Reviews for Grande Real Villa Italia

Review 1:Some of the spa reception staff not very helpful. No smiles or goodwill for some of them. I tried to make appointment for a massage and first they said all is fully booked for several days. No one called me back in the room, only after going few times they found a place in my last day in the hotel. The cleaning was done sometimes very late after lunch in the room, but generally they were very efficient. Some staff at restaurant in the evening not aware of their advertised offers (second main dish at half price for certain meals in their list, which they had on some flyers, had to check with several of them to confirm).

Review 2:Great staff, especially in the restaurants. They all knew our names by end of our trip and they loved our baby son. Good food for breakfast. Spa treatments also very nice. You can park for free in the street near hotel.

Review 3:No bad experience, but we ate in the hotel on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and felt that the restaurant food did not live up to the exceptionally high quality of the rest of the hotel. Also it seemed a bit odd to charge residents for use of the pool.

Review 4:Beautiful room overlooking the sea. Massive, comfortable bed. Staff excellent. Champagne and Russian vodka on ice at breakfast! High quality smoked salmon.

Review 5:Although it was our choice to have Christmas Lunch buffet, we went down too late as we were lead to believe that it would be on for 2 hours but we would have chosen the ala cart dinner in the evening in stead but this was a very minor point.

Review 6:The hotel and staff were amazing, the Christmas Eve Gala dinner was great and excellent value for money.

Review 7:The hotel has a 5 star status that I don’t feel represents what I experienced. When we booked we had a "deluxe room" allocated. The only requirement I had was to be in a quiet room but, though the room was massive (hence the "deluxe"), it was located overlooking the parking/service entry, with poor views over the entry area. We were awoken by a sudden noise coming from what it looked to be upstairs, that was at 11:30 pm. I called reception and they informed me it was from a restaurant moving tables. I was told that they would stop immediately but 10 minutes later the noise was still happening. In the morning I was woken up at 8 am by a number of cars and vans loading and unloading stuff and also by some members of the staff making their way into the hotel with "loud and amicable" greetings. I would have rather had a smaller room overlooking the sea... much nicer and probably quieter and more into the "deluxe" category. The room had stains in the carpet that even if it was clean, did not look like this. but still the elevated price of the room did not match the experience we had

Review 8:The staff was very friendly and professional,

Review 9:The bed's Mattress not to my liking.

Review 10:Large, beautifully decorated, clean room. We selected the wonderful sea view. Large bathrrom with double sinks, separate commode area, shower stall, and separate tub with shower (rare find in a hotel). All Staff most pleasant!! The breakfast buffet featured many hot & cold items. Room had a nice size balony to enjoy.

Review 11:The outdoor area has a major problem with pigeons and seaguls being a nuisance during meals. Not aceptable.

Review 12:Very good location and a high quality hotel. Breakfast is top notch. Several restaurants for lunch and dinner.

Review 13:The Staff was extremely helpful with all of our needs. Our Ocean Front Corner Suite was lovely. It met all of our expectations for Luxury, Privacy & Comfort. The food was Excellent & Presented with Creativity.

Review 14:It's an expensive hotel but not prohibitively so and I would definitely book again (funds permitting). The only criticism I can possibly come up with might be the absence of a tea-making facilities in the room, but a kettle and all the usual tea and coffee gubbins was all made available on request so it doesn't really count. The outdoor pool was pretty darned cold but it was almost November so I certainly don't hold that against the hotel, plus the hot spa complex with steam room, sauna and various bubblejet pool features in the basement more than compensated for the brief stint in cold water - my lady and I spent a good three hours chillaxing in the spa for a deep reheat afterwards and enjoyed it so much we paid extra for another day in the spa later in the week. Main criticism.. we didn't want the dream to end and we were very sad to wave goodbye to the hotel at the end of our holiday.

Review 15:Fantastic Thalasso spa facility, delicious almond&cinnamon cake and the best macchiato lattes in town, big luxurious rooms and mahoosive 10' wide king-sized beds, opulent interiors worthy of Cleopatra, 10 minutes walk from Cascais town, very attentive staff who made sure to guarantee our comfort & enjoyment at all times, wonderful sea views with huge cashing waves in some places, a fantastic little nature park next door with an interesting variety of bird life that is unperturbed by humans walking up close and personal among them. I can't recommend this place enough and although we were only there for a week on a straightforward holiday it looked and felt like it would be the perfect honeymoon venue.

