Reviews for The Verb Hotel
Review 1:The room was cold and the heating system on full wouldn't make it comfortably warm.
Review 2:Incredible decoration, comfortable bed/sofa, awesome staff + complimentary (great quality) coffee!
Review 3:You have to walk 15 mins to get to downtown but we actually enjoyed it.
Review 4:Every detail in the room is so carefully selected! Room was very spacious moody with its 60's style and the bathrooms incredibly new and clean. Big bar downstairs with young people - was concerned about previous reviews that said music was too loud, we were there in December, it was totally fine, nothing disturbed us at night. Great!
Review 5:Fantastic location, facilities - design, rooms, products, guest experience - are second to non. Given the lack of good hotels in Boston this is a gem. You will have an excellent experience whether you drive in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. My favourite hotel in Boston!!
Review 6:Pay to park, but location makes that understandable.
Review 7:May be THE coolest affordable hotel in Beantown. Theme was perfect for this lover of classic rock. High quality renovations made it comfortable and inviting. Staff was friendly and responsive.
Review 8:It's basically a huge party hotel. We didn't sleep at all due to noisy neighbors staying up literally until 6am. We had an early flight and our day was ruined. I will not stay there again.
Review 9:There was a loud hmm that was most noticeable at night. There was loud talking/partying late one night. We called about out and in seconds the noise was gone. Was it too much to ask for a microwave to have been available? Especially on thanksgiving day when all restaurants were closed in the morning and noon hour???
Review 10:The location was great. The room was clean.
Review 11:150$ rate is reasonable but 350$ we paid is over the top rate. Music in the lobby drove me crazy
Review 12:Right in front of Fenway park. good for the night games. Clean
Review 13:Absolutely nothing
Review 14:The location was excellent, a short walk from the centre and exceptional value. The room was spacious and clean with fast wi-fi access. The staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Review 15:The room thermostat was reversed! (When we returned from dinner to a hot room, we had to call the front desk to find out why we couldn't get the heat to turn off. They said it is an old building, try turning it the other way and that worked!)
Review 16:The funky music vibe decor, friendly staff and the reasonable price for a city hotel.
Review 17:Not in the very center of Boston but has 2 best lobster restaurants nearby. Appreciate the 24 hour service, called me a cab to the airport at 3 am.
Review 18:The only thing I didn't like was the high price for a parking spot. One would expect a free parking spot when staying at a hotel.
Review 19:Everyone was very kind and always happy to help.
Review 20:Seeing my Walkman and old CD boombox in a display case of music nostalgia- ouch! It hurts getting old.
Review 21:Excellent staff, fantastic location, great rate for Boston, too! Will definitely put this on the top of my list for any future trip to Boston.
Review 22:Breakfast very slow. Almost 1/2 hour for a toasted bagel!! Glad ghat was all I ordered of I might still be there!
Review 23:Staff were great. But never knew if breakfast was included or not so I just went in sat down and paid.
Review 24:The shower wasn't amazing & tended to soak the entire bathroom but not the end of the world.
Review 25:The hotel looks great and rooms & staff were lovely. The coffee machine in the room was a nice addition. We also enjoyed a decent meal at Hojoko next door.
Review 26:Bit far out from downtown but easy enough to reach. Breakfast not included and maybe best to go elsewhere for that.
Review 27:This place is super cool. Great bar. Brilliant staff. Clever decor.
Review 28:They rape you on parkingll$39 per night. At the room rate, they should offer complimentary parking! Also, cannot control temperature in room, was too hot or too cold when opening windows to try and cool it down.
Review 29:Friendly hellpful staff, large rooms, very comfortable beds!!
Review 30:Nothing. Everything was great. The price per night maybe!
Review 31:The staff, the ambiance, the hotel location within Boston, Berry street being at walking distance from the hotel.
Review 32:I thought the bed was a little uncomfortable and very loud live music from the restaurant kept me up very late. My husband can sleep through a tornado! :-) I cannot. But maybe a different room next time?
Review 33:I loved the hotel itself. Very eclectic and cute, etc. Great music, good knowledgeable staff. My husband liked it a LOT better than I did.
Review 34:The bed wasn't very comfy and there are no vending machines there. We went during a heat wave and had to walk down the street for extra water and beverages. There is breakfast available to purchase but no free continental breakfast. I am a coffee drinker and the room did Have a coffee machine but no creamer, sweetener or stir sticks. As a tourist these little things make a big difference when you are on the go an trying to see as much as possible. But I would stay there again and would definitely recommend it for couples but not for families.
