Reviews for Hotel Cidadela

Review 1:We have lived in Cidadela many times, but now many things are out off work! We felt the hotel will close very soon. Sorry!

Review 2:The staff were very friendly, the view fantastic from the balcany and the beds were OK

Review 3:Decor is from the 80's but room was clean....there is a bit of road noise but in fairness it is addressed with a second sliding soundproofing door to the terrace.

Review 4:Pool is great, pool bar/restaurant could do with a bit of a facelift but still not bad or unclean, in fact the whole hotel could do with a bit of a faclift/modernisation, and if contemporised could be fantasic, our 4th floor room had a great view over the rooftops. Overall, great value for money and in a way has a certain 80's charm.

Review 5:wifi did not work in room dinner menu displayed at dining room entrance was not available, only after sitting down did we discover a very limited menu...1 copy for dining room!

Review 6:sunshine, location, friendly and efficient bar..best Irish coffee in years! great view of Cascais and harbour

Review 7:The Portuguese banking system going down over night making an early departure for the airport late.

Review 8:Internal garden and pool surrounded by the hotel and town.

Review 9:Breakfast was a bit limited and uninspired.

Review 10:Good clean hotel. Location was good for walking into town or getting a bus from the stop just outside the hotel. It was very clean and comfortable with friendly staff. The pool area was well maintained with lots of sunbeds.

Review 11:noise from the street, bathroom accessories little old and would require replacement

Review 12:The view from my balcony. The rooms, large balcony, cleaning, close enough to the train and bus stations. Breakfast good, but kinda shabby, every day the same, and without vegetables.

Review 13:Food, juice and tea regularly ran out at breakfast and was not replaced in a timely manner. It would be good to have muesli as a choice of cereal. One hot container of food is insufficient when the dining room is busy. Staff would benefit from customer service training.

Review 14:Large room with fantastic view over the bay. The lady who looked after our room was charming and keep the room clean, changing towels daily. The pool area is lovely and the staff pleasant and helpful. The lounge bar offered a comfortable setting where staff were pleased to serve you.

Review 15:Would have preferred to have been nearer the beach

Review 16:Fantastic view from our 5th floor balcony. Swimming pool & gardens lovely. Inclusive very good breakfast. Attentive, cheerful & very helpful staff. Cascais beautiful, will come again.

Review 17:Wifi was very poor and the room was old fashioned with old carpet and to includ the lights in the room was quite dark.

Review 18:Very good location in the heart of Cascais.

Review 19:WIFI wasn't great.

Review 20:The friendly staff on reception, the guy with the great sense of humour serving on most days at the outside bar and the brilliant lady cleaning the rooms.

Review 21:There was no hairdrier in the bathroom

Review 22:The hotel is very close to the centre. There is a beautiful pool and the breakfast is good. The room had a balcony in front of the ocean

Review 23:Furniture a little tired. No hot water in the pool shower. A very cold shower when changing for home is no great. Chair on balcony broken an although reported never changed

Review 24:Quiet relaxing pool. Unobtrusive staff. Close to center although the up hill walk is demanding

Review 25:The traffic was noisy during the day but with double sliding doors onto the balcony we did not hear the noise at night

Review 26:Cascais has a lot to offer Nice train trip to Lisbon, only 40 minutes away Good sightseeing, shopping and nice resturants with good food

Review 27:Wifi didn't work after several tries Water pressure very poor on 5th floor. Bathroom too small and old.

Review 28:Breakfast was very good. Ocean view from window was nice. Staff at front desk very nice.

Review 29:I cannot say there was anything I did not like.

Review 30:Everything was so clean and had everything you need, nice pool, clean towels daily, staff were very helpful. Breakfast had a good variety.

Review 31:Lighting in rooms not good. Most of the staff with exception of 2 were not in the least sociable. No information in rooms about the hotel facilities etc

Review 32:Location in the Old Town. Pool facilities. Size of Apartment.

Review 33:Very "tired" hotel. Carpets in hallways and rooms need replacing ad bathrooms need updating.