Review 16:Needs brighter light bulbs - so dark. cream carpets need a clean! touch up of paint needed in places. Breakfast good first morning, second morning I had to wait 30 mins for a egg benetict and it was due we were told to a mix up. Staff were apologetic but..... Watching it happening with someone else on our third morning!

Review 17:room size and friendly extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 18:At times the car valet takes a bit longer than I'd expect. All Valet are excellent otherwise.

Review 19:We've stayed in this hotel before and love the location and the whole feel of the hotel. The views are gorgeous too. All staff are super friendly and helpful - nothing is too much effort. They were particularly attentive and sensitive to my mom's gluten intolerance which made her stay that little bit nicer.

Review 20:The location was great for access to the cycle and walk way along the cliffs as well as into town. The room was very comfortable and clean and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 21:Imagine that you book a room for a couple of friends as a gift for their 25th wedding anniversary. The reservation is done through booking.com, so a credit card number is provided and you write in the comment box everything about this being an offer for that special occasion and so on. Still, just to be sure you send an email directly to the hotel explaining it step by step again, how this is an offer and that they should charge given CC for the stay and under no circumstance should the guests be bothered with of informed of any amounts. You get a reply confirming that everything is going to be done according to my request. Excitement is building up as the date approaches and you just want everything to be perfect and memorable for these dear friends. The day comes and at around 12:00 you get the dreaded message :"They charged us for the stay at check-out". And that was it, nobody followed up on my request, reception staff just can't be bothered to use some common sense and a perfectly planned offer is ruined by the hotel's sheer incompetence. If this is what can be expected from a 5 star hotel, then we do just as well booking a 3 star. Truth be told, after talking to them, they did cancel the charge on my friend's card and charged mine, as they should have. And they did apologise. Still...

Review 22:Not sure they should charge for the spa if they are a 5 star hotel and call themselves a spa. The cost was $20 euros per visit.

Review 23:Wonderful hotel, great room, breakfast and located in a good area. We were allocated a wonderful room and enjoyed our stay

Review 24:I have to say I'm used to having tea/coffee facilities in my hotel room, so I did miss this. Although room service was available 24/7, I normally drink a lot of tea!

Review 25:Lovely quiet, but reasonably big hotel. The rooms were excellent, with large bathrooms & balconies. Our's had a beautiful sea view. Staff were friendly & always eager to help, remembering who we were & how we took our coffee etc. Excellent food at breakfast & dinner. The housekeeping staff were the best I've encountered. Everything was spotless throughout our stay. Nice spa & pool. The hotel is located just a short walk from the town of Cacais, with beaches, cafés etc. and regular trains into Lisbon. If staying longer I'd hire a car, but none was needed for our long weekend as there was ample to do.

Review 26:We did not have a bad experience. I would comment on two items , one of which is easily improved. The toaster at breakfast does not toast the bread in reasonable time. From our room we periodically heard considerable noise that sounded like chairs being moved on a hard floor , but which might have been the water system.

Review 27:The hotel facilities ,the staff and the food are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff , who give every support. We had a very comfortable superior room , with a sea view.

Review 28:This was my third visit and found overall service poor to my surprise and disappointment , especially at breakfast , plenty staff but lack of customer service.

Review 29:Location and privacy

Review 30:No chocolate on the pillow for 2 of the 4 nights but maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.

Review 31:The location was excellent for the town , with a variety of eating places . Train station reasonably near by for a train into Lisbon. Enjoyable walks along the coastline

Review 32:Booked superior room, was disappointed that it didn't, have balcony, know I didn't book sea view( due to cost) but did expect balcony.

Review 33:Lovely at relaxed hotel, staff friendly but not intrusive. Wonderful breakfast.

