Reviews for Senhora da Guia Cascais Boutique Hotel

Review 1:- First day I arrived, was no electricity. - Second day was no WiFi. - When checking out, the card machine is not compatible with all bank cards, so I need to go to ATM to withdrew cash which cost me lot of money (for taxi, and for withdrew chash).

Review 2:The working staff was so good and and helpful.

Review 3:Some noise (but it was new years..).

Review 4:Like the way the staff handled problems with our room and upgraded us. Loved the view. Lovely room. Outstanding staff.

Review 5:Way overrated and too expensive for such poor facilities. Lekkeage in the minibar and shower room. The double room is way too small for 2 people with a young child despite of the extra bed. No free coffee no coffee maker no water boiler in the room. They charge for this. Rediculous. The breakfast is way too simple. Not many choices. You pay too much for this poor quality. Despite of its great sea view and kind service: it's still 3-4 km away from the downtown Cascais. Definitely overrated!!!! This is a great hotel for old people who don't mind staying here the entire day. The food is not impressive at all. It's rated 5-star but it's more like a 2-stared hotel. NOT recommanded. A bloody turn-off of our visit in Cascais.

Review 6:Service is good.

Review 7:No bad experiences

Review 8:Attentive, engaging and most helpful staff. Great walks. Comfortable plush surroundings and one of the most relaxing holidays I've had.

Review 9:This hotel is in a fantastic location, the staff are so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. gorgeous little hotel, Molton Brown bath products and a first class service

Review 10:The bed was far too hard for me

Review 11:The location - just outside cascais but brilliant for cycling to Guincho and walking to the beautiful restaurants on the cliff

Review 12:Staff was great, location a bit away from the centers but every place was easy to get to. Hotel was very pretty. Breakfast was superb. We would stay there again.

Review 13:Even if you put up the DND sign on the door, your room will be serviced and rearranged. Not a dealbreaker but a bit annoying when you return having set the room up the way that works for you. Wifi is also patchy in areas of rooms and common areas.

Review 14:Small, classy hotel with mostly a mature clientele. Perfect place to go for a few days of relaxation, peace and quiet. Wonderful masseuse, fabulous view, very comfortable and chilled experience.

Review 15:The food was amazing, 10 out of 10 for both the evening meal and breakfast. A very relaxing atmosphere in the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. It was also a great location, just outside of Cascais, a short taxi ride away. The bedroom was very comfortable and had a lovely sea view with balcony. Hope to go back here some day ...

Review 16:Road noise around pool and restaurant areas. No bar atmosphere (never used by guests)

Review 17:Very helpful reception and staff generally. Rooms around higher pretty courtyard area best as ours was. Superb food

Review 18:Room was disappointing and drab. Beds were two singles pushed together. Staff at the restaurant seemed a bit overworked. It's not a boutique hotel and fell short of what we would expect from a five star hotel. Also €4,50 for a 0.2l bottle of water from the minibar is extortionate.

Review 19:Food at dinner and breakfeast was very good. Pool area and spa were comfortable, massage was excellent.

Review 20:There was a wedding going on at the same time and they were very noisy!! I went for a relaxing break but went off to another hotel during the day to get away from it. I understand why a wedding booking is important (and also lovely) but the hotel should have warned me. They also closed off the restaurants (you would be mad to eat there anyway), the pool and spa were full of drunk guests and I received no compensation or even a gesture of good will. I would definitely not recommend the hotel which is a shame as it would have been a lovely break.

Review 21:The staff were friendly (apart from one very rude waitress). It was a lovely little hotel but there was more wrong with the situation rather than the actual place.

Review 22:The restaurant has good food and wine, excellent service. However slightly over-priced.

Review 23:Professional, kind and efficient staff. Pool and garden in excellent condition. Very peaceful and beautiful place!

Review 24:The water for the shower was a little cold in the afternoon although my husband found it fine in the morning. Other than that amazing hotel !

Review 25:luxurious room, awesome pool, great staff and amazing food.

Review 26:We tried your hamburger at the sunset grill. And to our disapointment, it was not good at all. You had very few vegetarian dishes on your menues.

Review 27:Good breakfast with fresh fruits, different types of bread and yoghurt. Nice room and bathroom. The garden was very nice with big lawn and pretty flowers.

