Reviews for The Oitavos

Review 1:Unfortunately, the Sushi bar is only a seasonal thing.

Review 2:Room was amazing and the spa facilities were outstanding. Also the very helpfull staff has to be mentionned.

Review 3:the corner floor of the shower area in the room needs to be deep cleaned as it has dark areas

Review 4:the spacious room the food was excellent (we had breakfast, lunch and dinner) room view spa

Review 5:Restaurant overpriced for dinner. Why restrict to 1 towel at poolside, not comfortable with plastic sunbed covers! Massage relatively pricey compared to other hotels same category.

Review 6:We felt pampered and spoilt, lovely staff and extremely good service. Contemporary design, extremely well done. Breakfast was to die for! Lunch menu very good. Spa a must-do, especially the massage.

Review 7:This hotel is BIG and COLD. There is nothing inviting about it. I understand the modern aesthetic, but a small area rug would have been nice. I thought this was going to be a cool modern hotel and instead it was a big cold empty mega space.

Review 8:I tried to have a meal by the pool, but was told by staff and pool manager that I would need to order in my room only, as they were in between breakfast and lunch time. Inadmissible to be defined a food menu at a 5 star hotel at 11am on a Sunday!

Review 9:hotel design

Review 10:4th visit to this excellent hotel. Very comfortable bed & pillows, quiet room with enormous balcony, excellent wheelchair access, friendly staff. Great views across golf course to sea. Will certainly return

Review 11:None

Review 12:The room was excellent, nice disposition of furniture, excellent bed and overall comfort. Both the Sushi bar and breakfast were excellent. All the staff was very professional and efficient

Review 13:Personnel service standards should be improved

Review 14:- Outstanding design (for those who love a clean, minimal design) - great breakfast - well positioned, great place for jogging and cycling - extremely spacious rooms and terrace - close to Guincho beach (surfing), ca 5km - I loved also the proximity to Furnas do Guincho (fish and seafood restaurant) - powerful hairdryer - a car is helpful

Review 15:Bathroom though very big, looks like a hospital- colours, design and had a very bad lighting..also had the rain shower, and because it was open, all the water was all over the bathroom floor and stay there like a swamp until the room was clean up...Wifi was slow ...

Review 16:Architecture and the design of the common areas are beautiful. Staff is great and food was fantastic! ( and very tasty breakfast buffet)

Review 17:The wifi connection was really very bad... not very convenient when you need to check work e-mails.

Review 18:Rooms are really big and the view on the ocean was amazing.

Review 19:Extremely windy poolside. First night was overbooked and we were moved to the Villa Italia - smaller but also good. That really shouldn't happen.

Review 20:Electronic toilet with 2 sprays and a drier was amusing. Fabulous suite. Pool.

Review 21:Default in the tv and sound system in the room. The construction and openness does carry noises.

Review 22:A quiet and natural surroundings. An exceptional spot. Interesting architecture , simplicity of decor. Excellent restaurant and cuisine, might think of being more local .

Review 23:There were only two things that I didn't like and they are very unimportant in the whole picture. I hate the toilets in the room. They have a built-in bidet and it just seems old and strange to me, although I am not European, so that might be why. Also the shower is glass enclosed and leaked a bit into the toilet area and floor. The other complaint was that some of the clientele seemed a bit snobbish but again, who cares and it could be again that I am American and just different.

Review 24:I loved this hotel! The staff was so kind and attentive from the moment that I arrived early. Much before check in. They held my luggage and allowed me to use the public areas of the hotel. The rooms are huge as so was the bed, and extremely comfortable with large down pillows. I loved the tub, the large sliding door out to my balcony. The view, the amazing pool, and the grounds with the golf course. I don't golf but it's beautiful all around the hotel. I also used the spa and had one of the best massages I have ever had, and I have been to a lot of spas/massages. The indoor pool and spa facilities are also very nice. The food was very good. I had room service, ate at the restaurant and the breakfast buffet. Loved every thing that I ate, and breakfast had a lot of good food, plus they will make you an omelet. I also used the shuttle to go to the beach which was very nice and convenient since I did not have transportation. The driver was on time and also got me a nice large towel for the beach. The day that I checked out I was welcome to stay as long as I wanted and use the facilities again, like when I arrived. The bar waiter found me outside checking emails alone and made sure that I wasn't in need of anything. This is a great hotel with impeccable service and big comfy rooms! I would return in a heartbeat.

