Reviews for Estalagem Muchaxo Hotel
Review 1:The hotel is a little worn but if you are looking for a beach experience, it is fine. The breakfast was quite minimal without any fruit or eggs offered.
Review 2:Great location right on the beach.
Review 3:Avoid the restaurant. Really bad. The bar is fine and the breakfast just about ok.
Review 4:The hotel is very beautifully situated, nature and sea fantastic. We were there on a holiday special for half the regular price so we found it worth the money.
Review 5:Staff were incredibly rude when we returned late from a conference, screaming at us down the corridor. We also missed an important meeting as the receptionist forgot to book our taxi.
Review 6:upgrade to facilities needed...dining room has beautiful view but windows need to be replaced to appreciate view. Staff not friendly.
Review 7:Location beautiful
Review 8:Location is far away from shops and market, everything you need, you have to buy in hotel. Hootel is bit old, cleaning was good, but the building still swabby.
Review 9:Location is good, totally in the beach and near of beautiful nature tracks.
Review 10:Rooms were only just passable as clean, TV didn't work, bidet cracked (nasty to sit on!) breakfast very basic. Hotel very tired and in need of investment.
Review 11:Position position position - sadly you couldn't see out of the sea view windows in the dining room nor the sun lounge, they were so dirty.
Review 12:Didn't like the fact that tea and coffee making facilities are NOT PROVIDED in the rooms.
Review 13:The location is great if you like to be right next to the sea and some of the views are breathtaking.
Review 14:The bedroom felt damp, the electric socket was broken and the bathroom was smelly. The place feels very rundown and in need of investment. The breakfast is uninspiring with budget ham, cheese, and a poor selection in general. Though I have stayed here a few times I never cease to be surprised by the surly attitude of the men that run breakfast, who give the impression of disliking tourists and doing their job under duress. I felt that the price was steep for the facilities provided.
Review 15:The location directly above the otherwise deserted beach is great. The reception staff are helpful and friendly. The bedroom was very spacious and had a great view down the beach.
Review 16:- old bathroom and not enough towels - twin beds stick together instead of a double bed - TV broken - OK food in the restaurant
Review 17:- Location near the beach - antique environment
Review 18:Had to take bus ride to caiscais - 25 mins away to go anywhere. last bus back to hotel varied between 7-8 each evening
Review 19:Location Next to beach - good breafast
Review 20:A bit more for vegetarians in the restaurant is required but this is the same for most in Portugal and the bar menu could be adapted to fit needs. A minor suggestion though which didn't detract at all.
Review 21:Beautiful room Perfect location Superb staff Friendly, interesting owner Quirky and full of character Peaceful Personal and homely Safe for single parent families
Review 22:Is in need of renovation, in current state it definitely isn't a 4 star hotel, at least the East Wing rooms. Furnishings and bathroom are very worn out. Breakfast is very simple, coffee terrible. Had dinner there once and it wasn't impressive.
Review 23:Friendly staff Location
Review 24:The hotel building itself and rooms are barely 2 star. The parking at peak times is chaotic and stressful. I couldn't in all honesty take the family back there in future.
Review 25:The location on the beach is 5 star
Review 26:Had dinner at the restaurant but the food wasn't what we expected from a 4 star hotel!!!
Review 27:Nice hotel, well decorated and beautiful location with good views of the sea .
Review 28:We like the hotel, but we would love to see it refreshed. Hotel needs investors to be a pearl. What was nice in 70's looks bad in 2015. Bathrooms need to be renovated asap. They are clean, be destroyed by time. Swimming pool... Good looking, but needs a lot of work to be attractive.
Review 29:Perfect for surfers! Very, very close to the beach. Nice view, fantastic ocean. Great time we spent there.
Review 30:- Breakfast is very poor. Every dam you get the same: bread, ham (one kind), cheese (one kind), yogurt, cereals, jam. If you're late, you won't even get a fruit. There's no vegetables!
Review 31:- The view is stunning - The beach is right next to hotel
Review 32:Bed/pillows awful and got bad backache.
Review 33:Cleaner did good job. Friendly barman. Pool was massive and brightly coloured. Location is fantastic. Bar/restaurant at other end of beach should be replicated by hotel.