Review 28:The Staff were rude and very unhelpful (especially to first time visitors of Portugal). Whilst the room itself was nice, it was a long way out of the main town (1hr walk) and the hotel don't offer any kind of transport to help you get there.

Review 29:As long is this 5 star hotel doesn't decide whether it's a boutique hotel or a party center, I think the guest don't get value for money. All days we stayed there, the whole place was overcrowded with party guest in front of our room. Therefor we had no privacy. There was hardly place to sit for breakfast, most food was already gone by the time we came at the breakfast. One had to fight to claim a bed near the pool and most parasols we're needed for the weddings. When we complained about the inconvenience, the manager offered us a free dinner, which turned out to be of a poor quality.

Review 30:The pool and the bed. If it wasn't a party center as well it could be a good hotel.

Review 31:The Wi-Fi needs improvement but it wasn't awful. You need to inform your maid service that if the "do not disturb" sign is out all day that means don't clean the room.

Review 32:The staff, especially by the pool, is awesome.

Review 33:The hotel is rated 5 Star which at first look all seems correct however experienced problems with the desk staff. Were not treated graciously on arrival as expected for 5 Stars. Mislead several times about events and the quietness of the room. We reserved a deluxe room with ocean view at extra cost. Room was very nice overlooking the pool and could see the ocean across the main road however this part of the hotel was very noisy. Rooms are not sound proof. Much noise from lobby, restaurant, and adjoining room. Hotel hosts events such as weddings and birthday parties for locals. Unfortunately the first 2 of 3 night there were events which carried on until 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning. Bad start to our vacation. Third day we moved hotels. The general manager Mr Santos Carlos was very apologetic and did not charge for the 3 nights we stayed with them. This was very gracious of him and we thanked him for trying to make things correct however we still fell like we lost nearly 4 days of our holidays.

Review 34:Mixed feelings, this could have been a nice stay but the hotel was hosting events so it was very noisy. The facilities and location are in line with their rating however the service was not top notch as we were expecting from a 5 Star Boutique Hotel (mainly the professionalism of some of the staff. It is understanding that a small facility which is seasonal needs to generate other revenue however in my opinion this is not in line with a 5 Star facility to keep hotel guests stay most comfortable.

Review 35:The intermittent wifi and absence of English speaking TV (nice to have on in the mornings or whilst getting ready for the evening).

Review 36:The hotel, the location, the staff and the delicious food. Away from all the shops.

Review 37:In the scheme of things, only a minor problem. There was not a wifi signal in the room. Other areas including exteriors, a strong signal available.

Review 38:A beautiful location, right on the ocean. Atrractive gardens and lawns. Ample parking for all guests. The entire staff were welcoming and helpful. We will most definitely be returning.

Review 39:Very friendly and helpful staff, good rooms, excellent food and good, well maintained facilities. Location is fronted by a busy road but road noise not too bad.

Review 40:- Probably a personal feeling, we missed personality and atmsophere when using the restaurant and bar area. - Long waiting time to be able to make a reservation in the Spa

Review 41:- Spacious rooms, bright, with a balkony. - Clean - Friendly staff - Excellent breakfast with much choise of frech food. - Nice pool area - Spa area

Review 42:Service at reception was very luke warm. Although the staff was polite when you ask them questions, you get a sense that they were not all out to help you or do not really care of your wellbeing.

Review 43:The rooms were of good quality and very spacious.

Review 44:The carpet in the hallway and stairs was old and shabby , smelled a bit musty. It lets down the quality of the hotel . The management should replace the old carpets. Bathroom was a bit small

Review 45:The facilities were nice. Big pool and good gym . Lovely hotel lounge and bar. Our room was well furnished with nice touch like the Nespresso coffee machine . We enjoyed the sea outlook from the spacious deck of our room.

Review 46:Loud, over-the-top kid's birthday party booked for part of our stay. €10 glass of wine seems a little steep. Next to a busy, noisy roadway with a view of the ocean behind electric wires. A group of 10 children with little chaperoning running around the restaurant.

Review 47:Awesome breakfast. Nice pool and facilities. Fantastic dinner menu.