Review 25:The shower and toilet are not private. You need to book a room on the third floor as the noise from above if you are on the first or second floor is loud. The food, other than breakfast, is poor if you don't like fish.

Review 26:The room was large and the bed very comfortable. The staff are very helpful. Breakfast is very good.

Review 27:Not a dislike but you need a car for sure - not much within walking distance

Review 28:Great food , excellent facilities- gym and pool, beautiful decor and large rooms

Review 29:Wifi in the rooms, and even lobby, is very slow and often disconnecting: not at all 5 star worth. Charging 12.5€ / day for rusty, poor maintained bikes is not-done.

Review 30:Very friendly staff, always ready to service our needs like booking restaurants. Free shuttle to Cascais, but needs to be booked. Very spacious rooms with excellent beds, good noice insulation. Gorgeous swimming pool. Great breakfast.

Review 31:The WiFi signal is weak and not fast enough.

Review 32:I love the size and design of the rooms! The spacious common area is well managed and the whole hotel is beautifully designed if you like a minimalistic design approach.

Review 33:Open plan toilet/ shower area. Main thing that would stop us returning here. A rug on the floor in the lounge area would help to make the room seem warmer if it were cloudy & wet.

Review 34:Ultra modern open plan hotel which will be either loved or hated (especially if you don't like the colour blue). The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Meal at Chef's table was excellent.

Review 35:We didn't like the glass walls for the wc. You feel like a zoo animal on display while doing your business. The spa area was not free, which was disappointing considering the price you pay for the stay. In other 5 star hotels you get free drinking water every day and can make coffee and tea in the room.

Review 36:Fantastic location and sea view. Spacious rooms with large balconies. The pool area is nice, but was occupied by conference guests on our second day. The breakfast buffet was very good with attentive staff. We only tried the restaurant one evening, as you can get high quality food elsewhere in the area for less money. However, we were very happy with our choice that evening. The quality of the food was exceptional and the local wine recommended was great value for money. One waiter was a true entertainer and added to a joyous evening.

Review 37:Any small shop to buy a bottel of water at least! Absolutlly depending to the restaurant, which is pretty expensive

Review 38:The view, the amasing huge room, the comfortable bed

Review 39:Wifi had some filter which refused to connect to many pages, making me switch to roaming whenever I wanted to read news. The blue color of the floors is rather unpleasing.

Review 40:Quiet and relaxing location, pleasant green area, walking distance to the coast. Large rooms. Amazingly tasty fresh fruits for the breakfast.

Review 41:A few large spider webs and a small wasp nest in the upper windows were our only complaint .

Review 42:The view, staff, and architecture were fabulous. As an Interior Architect myself, the attention to detail was unmatched. They thought of everything to make our stay seamless.

Review 43:a little shower leak

Review 44:clean modern, open concept. Chef meal in kitchen was so much fun. fabulous golf course, fitness gym, and pools. Bikes available to ride into town- a true bonus!

Review 45:Hard to come up with something that really bothered. Breakfast could have had more salad and fresh juice options. The minimal design would work better if higher quality materials have been used. But the overall experience was very positive.

Review 46:The location is just excellent. If you want to stay in a top-notch hotel close to Cascais but not in the middle of a tourist centre, this is THE place to be. The wild Cascais beaches are close by and it's easy to get there with bicycles that you can rent from the hotel. And if you want to go to a restaurant in Cascais for dinner, taxi takes you there just in 10 min. From our 3rd floor balcony we had magnificent views of the ocean in the distance. The rooms are very spacious and big. Lounging by the salt water outdoor pool is great way to spend your day if you don't want to do anything at all. The food was quite good as well, we had only good experiences from the pool bar to dinner at Japanese Bar and Ypsilon. We'll come back for sure.

Review 47:Third visit to this excellent independently owned hotel. Beautifully designed, with wonderful landscaped views from every side, spacious and unique. Highly efficient and friendly staff. Quality of dining experience is now very high and breakfast was uniformly excellent. Room spacious and comfortable with great sized balcony. Unrivalled facilities for a wheelchair user. A real haven (not just for golfers), in four days spent at the hotel, we simply did not feel any reason to leave (and when we did, sped back as quickly as we could). Whilst the rest of Portugal was shrouded in cloud, it was sunny and hot at Oitavos thanks to a favourable micro-climate. We look forward to returning soon.

