Reviews for Aqua Natura Madeira

Review 1:We thought the food at dinner let the place down, and certainly didn't fit the decor. We'd suggest the menu and quality of cooking need a rethink. That said I wasn't charged for my main which was uneatable. The breakfast buffet was excellent. There is no separate bar area, and the main communal area, which combines with reception, was occupied with a tour group talk when we wanted to use it. We could have sat on the balcony, but it was raining and there was nowhere else.

Review 2:The sound of crashing waves as we went off to sleep, although there was excellent sound proofing if you closed the window. The view of sea and rocks was fantastic. The decor was "cool", modern and clean looking. I liked it my husband didn't really.

Review 3:- the staff is so nice and helpful! - the quality of the food is top! - the vieuws are stunning - there is a nice jaccuzi and sauna - we rented a car from wednesday to friday. We paid those 3 days but we could use the car also on tuesday and saturday. So nice! - its clean - the village is lovely to relax.

Review 4:This hotel is honestly the best hotel that I have ever stayed in. The staff were extra special, the room felt more like a home than a hotel room and the sight and sound of the ocean was my idea of heaven. I felt so heartbroken when the time came to check out.

Review 5:We booked general and bamboo massages for 85 euro both. Even though there was a low season, they offered only two options at noon (we preferred the evening); finally the guy was 30 minutes late so we had to change our afternoon plans a bit. ''-'' generally nothing to complain about; would recommend the management to arrange English classes for receptionists as it seems they have some difficulties in understanding their guests. Other than that, the highest points to Aqua Natura! P.s. Also would be great to get the honey cakes we have forgotten at the reception and wanted to send our parents together with the cards from Madeira. There is even an address on one of the cards ;)

Review 6:During our 9-day holidays on Madeira this hotel was the best among the other 4 of the same class and approximately same price. ''+'' excellent breakfasts with a big variety of fruits, warm snacks, freshly pressed juice, etc. even though we were not lucky with the weather - it was storming two days out of three, we enjoyed jakuzzi and sauna with a great view to the ocean. The gym in the basement is also a big advantage.

Review 7:Dramatic location overlooking the natural pools in Porto Moniz. lovely to swim in December. Great staff. Perfect one night stop before going to Funchal.

Review 8:The cleaning of the room was not perfect, bathrobes were damaded, smell in the room.

Review 9:Great ocean view from the room, good breakfast, the lava pool is something! We rented a car (nothing to do in the village).

Review 10:Missed a "cozy corner" to relax or read - the area at the reception is nice but not very inviting, and occassionally you'd like to sit somewhere else than in your room. Massage ok, but missed the relaxing atmosphere in the room.

Review 11:Great location, wonderful views from the room. Restaurant the best in town and hardly more expensive than the more touristy places. Staff nice and very helpful.

Review 12:Hidden away behind a resturaunt, bit hard to find, pop up a couple of sign posts

Review 13:Staff we're brilliant, the rest of the hotel staff across madeira could learn a thing or two from the excellent first class customer service & special touches at this hotel, I would highly recommend this hotel & wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Brilliant service, top class hotel plus meals in restaurant were wonderful & best breakfast buffet in madeira 5 stars from us. Thank you for making us feel very welcome in a foreign country x

Review 14:The staff were so helpful, they organised activities such as scuba diving and hiking that we were keen to do and all of the transfers to and from these. They went out of their way to help us.

Review 15:We had a fabulous suite with a fantastic view from our balconies. The restaurant provided a delicious buffet breakfast and equally wonderful evening meals. On arrival we were welcomed with a refreshing madeira wine cocktail, which was a lovely start to our holiday. The staff were so friendly and helpful at all times. Not being high season we appreciated the peacefulness and even had the the sauna and jacuzzi to ourselves..The thoughtful departing gift of homemade jam was another reflection of the care and attention we received during our stay at this super hotel.

Review 16:the proximity of the sea, the fantastic vieuws, the total package: sauna, jacuzzi, gym; the room was fine and the restaurant very good with an interesting menu

Review 17:Nothing to complain. They did a very good job

Review 18:Excellent location and friendly restaurant personel. A very nice welcome and a very short time spent on check in Highly qualified personel and paid attention on our request. The concept of the hotel is a fusion between natural environment and new standards for accommodation. Our room was splendid and offered us the privacy we expected. I do recommend this hotel for both relaxing or active vacation. Thanks Aqua Natura, Porto Moniz, Madeira and hope to see you again!

Review 19:Nothing,everything was best quality

Review 20:One of the best hotel we ever been. Staff friendly and helpfully, facility perfect for long stay and not feel boring.wonderful view through the Windows.perfect variety of breakfast.