Review 34:View from balcony. Fairly convenient to restaurants and beach. Reception staff very helpful.

Review 35:The internet connection didn't work 95% of the time. The breakfast was boring with overcooked eggs (both scrambled and boiled). The room looked clean by first glance, but the carpet was actually badly hoovered and the bath had the previous occupant's hair all over.

Review 36:I liked the size of the room and the view from the balcony.

Review 37:40 years old furniture in the dining room; dirty windows, lack of maintenance in the surrounding green areas; poor old piano in the reception area with a broken keyboard ( broke my heart ) WiFi was not working properly unless you squeezed yourself into a little corner of the ground floor common computer room. All in all very disappointed except for the location. They need a new General Manager !

Review 38:Location

Review 39:Some facilities, such as water taps, were not so well functioning, because somewhat old. Hotel restaurant was very pleasant, unfirtunately no guests at all for dinner - which was sad... but understandable, given so many restaurants near beaches.

Review 40:Very old and very charming hotel. Very spacious rooms, baby bed provided, great breakfast. City beaches within 10 min walking distance.

Review 41:Bed was very comfortable but pillows werenot, Thats te only thing. I would def go back there. Great place!

Review 42:Our room was big and clean, nice balcony with the ocean view. Very nice and helpfull staff, they all made us feel welcome. Nice continental breakfast. Located 10 minutes walking dow the hill from the beach. Free private car park. We loved staying there.

Review 43:Walking up the hill at night after a brilliant day out seeing the sights of Cascais and Estoril after a delicious meal at one of numerous restaurants

Review 44:This is a comfortable well appointed Hotel with excellent friendly Staff and lovely views out to sea ( we were on 4th floor)

Review 45:When my flight to Portugal was postponed by one day due to weather, the hotel staff adjusted my booking by one day. They were very pleasant and helpful. It made my time in Cascais much more pleasant.

Review 46:Sometimes WI-FI signal disappeared for rather long periods of time. The breakfast was substantial but a bit repetitive - the same food served every day. The breakfast room was cosy though smallish; in high season it might get overcrowded, but for us it was OK

Review 47:The location and the general atmosphere of the hotel suited perfectly the purpose of our trip - quiet, relaxing holidays far from hustle and bustle of big cities. In the daytime we enjoyed a spectacular view from the balcony (we lived on the 4th floor) at the bay and the rooftops of Cascais. At night we slept soundly as the windowpanes were soundprooof and the beds were comfortable and LONG (very important if you're in Portugal!) In general we liked our stay at the hotel Cidadela and would gladly come back!

Review 48:Nothing not to like!

Review 49:Serious double glazing means a quiet stay but easy access to the seafront and shops The weather was cold but the heating in the bedroom and public rooms was excellent

Review 50:nope.

Review 51:10 minute walk from the sea. Large rooms, comfy beds, good airco, large bathroom. Everything is a bit oldish but clean and functioning. On a busy road but with the windows closed it's silent. Extensive breakfastbuffet.

Review 52:We had a room right by the lifts and I could hear people talking until late in the evening.

Review 53:This is a big old hotel in a great location, about 5-6 walk down into the old town. Free parking and a big outside pool. We had a big room with a great view and a separate lounge area where they had put the extra bed for our 5 year old. The bed was comfortable and clean. We had a evening flight the next day and the staff allowed us to stay til 4.30 free of charge which was really helpful and accommodating especially as it raining, and lots of things to do in Cascias were closed ( it was a Monday ) the breakfast was pretty good, I've had better but the whole package for the price was really reasonable. ( awful coffee though from one of those 'press the button machines' ) I even liked the very dated décor. This place has so much potential but it really needs an update! The carpets and bathrooms have been cleaned to death.

Review 54:Located a good 10 minutes walk from town centre in a hilly area - not good if you have any kind of walking difficulty. Hotel is very old fashioned - 1960,s but, kept pretty clean. Pool looked a bit cloudy

Review 55:Free parking

Review 56:The carpet of the rooms to old. The service not the best one. Everything is old

Review 57:The location was close to downtown. 20 minutes walking. The pool looks nice!

