Reviews for Viento De Mar

Review 1:The quality of the food and service at the restaurant could be improved.

Review 2:It's a little heaven on Earth! Beautiful large rooms, white, very clean and comfortable. Great beds, perfect shower with a lot of pressure. The beach club is amazing as well and has super comfortable beds. Stunning pool with the waterfall, ideal to relax and have a peaceful time in Tulum. The location is very convenient too, a few minutes from all the best restaurants in Tulum.

Review 3:Amazing staff service! (Specially Miguel, alsways available and ready to help in reception). Simple, clean and nicely decorated rooms, very good food and drinks and beautiful beach front!!

Review 4:Great staff, always on hand to help - from when we checked in late at 10:30pm to helping when the car hire company I booked let us down. The manager called a few locals and organised a cab to take us to one without fuss. We were poorly for a couple of days and they helped any way they could.

Review 5:Would have been convenient to have a rack for drying bathing suits, clothes and towels. We ended up hanging stuff on the balcony railing and hammock

Review 6:The hotel is directly on the beach. Facilities are clean and new. Comfortable sun beds. Service is friendly. The room was spacious and quiet.

Review 7:Bed sheets and pillows were damp constantly, gross to sleep on - I had to sleep on a towel covering the pillow! They did not change the towels daily and we needed this because the towels would not dry properly because of the damp/humidity. Shower water not normal - left a residue in our hair so we could not have a proper shower and feel clean the whole trip! Shower water tasted like salt water. Terrible smell coming from bathroom which took-over the whole room. Suspected food poisoning from the breakfast- eggs, bacon & hash browns (tasted weird and they were a weird damp texture, not crispy) or the tap water used when brushing my teeth. I suggest: DO NOT use the tap water to brush your teeth by the way- use the provided bottled water!

Review 8:Good location and aesthetically pleasing. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 9:The staff in the restaurant, while very friendly and obviously well meaning, struggled with organising themselves, so even though there was plenty of them, service was slow. They need an experienced maitre d' to whip them into shape. But we were in no rush really to enjoy the seascape in front of us, so it didn't bother us too much.

Review 10:Beautiful location on the beachfront. Tastefully decorated and well maintained. Quiet, no loud music pumping on the beach. Good shade from thatched parasols on the beach. Nice welcome drink on arrival. The included breakfast had plenty of choices on the menu and everything was freshly made and tasty. Good air conditioning in the room. Staff cleared the seaweed diligently away from the beach front. Easy walking distance to restaurants. Bikes available for use. Reception staff were professional and helpful.

Review 11:Beach bar wasn't open and there seemed to be a lack of them along the whole strip.

Review 12:Right on the beach. Very relaxed place. Friendly staff. Lovely beach hut style rooms.

Review 13:- breakfast is good but complicated to ask (some things are included other are not - but it is never very clear what it is ....) - staff is very friendly , food is excelent but kitchen is very unorganized - they give you what you ask - the receptionist lady is very good looking but very unfriendly (i can read it is a common opinion between travelers).

Review 14:- location - space /privacy - mannager is really competent and friendly - the staff (cleaning and restaurant) - the food is divine - specially lunch - i am still dreaming of it... - the bedrooms are big and nice

Review 15:Our room was filthy, with black hair everywhere. Very dirty room. Theroom had a Vanilla AirWick plugged into the wall, to cover up a smell inthe room of rotting garbage. That night we ate dinner at the hotel, theybrought plates out with no silverware and the food was gross. Theseafood was chewy and tasted like overdone chicken, not lobster. Saladwith no dressing or flavor, The total bill was $65 with a mandatory tipincluded. That evening I fell ill, my husband is a Medical Practitionerin the usa and he thought I may have Dengue Fever. In the morning Itried to take a warm shower to feel better but after 30 seconds ofturning on the shower the water shut off and never went back on. Eventhe sink did not produce any water. My Husband went to the front desk toexplain what happened and see if we could cancel our reservation to gethome (we still has 5 nights and I was very ill). The lady with longblack hair at the front desk was extremely rude and started trying todiagnose my symptoms as minor and told my husband she could cancel ourreservation but with no refund. She had no sympathy and told my husbandit was not an emergency. Then he explained the water being shut off inour room and she had no apologies or concern, just sent someone up tofix it. Never any follow-up from Management about the water or how I wasfeeling. They had no compassion or even seemed to care if we werecomfortable. We saw a Doctor in Tulum and confirmed I had Dengue Fever. We let the front desk know we would be checking out two days early andchanged our flights to get home. The man at the front desk (shaved head, slender, mid aged man) started doubting what we told him, he did not actthe least bit concerned or show any compassion and instead just said:" I will have to check with my manager and see what we cando". A few more things to note:- We paid $270 per night, whichaccording to all the nice photos on booking etc...seems like a greatdeal. It was deceiving.