Review 35:The staff was great! Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. If they didn't know the answer to our question with getting around town they didn't hesitate to look for the answer. The hotel also smelled great and was very clean. We loved the retro 60's vibe and that it wasn't "stuffy" feeling. The location right next to Fenway park is amazing!!
Review 36:Price was outrageous! When converted to cad$ it was $450 per night!?!
Review 37:The vibe. Nice spot, awesome location, friendly staff! Over priced, butok for a short stay. WiFi was poor, but who needs WiFi on vacation!Overall a good experience, but probably wouldn't return becauseprice was outrageous!
Review 38:I didn't notice at first, but there was a dead moth inside of the closet... I hope this will never happen again for the next guest...
Review 39:Location is great! It's easy to get to downtown or any other places!
Review 40:Nothing
Review 41:The staff very helpful and friendly. The location is FANTASTIC. This property has come from sorry to say a Howard Johnsons DUMP to a first class hotel. Keep up the good work
Review 42:breakfast was not included considering the room was quite expensive at almost $200 per night ! I was sitting at the pool ,which was quite small anyway and noticed a lot of young people filing in - the hotel were running a pay-to-enter pool party ! Felt so uncomfortable I left. Very cheeky when it's one of the facilities we paid for .
Review 43:excellent housekeeping/cleanliness friendly staff good location
Review 44:We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Verb. The staff are great and the maid service came at any point in the day after we left our rooms. The hotel is really cool and quirky but comfortable and good air con and wifi to go with it. They give free complementary bottles of water and there's an empty mini fridge you can stock up with water (or beer!) in your room. The location is great as it is right by Fenway Park and there are lots of bars in the area. I'd definitely recommend and would return!
Review 45:Nothing bad, pool was out when I arrived & in the morning of the next day, but I was able to use it on my 3rd & 4th days. Breakfast is also not included & the choices are limited, but it's not a big deal, as the location is near Back Bay with its many cafes. There is also no elevator, but there is a bellhop service if you might struggle with your bags up & down the stairs.
Review 46:The decor is top notch; it makes me happy coming home to such a beautifully decorated place every day. The location can't be beaten, especially if you're like me you come to Boston primarily to watch the Red Sox play at Fenway Park. The hotel is also super clean; I love the clean smell in the hallway. The staff is super friendly, which is appreciated.
Review 47:View from the hotel was a boring parking lot. We didn't pay for a view room, which was available though. If I could go back, I would pay the extra money. Also, this is odd but the ceiling was pop corned and made it seem old and cheap! Just redo them!
Review 48:Great atmosphere and the staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. Recommend restaurants to us and loved all of them (I'm in the restaurant biz too, so I'm picky!). Easy access to the town simply by using uber. Stayed for 2 nights and have nothing bad to say. If you are looking for a fun, boutique hotel that's affordable in an expensive city, this is your place!
Review 49:Water and coffee were not replaced every day as they should have been. Housekeeping was also very slow, sometimes not getting to our room til 5pm.
Review 50:Great location for conference at Longwood. Comfy beds, great shower, decent breakfast and bar. WiFi also faultless.
Review 51:We checked into a room that hadn't been cleaned although it was almost 1am, but this was swiftly resolved.
Review 52:Very cool hotel, quirky features, large rooms, very friendly and helpful staff who helped with restaurant recommendations, even helping us with recommendations for our stay in New York. Really impressed by how helpful the staff were - loaned me a laptop so I could sort and print some things. Nice pool area. Didn't try the restaurant but looks lovely. Good location near Fenway park.
Review 53:no elevator a few more amcerican food offereings at restaurant
Review 54:service and atmosphere were excellent, great job on renovations and updates. loved decor.
Review 55:Nothing in particular.
Review 56:Stylish hotel with all the guest comforts and immediately next to Fenway Park for the Red Sox match. Has a clean pool and good restaurant.
Review 57:The sound coming from hojoko restaurant was deafening. It was hard for your staff to hear us or the telephone or really anything. Some kind of a nod to breakfast would have been appreciated.
Review 58:Loved the quality of the bed and room darkening drapes. Thank you!!!!
Review 59:This is a renovated old strip hotel, the air conditionning was awful, very noisy and couldn't keep the room fresh. The check-in was also awful. The website mentionned check-in at 3h pm and we got there at 3h but we only got our room at 5h without an apology...