Review 34:Breakfast. There was nothing to eat! How come in a 4 star hotel there is nothing hot for breakfast, not even an omelette or scramble eggs. The staff asked up to 5 times a day about your room number when you entered the swimming pool. How does it matter which your room number is? How about giving bands to the guests and stop bothering them? In the swimming pool area there is only one umbrella that works and doesn't fall down with the wind. The managament should definetely work harder to provide the guests with better service cause I wouldn't give more than 2 stars to this place.
Review 35:Air conditioner wasn't working.
Review 36:Hotel building itself it's quite old, some a little bit strange interior details are still there, but rooms are really fine, they are spacious and cosy, newly renovated. The only problem was that in one room the air conditioner wasn't working, in the another it was working fine though. Hotel's location is amazing, because it's just on the beach. Beach is amazing, very windy, but it's perfect for kitesurfing.
Review 37:No Wifi in rooms, it was patchy even downstairs at the hotspot. This should be an easy fix but it sound like this has been going on for awhile. Some of the front desk staff had a bit of an attitude. Sorry.
Review 38:Amazing views.I thought the restaurant at the hotel was fantastic - probably one of the best meals I have ever had. Beautiful scenery, i wouldn't spend more than 2-3 days there.I would definitely stay in Sintra before Cascais. Do both if you have time. The very high winds at the beach make uncomfortable for swimining and laying on the beach.
Review 39:The interior of the beach facing rooms is a little dated but the view from those rooms is by far the best.
Review 40:Great specials in the restaurant. Very helpful staff. Beautiful location. Local feel. Not too touristy. The beach is a favourite beach for local people. The breeze on the beach is a welcome relief from the summer heat. Great location for kite surfing, wind surfing and surfing. Taxi to Cascais is the same price as the bus. Plan to go back.
Review 41:bit old bath tube and stuffy smell from the sink (probably because of old drain pipe), but there was small window to outside corridor, so if we left it open, it was good.. But this was definitely nothing terrible, what could spoil our overall pleasant experience.
Review 42:We got beautiful room with wonderful view to the ocean and the beach in the east part of the hotel, which is very nice and full of light, with bright forniture. The room was perfectly clean and had comfortable bed and large bathroom.
Review 43:Asked for a double bed but was just 2 beds pushed together with single sheets and duvet. Still comfortable though.
Review 44:Clean tidy and friendly staff, little dated but in a charming way. Rooms nice and big and light. Pool is awesome and sheltered from the wind but very sunny if you need a beach break.
Review 45:The hotel itself is in desperate need of a refurbishment. It feels as though it had its heyday in the 80s, but has been living off its past. The bathroom was dirty. I would like to introduce Cillit Bang to housekeeping. An orange-yellow build-up of limescale made me feel uncomfortable. I certainly didn't want a bath! The bathroom smelt awful, the ventilation fan was clogged with dirt. The bedroom itself was large and generally clean, but they obviously don't clean the mattress protector as it was dirty and covered in hairs. This was discovered as the sheet was a little small for the mattress. The wifi was frustrating. It worked only in the reception area. This is ridiculous in today's world. They need to have it cover the hotel.
Review 46:The location is excellent and the sunset is stunning. The hotel views are an easy way to day-dream away. Kite surfers and windsurfers had me mesmerised! The hotel manager, a friendly old man, was lovely and always smiley.
Review 47:Pool area not to clean and furniture outdated and very dirty. Wifi barely working in hotel lobby, not working in the room at all.
Review 48:Location on the beach. Very nice set up for breakfast .
Review 49:the bathroom smelled like mould. there was no possibility to aerate the bathroom other than through the bedroom.
Review 50:beautiful view over the ocean from the windows of the hotel, wonderful windy beach.
Review 51:Breakfast was mediocre, included in the price, but I would have paid more to get a better breakfast
Review 52:Atmosphere, feels going back in time, but it was not outdated. Friendly staff, cosy bar. Fabulous views over the beach with surf school at the hotel. Upgraded rooms were up to standard and good value for money
Review 53:The location is 5*****, the staff are super friendly. The hotel bar is great and the barman Paulo will look after all your needs. The breakfast is delicious and lots of options. Can't wait to go back!