Review 21:Not a big issue but would have liked some changes to the menu night by night. Jacuzzi is very small.

Review 22:Great location, lovely relaxed atmosphere.Staff professional and friendly. We ate dinner there in the evenings, very satisfied. very comfortable for a winter stay.

Review 23:It was EXCELLLLLENT!!! The hotel offered us a superior room instead of the regular one because it was free and besides "for six nights the other one would be just too small"... :) The restaurant.... YUMMI!!! We tried almost every meal they had and we loved them all! The view is breathtaking, the people are amazing, the weather could be better but I'm sure the staff would definetely do something about it if they only could! :))) Brilliant!

Review 24:The jacuzzi was a bit dirty but after we informed the staff they cleaned it.

Review 25:The view of our room was perfect (ocean view) and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast was very good.

Review 26:The room was too hot and only had a portable air con unit which was very noisy. There was no window in the bathroom.

Review 27:The location is great with a view of the rock pools. The breakfast was very good. Beds were comfortable but pillows were a bit lumpy

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Location, location, location. I had booked for one night but could not drag myself away. All rooms have an amazing sea view and are very nicely decorated and comfortable. Great space upstairs next to the sauna and jacuzzi to relax and sunbathe or to watch the sunrise/sunset. Very charming man at reception, helpful and polite without being intrusive. A wonderful hotel in a beautiful setting.

Review 30:No instructions for the safe. The staff member that helped us with this was not really friendly...Not much to do in the village during the evening

Review 31:Spacious room with a beautiful sea view. Very good restaurant

Review 32:The parking lot has very few free places, the others are with fee; I think that the hotel could make an agreement with the municipality and give to the guests a parking permit valid on the paid places also.

Review 33:Big and comfortable room with a balcony and wonderful sea view. Very good breakfast buffet and restaurant. Quiet location. Helpful staff and goodbye souvenir (thank you!)

Review 34:no air conditioning. portable device available but very loud and not effective.

Review 35:Perfect location overlooking sea, cliffs and natural swimming pool. Modern and boutique hotel. Rooms with balconies and new furnitures. Good size and modern bathroom. Great restaurant and very nice breakfast. You really feel welcomed there.

Review 36:The receptionist was more "functioning"than welcoming us at our arrival

Review 37:Location and scenery, access to natural swimming pools, great room and very comfortable bed, terrace, kindness if the manager and if of the cleaning ladies, emphasis on nature

Review 38:The breakfast was excellent and there was a good variety. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. The children and the adults enjoyed swimming and snorkling in the natural pools. We loved the views and the fact that we were not in the city

Review 39:Nothing to dislike but just a suggestion please - maybe more vegetarian selection of food please. Thank you

Review 40:Great quiet location, attentive staff, nice food and wonderful hotel - just what we were looking for to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed it that much we booked to return next June for my 50th birthday. Thank you Filipe and all his team!

Review 41:They don’t provide a private parking, but a huge spot with free public parking is nearby. A very windy area.

Review 42:A very tasty breakfast with fresh pressed juice. A room is big, very nicely arranged and has a balcony with an amazing view over the ocean and natural pools. You can enjoy a great sauna and jacuzzi together with a huge terrace for free. Wifi in the room.

Review 43:Only one entry per day to the rock pools. Website states "free entry" but implies you can go straight down from the hotel. You have to go out to the street and in the main entrance, so if you want to come back in to the hotel to avoid the midday sun you have to pay to go back in again. Not good, especially as the pool only charge them fifty cents for each ticket. Breakfast selection was good but the hot food in the "warming" trays was stone cold.

Review 44:Great location and view. Nice staff. Comfortable rooms.

Review 45:Mostly everythink perfekt, breakfast very good, only you need a car or take a taxi to get somewhere in the island. But coutryside very nice and interesant like everywhere at Madeira.

Review 46:Not enough free (reservated) parking space - we once had to pay for a public spot. The chef overcooked both fish dishes we ordered for dinner (this does of course not affect our review of the hotel)

Review 47:Great view over the ocean, nice welcome (including a cocktail :-), friendly staff, great view from the restaurant / breakfast room, free access to the pools directly by the hotel.

Review 48:The weather,,it's own microclimate? half the pools closed, hotel was great if you like concrete pods and no bar! Town was all but asleep, so this time of year is no good if you want nightlife.

Review 49:The pools and the view were what we want for, both good, if, you don't mind cool waters! We were the only people in. Breakfast very good. Large room.