Review 60:The best thing about the hotel is its location, right next to Fenway Park when you are going to a game is a great advantage over other hotels.
Review 61:Hotel customers going to a event like a Red Sox game are subject to paying 2 parking fees..valet and event parking which can be 100 dollars.hotel should discount hotel customers parking fees.
Review 62:The convenience of Fenway Park and a short walk to restaurants.
Review 63:I have no complaints, huge improvement from the Old HoJo's.
Review 64:The staff is amazing, very friendly, professional, helpful, personable. They made you feel like you were in a luxury hotel. Valet staff was awesome as well. I absolutely love the decor! The bed was wicked comfortable.
Review 65:We stayed at the hotel for a concert. We are responsible adults and did not want to drive. We had food and drinks before concert. When we returned back to hotel after concert ( which stops serving drinks during concert) We returned to the restaurant/bar for food and drinks. The young bar manager, was condescending , placed her hands on my friend to "guide her" to a seat. My friend has a strabimus problem and her balance is off at baseline. She stopped serving her , but the manner in which she did was unnecessary. She should not be putting her hands anyone , whether trying to be helpful or not. Speak to them like they are children when they are 20 plus years older than her and embarrass her (esp when she is so conscientious of her condition. The whole reason to stay at the hotel was to be able to have drinks, enjoy self , and walk up to the room. Other than this young lady there were no complaints.
Review 66:The location was great for a concert. The atmosphere was cool.. The front staff were friendly everywhere from check-in to the waitstaff and the bartenders.
Review 67:This is a top notch facility. No detail was missed in the renovation of this old Howard Johnsons hotel. The staff is incredibly friendly and the hotel is extremely clean.
Review 68:Would have liked If there was a full breakfast menu. Had to travel to get eggs and bacon. Was charged for a cup of coffee on Monday, but not on Sunday.
Review 69:The friendly, knowledgable service and clean rooms. The bathroom amenities were great!
Review 70:Billing was messed up, was charged twice for the room, Charged for the room without parking and then again for with parking. still have not been credited back. Waited 15 minutes for our keys valet parking
Review 71:Great location, great staff at the front desk
Review 72:The pillows were not good...deflated marshmallows....need to get new ones otherwise everything was good
Review 73:Excellent location for Fenway, great area! Staff was great! Great bathroom
Review 74:Breakfast was ok. We got there late so out of a lot of items. Go early if possible...
Review 75:Awesome location right by Fenway Park. Cool, retro feel. Extremely clean and updated. Staff was excellent; bed was extremely comfortable. New restaurant on site for dinner/drinks.
Review 76:Breakfast was provided by restaurant next door nothing to do with the hotel. Half way through breakfast which was poor they ran out of any spreads including butter to go onto baggles, staff not happy to help. My opinion would be book without breakfast and eat elsewhere
Review 77:Excellent location fun hotel, room decor fab, would stay there again
Review 78:No elevator access to upper level. No bellman to help take bags up. All Front desk staff we dealt with were totally ignorant of standard hospitality and service. No printed bill to review before charge approval. Room was not serviced until we returned from an afternoon ballgame (5 pm) and then we had to wait downstairs while it was being done.
Review 79:Very clean. Contemporary style works well. Comfortable beds. Great bathroom w/ clean, modern design.
Review 80:I was expecting to be wowed by the place. While it definitely had personality and our room was great, I didn't think I got what I was expecting (or necessarily what I paid for). The first day we went for continental breakfast, it was already all picked over with very little left when we came down an hour after it was set out. The next day we went down right away only to find that it wasn't set up yet - which took a half hour to set up. We ended up having to move things around and plug in the toaster ourselves. And there was only fruit and bagels. The pool area was also smaller than we were expecting.
Review 81:Free breakfast very limited, weird smell in room - not sure why, a little pricey for what it is even in major city especially since parking was additional charge.
Review 82:Funky decor, location, location location next to Fenway Park and good bars and restaurants , liked robes provided, friendly staff
Review 83:I stayed at the Verb for 'business' reasons - I can only stay in a hospital on-call room for so many nights so it was so refreshing to come to the verb. Right off the bat, the valet guy was very kind in parking my car up front so if I were paged in the middle of the night, I could have easy access. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful! I loved the bathroom and the toiletries which are C.O Bigelow products. You can't beat the location - close proximities to the hospitals, great surrounding restaurants, and we had a view of the stylish pool and a little peak of Fenway. Will definitely be staying here again!