Review 58:Location was a bit of a problem, up a very steep hill. You had to go into town for shops and restaurants. Nothing nearby except a newsagents. Fortunately they have a bus stop outside the hotel and the bus comes every 20 mins.

Review 59:The reception staff were very helpful. I requested a room on the 4th or 5th floor a day after I booked. When we got there we were on the 3rd floor.I said we were very disappointed. After a short wait the manager changed us to the 4th floor. I liked that.

Review 60:Hotel a bit dated and shabby in places and also close to busy road so noisy at times.

Review 61:Central location, albeit up a steep hill, clean rooms, great views of the bay and lovely swimming pool.

Review 62:The hotel bedroom was dirty. The carpet had not been cleaned for some time as was demonstrated by the old hairclips and clumps of dust on floor. The lighting was very dingy ( some lamps had bulbs missing) and the furniture old and dated. The noise from the road was very loud and made it impossible to sit on balcony. Overpriced

Review 63:Location OK. Pool OK

Review 64:Breakfast a bit chaotic as staff not to helpful.

Review 65:good location, close to marina (10 min' walk) Secure parking, easy to find and easy to leave, close to main road out of Cascais,10 min's to auto Estrada. Good and adequate breakfast.

Review 66:Locked frig in the room forbiden for private use (only as a minibar), weak remote controle for tv, that covers only few tv programs and street loudness.

Review 67:Retained original styling from 70´, good room with nice view (5th floor), friendly and helpfull stuff at the reception and room maid and good location.

Review 68:Shabby worn bathroom towels. Miserable dining room staff, not one greeting in any language! So decided not to bother eating lunch or dinner there. We had the last room in the hotel, it was advertised as an apartment. No fridge, no facilities at all apart from a plastic chopping board and a tablecloth! Good job we had no intention of self catering. They fixed the broken toilet seat promptly and brought a hair dryer too. Feel sorry for the staff they must realize they are working in a time warp.

Review 69:Pleasant pool and bar staff. Reception staff good. Clean pool - good towels.

Review 70:I was expecting to see a desktop/ or laptop computer in the hotel lounge, ( similar to other hotels I have stayed in.) But never mind, it was good to be with out any form of internet.

Review 71:Our room was on the 5th floor, and the view during day time and evening time was very nice, if I am able to return to Cascais, I would most likely want to stay at Hotel Cidadela, and it would on the 5th floor.

Review 72:Heavy trafficked road just outside the hotel which need to be crossed. Somewhat old style hotel. Even though the breakfast was good, the coffee was undrinkable - tasted like poison (not even able to kill it with sugar and milk).

Review 73:Good balcony with nice view. Hotel has decent pool area. Got fridge in the room. Walking distance to the centre about 5 - 10 minuters.

Review 74:Ageing and in poor condition. The air conditioning did not cool the room but I was OK with the window open as I am used to road noise. The room was clean when I arrived but cleaners did not often hoover the room itself so after 7 days the carpet was a little messy. One day the bin was not emptied either.

Review 75:The room was very spacious and the view was fantastic as I was on the 4th floor.

Review 76:Weak wifi strength.

Review 77:Proximity to the old town, generous good breakfast, overall cleanliness. Helpful staff. It is dated, as is widely reported, but delightfully preserved. We will go again.

Review 78:The furniture was too old, the doors from the wardrobe fell off, the location is not that great - quite a walk to the downtown

Review 79:The staff was very nice and helpfull, view from the room and terrace was wonderful, swimming pool and servuce in the bar excellent, good price

Review 80:Definitely needs updating in bedrooms and main areas - but it was adequate and good value. Even the tv in room was from the last century, but it sort of worked!

Review 81:Location good, apart from swimming pool being by side of busy road - but didn't hear road too much at night, so not really a problem. Reception staff were good and very helpful. Decent lounge area and pool area good. Could get bus to Sintra from right outside hotel. Short walk to marina and centre of town/station - bit steep but not too bad!