Review 54:The enormous key ring and key that was difficult to open the room with.
Review 55:The position is beautiful as next to a lovely beach. The bar staff were very pleasant and enjoyed a fine meal in the restraint.
Review 56:The hotel is old, dark, smelly, our room was faced to garbage place, the furniture was old, there was no refrigerator, no even glasses to drink water, the floor was made with tiles (cold); no internet, even at the reception internet didn't work
Review 57:Location is good, breakfast was... fair.
Review 58:Very old fashioned basic rooms. Whole place just needs a lick of paint and new furnishings. Breakfast adequate.
Review 59:Right on the beach which is great. 5 minutes drive to caiscai and near to sintra national park and only half an hour from lisbon airport
Review 60:All the rest. The place is a total wreck, locals said later that it used to be an upscale hotel ages ago, but it deteriorated completely since then. We ran away in horror after the first night of our stay due to the poor condition of the room and the hotel itself. I am afraid that the description of the venue on booking.com gives the wrong impression and misleads the guests regarding the real condition of this property. I did not expect nothing fancy for 76 eur/night but it was still too shabby even for that kind of money - rusty hangers in the bathroom, leaking sink flooding the floor and unpleasant smell to name just a few things... I travel quite a lot but was not so disappointed with my hotel choice for a long time. Watch out!
Review 61:Location, right on the Guincho beach, perfect surfing and kite surfing spot. Lady in the reception was nice and understanding.
Review 62:The building has needed redecoration for years if not decades. Bathroom equipment is in a particularly bad condtition. There is a difference between charming patina and underinvestment. The breakfasts, always the same, were rather modest and boring.
Review 63:Near the beach
Review 64:No wifi as advertised. The only wifi you could use is limited and outside of the rooms. Needs improvement in cleanliness.
Review 65:The location is great and the beach is beautiful; close to Cascais Center, Cabo da Roca and Sintra by car.
Review 66:This hotel was very old and musty where you could barely see out the windows as it looks like they haven't been cleaned In a long time. The original room we were to have with sea view was horrible. Curtains falling off the rod. The furniture was minimal and thrashed. We were upgraded to a superior room. The view was a small window on the side. We did change to the third superior which was also a small window but looked out over the front. Part of the wall was peeled off. The bed was okay and the air conditioner looked newer. The bathroom was old and grungy. Breakfast was a good continental breakfast. All in all was very very disappointing and I don't know how it was ever rated the way it was.
Review 67:Bedroom comfort should be improved namely with some floor carpets Some divisions of the hotel should be renewed
Review 68:View to the ocean Landscape Lounge, reception and restaurant of the hotel
Review 69:Strong smell coming off the plumbing in the bathroom. No lift. Wifi only at the reception area.
Review 70:Location. Friendliness of the staff. Amazing views. Well appointed room and comfortable bed. Good breakfast.
Review 71:Perhaps not suited for older couples or families with very young children. The rooms are not as clean and well renovated as it may seem from the photos, yet nothing extraordinary. Salt water in the pool.
Review 72:The view was fantastic! Very helpful staff (reception girls and bar waiters!), good breakfast, spacy rooms with AC. It is a perfect place for younger people to stay at, because of its unique location right at Guincho Beach. A real mecca for wind- and kitesurfers!
Review 73:Horrible service. Grungy and old facilities. Not at all as described. Wifi in 2 small areas, not through out hotel as listed on their website. Staff is surly. Renovated rooms were not as pictured at all. A huge disappointment and this hotel should in no way be 4 stars. Pool was freezing, you needed a wetsuit to get in.
Review 74:Pictures on booking.com are fake. Hotel is very old fashioned, dirty. Bathroom is very old, and not well equiped. A lot of dirt on the windows, no cleaning at all. Very sober interior.
Review 75:location
Review 76:Internet connection is only on the reception. And it's too weak even there. Rooms are big, but if you book a room with the view you should know that windows are dirty because of ocean wind. So you see nothing.
Review 77:The room, specially the bathroom should be refurbished. The chairs by the pool are in terrible condition (dirty and mildew ).
Review 78:The staff, Margarida at the reception is very nice and Mr Muchaxo is very charming. Liked the old style decor in the hotel and the wonderful beach location.