Review 84:The electronic lock on our door stopped working, so we had to ask the staff to let us in our room every time.
Review 85:Decor was so cool! Staff were very friendly and professional. They were extremely helpful. The room was comfortable.
Review 86:The breakfast wasnt much but at least it was offered.
Review 87:The feel of the hotel was awesome. The retro look was really inspiring and the location was great. The staf were really helpful.
Review 88:Although the washroom looks great in the room the shower design lays water get everywhere, although the shower does work great and I wish there were a real door instead of the sliding one. Not really a complaint more of an observation.
Review 89:The location is unbelievable perfect for any event at or around Fenway, staff were great and very friendly, rooms were great and super clean.
Review 90:Liked the shower , didn't like the shower being open in the back.
Review 91:The space of the room , the decor , the over all vibe was very cool. Staff was awesome , location was perfect for Fenway.
Review 92:I didn't like that we stayed before the restaurant and bar was open for business. It looked really nice and was eager to try it.
Review 93:The staff was super friendly from the second we got out of our car to getting back in. Everyone was willing to help out with anything we needed.
Review 94:Front desk was lost every time but at check out. Was there to celebrate our anniversary. Wanted to get late checkout. Nobody could figure out how to do it, even paying. We were only people at check in and it took 15 minutes. Giy asked my name three times, swiped my cc twice. Also, place has no elevator! If on second floor, you're carrying bags up two flights!
Review 95:Cool vibe, fun decor, good tv, bedding and toiletries.
Review 96:The breakfast was not the greatest. The bagels were okay, just that you guys ran out of everything else like butter & cream cheese.
Review 97:The staff was nice and the location was great.
Review 98:I was not thrilled about the bathroom. Door did not lock for privacy and shower was only one door. I don't know if thats the style the hotel is going for or if we were given a bathroom with a broken door, but either way it wasn't for me.
Review 99:The location was great especially if you're in town to watch baseball. Clean Nice pool area
Review 100:No restaurant on premises, only breakfast served -- could use some on-site vending machines (soda, snacks) and in-room coffee maker. Bathroom design more for looks than practicality -- tiles in shower very slippery with no hand-holds, open design of shower gets water all over the place. Towels and supplies not replaced often enough. Not enough night staff.
Review 101:Rock and Roll theme is great. Room decor fun and funky. Rooms spotlessly clean, staff enthusiastic. Unlimited bottles of chilled water. In-room fridge.
Review 102:ONLY criticism is the traffic flow between people eating breakfast and people trying to check out-all in same space. Got a bit claustrophobic.
Review 103:The proximity to Fenway Park was fantastic. Great guest rooms and very comfortable bed.
Review 104:Although hotel parking was available on sight, we had to pay vallet parking to use it. We would have preferred to park ourselves to save a few extra bucks. Also, no elevator which was tough with two huge suitcases, but not a major set back.
Review 105:Very cool decor, perfect for music lovers of all eras. Staff was very friendly, professional and helpful. The hotel was directly next to Fenway Park and overall in a great location to see the city sights.
Review 106:Although great efforts were made to transform the space, at the end it is just a high-priced '60s era motel. We paid over $300 for a room with two queens, and I thought this was overpriced. It would be good value at $200 or under.
Review 107:The location was fantastic, if your plans include a Red Sox game.
Review 108:Bar and restaurant not yet opened.
Review 109:This trendy hotel provides spacious rooms and super comfortable beds right next to Fenway Park. The design and branding is the icing on the cake... Great atmosphere and really friendly staff.
Review 110:...courtyard was a terrific surprise after a long hot drive. Breakfast served there was delicious. Great location re:Northeastern Univ. Room and bathroom was chic, well-designed. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Review 111:None, Enjoyed the whole experience
Review 112:Nice vibe. Well managed. Very friendly staff and good customer service. The laid back retro atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. Arranged ground transportation for my brother's very early morning flight and had coffee ready.
Review 113:The continental breakfast is good but there is no space to sit and eat it properly. It can be crowded in the reception area. I wish you could unplug the electric alarm clock that ticks.