Review 50:Great view from the balcony, excellent service in hotel's restaurant, tasty food even for breakfast, nice sauna and jacuzzi to enjoy after you return from your Levada walk. Clean rooms and bathroom and the where you have to go when you are in Madeira.

Review 51:Unfortunately, we were given a room on the first floor, overlooking the empty natural Swimming pools where construction work was going on. We did know, that at this time of the year, the pools would not be in use and that was fully OK (the weather was cold and it was very windy). Overall, the look over the rough sea was great, but would have been even better from an upper-storey room. During breakfast, there was no concept around the buffet (you can enter from all sides which leads to "traffic jams" around the buffet as you also have to get your Cups from underneath the buffet), there was no normal butter (just salty one). Overall, the buffet breakfast was varied!

Review 52:Welcome Drink Madeira wine and give-away present.

Review 53:I liked everything!

Review 54:We were treated so well by all the staff. The room and bathroom are modern, stylish and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. The view is amazing.

Review 55:Taxis and day trippers took the defacto free hotel parking leaving you to take a meter some days. A cost you can bear but irritating on the days when you saw the free loaders taking up space they weren't paying for in the bill so as to speak.

Review 56:Excellent breakfast. Location, attentive staff.

Review 57:Our balcony was right above the crashing waves on the rocks and lava pools. We sat for hours just watching and photographing them. Despite the closeness of the sea the sound proofing was so good that we slept well.

Review 58:my room 107 was exactly under the restoran. so, you can hear what's going upstairs. wasn't a problem for me, I'm heavy sleeper but for those who has light sleep try to avoid rooms on a first floor.

Review 59:everything was perfect. very high standard. superb breakfast, very polite staff, will recommend to others. you need a car to be there.

Review 60:The views from the hotel are fantastic and the bedroom was spacious and the bed extremely comfortable. We stayed here 12 years ago and was amazed at how well the hotel had been upgraded.

Review 61:The staff were so friendly and they treated you like royalty. Everything was perfect and I can't speak highly enough about this hotel and its staff. Hotel was clean, the views were spectacular from our room. Free wifi was a bonus. I love this hotel!

Review 62:Porto Moniz very quiet in the evenings (it was February!)

Review 63:Rooms overlook Atlantic and natural pools - staff very friendly and helpful- nice (small) sauna and tub

Review 64:Small souna. Please use duvet cover. It's been standard in Sweden since 50 years

Review 65:Nice to hear the strong sea from the balcony. Wonderful breakfast.

Review 66:There was nothing!

Review 67:The ambience of this hotel is delightful. Our room looked directly to the sea and the sound of the waves lulled us to sleep at night while watching them was fascinating during the day The staff are friendly and polite without any sense of it being just for show. It stands there as one of our most pleasant holidays

Review 68:A minor quibble would be the jacuzzi which seemed slightly grubby. Beds on the firm side.

Review 69:Access to the adjacent sea pools (although the public pool complex was closed when we were there, there are accessible pools a short walk away that you can access at any time), good breakfast, large comfortable room with balcony and fantastic sea view, welcoming staff. Excellent value for money.

Review 70:Bed a bit too firm for me. The restaurant was not special, we ate better elsewhere on Madeira, but is convenient.

Review 71:Wonderful location right above the waves. Welcoming drink was nice. Room was great, big and light and warm enough for January. Porto Moniz esplanade was nice too.

Review 72:The beds were a little bit on the hard side (but that could be fixed with the blankets)

Review 73:The location close to the sea, the staff, the breakfast and the village.

Review 74:Absolutely nothing, our stay was outstanding.

Review 75:The suite being so reasonably pricedThe massage, while facing the wonderful waves crashing against the lava rocks. The fabulous Restaurant Sitting in the Sauna and staring at the ocean was crashing on the most stunning rock formations. Sunning on the roof top by the wonder Jaccuzzi and looking out over a pananoramic view of the the dramatic and stunning waves The linens made in Portugal... fabulous pillows The tireless customer service Extremely clean everywhere OUTSTANDING views from the room balconies

Review 76:The hotel has a breath taking sea front location with all its rooms able to enjoy the spectacular view. The staff were all welcoming and helpful with nothing to much trouble.

Review 77:Too much flower fragrances used when cleaning inside hotel and too much chlor added to water of jacuzzi. Can be a problem for alergic people.

Review 78:Wonderful hotel with a spectacular views of the Atlantic ocean. Great swimming facilities, nice sauna, wonderful breakfast.Absolutly lovely and helpful staff.

