. Huge room and fab facilities. Beautiful breakfast.
Review 124:Everything was great. Perfect for a long weekend.
Review 125:Not enough parasols or shade around outdoor pool
Review 126:No tea making/coffee making facilities in the room
Review 127:The supportive staff The excellent breakfast The very helpful reception staff
