Reviews for Aparthotel Castelnou

Review 1:Nothing really... Would definitely stay again.

Review 2:Modern comfortable 1 bed apartment. Good breakfast. 15 minute walk into town centre. Helpful staff. Discount voucher given on check out for future bookings using their own website.

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:Location, friendly and helpful staff, safe and secure parking, excellent quality room and facilities, very clean, excellent food and atmosphere!

Review 5:Restaurant bit expensive but same that other places in Belgium. It is that life is more expensive in comparison with Spain

Review 6:Location, The hotel itself. Quiet. Personal. Breakfasts

Review 7:Nothing to complain about! Perfect place for a stay in Gent.

Review 8:Spacious apartment for a reasonable price, situated close to the city centre (15 minutes walk), parking opportunities for a good price, very friendly and helpful personal

Review 9:Excellent staff who found and returned mislaid bank card On street parking immediately adjacent to hotel Good breakfast buffet Comfortable walking distance of old town centre

Review 10:Alhough Eurostar and onward train travel to Ghent was well run on outward journey, had eight hours' delay in Bruxelles on return journey - this was not the fault of Aparthotel Castelnou, of course.

Review 11:Although I was travelling alone I had many friends staying elsewhere in Ghent for the Davis Cup final. Also met several others in Aparthotel Castelnou We won the cup - sorry Belgium! Transport by bus and tram excellent. Thanks for providing the 10 x bus ticket pass.

Review 12:Apartment was immaculate staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Food in the restaurant was excellent. Initially think you are "out of town" but it is literally a 10 minute walk to Ghent centre. Fast train from the airport takes an hour to St Pietiers then change to Dampoort station which takes 7 minutes and then a short t walk to apartments cost15 euros. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE CASTELNOU.

Review 13:The location isn't exactly ideal -- it's a 20 minute walk to the old part of town, and there are few shops close by. Nevertheless, I always felt perfectly safe, even as a single woman. The ONLY thing that irritated me was that the TV came on automatically every time I placed the door card in its slot to turn on the electricity. I unplugged the TV, so that solved that, but of course the staff re-plugged it after cleaning. I couldn't access any English-speaking channels (and unfortunately, my Dutch and French are non-existant) so I couldn't watch anything on TV - but hey, I didn't come to Ghent to watch TV! Breakfast was disappointing (I felt it was a bit 'cheap' on quality of ingredients - don't bother with the cereals - and no little jugs were available to take milk back to your table for English tea drinkers like me), so I cooked my own breakfasts most days. NB that shops close early in Ghent!! (There are wonderful speciality bakeries and cheese stores in this town, but they take some finding.) Be sure to stock up on food supplies early in the day.

Review 14:A good sized single-bedroom apartment, with dining table, separate study desk, kitchenette, comfy bed, lovely bathroom, nice view across to the old part of town. All clean, new, nice quality, and well laid out. All perfect, really. The staff are lovely and speak English fluently.

Review 15:Location was a bit far from main city centre for my liking. Took me a 20 minute walk in and then same back again. I found the bed rather hard and the large pillow was uncomfortable too. Sound insulation wasn't the best as heard people above washing/showering even!

Review 16:Clean, modern apartment. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh with good variety. Overall, a pleasant place to stay at reasonable value considering the size of the apartment.

Review 17:Staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful with any queries we had and even offered information they felt would be helpful without us having to ask. Excellent breakfast!

Review 18:The only thing and this is not a criticism is that it is a good 15 minute walk into the city centre, but it does help walk off all the food and wonderful Belgian beer.

Review 19:Beautiful building, very comfortable room. Everything you would want. Very clean, Staff extremely helpful. Breakfast excellent.

Review 20:Quite a distance from attractions. Bar staff seemed uninterested.

Review 21:Very quiet location, comfortable and clean room. Reception staff helpful and friendly.

Review 22:2 single beds pushed together and they slid about on hard floor not ideal at all no double bed

Review 23:Plenty of space clean apartment Lovely and quiet fab breakfast loads of choice great location

Review 24:I specifically booked this place as it has kitchenettes in the rooms. However, for tea-drinkers it was disappointing - tiny kettle and cups. Also the electric hob was difficult to work. No recycling bin for waste

Review 25:Very helpful receptionist. Clean and spacious room. Breakfast good. Excellent value for money

Review 26:Menu fixed perhaps a little more variety and more choice of local dishes.