Review 34:They did not have any rooms so we couldnt stay another night

Review 35:Everything; location, the rooms, the staff, 10 minute walk to town, the pool is superb, the other guests

Review 36:One very small gripe, hard to get a cup of coffee at breakfast as the staff served the coffee but also had to set tables and were otherwise busy. Suggest coffee could be self service like the rest of the breakfast.

Review 37:The hotel was excellent, the room was lovely, on the corner of the hotel with two small balconies and a good sized bathroom. Lovely pool area and the staff were very friendly.

Review 38:Drinks in the bar overpriced. Presence of pigeons and seagulls on the terrace and in the pool, but the staff was trying to chase them away

Review 39:Perfect location, close to downtown, 15 min. walk.Very friendly staff, phantastic room with balcony in the Villa D'Este. Very clean. Great breakfast with a good choice, but waiting time for tea a bit long. Good service at the pool.

Review 40:The presence of pidgeons and a seagul on the vacant tables on the patio scavaging for food while people are eating. No recliners on bedroom balcony

Review 41:The comfort and the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel and the pleasantnes of the staff

Review 42:We had read that it was difficult securing a spot near the pool due to high numbers but we did not find this at all. The area around the pool is huge and there is ample room for those seeking a tan or some shade!

Review 43:Everything! The resort was sublime, the staff were always kind, caring and catered to our every needs. The facilities were fantastic - I would highly recommend taking advantage of the underground spa complex! The restaurants and bar areas were also lovely and the distance to the main town was great, perhaps a 10 minute walk on a slow day! I would highly recommend staying at the Grand Real if you are after a relaxing week by the sea.

Review 44:The ambience and facilities were excellent. Amazingly friendly and helpful staff from the managers to the general staff. We will definitely be back!

Review 45:Only slightly negative comment would be that breakfast was very busy (we tried a few different times) and anything ordered took a while to arrive.

Review 46:Staff were very helpful. Size of Deluxe Room easily big enough for us and our 4 year old boy.

Review 47:Leaving the hotel at the end of our holiday.

Review 48:Probably the best holiday hotel I have stayed at anywhere. The staff, food and facilities are amazing about to book for a new year break I was that impressed and I am a seasoned traveller.

Review 49:this hotel is supposed to be a five star I never seen the pool tested, to small a pool for the amount of kids and people there. pool seats had no covers mesh wiring not comfortable. No supervision at pool children splashing and service not great

Review 50:Staff and food were good

Review 51:Food for children is expensive I paid 9 euros for a toasted cheese sandwich for my 1 year old! Most of which ended up on the floor.

Review 52:Staff can't do enough to help. Especially travelling with young children and make life as easy as possible. In the spa I also had a massage with the best therapist Sandra who I have ever been to!

Review 53:Poor orientation and poor facilities around pool area.We were wrongly fully accused by a female manager at breakfAst one morning of booking sun beds in front of other diners , tone used was intimidating and unacceptable. We did not feel comfortable around the pool after this accusation.this was such a pity as we had found all other staff members to be very helpful and welcoming.

Review 54:Room and views were v good in a great location Size of hotel was v good and v clean. Majority of staff were exceptionally helpful . Belvedere restaurant was a revaluation to us , food, service , style and staff lovely.

Review 55:The breakfast has lots available but it is poor quality. The hotel damaged our car in their garage but denied it and would not allow us to see the CCTV footage.

Review 56:The staff were supe helpful and friendly. The spa is very good.

Review 57:Booked on booking.com. Got to hotel and was informed that the room was now 200 Euro extra per night because of the extra child that could not be accomodated in the room that booking.com allowed me to book? Furniture in room getting old. Minibar fridge dirty, bed not so comfortable. We stayed at the Miragem a few days before and you can not compare the two hotels. The Miragem is really 5 star. This hotel should be 4 star with 4 star prices.

Review 58:Breakfast was good. Rooms spacious.

Review 59:Pool could probably be doing with been heated but overall a really good hotel

Review 60:Friendliness of all staff probably the best I've came across and I've stayed in a lot of hotels throughout the world!

Review 61:All your staff were very friendly and attentive. Pedro, Mugurel and I think Noono ( bar attendant on first floor) were exceptional. It was good to see Pedro had been promoted and I am sure he will go far. This was our fourth year of visits and we are already planning our next one.