Review 79:Couldn't get any closer to the ocean, wave action spectacular. Menu and presentation in the restaurant was excellent. The included breakfast left nothing to be desired. Will return here on next trip to Madeira

Review 80:Room was spacious, clean, cozy and stylish. Excellent view from the balcony. Great water pressure and hot shower. Breakfast was very good! Super friendly staff. We definitely will stay here again on future Madeira visits.

Review 81:- sauna was cold after 40 minutes warming it up - sauna could be a bit bigger

Review 82:+ Super nice friendly hotel!!!! + Wonderful nature, silence! + Spacious rooms and balconies face to the ocean + Top breakfast with home made jams, non processed food! + Great dinners! Scabbard fish is top! + Very very helpful staff + Enjoyed the hotel, atmosphere in it every moment! + sauna faces to the ocean! + We will definitely come back! The best hotel on Madeira!! + Home made jam as a present!

Review 83:Humid and cold bathroom, could do with a heater. Smell of mildew in the elevator and in the bottom floor, where the gym is.

Review 84:Location, sauna with oceanview, room is big, good food in the restaurant.

Review 85:It was faultless!

Review 86:We were greeted with a welcome drink. A lovely Gala Dinner on 24th, present of a bottle of Madeira Wine and Honey Cake outside the door on Christmas morning (plus a 25% discount for any booking next year). We live on the Island and loved every minute of a change in scenery, the view over the natural pools from our bedroom terrace and their restaurant was excellent. The staff, all young, were charming and nothing was too much trouble.

Review 87:Superb view from room. Good choice for breakfast, fast internet connection. Be sure to check sauna & jacuzzi at top flow, of course with ocean view :) nice, quiet town, especially in the evening, convienient location for natural swimming pools (free of charge for hotel guest)

Review 88:Natural Pools did not open for more than 5 days during my stay at Porto Moniz, so best time to go is between April and October...

Review 89:One amazing place to stay at, if you want to be one with the ocean and waves!

Review 90:The staff was very helpful but they could not speak english as I would have expected from a 4x hotel.

Review 91:It was clean and nice, the rooms are not fancy at all but convenient

Review 92:Restaurant food was average, but good value.

Review 93:The views from the room and balcony were directly over the sea and were spectacular. The room was a good size and very nicely equipped/decorated. Breakfast was great choice and of a high standard.

Review 94:Limited free parking spaces and on arrival it was full, but they had one of their staff move his car for us. Minor comment is that the hotel is small and located behind a restaurant, and we actually did not find it the first time we drove by.

Review 95:Location is great, rooms have fantastic view over the sea, and when opening the balcony door you hear the sound of waves. The breakfast is good, and if eating during sunrise the view is even better. Staff are friendly and helpful. Free WiFi in rooms worked fine. It was my wife's birthday, and the hotel were kind enough to greet us with a bottle of sparkling wine waiting in the room. We were very happy with this stay.

Review 96:There is nothing I didn't like

Review 97:I loved the setting and the fact that my room overlooked the pool andthe sea with nothing and no one In between. It was wonderful to lie inbed and watch and hear the waves crashing against the rocks. Thesurroundings were beautiful with wonderful hills and cliffs behind. Ienjoyed the food in the hotel and the surrounding restaurants which wasobviously very fresh and tasted delicious. A fabulous place for resting, walking, and just enjoying nature. The natural pools were right by thehotel and I enjoyed the fact that the waves swept over into themallowing me to swim in the sea but be completely safe. I will definitelybe going back!

Review 98:Jacuzzi and sauna could be improved. Sauna looses the temperature pretty fast due to its bad construction (door does not close tightly)

Review 99:Rooms are facing the natural pools, fascinating view! Our room was spacious and well equipped, with reasonable prices at the minibar (beer 1,50€). Free-Wifi included. Staff is friendly and helpful, maybe a little inexperienced. Breakfast is the best we had on Madeira. Nice selection of food, fresh orange juice. The restaurant is okay for dinner, but does not offer very many different dishes.

Review 100:Parking difficult. Dinner menu good but cooking inconsistent. Too much air freshener used in the rooms.

Review 101:Spacious comfortable room with a wonderful view. Ideal location next to the sea-water pools - free admission and towels for hotel guests.

Review 102:Air-co is too loud. Shower doesn't get door, water comes out in the bathroom.

Review 103:Breakfast. Sea view room (balcony). Roof Jacuzzi. Small jam as souvenir. Big bed. Welcome drink. Next to nature swimming pool.

Review 104:A very warm welcome from Philip and staff in the restaurant. Enjoyed the welcome drink and delicious light lunch before swimming in the local natural pools. The view over the Atlantic from our room was sublime. Highly recommended.