Review 82:Good location for town and fairly close to the small town beach. Swimming-pool refreshing option. Breakfast was very good and restaurant and bar staff efficient and friendly. So were the majority of the main desk staff, aside for one fellow who was working evenings.

Review 83:Breakfast staff. Non communicative, disinterested. Not a smile. No energy. The hotel should replace these people!!!

Review 84:Location: Good base to visit Lisbon. Approx 40 mins by train. €4.50 return pp. Safe area. Few minutes walk to centre Cascais and train station. Supermarket along the way. Hotel; Spacious room with a large balcony. Very comfortable beds. Breakfast more than enough variation. Very friendly and helpful staff at reception. This hotel should be rated at least an 8.5 in my view. Very good value for money. We paid €65 pn for a room and that at end of June! Pool with ample amount of beds with bathing towels supplied. Perfectly kept garden and surroundings. Easy and ample parking on site.

Review 85:Dining room very dark and waiters not friendly at all. No facillities to keep you on site. Barbeque one night a week too costly. Atmosphere of hotel non existant

Review 86:The hotel was in a good position for walking into the old parts of Cascais It was very clean. Our maid was jolly and very helpful. Reception staff were polite at all times but little interaction with guests.

Review 87:Nothing really, we had a great room with a lovely view. Hotel needs updating of furniture and decor but it has all the fundamentals of a lovely hotel. Would stay there again

Review 88:Great location, 5-10 minute walk to the centre. Very clean hotel

Review 89:Very spacious! Great balcony! Loved the place and only a short walk to the city center.

Review 90:The view from the balcony.

Review 91:Needs some updating

Review 92:Apartment was spacious . Staff were very friendly.,

Review 93:Bathroom had leak which made floor wet.

Review 94:Good location ,quiet at night ,adequate breakfast spread

Review 95:Old fashion hotel. Need update(s).

Review 96:Great location, grat staff.

Review 97:Good location, lovely pool, very nice poolside cafe

Review 98:TV was really old with no signal at all overall room needs modernisation

Review 99:Breakfast was great so was the staff

Review 100:Dated furniture, broken lamp, weird smell in the toilet.

Review 101:- WI FI works only in the bathroom. - Price.

Review 102:Cosy hotel. Good location. Polite and helpful staff.

Review 103:no complaints would go back again in a heartbeat

Review 104:breakfast and staff

Review 105:Hotel was very relaxed, Pool area was spotless. The rooms were a little dated but not an issue as everything did its job and was very clean.

Review 107:None

Review 108:Friendly staff, good breakfast, great pool

Review 109:The pool and breakfast oh and free wifi

Review 110:The pool is cool

Review 111:Nothing

Review 112:Clean rooms, basic but everything you need for a short stay. Central location and helpful staff.

Review 113:Quite a lot of noise at night from the road

Review 114:Nice big room

Review 115:Just noise from nearest street

Review 116:Room equipment is like “retro” – we likes it, good location, nice swimming pool

Review 117:Nice big room with a sea view

Review 118:Beds a bit hard

Review 119:Excellent base for Cascais only a ten minute walk away. We were a group on a golfing holiday and many courses nearby

Review 120:cofee... please abandon the machine on the left side

Review 121:room was fully silent; wifi was accessible

Review 122:kettle in the room would be good

Review 123:good breakfast

Review 124:Conveniently located, at 5-10 min walk from the town centre, with nice swimming pool and good parking facilities.

Review 125:A convenient location for this older hotel but the comfort and service were good.

Review 126:They did not cancel reservations, was charged

Review 127:everything

Review 128:Very bad wifi

Review 129:Location is great and staff is amazing

Review 130:Much traffic disturbance during night time.therefore difficult to sleep.

Review 131:The noise coming from the street!!!

Review 132:I like everything. The staff, the suite, the cleaning, the breakfast.

Review 133:Wifi yhteys oli huoneessa surkea eli olematon!

Review 134:Mr.Antony ,the barman was cool!