Review 27:Very enjoyable, helpful staff, very comfortable accommadation-close to old city

Review 28:Terrible beds, old and worn-off matresses ?

Review 29:Perfect apartment, walking distance from City-Center; competent and friendly personel, clean & well-kept. Breakfast o.K.

Review 30:There was a small mix up about the number of people staying and we were charged extra. The reception realised their mistake after we had left, refunded the money and sent a nice e mail.

Review 31:The apartments are clean and stylish - the restaurant is great and open all day .

Review 32:Your ad quoted £262.82 subject to exchange rate. Htl charged 291.17 @ 1.22. I think this is excessive due to current exchange rate which is around 1.3. This makes your advert not very representative of the real situation. This is nearly 11% more. Still happy with stay.

Review 33:The hotel was excellent, clean tidy, easy walking distance from the centre of Ghent. The restaurant was also very good with good quality value for money menu

Review 34:Some minor things: bathtub drainage didn't work as straightforward as it should, but the system is being fixed. Some of the breakfast was lukewarm instead of hot.

Review 35:Great appartment, lots of space and a comfy bed for which there are two different pillow types to choose from.

Review 36:Friendly staff and reception, clean and tidy rooms, location close to old town and easy to walk to. Nice to have tea and coffee making facilities, and coffee machine!

Review 37:Friendly staff, excellent location within easy walking distance of the city centre, great breakfast. Large clean room that was fantastic value for money. We arrived by bike and were allowed to put them in a secure bike store in the basement

Review 38:The only thing I could comment on was that in the bathroom there was only one bath towel and one hand towel - not really sufficient when two people showering.

Review 39:We only stayed one night so the fact that we had a studio was irrelevant, but it was a nice room and comfortable. Even having to pay for private parking was a bonus in Ghent as didn't have to use car, only 10 minutes walk into centre of Ghent. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very very helpful.

Review 40:No complaints!

Review 41:The apartment was in a great location, stylishly furnished and very comfortable. Not only that, but you could also get a great beer in the bar downstairs, parking was secure, and the breakfast buffet was exceptional.

Review 42:This is a small complaint but they didn't provide face/wash cloths in the room. We just bought a body pouf to remedy the situation. Other than that, no complaints.

Review 43:We loved the room and the potential for longer stays. It was clean and spacious with modern amenities. It had a small kitchenette that gave you an opportunity to cook your own meals if you wanted to, which could save money. They provide cooking equipment, dishes, utensils, etc. There was plenty of storage space for clothes. The living areas were minimally furnished but comfortable. There was free "standard" wi-fi but you could pay for faster service. They also have a parking garage with assigned spaces for a minimum daily charge. We enjoyed how quiet the neighborhood was at night. The continental breakfast was satisfying, offering cold cuts, cheese, fresh fruit, variety of bread and pastries, coffee, tea, juices and a variety of condiments. The hotel was walking distance from the city center, maybe a 10-15 minutes along canals and through quaint neighborhoods. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Ghent.

Review 44:The shower floor is quite slippery, you need to be careful.

Review 45:Proximity to the city centre (15 minute walk), also well connected by bus to the main train station and to the city centre (the bus stop is just in front). The apartment is very spacious and comfortable.

Review 46:Bed was a bit soft for me but for to be fair maybe most people like a softer mattress.

Review 47:Awesome staff, facilities, clean, close to town, amazing evening meals, what a chef!

Review 48:breakfast was not great but we did arrive quite late. Locationed about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the city centre.

Review 49:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Offered a complimentary drink for my husband and I as it was my birthday. Reception were in touch to say I had left something in the room and they promptly posted it back to me.

Review 50:- no soap bar and shower gel (only liquid soap ) - not cozy room - not tasty breakfast, Lipton tea...

Review 51:- good location - people on reception is great - good choice on the breakfast

Review 52:Hotel parking is limited, public parking nearby is possible but good luck (it worked for us).