Review 48:Having to leave. But glad to leave early as The hotels owners 7 year old (Russian) son "Kiri" had huge birthday party overtaking large central garden on the AM we departed early due to the over abundance of screaming children

Review 49:Location. Staff restaurant & food better than excellent. Evening dinner meal elegant delicious reaonably priced for luxe quality food Even lobsters swimming happy in large aquarium at edge of kitchen with schooling fish seemed very much at home anticipating becoming someones next meal

Review 50:There is no safe place to walk from the street to the hotel entrance, you basically walk on the road. No elevator

Review 51:Lovely views from the room. Nice promenade outside the hotel. Breakfast has nice fresh selection

Review 52:I was with my elderly mother and it was totally unsuitable for her. Too many steps.

Review 53:The Hotel was spotless with a beautiful spa. The sunbeds at the pool were so comfortable and the hotel supplied clean towels every day.

Review 54:This hotel was wonderfully kept and housed an excellent staff. Amenities, spa facilities, and restaurant all located on site and were excellent. However, hotel is very isolated and a without a rental car, you would be very reliant on the hotel for all your needs. The beach is a 4km drive away, grocery store at least 2km, and other restaurants at least 1.5km away.

Review 55:the breakfast - many items would run out and the kitchen was slow to provide more..dinner snacks was honestly poor-for instance- the bagel for the hamburger was stale and the french fries were cold and it took some time to prepare the meal - too slow- guest rooms were too small...some bath room fixtures were broken - ants invaded the bath room - would not return to this hotel - Though spa was excellent - we would not return to this hotel...

Review 56:the service was very friendly and the location is great - very clean and the spa was excellent!

Review 57:I liked everything!

Review 58:I stayed in this hotel 26 years ago and loved it then. Although it has been updated it still retains the charm and beauty of the original house. Such a beautiful location 5 minutes drive from the town of Caiscais. A wonderful breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the garden and the sea. Highly recommend this hotel!

Review 59:Nothing to point.

Review 60:Everything, from incredibly kind and helpful staff , to facilities ( room, spa, breakfast), to the calm and comfort of watching the sea from your bed. Simply a great place, would absolutely recommend!

Review 61:Room dusty and covers on dining table sticky not washed no bacon on second morning and mini sausages not nice

Review 62:Staff friendly but overworked not enought on duty had to wait 1 and half hours to get main course

Review 63:Nothing really apart from the fact that it was chilly in the dining room at night and lacking in atmosphere because of the bright lighting.

Review 64:Had a sea view room with large balcony looking out on to the Atlantic Ocean. Despite the coast road being in between it was still magical. Enjoyed the food in the restaurant. I

Review 65:Poor quality food in expensive restaurant they ruin good food!! No basic food knowledge they can't cook!! Poor service in all areas No pool side service No bar service No ambient music anywhere in hotel unless requested to avoid uncomfortable quiet atmosphere Lazy untidy unhelpful staff Poor wifi signal Completely overpriced Not 5 star service

Review 66:Spa Location Rooms Pool Gardens Breakfast fine The luggage porter and the maids were fantastic, the other staff should take a lesson from them!!

Review 67:Appalling breakfasts. Food barely passable. Avoid weak coffee. No service! Charges for nespresso in room inappropriate for a five-star hotel. Warm welcome lacking from this establishment.

Review 68:Perfectly grilled sea bass dinner with expert advice regarding wine selection. Excellent service throughout dinner.

Review 69:We came down to breakfast a little late, tho we weren't the only ones to do so. Breakfast was being cleared at a fast rate of knots, understandably, but we felt the staff could have checked if we wanted anything before clearing the buffet.

Review 70:This is a gorgeous hotel in a wonderful setting - close to the sea, among pine forests. The staff were great - I had asked the hotel to recommend and make a booking for a special dinner, as my husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Not only did we get a fabulous restaurant, but the hotel left a bottle of champagne with fresh strawberries in our room! We felt very spoilt, and were very happy to have chosen this hotel to mark the occasion.

Review 71:The location IS NOT a walk to town, and no hotel shuttle, so cabs or bikes needed if you do not have car. Also a walk to alternative restaurants, half-mile, but worth it.

Review 72:Just about everything; the rest of the story follows...

Review 73:Room was cramped - we had booked a triple room, which was just a double room with a camp bed. Given we were charged 1.5 times the price of a double, this was not what I expected! Wi-fi did not work. Hot water failed one night - cold showers! Overall, a slight disappointment

Review 74:Location, public areas, pool area

Review 75:Wifi is basically non existent, showers are too low for persons over 1.85m.