Review 48:In my view the hotel oversells itself. I went there because I was impressed by the beautiful photos on the web site, but was very disappointed, for the following reasons: Poor airport transfer experience and welcome at the hotel. Unstable and slow wifi. You hear all the noise from the rooms next to you and above (no carpets). Not allowed to eat at the pool! Very limited choice of good food around the pool. Food from main menu often not available (e.g. no rice for the Sushi!). Hendricks gin (i.e. a common brand) out of stock! No adult pool -> a lot of noise. Poor practice facilities at the golf course (bunker and pitching area were closed, driving range in poor shape). Golf facilities in disparate locations. Staff lacks autonomy to take decisions. Overall it's an issue of bad management, I'm afraid! When I left and was charged a penalty they said this was due to Booking. But Booking called me to say it was the hotel's decision. I don't know who is right but I am more inclined to believe Booking.

Review 49:Most staff are very kind and helpful, but many need training. The view is great, but does not compensate for all the negatives.

Review 50:There is absolutely nothing I didn't like. It was perfect. I could not improve on it if I tried.

Review 51:The menu in the Ipsylon Restaurant was the best I have ever come across in a hotel. The Verbasco Restaurant at the Golf Clubhouse was also brilliant, as was the Atlantic Poolside Bar. The ingredients were outstanding and the tastes, textures and colours of the dishes were a work of art in all respects. I loved the hi-tech appearance of the rooms and the hotel, and loved the amenities such as UK three-pin sockets, USB sockets etc. The toilet with the shower and bidet, and dryer, were very useful, and the size and comfort of the balcony was also great for breakfast. The staff were without exception so professional and helpful. I don't want to name individuals because it would be unfair to those I do not name. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them. I also loved the size of the pool and its surroundings. It is the second time I have stayed there and will definitely go back again. The bed was really comfortable, as was the sofa. The layout of the room is so user-friendly. There was room for everything.

Review 52:Having to pay 15 euros per day to use the adult pool, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna inside (should be included for the price paid), staff were not very helpful as when we asked questions they were referring us to other parts of the businesses (e.g. restaurant, spa) instead of picking up the phone and organising things for us (lack of internal communication), they couldn't recommend touristic activities and check out process took ages including trying to charge us for something that wasn't ours. Could see person on the toilet in the room (fogged cabin was only half way fogged). Could hear kids running in the corridor and guests upstairs. Way too expensive for what is offered overall.

Review 53:Big pool, quiet location, pool table and games, hotel style, massive balcony in the room, great view, living room in the room, restaurant food and service

Review 54:Ugly corridors with the smell of rubber. It reminds a psychiatric clinic, but not a hotel. Very uncomfortable and impractical rooms. No toiletries at all, except shampoos and the hairdryer. The toilet and the shower are separated from the rest of the room just by the semi-transparent glass and the bath can be seen from anywhere in the room. There is no privacy at all. Also it is impossible to sleep with the open window, because of the outside noise. For example, our neighbors watched thrillers until 3 am every day. Outside pool is very small and shallow. Water is too warm and tastes like it was poured from a public toilet. Breakfast were delicious, but without any changes. Although, the hotel gives you a bottle of water at the beggining, there is no drinking water at the room, except tiny vial from the minibar. From the tap flows the same pool water, which is impossible to drink. Wi-Fi is very slow and tries to reconnect very often. I think the price does not match the quality of this hotel.

Review 55:Great location. Very beautiful views of the ocean and golf courses. Delicious breakfast.

Review 56:inside pool is charged on top design of the corridors (you feel like in the airport terminal) breakfast cost of 20 eur per person is not good value for money

Review 57:personnel view from the room location (even though there is no direct access to the seaside the place is really calm and unique)

Review 58:Rooms were too sterile and deep/dark. Modernistic design but doesn't work in rooms. Floor covering cold, bathroom not great, room like a tunnel, toilet - needs more privacy in design Food choice at breakfast average and service slow

Review 59:Location on golf course, windswept vistas of ocean, great, Pool was a great sun trap,

Review 60:The staff, particularly the one working in the reception was rather disappointing for such an amazing hotel. First of all they have this really outdated "common reception counter" (instead of the individual check in desks) where they have an excessively amount of people working. When we checked in there was eight which led to one helping us while the other seven stood just there observing. That was really uncomfortable and useless as such big team didn't make the check in process quicker at all. Apparently from those 8 working there, no one was able to help us with the luggage and car and a ninth person had to be called to deal with this... Weird system! The spa is not including in the room fee. When I say spa I mean the interior pool, turkish, sauna and ice shower. This is the first 5 stars hotel I have ever stayed that charged an additional fee to enter the spa area. That is unacceptable when you have to pay such prices to live there! Besides that was not written anywhere when we made our reservations so that came across like a rather unpleasant surprise when we tried to access the interior pool.