Review 53:City centre just 10-15min to walk. Room offers generous space. Internet booking went well, everything was prepared properly

Review 54:Nothing at all

Review 55:Fantastic place, quiet, clean, comfortable, some of the best self-catering facilities we've ever had, including coffee machine with some pods. Lovely bathroom. Extremely helpful staff who gave a good overview of the city on arrival. Regular buses to Gent Sint Pieters station (all the 70+ ones from nearby). Not too far to walk to the historic centre, but the 17 and 18 buses go there.

Review 56:Excellent location within a 15 minute walk into the centre of Ghent with secure off road parking. Room was quiet, comfortable and clean with plenty of space. Kitchenette area well equipped and self service breakfast had a good choice. Staff were very friendly and welcoming

Review 57:A reasonable walk from city centre, but walk is flat and area felt safe and on tram route

Review 58:Pretty good breakfast for the price and multiple device internet worked fine

Review 59:The staff in the dining room could have been a little more attentive considering we were the only guests in the dining room.

Review 60:Great stay, perfect location with secure parking. The receptionist was extremely helpful

Review 61:Sofa looks good but isn't really very comfortable.

Review 62:The staff was super friendly and helpful, the room and hotel decor was modern and well designed, the rooms were very quiet. The location has easy access to the center of town but far away enough to feel like you're staying in the "real" Gent and not the touristy part of Gent so neighborhood stores are better. Kitchenette helps save money on meals.

Review 63:breakfast wasn't refilled 30 minutes prior to the published closing time.

Review 64:excellent customer service at the bar and restaurant in the evening and checkin

Review 65:all was good -parking was right outside

Review 66:Modern Apartment with very helpful staff Helped me to book in my car to recharge the air conditioning -nothing was too much trouble -very impressed -Lisbet was extremely helpful

Review 67:It's nice to have a restaurant facility where you can end up after a long day of wandering around in beautiful Ghent of from a trip to a nearby place of interest like Iepes.

Review 68:the room was big enough and very clean, also the bathroom, the coffee maker in the room, the terrace outside the dining room, breakfast was complete and delicious, near the city center.

Review 69:A little distant from the old centre, but we did know the location.

Review 70:Spacious, well equipped Aparthotel. Very professional helpful staff. Secure on site covered parking.

Review 71:Little disclike: the TV switched on every time I entered the room and put the card in the holder. Sometimes the temperature of the lift was a bit warm (but outside temperature was between 30-35C!)

Review 72:Personel was kind and helpful. Room was clean and in order. The size of the room was comfortable and felt like home.

Review 73:the room, the facilities, the staff, breakfast all excellent, plus super location and very secure parking for my Harley could not have been more perfect for us, highly recommended

Review 74:Rather away from to the city center - you have to walk about 20 minutes.

Review 75:Big and comfortable living room and bedroom with all facilities you can ask. Very careful staff. Despite well equipment kitchen they served a very good buffet breakfast. Private parking.

Review 76:Just abit of walking from the historical centre. But you can always grab a bus ticket.

Review 77:The receptionist was very helpful, room is very clean and spacious. Near to Gent Dampoort station.

Review 78:The coffee machine didn't work in one of the apartments, but this was not a problem for us.

Review 79:2 of our group have gluten allergies, so fresh gluten-free bread was provided every morning at breakfast. The staff also dealt with a lost item left behind in the room very quickly.

Review 80:Cant think of anything really !

Review 81:Soon as we walked in it was clearly an impressive place. Busy restaurant with very good menu and good food. Bar and lounge area . We booked a top floor apartment and the views were excellent. The apartment has a good sized double bedroom with comfortable bed. Lounge with Loewe TV, leather sofas, dining table and chairs. Kitchen with microwave, hob, dishwasher, espresso, toaster. Far exceeded what we were expecting for the price- and that included a very varied breakfast of typical Belgian meats and cheeses or egg and bacon. Or both! 10/10

Review 82:The room decor is drab with grey and brown. The location is 15 - 20 minutes walk from town centre. Parking is extra on top of quite expensive room rate. I couldn't get wi-fi to work on my laptop (although it was working ok on Apple devices). The orange juice at breakfast tasted fake and the scrambled eggs seemed as though they were from a carton.

Review 83:Spacious room. Modern hotel.

Review 84:It's a 10-15 minute walk alongside a canal to the centre of Ghent, which is fine if the weather is good. . . .