Review 76:Very nice comfy rooms, well mantained complex with good atmosphere, wonderful service by all staff members, very good breakfast. bit out of the city center, but a 5 euro cab ride gets you there in no time.

Review 77:The location is great. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

Review 78:Mattress quality

Review 79:The spa The view

Review 80:staff very friendly sense of humour decor spa food fab

Review 81:Nice Location great food for a hotel Restaurant. Friendly and helpfull staff.

Review 82:Dinner was so, so

Review 83:Friendly staff

Review 84:Road noise

Review 85:Staff, food and location

Review 86:Lovely hotel with friendly staff in great position overlooking the ocean. Although it was a traditional hotel it felt fresh and modern.

Review 87:Road noise, flies really annoying inside the restauraunt

Review 88:Property located next to a very busy road so do not expect it be quiet by the pool

Review 89:Spa bit lacking, no proper Jacuzzi, not great lay out. Massage very good.

Review 90:Ran an awesome wedding for our friends

Review 91:None

Review 92:Great location. Quality.

Review 93:Wifi was patchy in the room.

Review 94:Wonderfull staff. Awesome spa facilities considering its size. Very homely.

Review 95:Its in a brilliant location with stunning view of the ocean

Review 96:Bathrooms are not easy as no place to put toiletries

Review 97:Restaurant, kindness, surroundings, quietness

Review 98:nice and quiet hotel, very friendly service, excellent breakfast buffet, close to Lisboa (easy to reach by train from Cascais)

Review 99:Could improve wifi, signal was intermittent.

Review 100:Spa and pool very relaxed, staff were very friendly. Great cocktails

Review 101:The staff are there when and only if you needed them. I was lucky and got an upgrade and it was fabulous.

Review 102:There was a musty smell to the room. A possible drainage/plumbing issue?

Review 103:No direct access to the beach, definitely need a car.

Review 104:Friendly staff, nice location, good breakfast (room), outside of busy Cascais.

Review 105:The spa, the serenity and the food

Review 106:The noise outside the room - some equipment which was on all night.

Review 107:The swimming pool and the spa.

Review 108:The relaxing ambiance.

Review 109:Everything.

Review 110:The hotel was not seen as a five-star

Review 111:The view, breakfast, the pool area

Review 112:Nothing to complain about it.

Review 113:Close to town and beaches.

Review 114:Wlan did not work most of the time, signal too weak

Review 115:Close to the sea, nice view and not overcrowded

Review 116:Location is out a little, but a short taxi ride to Cascais

Review 117:The peace and quiet. Staff very helpful and friendly. I look forward to my next visit there.

Review 118:Breakfast and pool staff not up to the standard of the hotel. Ran out of towels at the pool and did not let us know, we had to constantly ask and ended up going to the main desk.

Review 119:Desk staff were, and always are, great.

Review 120:The house next door has 2-3 dogs that barked ALL THE TIME. It was impossible to sit out on the lovely terrace, and to get any sleep we had to close all the windows and stuff our ears with ear-plugs. The manager said he would change our room after we had dinner, but when we went back he was nowhere to be found. The bedroom was much smaller than we expected for the price, though it was very nicely set up.

Review 121:Beautiful view of the ocean.

Review 122:Defenetly not a SPA center and not 5 star hotel. One of the sauna was always not working. Breakfast is not enough, no vegetables and very little of fruits.

Review 123:Nice and polite personnel. Beautiful sea view room.

Review 124:There was a WIFI problem and it took them a while to repair it. When we checked out early in the morning (630am), there was only the security guard at the reception. Other than that, it was great.

Review 125:Very nice hotel and great location.

Review 126:Terrible internet service, parts of the spa were out of order. We were disappointed the place was not on the water as led to believe in the pictures

Review 127:The setting was nice, it was close to downtown

Review 128:Our experience at the Hotel was amazing. Staff were very attentive, Specially Jose who was a star during our whole stay at Seghora Da Guia. A very quiet couples retreat with a great cuisine and superb facilities including the indoor pool with a jacuzzi ,the gym,the sauna ,the spa. We will definety come back here.