Review 61:This is definitely one the most spacious and modern hotels you will find in Portugal. Both the common areas and rooms are insanely big and all the spaces were thoughtfully designed and decorated. You have fantastic views from any of the hotel wings (ocean, golf tee or both) and the general mood of the hotel is quite relaxed and calming. This is the ideal hotel for recharging your batteries in style!

Review 62:Odd and impractical shower and toilet, being glass cubicles in the bedroom affording no privacy at all! The public space on the ground floor was all one space, like a VIP airport lounge. Rather characterless. Expensive.

Review 63:Huge rooms with view of the sea. Pool terrace. Good wifi. Comfortable bed.

Review 64:The rooms divided into two small spaces by the 'Berlin wall' Two televisions and yet no kettle Evident focus on the Corporate /Conference segment as compared with independent travellers Being charged 20 euro for cups of tea for four 'Conforming' to belonging to 'the beautiful' ... Lacking in soul, spontaneity , individualism, fun... We found ourselves whispering and tidying up... Now what is that all about. The Matrix? Participating in somebody else's vision of reality rather than our own. The smell...lack of fresh air on upper dark and oppressive corridors.

Review 65:The dunes The view The shuttle service Conversations with individual staff Bed quality The peace International diversity of guests

Review 66:Sea view is not really good

Review 67:The SPA area was closed sunday morning

Review 68:The room was excellent!

Review 69:Absolutely NOTHING!

Review 70:Simply impeccable! Outstanding staff! Unsurpassed location!

Review 71:The Hotel has decided to charge for the use of the SPA wich they did not in the past. Unacceptable!

Review 72:Location and design

Review 73:They charge for the use of the SPA something they did not in the past. Tha't's unacceptable

Review 74:Modern & comfortable

Review 75:perfect

Review 76:Nothing.

Review 77:Everything. The restaurants were amazing. The pool and spa are fantastic. It's a beautiful setting.

Review 78:Great location and view!

Review 79:beatiful and quiet hotel, excellent breakfast and dinner, friendly personnel, excellent rooms

Review 80:Probably one of the best hotels I have ever been to.

Review 81:Delicious breakfast! Prepared with organic food, nice atmosphere. Very big room. It was a great pleasure for us to spend time in this hotel.

Review 82:Spa is out of discussion

Review 83:Everything, all atmosphere especially food. Food is exeptional!!!

Review 84:WC without separation from the room

Review 85:Breakfast, swimming pool even if very windy

Review 86:There are not enough sunbeds around the swimming pool.

Review 87:Nice hotel, good location, superb views, large rooms, excellent breakfast

Review 88:not enough to do - could have done with table tennis or something for older kids - spa soulless and too concrety

Review 89:interesting architecture, great food

Review 90:Location, spacious rooms, calm atmosphere and breakfast on the teraace

Review 91:Relaxed but professional service and the quiet location

Review 92:Amazing stay, helpful and competent staff, great room with the comfiest bed, great pool and extremely clean. Loved it.

Review 93:Immaculate hotel. Friendly and efficient staff.

Review 94:Nothing

Review 95:Everything

Review 96:Mobile phones at breakfeast. Most guests did Not use shower before using pool

Review 97:I don't know how other guests think about toilet.

Review 98:Spacy. Beautiful view and place.

Review 99:excellent breakfast, nice and spacious rooms, fast wi-fi connection, good spa.

Review 100:Incredible views from the corner room.

Review 101:No natural light in the gym.

Review 102:Excellent facilities, with huge rooms with a nice, modern design and very confortable. View and landscape are also fantastic, and despite being a large hotel, you do not notice or even realise it. Very nice and helpful staff. Good wifi everywhere. Food and breakfast also very good. SpA very pleasant and well equiped.

Review 103:The restaurant serves really good food but is a bit soulless - it's in the very large ground floor which is one big open room. The TV showing football gives it a bit of a down market feel too. However we liked it! The gym is well equipped but has no outside windrows and the air con didn't seem to be working. Again we used it every day so it wasn't a disaster.

Review 104:It's a relaxing venue with nice staff and minimalist but cool rooms. The situation is good too, overlooking the sea but not by the fairly busy road along the coast. The restaurant serves good food and the same menu is available in the outside bar by the pool.