Review 85:Our hotel room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a well appointed kitchenette (m/w, fridge, hob, coffee machine). Breakfast was also enjoyable, with a good selection that included bacon and scrambled egg. Others who ate there recommended the hotel restaurant for an evening meal.

Review 86:-would have liked a sofa bed in the living room, in its absence we had to move one bed from the bedroom into the living room; to be fair the hotel would have done it for us if we had asked - bath tub plumbing was malfunctioning

Review 87:comfortable bed spacious living room good kitchen

Review 88:I liked having a large, well furnished and spotlessly clean apartment. I appreciated the view and the location - it was a pleasant walk or short bus journey to the centre of the old city. But what made my stay so memorable was the exceptional friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. As an 'older' traveller I was grateful for all the tips the receptionists gave me to make travel and sightseeing hassle-free. And a big thank you to the chef who created vegetarian options on request. It was an easy, pleasant place to stay - I hope to return.

Review 89:Excellent location for walk into Ghent city, comfortable room and the shower was good. Room has small food preparation area which is a nice touch. Would advise booking a car park space as parking can be a nightmare in the area. Would stay again.

Review 90:It is no a big deal but some of the cleaning staff were a bit tough with my kids when they were running Just outside the room l.

Review 91:Design. Space. And the location. If you are planning to visit Ghent. Staying in this hotel is the way to go.

Review 92:Great welcome at the reception desk with staff who couldnt have been more helpful. Very modern and clean hotel in a good location about a 20 minutes walk from the centre of Gent.

Review 93:The breakfast is little bit simple , the bread dry but the croissants excellent!

Review 94:The view over the city (4th floor), the appartment-it was really huge and comfortable

Review 95:Trying to find the car park!

Review 96:The room was airy with plenty of room. Sofa could do with some cushions, but we used pillows. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Would use it again.

Review 97:everything was fantastic.

Review 98:everything quiet location with nice walk to town along the canal. self catering if you want to use it is great. fantastic breakfast with a good choice of food. friendly multilingual staff . secure car parking [small charge]

Review 99:There is nothing bad to say, however I like recycling and would just suggest a bin for recyclable waste in the room.

Review 100:Wow, from the moment we arrived we were delighted. We received a warm welcome from the friendly knowledgeable staff, hotel information, a local map, even a children's sightseeing map for the youngest member of our group! We arrived before advertised check-in and were hoping to park our car and head into town, but our room was ready and available for early check-in. Our parents, travelling with us, were effectively given a complimentary upgrade because the neighbouring room to ours was available. The breakfast buffet was ample and fresh. Access into Ghent was easily walkable and Ghent itself is beautiful with amazing architecture, canal boat tours and walks. Access by car to Bruges, Antwerp and Brussels is also quick from here. A great place to be based, was like home from home. Wish we had booked more than four days!

Review 101:Restaurant may refuse to take order, even for take-away (if they are busy).

Review 102:Location (easy in/out of city, but also easy to walk to center). Extremely clean. Nice to have bedroom separate from living area. Nicely equipped kitchenette. Good parking at reasonable price.

Review 103:A very comfortable apartment. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was excellent. Great location for us as we enjoyed the walk along the river into town every day.

Review 104:The twin bed (we are a double bed couple ;)) but I didn't think about it when we reserved the room, so I'm not sure if they offer double beds or not. The breakfast's fruit salad. I don't know how that works, but larger hotel's breakfast fruit salads always taste like.. nothing. Too bad as I like my fruit in the morning.

Review 105:The location was ideal for us, but take a 15 min walk to the city center into account. 10 min from the Dampoort station. The room was really tidy, a little bit stuffed with all the furniture, it also had a tiny kitchenette (which we didn't need).

Review 106:Nice modern hotel with large comfortable apartments and helpful staff. Located not far away from the historical center (15 min walk). Restaurant serves delicious dinners. Breakfasts were also tasty although some bigger variety (different cheeses, hot milk etc.) could make it event better.

Review 107:The breakfast in my opinion was not at the level of the other things.

Review 108:Excellent staff, very kind and helpful! I had to change my booking, and they managed to avoid me the penalty, although in theory I should have paid. Whenever they could, they really helped. The hotel apartments are big and nice. The bathtub is perfect for relax. Nice TV, good internet connection.