Review 16:The hotel sits on a beautiful beach

Review 17:Not much - no hairdryer (just dried hair naturally) so not a problem and restaurant service could be better accuracy of what is on offer on breakfast menu and what you can choose

Review 18:Loved this hotel. Simple design small and intimate with lovely little pool right on the beach

Review 19:They allow to smoke at the restaurant and keep the ashtrays at the tables so if it bothers you to eat with cigarette smoke (we do), you would need to ask politely to stop or move. Also, we were expecting a more Eco friendly approach (no straws, not so many plastic water bottles) from the hotel, but that would be something worth to explore since Tulum is an amazing place that unconscious tourism can ruin very fast.

Review 20:I believe this hotel owners are the same from Rosa Del viento, which is a great place too. The beach was beautiful although the situation with the algae is still on going. The staff is very nice, and the rooms are clean and pretty. Keep in mind the difference between ocean view and ocean front at the time you choose your room.

Review 21:The major downside to our stay was the restaurant. Whilst the food was good we had a number of bad experiences. Some times we were charged a service charge, sometimes not, we were short changed. Our breakfast took 55 minutes one of the mornings. We ordered a tomato ravioli, specially said no seafood as there was also a lobster one, the food came it was vey hard to decifer what actually was in the ravioli, on leaving we were charged 250 pesos, the price of the lobster ravioli when I queried the price as the tomatoe one was substantially cheaper they said they never done a tomatoe one, just gave me the lobster one despite my specific order. I understand it's a new hotel but the restaurant really needs to up its game.

Review 22:The bed was very comfy. The was also good shower facilities.

Review 23:If you are looking for a TV in the room and tons of drawer space, this isn't the right hotel. It's simple, but not as eco-friendly and minimal as many of the others in the area, nice middle ground.

Review 24:The location was amazing, and just what we were looking for. Walk out of your room and right onto the beach. Nice and contained space with plenty of room, peace and quiet. And a short walk down the beach in either direction to tons of bars and restaurants. All the top rated restaurants are a quick cab ride away. The staff is super helpful and nice, and the free breakfast is a nice treat. Not the most amazing meal you'll ever have, but it's free and gets your day started.

Review 25:We made the mistake of eating at the hotel restaurant. There were very few Mexican options on the menu. The orange juice was low-quality from concentrate stuff - that set the tone. The fritto misto was nasty and stodgy. Disorganised and surly waiting staff. Breakfast was quite stingy - just one dish each, so you had to choose between fruit and eggs. The bread served with breakfast was stale. If you don't have a car and don't want to cycle at night on the rental bikes that don't have lights, there aren't that many alternative restaurants within walking distance. If you walk to them, the road is very dark with minimal street lighting. The pool was quite small. The decor in the rooms felt budget rather than minimalist.

Review 26:The hotel is on a beautiful strip of beach. The staff maintain this well, removing seaweed. It's within walking distance of at least one good restaurant. Very comfortable bed. The rooms are quiet.

Review 27:The beach was very dirty- trash everywhere. I'm sure this is not the hotels fault. But it is a consideration... I'm sure the whole beach suffers from this problem

Review 28:Absolutely loved this place!!!

Review 29:The management is very arrogant and not at all understanding. We where planning to return to Viento de Mar after a very pleasant stay earlier during our holiday. When we came back however, Lucy was at reception and tried to charge us a much higher rate than we agreed on with Markos earlier. It was late, pouring and we were there with our baby so we had no choice to accept the rate and check in for 1 night. The other 'surprise' was waiting when we entered the room; for this steep price they had not even been able to provide waterproof rooms.... Everything was soaked and as Lucy was only yelling at us 'don't expect any discounts' we had no choice but to wipe the water up with some towels and to get out there asap. According to the nice guy at reception the next day Markos would definately contact us to hear how to solve the issue but we have not heard from him since. Viento de Mar is a very nice place but unfortunately, with the most arrogant and uncaring receptionists ever who leave you literally in the rain, even with a baby. Don't go there, there are many nice places around!!!

Review 30:The staff in the restaurant were great

Review 31:Just because I like to give constructive criticism and not because it would deter me from coming back, it would be nice if there were little foot/sand rinsing pools at the bottom of the steps in front my of the rooms. Also, the restaurant was not as inviting in the evening for dinner, as it was stark and too brightly lit. The view is spectacular, they just need to work on atmosphere a bit.

Review 32:Viento De Mar delivered on all fronts. The service was great (front desk; Marcos and Xander(sp?), restaurant; Santos, Raias et al), views spectacular, cleanliness good, etc. We rented bikes to get around town, very centrally located with lovely white sand beach.

Review 33:It's true the sea is full of seaweed, and it isn't turquoise anymore. The beach is dirty and it seems the hotel doesn't clean the garbage that gets stocked on the seaweed. :(

Review 34:Great location, great staff. Clean and spacious rooms. Good breakfast included. It has a pool that was perfect to refresh as the sea is not great for swimming. We asked for late check out, but they said the hotel was full and they didn't let us to stay at the room, but we could stay at the hotel facilities for the day. Not that bad.