Review 105:Due to high season the kitchen staff couldn't keep up the pace during breakfast. And once, the kitchen took very long to serve dinner. But the food, both during breakfast and dinner was great.

Review 106:The hotel is new and modern. The rooms with sea view balcony are nice with splendid view and fitted an extra child bed. The restaurant has a menu which differs positively from the restaurants in town. Staff was very nice and helpful.

Review 107:I liked everything! The whole island is truly amazing and Aqua Natura just enhances it! We had a room above the pools, facing the ocean, watching a beautiful sun setting from our balcony every night. The room was spacious for the 3 of us (I travelled with my two children), and so was the bathroom, that was truly luxurious. I would give 5 stars to this place, not just 4. The breakfast was ample, with lots of fruits, cakes, different breads, sausage, English style omelettes, beans, etc. The wifi was working perfectly, even at the pools. The stuff is kind, helpful, arranged everything. The rooms were cleaned every day and and and and... I could just go on forever. We had an awesome vacation.

Review 108:Gym was still closed when we were in July 2014, but we were told that they just finished it on the day we were leaving. Lava pools (outside of hotel facilities) have some system for water pump that made a metallic noise all night and every night, hopefully they can fix this. You need a car, if you want to get anywhere from this little town, but if you just want to relax, it might be just a perfect place. Wifi worked only in one area of the hotel near the restaurant, almost never worked in the room.

Review 109:The hotel is brand new, opened in April 2014, so everything is new and nice, and it's quite small, which we liked. The breakfast is fantastic - fresh juices and a lot of fruits! And of course the restaurant is with the sea view. Jacuzzi on the top floor is a great idea (and also with the sea view)! And you can use it 24/7 for no extra charge! Balconies in the rooms are far from each other and behind the solid walls (we had a double room on the 1st floor), so there are no neighbour disturbances. There are armchairs and a table on the balcony. And the lava pools are free for hotel visitors, plus you can use them also early in the morning and even during the night, if you wish. Stars are fantastic once they switch off the lights in the lave pools late at night (about 1am or so). And sunsets are beautiful every day. The stuff is very friendly!

Review 110:I have nothing to say here

Review 111:First of all, I would like to thank Filipe Fernandes for his help in preparation of our wedding trip to Aqua Natura Madeira! He helped us by e-mail to decide all questions, including place for photo session, airport transfers, the violinist (who was really perfect and helped to make romantic atmosphere) and other. And I thank all the stuff! We've remembered Madeira as amazing place thanks to these sunny and hospitable people. They met us at airport, took to market (where we found incredible madeira's fruits), showed two famous places at the island and took to the hotel. We booked a suite. It's was wonderful: light, airy, nice. There was a balcony with fantastic ocean and natural pool view. The hotel is new one, so it's very pleasant to stay there. And we also remembered towels: soft, with nice smell :) And also thanks for welcome 'just married' surprise from administration for us: candles, fruits and a bottle of rose champaign! Our photo session was hold in solarium area with a huge jacuzzi and sauna. There we also spent our evening, had dinner and relaxed. It's necessary to say, that Atlantic ocean is rather cold! But when you see such unbelievable natural pool, you can stop yourself :) The power of the ocean impresses very much! And it's deep blue color...fantastic! Thanks a lot! and we hope we can come back to Madeira and your hotel again. IULIIA&DENIS

Review 112:Nothing - it is a very good place to enjoy the north part of the island.

Review 113:This is one of the best hotels we have ever been. The night we arrived the stuff welcomed us with good drinks and gave us some hints for our stay in Porto Moniz. The room was the best part: it is very close to the see and the view was awesome especially at night. The bed was also very comfortable. You cannot miss the restaurant - the food is high quality. We also talked to the chef, she is very friendly and explained us how she makes food which was very interesting. Only in few places in Italy I have eaten as well as in Aqua Natura. It is a must visit hotel and restaurant.

Review 114:Perfect and helpful staff Wonderful view from a room and restaurant Delicious breakfast

Review 115:The mattress and the pillows

Review 116:The location, the room, the view, the ocean, the staff and the great dinner at the restaurant

Review 117:The location right by the ocean.

Review 118:Staff, location, Restaurant, Price Performance ratio, Pool

Review 119:Really nothing!

Review 120:Just a wonderful place to stay!

Review 121:Not much to do at night.

Review 122:Great location.

Review 123:It is the utmost perfect place to spend your holiday. We felt like kings!

Review 124:The jacuzzi was lukewarm.

Review 125:More or less everything. The room, view, food, reception staff.

Review 126:Fantastic view, very friendly staff, a good place for holidays!