Review 62:Hotel hairdresser uncommunicative with poor hairdressing skills. Not to be recommended. My wife was very upset about her experience in the hotel salon.

Review 63:Extremely competent and friendly staff. Excellent food.

Review 64:Unfortunately while we where there the wifi was not so good so found it rather frustrating when trying to FaceTime or check emails.

Review 65:Staff were excellent one in particular was Sandra who was very helpful and attentive.

Review 66:To get to the beach there it was a far walk. We stayed at the pool because of that. The bed was not very comfortable.

Review 67:The room upgrade was perfect! The pool was amazing as well as the staff!

Review 68:My stay was too short

Review 69:A truly deluxe hotel. Wonderful setting, excellent staff. Room was very spacious and comfortable. Bathroom great. Pool area and outdoor bar restaurant are perfect settings.

Review 70:It's a bit of a walk into town 15 minutes, but a taxi is only five euros,

Review 71:Every detail of a five star hotel... Excellent. All staff were professional.

Review 72:Could not find fault with anything.

Review 73:This hotel is absolutely wonderful and can honestly say this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The breakfast is outstanding. We cannot praise the staff highly enough, nothing is too much trouble and will go out of their way to make your experience memorable . We will definitely be returning to this fantastic hotel.

Review 74:A fabulous 5* hotel where the staff go an extra mile to make sure that you enjoy your stay. We stayed for six nights and got a royal treatment, an unexpected upgrade and fabulous service throughout our stay.

Review 75:Staff is amazing, so kind and helpful! Breakfast was very good! Hotel decoration was beautiful and rooms are very big/comfortable, well equipped. Really enjoyed our stay and we will be definitely coming back! This was the best hotel we have ever stayed. :)

Review 76:We had the vacance booked with half board. While the breakfast was excellent, the dinner or lunch where "à la carte" and took always very long time to have the starter, main course and the dessert. Coming at dinner at 19:30, the dessert arrived after 22:00. The children from our group were going to sleep, disappointed to miss the dessert. We spent more than 3 hours just sitting on chairs in the restaurant. So I would highly recommend to avoid half board. There are many good restaurants nearby the hotel and you could have more diversified evenings. Many rooms do not have balcony, which was our case. Despite the general comfort of the room, we missed the balcony.

Review 77:Diversified and excellent quality of breakfast, spacious and comfortable rooms, the staff parking your car and bringing it in front of the hotel entrance when needed. The staff in general is very friendly, really helpful and trying their best to satisfy the customers. Special thanks to Teresa from Reception and to Mugurel from restaurant.

Review 78:The slowness of the service sometimes

Review 79:The greatest and nicest staff ever. We felt like family in this fantastic resort, wonderful location, superb sea view, heated pool, great spa facilities, great food. Best value for money when you are on half board. Again fantastic staff that treat every guest like VIP. Our 2nd time there, certainly not last.

Review 80:Not necessarily a negative, however if i could change one thing - I would ask suggest that the gym be open before 8 am. I like to get my fitness in early perhaps 7am is a better time. :)

Review 81:The staff are wonderful, helpful, kind and helped to make our holiday a great experience.

Review 82:The minibus into town was convenient but was not used a lot by residents hence the service did not operate on a regular basis. Also the drop off and pick up point was next to the cathedral--the highest point in town so a bit of a trek.

Review 83:We loved the location and all of the facilities. Very relaxing by the river with stunning views. All the staff were extremely helpful We had a standard room which was very spacious and comfortable-stunning breakfast !!

Review 84:We had a great room and hotel staff went out of their way to make my birthday weekend treat with my daughter extra special. The two hours we spent in the spa pool and having massage/facial treatments were heavenly!

Review 85:Should have smaller custard tarts for breakfast - not the big ones (I know comment is ridiculous - but absolutely nothing I didn't like and this is really the only thing I come up with that I would improve). I am quite a demanding person but hotel is just great.