Review 105:Hard to work out how to use the gym equipment but no trouble from crowds.

Review 106:Fantastic room, very comfortable, wifi worked brilliantly, staff were extremely friendly. Plenty of choice at breakfast.

Review 107:Muito grande, com muito espaço vazio que torna o ambiente um pouco mais frio. Impessoal Very large with plenty of empty space that makes the atmosphere a little cooler. impersonal

Review 108:Quarto grande, com boa varanda e boa paisagem envolvente. Good room with nice views and good balcony.

Review 109:Hotel is minimilistic and the ground floor is like an airport all open plan. The remote controls in the room were dirty

Review 110:Room size good and quiet but very minimilistic

Review 111:Great design hotel, fantastic service, friendly staff, wonderful golf course all of this in a fabulous environment. Visit Sintra, close to Cascais and really worth visiting.

Review 112:actually no bus connections, which means you'd need your own car while it's difficult to park in towns like Cascais or in Lizbon, the waiters await for your almost-empty plates during meals which is a little abrasive, the floors are not so wise finished with some kind of paint and it's visible, the walls in rooms are too dark (in my opinion); the choice of grey color was OK, but it's too dark. The price is too high. Relatively too expensive in comparison to other hotels.

Review 113:WIFI OK, pool OK, large-sized rooms with good terraces, quiet surrounding, large TV screens, EXCELLENT gardens, good ocean's wind, not in the middle of town, good breakfast, free parking place, the music was nice during the breakfasts.

Review 114:Missing atmosphere in the restaurant/bar. Missing places for havingoutdoor breakfast and dinner, only lunch on terrace available. No 5star standard of service. Used condom on the terrace and no excuse fromHotel ants in the room too many children, but no facilities forchildren, all at the pool!! Not enough sun chairs at the pool (may befor 50% of the guests)

Review 115:The rooms are very spacy and nice!! If you like blue! Designhotel.

Review 116:There were too few umbrellas by the pool and a lack of sunbeds, which can be excused by the fact that the hotel was full up.

Review 117:Everything. Despite the hotel being full, still a 10 out of 10 experience!

Review 118:Cleaning of the rooms took untill late afternoon twice. And my nightee was taken while changing the bedsheets. I would expect some bottled water in the rooms instead of taking it from the minibar. Also the prices of drinks are high for Portugese standards (4 eur for a coke).

Review 119:Breakfast buffet very good, rooms very modern and spacious, free bicycles, employees very friendly and helpfull.,

Review 120:- it is simply not (yet) a 5 star and - if you want to be a 5 star than be aware that the people (i e the consumer) expects you to deliver - tennis : you can't 'state' that you have tennis etc. facilities on the premises while customers need to take a taxi (!) to go to shared facilities with the local town council ! - an owner (omni present) but doesn't 'add' anything if he doesn't engage with clients....his son did

Review 121:- concept - site (near to Lissbon) - intentions by staff to "get to the level" (5 star) - quality of food

Review 122:The gourmet restaurant was not on the top for everything.there was a problem but the kitchen chief did not appear to discuss it.The staff very friendly but not well trained...

Review 123:Golf,location,design

Review 124:Golf course had just been hollow tied, the greens were not in good condition.70euros for a electric cart is a ridiculous amount. The menu was basically the same at lunch and the evening, why not have more fish dishes certainly not 5 star standard.

Review 125:Friendly staff, particularly in the spa and the pool area.

Review 126:Everything was perfect!

Review 127:I like everything! Staff was beauiful, very helpful. Design is amazing. Room is huge with 16 sq.m balcony. Breakfast was very good. The best hotel in our trip in Portugal

Review 128:There was no coffee machine inside the room, no door between the bedroom and the bathroom and the first time that I entered the pool the water was freezing!!The second time it was perfect!!And the fact that I had to pay for the parking area although there was enough space of all the cars of the hotel!!!

Review 129:The staff was excellent and very friendly, the view from the room on the ocean splendid, the gym well organised and the restaurant food very good but a bit expensive!!!

Review 130:Price of the buggy is way too high, it is an other green fee! Very windy and although local people say it was not normal, if you look at the trees, one realises that this is a regular wind.

Review 131:Spacious rooms, nice designed. Good service, very friendly staff. Nice food with great wines. Nice golf course.

Review 132:Quiet location overlooking the ocean. Biggest hotel rooms I have ever seen. excellent breakfast and food. Wonderful staff. 5-star-PLUS service and experience.