Review 114:Location and general vibe, decoration of the hotel is great. Nice attention to details: shelving in the bathroom to drop your stuff, vanity area, safe, ironing board, bathrobes, water
Review 115:We asked for a pool view room, got a view of the parking lot. Supposed to be ground floor, got a second floor room-my husband is disabled and they don't have an elevator. So i got to carry the bags up the stairs and he got to crawl up them. The ice maker was outside our room and believe it or not people used it A LOT at 5:45am. You can hear all the conversations in the hallway. Don't think we would stay here again.
Review 116:Hotel was in a great location for our needs.
Review 117:I broke my leg slipping on the wet floor when exiting the swimming pool area. The floor in the hallway, outside of the doors exiting the pool, there was a puddle of water that must have dropped off someone also exiting the pool. I stepped in it, slipped & fell & broke my fibrula. I strongly recommend that a rug be placed there to catch run off pool water from guests exiting and entering the lobby/hall area. The floor has zero traction and is VERY slippery. I'd hate to see whst happened to me - happen to another guest.
Review 118:The location
Review 119:I regret: - not having a specific room for breakfast (the lobby is not very convenient) - the cost of the parking (it should not be a supplement).
Review 120:I liked the sixties's look of this hotel (but more confortable, with the WIFI). The room was quiet and confortable. The location was convenient, close to Fenway Park, the museum of Fine Arts and Newburry street.
Review 121:I thought they could mix up the continental breakfast a bit...I loved the fresh fruit & granola, just not everyday.
Review 122:I liked the staff and the time they took with each guest. Giving maps, water and advice on restaurants.
Review 123:as this was end of May/early June, the heat had been turned off but as the weather was quite cold in boston at the time, the room was frigid and they couldn't turn the heat on. Matt at the front desk was kind enough to get us a space heater.
Review 124:Staff tried to be very helpful
Review 125:Low ceilings on first floor might bother some people. Decor might not be for everyone, but we liked it.
Review 126:Super comfortable. Right next to Fenway Park. Easy walking distance to the Prudential Center and Cambridge. The breakfast was really, really good - coissants, granola, and yogurt with fresh berries.
Review 127:Light sleepers need earplugs as the corridor is not soundproof. They also organize huge swimming pool parties for outsiders with DJs etc, so that may not be for a conservative traveller to be confronted with...
Review 128:This is a hotel that wants to be a funky boutique hotel, and actually IS one. They got everything right: the amazing staff, the superfast internet, the big rooms, the monster flatscreen TV, free internet and breakfast, great location....
Review 129:Rooms were not cleaned very well for a hotel of this price point. One morning a staff member entered our room with another client thinking we were checked out, when we weren't due to check out for another ~32 hours. In the middle of two different nights, our phone rang and then was hung-up by the time we answered. Overall a good stay, but just these few annoyances.
Review 130:Staff were very friendly, room itself was perfect, just a few messy bits in terms of service that they need to clean up to stay competitive.
Review 131:No lift. Toiletries only left on the first day. Air conditioner was noisy, so it was a choice between being too warm, or being awake, I think this is possibly being sorted though, there was a fair amount of building work happening. The walls were quite thin, I could hear next door talking.
Review 132:The room was big and clean. The bed comfy, shower hot. There was a free breakfast, and free water available. The evening staff were great, the day staff were good. The decor was interesting and fun. 15% off at Sweet Caroline's across the road. There was plenty of sun loungers and towels at the pool. Massive TV! This was a nice hotel, and if I stayed again, I'd book a ground floor room.
Review 133:complimentary breakfast was bad...no hot food. Check out was 11 and maids tried to clean the room 2 times before checkout. Plus there was a fire alarm for 20 minutes.
Review 134:Location
Review 135:could use an elevator...and a bit more room in the breakfast room/lobby..but really such great fun friendly helpful staff and darling decor- so who cares about the small stuff? Did I mention the staff is also adorably super cute?!!
Review 136:Loved the comfy bed - the FABULOUS staff and the camaradarie in the breakfast room/lobby. Also the decor is eclectic unique and downright fun!
Review 137:The Verb is just great in every aspect and the easy breakfast is surprisingly good and healthy. Nice staff. Brilliant service. Walking distance from Newburry Street. We'll be back. Thanks
Review 138:Rousted out of bed because someone pulled the fire alarm at 2:00 a.m. Mustiness of room not attractive. Door lock was troublesome, but the comped our parking as a result.
Review 139:Hip decor
Review 140:This hotel was the perfect choice for our stay in Boston for our son's graduation from BU. the breakfasts were fresh and much more than we expected. The staff was very professional and were always available to help.