Review 86:Size and quality of the rooms ! Great bed; great views and location, great breakfast and pool

Review 87:staff were wonderful hotel was beautiful I cannot find fault with anything. I stayed there for 2days in may 2015 and it was a real treat. best hotel i have stayed in .

Review 88:Set in a stunning location, this hotel provides an all round five star experience without being in the least pretentious. We left feeling truly relaxed.

Review 89:• la piscine extérieur était très froide.

Review 90:•Petit déjeuner Buffet, impeccable et très copieux! • upgradé car voyage avec bebe, chambre immense! Le personnel est très serviable et arrangeant.

Review 91:Bath had a knee high wide step to get over.

Review 92:Deluxe double room. Great staff at reception and at breakfast, always extra helpful. Turn down service which cleaned up your belongings also. Expansive, huge breakfast, cereal, bread, cold cuts, hot dishes, which you could have next to the pool. About 15 minute walk into town, and 5 minutes the other way to the inferno

Review 93:There was nothing I didn't like!

Review 94:Luxurious but relaxed; fantastic breakfast and wonderful staff. Great location; overlooking he sea, short walk in to town and to the station with 40 minute journey to Lisbon. I hope to return

Review 95:It was very windy and there was something banging with the wind making noise. We told reception to let maintenance know to see if they could fix it, but nothing was done.

Review 96:Very polite staff.

Review 97:The is very little to dislike, this is an excellent hotel which is unlikely to disappoint. However, the internet access is sometimes slow and access to the spa costs extra.

Review 98:Very helpful, multilingual staff. Nice pool and public areas. Good breakfasts. Quiet location just outside central Cascais, but close enough to walk in.

Review 99:We travel to Portugal frequently but this is our first time staying at villa Italian... But it will not be the last! The staff are friendly but efficient and professional. Any request was never a problem and was always delt with accurately. The hotel itself was very comfortable and lacked nothing. From the time we checked in (awesome reception staff who make it their business to know your name) to the wonderful afternoon teas to a ridiculously early check out time ( where staff saw us off, offered us a bite to eat , etc) the hotel deserves its 5 star rating! We will definitely stay there again when we return to Portugal next. Thanks for an awesome stay!

Review 100:As it was a 5 star hotel your paying 5 star prices, €8 for a large beer was a bit of a shock! U also have a to pay to use the spa facilities, €20 for 3 hours I think which I would have expected to be free for hotel guests.

Review 101:We booked 6 months in advance so got a great deal, room was fab, beds are huge & very comfy! Staff are really pleasant, they semd us a bottle of bubbles as a treat on arrival as it was our anniversary. Breakfast is yum, very varied inc bubbles if u fancy it! Pool area & sun beds are great.

Review 102:Avoid restaurant for dinner - extremely bad!

Review 103:Beautiful location, amazing room with ocean view, the bathroom is the work of art (and functional too). Breakfast is excellent with the best quality products, and everything you can think of.

Review 104:The Pool area could do with a little updating even changing the old rust colored towels would make a huge impact. The service was inconsistent .When they were good they were very good but we had a few occasions where it was very poor.also the television was on the whole time and you could see it when you were in the dining room..move it into the bar or somewhere less prominent. nobody was watching it anyway.

Review 105:excellent food, most of the staff were extremely friendly, bedrooms were lovely and absolutely spotless.

Review 106:Travelling with an 11 month old, we were quite restricted in evening meal options - we would have been very happy if we could have ordered room service from the bar menu after 6pm (the daily menu and grand carte were available, but we would have preferred the lighter / snackier bar menu, but that was only available 12 - 6pm). The Wifi speed in the room was not very fast.

Review 107:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, without exception. The balcony was huge, fantastic view over the lake.

Review 108:The staff were helpful and always had a smile. The location is perfect. Close to enough to the center of town but far enough to feel like your away from it all.

Review 109:The breakfast choices is a bit limited compare to a other five star hotel. The hot breakfast is tasty though. The wifi in the room is weak, but strong in the bathroom and the balcony.

Review 110:The service in overall is excellent very responsive. Very friendly staffs. We loved the room and the balcony, could be better if it is in a higher floor so we could see the sea a bit more.