Review 35:Interior in the room is very minimalistic. Hotel is renewed and not new. We expected a 5 * hotel which was not the case and we missed a outdoor shower.

Review 36:Staff is trying very hard. Food in the restaurant is very good. Rooms are spacious.

Review 37:the seaweed and garbage the ocean was spitting out, but thats not the hotels fault , its humanity's ;)

Review 38:evrything. Service was amaaaazing, specially Marcos in the front desk, he was SUPERB. someone give that guy s a raise! the bungalows..oh man, we stayed at number 5, on the beach..could not possibly be cosier. Bed was probably PERFECT, sooooo comfortable, it was a super quiet place, everything was amazing!!! The restaurant and food. Oh man!! It can be a tad pricier, but its worth it. And if you want more variety, theres plenty more down the road. Recommend Juanita Diavola. superb pizzas, and pasta, and drinks..

Review 39:beaches are beautiful. staff could do a better job of cleaning seaweed in front of hotel but also the seaweed and trash on vacant lot next door to restaurant. Nothing like eating a nice meal and looking out over all the trash next door. One or two times I stood at the reception desk to ask a question / recommendation for dining (I was the only one there while the girl was on computer)... it took her a few minutes to acknowledge me (hello?! I'm the only one here!) Could have been more helpful to person standing in front of them vs. the computer work she was doing (uh, gee, thanks Facebook). other than that she was helpful

Review 40:very laid back. quiet (other than some construction noise - hammering) understood as they are still very new resort. Marcos the GM is a jewel! Very helpful and caring.

Review 41:Lack of storage in bedrooms which we understand id being addressed, no hairdryer as standard. Teathing troubles due to recent opening.

Review 42:Stripped backed ambiance, friendly hard working staff, particuarly front of house team Marcos & Lucia.

Review 43:The floor in the Lobby and in our room was wet due to rain. The beach was not very clean. We booked a beachfront room, but the room was kind of in the back, so not really what we expected. At least we could cancel our booking after one night.

Review 44:The location is great, directly at the beach. Nice view from the restaurant.

Review 45:This is not a luxury accommodation - if you are looking for luxury, Tulum in general is not the best place. However it was very nice in comparison to the other hotels. The windows were a bit leaky from the wind and although it was very very clean, it was not luxurious. There were no chairs to relax in, in the room.

Review 46:This was a great location deserted on both sides directly on the beach. Staff was wonderful and took very good care of the guests. Bed was very comfortable and the room was quite nice. It was kept clean and there was a beautiful veranda with chairs and a hammock with a spectacular view of the ocean. The beach was well appointed with tanning beds and chairs.

Review 47:We loved everything about this hotel! The rooms (clean and comfortable bed), facilities (beautiful pool), location and especially the wonderful and very helpful staff (Marcus and the whole team are the best!) You really get a lot more than what you paid for in this place! We sure did! It's like a 5 star hotel without the 5 star hotel price! We will surely be back in Tulum and will definitely stay at Viento de Mar again and again and again!

Review 48:There's sand everywhere. The hotel is not paved at all. it's part of the place but I really don't like that kind of thing.

Review 49:The location is great and the hotel is beautiful

Review 50:There seemed to be only one CD so the music was way too repetitive. Please change the music a bit.

Review 51:The location is great, the hotel is brand new and has been done in a beautiful way. It's super clean and rooms/beds are very comfortable. We had chosen a room with partial sea view and it didn't disappoint: we were right in front of the swimming pool with ocean view in the background. Staff was extremely nice. The breakfast was not amazing but good and we even had a free fruit of platter the last day!

Review 52:Everything was great.

Review 53:The staff are super friendly and extremely accommodating based on your travel needs - they really make you feel welcome. The breakfast is delicious and you're spoilt for choice. The rooms and beach club have a beach chic vibe - as its recently opened everything feels clean and new. Great location.

Review 54:The service of front desk very poor, the rooms are so simple, they can improve in guest services much more

Review 55:The beach it's awesome

Review 56:Great location, right on the beach. The hotel looks so new and well maintained.

Review 57:Need of staff, service was slow

Review 58:Location, beautiful beach, nice and clean room, good restaurant and beach club

Review 59:Nothing really, the restaurant is not that waauuuww but it's more than good enough

Review 60:It's soo pretty! ZEN style, stylish, really nice staff,

Review 61:Nothing

Review 62:Tulum is an amazing place. I would go back anytime.

Review 63:Rooms were simpl clean and comfortable. Beach was amazing. Staff was wonderful.

Review 64:Perfect location on the water!

Review 65:The room is big, but no furniture in it. The seaweed on the shore and the stormy waves disappointed us to great extent...

Review 66:Nice new small place.

Review 67:We liked everything! Great location, friendly staff, never crowded, close to other popular places!

Review 68:Gorgeous location on the beach

Review 69:Water was lukewarm. No hairdryer for the wife.

Review 70:The simplicity and minimalist concept.

Review 71:Restaurant close early at night

Review 72:The place