Review 109:Nothing. One improvement would be to provide some oven and microwave dishes.

Review 110:Room was very comfortable and was of a good size for 3 adults. Great breakfast. Lovely staff. Easy walking distance to the centre of town. Easy to get from Gent-Sint-Pieters Railway Station - any bus from 70 to 78 stops near the apartment.

Review 111:Staff were very helpful, the facilities great, the hotel situated close to the city centre, yet in a quiet part of town. Breakfasts were great. The church bells on Christmas morning were incredible.

Review 112:The TV starts off automatically every time you enter the room.

Review 113:Breakfast was great and so was the room itself. We got a 2 room apartment and it was nicely furnished and clean. The food in the restaurant downstairs was good as well. All the staff were courteous and friendly

Review 114:Nothing negative. This place is the gold standard for hotels.

Review 115:Everything about this place was phenomenal. For starters, Ghent is gorgeous and the hotel is so close to the canals. The parking situation was great - felt very secure. The staff - I think the guy's name was Luke - were outstanding. Fun, informative, so great at interacting with our 4-year-old. The room was wonderful - we wished we'd booked to stay longer. The lounge and bedroom were spacious and if you were using the cooking facilities, I'm sure they'd be excellent. Great shower. And we were in Ghent for the Xmas markets which were awesome.

Review 116:The only thing my mother didnt like was having to leave! :)

Review 117:I booked this hotel for my mother to come visit me and my wife in Belgium, it was during the Christmas season so was a busy time for the staff. From check in to check out the entire experience was one of the best apar hotels my mother ever had. Excellent everything at this place. Staff are friendly and very helpful, the room was extremely clean and spotless, it was so clean you could eat off the floor! Hallways clean and cleaning staff are very smart, polite and do an excellent job. Facilities are super with every practical item in the kitchen, everything about this place is perfect and my mother is the type to complain about everything but not at this place. We will most certainly be back soon, thank you all at Castelnou for giving my mother a great Christmas experience!

Review 118:Microwave/cooker a bit confusing to operate but we got there in the end.

Review 119:The facilities in the apartment - microwave, fridge, cooker. Staff very helpful.

Review 120:The whole experience at the Aparthotel was fabulous, from ample secure parking to the delicious food, well served in the restaurant. Rooms were spacious and very comfortable, breakfast was good and the staff could not be more helpful, especially at reception helping with all queries about Gent. Located in Quiet part of the city, there was a regular bus service from a stop just 200 metres from the hotel - or a 15 minute walk to the city centre.

Review 121:Close enough to the city centre to walk without the noise of the Christmas markets. Staff very helpful and friendly. Restaurant staff also very helpful especially with a late check in.

Review 122:The location was the reason we chose this location. The ability to reserve a parking space was handy for us and the room was great, but the real selling point here is the amazing staff, wonderfully helpful, highly recommended, will stop here again!

Review 123:Such a shame that none of the apartments are interconnecting. My husband and I had to split into different rooms as could not accommodate all 5 of us in one room. Interlinking rooms would have made it perfect.

Review 124:Lovely clean modern apartments. Really helpful friendly staff. Very comfortable beds and great having kitchen facilities if you are planning a longer stay (we just had a one night stop over on the way to holland). I would advise pre booking secure parking space to guarantee a parking space if arriving late like us and with a car full of luggage. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel

Review 125:no negative points

Review 126:staff were absolutely wonderful, we stayed the 15th nov and the restaurant staff helped us because reception closes at 4.30. The lovely staff in the restaurant took us round to the car park to show us where to go - secure parking on site very good. Then served us a lovely meal - again good value and local fare. Beds very comfortable and everything very clean. simple grey décor everywhere. Excellent breakfast,

Review 127:Appartments were clean but could be more cosy Room near to the elevator Ventilation in the appartment

Review 128:Clean and comfortable rooms; Very friendly staff; Good breakfast.

Review 129:Great parking, nice and spacy rooms. 3 people in a appartment is noproblem at all. Breakfast is what you expect and its close to the citycentre. A taxi ride to the heart of the city cost only 8.50 euro for 4persons :)

The Fine Print