Review 111:Very slow food (probably because there was a big group function going on whilst we were there, which seemed to take priority over our smaller group's food).

Review 112:Lovely setting, pool area very nice.

Review 113:Its not a bad experience just a warning that as its truely a 5 star hotel, anything purchased within the hotel has a fairly steep price to it. so just either go with the flow or purchase your food and drinks elsewhere instead as the town is close by. Oh there's no kettle in the room!

Review 114:SPA facilities lovely and always made to feel welcome. Nothing was a problem for them and they loved to get a solution to your needs. Nice views and great facilities. In general probably the most consistant friendly staff I has ever experienced,

Review 115:Only negative point was the window black-out.

Review 116:The room and Hotel enviroment. Staff is also very helpfull. Breakfast near the pool was also one of the high points

Review 117:To pay for parking in a 5-star hotel, when there is free parking just outside the main gate was strange.

Review 118:Simply amazing. Great location, great facilities, wonderful breakfast. Great staff. No time to try the SPA, but will do it next time.

Review 119:Too far (long walk) from a beach. Food was poor and little variety Bed was appalling and most uncomfortable. Although the spa itself is nice, the spa treatment was sub-standard.

Review 120:The hotel decor. Cleanliness

Review 121:You need to install an indoor pool that doesn t charge 20 euro for thefacility of using a salt water pool.

Review 122:Excellent staff who were happy to help.

Review 123:There is a beautiful pool for swimming and sunbathing but unfortunately during our stay there was a corporate conference taking place in the room beside the pool. Large groups of corporate clients on their laptops are not what you want to be surrounded by when you're on a romantic break. Other than that I could not fault the hotel. We would highly recommend it and will be back again next year.

Review 124:We received an upgrade when we checked in which we were thrilled with. The reception and door staff could not do enough for us. Breakfast was first class, with lots of tasty options. The room was spacious with great views. Our room was spotless everyday when we returned from sightseeing.

Review 125:No help with luggage.Gave us a room with no view (we always stay in a room view sea or swimming pool), with a very smal WC... We had to change and pay high tax. Very disappointed. Never go there again.

Review 126:The staff surprised my husband with a birthday cake, at breakfast...

Review 127:Pigeons on the terrace!

Review 128:Arriving after a very delayed flight to the most superb service was very welcome and this continued throughout the stay. Excellent room, attentive staff and brilliant breakfasts.

Review 129:The SPA is not included in the price and is limited to the 25-30 minute circuit. Many hotels far below this price have comparable SPAs which can be used all day long and are included.

Review 130:The rooms, the staff and the saltwater pool were amazing. Room service was fast and extremely high-quality. Globally the hotel oozes a restful aura and is perfect for a luxurious getaway.

Review 131:The ambience of the hotel was very relaxing, the staff were outstanding and could not do enough for us. There was always a smile on all the staffs face 24/7. It was a pleasure to stay there. Cascais itself is beautiful but i feel it is more suited to the 50plus age group.

Review 132:Room was not serviced during our stay. Returned at 4pm having been out all day and still not done. Housekeeping knocked on door at 10pm asking to service!

Review 133:Location was great. Lovely breakfast with attentive staff, outside pool area lovely. Helpful reception staff.

Review 134:Wifi did not allow us to access US based Magic Jack VOIP carrier, apparently the hotel blocks certain sites. We missed an important call from our ailing parent in the states and could not call out using Magic Jack.

Review 135:Level of service was top notch They helped us confirm our car rental and stored our large bags over the weekend while we drove up to Porto Excellent wine selection and expertise at the bar.

Review 136:No negatives about this hotel

Review 137:My friend and I went for just a short break and we both felt the hotel exceeded our expectations. The accommodation was amazing and provided everything you needed and more. Delicious buffet breakfast. The staff were warm and friendly and went to great lengths to ensure we had everything we needed and to make our stay perfect. The location is ideal and an easy walk into the centre for restaurants and beaches and a beautiful area to stay in. The pool at the hotel was lovely, never crowded and plenty of sun loungers without feeling you had to get there early to book one! Fantastic hotel for short or long breaks and I would definitely recommend.
