Reviews for Estalagem de Monsaraz

Review 1:Comfortable room with wonderful view from window. Very stilish house, like old houses in castle villages, but with everything you would need in modern world. Perfect breakfast. Near to castle. Very friendly and nice people

Review 2:Difficult for my wife to walk about, but that's not a criticism, just that for less able bodied people it is not so easy to get around.

Review 3:Excellent location, friendly staff, all we wanted to see within a short walk from our hotel. Good food in the four different restaurants we tried.

Review 4:Isolation is not so good, we could basically hear everything going on in both the rooms next to ours... Given the price it is a bit disappointing

Review 5:Perfect location just outside the old town of Monsaraz, and wonderful view on the countryside from the swimming pool.

Review 6:There was a wasp nest by the swimming pool under the tiles and the wasps were therefore flying around the swimmers´ heads seemingly irritated

Review 7:Very good location just outside the city walls, easy to park and no parking fee, a charming old fashioned feeling, fabulous view from the room and as fabulous view from the swimming pool with the terrace and chairs. Very nice shady garden. I would go to stay in this place again.

Review 8:Television in the lounge switched on during most of the day even when nobody was watching.

Review 9:Tranquility, historical and cultural authenticity. A Unique, one of a kind experience. Peacefull 3 day stay in the spring season is a unforgetable experience. The staff was just as authentic and pleasureable as the entire setting. Special thanks to Senhora Paula. Muito obrigado Monsaraz.

Review 10:Breakfast. Would not suit anyone wanting an early (before 9 am) departure.

Review 11:Views from estalagem and the quirky layout of the hotel. The swimming pool is great. And an easy walk up to the gorgeous village of Monsaraz.

Review 12:Noise carries in the rooms at night - it sounded like someone was in the room with us.

Review 13:Old stone house with friendly, helpful staff, comfortable rooms, attractive garden with pool and good breakfast.

Review 14:The breakfast buffet was very poor and not maintained. We did not see any staff in the breakfast room either morning and had to go to reception to ask for assistance. The receptionist was not trained and barely competent.

Review 15:Perfectly positioned, in a beautiful medieval village. Swimming pool is a must as it was very hot for September. Very friendly village with great selection of restaurants

Review 16:The breakfast was very poor, no people on the reception, no receipt when paying, no credit/debit cards accepted.

Review 17:Landscape (view from the hotel), the pool (!!!!!!), village, lake, food near by restaurants.

Review 18:Staff was not involving.

Review 19:The location is great, the regional style is beautiful, the price is fair.

Review 20:Fantastic setting Friendly staff

Review 21:Great location

Review 22:Pool Area was poorly layout, most of the chairs were broken and/or not comfortable. Not enough seating for all guests

Review 23:Staff and upgraded room

Review 24:Some of the staff was rude, the bedroom was dirty, every little noise was audible making impossible to sleep.

Review 25:Location, many cats arround

Review 26:The lady at the reception

Review 27:Charming hotel

Review 28:THE BEST spot for a sundowner in Monsaraz. Paula and Ana were wonderful and very professional hostesses.

Review 29:Leaking water in wash-hand basin

Review 30:Location in center of vilage, wonderful garden, decoration in old traditional style, fire in camin in lobby

Review 31:Free Wi-Fi was only available at the lobby...

Review 32:The plumming was nt very good

Review 33:The garden and pool area were great, breakfast was very good, very handy for our visit to Monsaraz

Review 34:Narrow.

Review 35:Swimmingpool.

Review 36:relaxing pool with beautiful surrounding; friendly staff; nice small town

Review 37:Perfect location for our needs. Staff very helpful and friendly- helped with organising wine tastings and also helped us to enjoy our picnic lunch in the terraced garden.

Review 38:Very creaky bed, bedroom needs redecorating. No safe in the room. Bathroom very dated. Bungalow bath. Shower head loose. Dirty swimming pool and poor pool area.

Review 39:Breath-taking location with great views. Breakfast OK.

Review 40:Welcome was totally indifferent. We arrived at 2pm (which I do not think is an outrageous arrival time!) but rooms were not ready and the receptionist was verging on rude that she did not believe we even had a booking. We sat in the sitting room for an hour and a half, with no offers of even a drink of water, until our rooms were ready. The air conditioning in our room did not work and when I told the receptionist there was 'surprise' that the aircon was broken - I am afraid I think she knew. We were moved to another room - where the aircon did work, and the beds were far larger - thankfully as the original double bed was tiny! The Pool was fine, a bit cloudy, though certainly not enough sun loungers for guests. Overall a quaint B&B type hotel and great for Monsaraz but the 'indifference' spoiled it slightly, although value for the price

Review 41:Located close to the Town centre which is only a short walk away. For the price it was fair value

Review 42:Perhaps we were unlucky but on the day we stayed there was hardly anyone around and the staff seemed to be mainly students without much interest in giving information or showing us anything about the hotel.

Review 43:The position and the grounds.

Review 44:The place shuts up for few hours mid day, and if you get there before the check-in time (even if the place is empty) - you aren't getting a room (no fun when wearing bike gear on a hot day). This and a general lack of enthusiasm were markedly at odds with the reception we got every where else in Portugal.

Review 45:It was an interesting property with some stunning views. The village is well worth an overnight stop.

Review 46:Staff claimed pool was "faulty" receptionist very unfriendlyat checkin "you cannot checkin until 3PM", this was at14:58pm. A bit pathetic bathroom was a bit dodgy (no fan) on one of therooms, and the bedroom door wouldn't close.

Review 47:Great location beautiful building stunning views

Review 48:The mattress is a bit tricky - if you or your co-sleeper turns during the night, you'll feel every move.

Review 49:Great location on top of a hill right under a castle! Nice view from the room. If you like some peace and quiet away from the city for one night, you'll like this one.

Review 50:Bed was too hard. Lack of cushions for seats on terrace.

Review 51:The old-fashioned charm of the hotel, which is in a wonderfully preserved medieval town, complete with castle and fantastic views. Friendly locals. Peaceful. Lovely terraced area from which to enjoy the evening sun. Great food at the nearby restaurant.

Review 52:Nothing to report.

Review 53:Really pleasant place to spend the night if you're travelling around the Alentejo province. It is located inside the charming and quiet little village of Monsaraz, offering great views of the Alqueva valley. The hotel is right close to a nice restaurant that serves traditional food and wine from Alentejo, and within walking distance from a few others that we have not tried. The room was clean and comfortable, staff were helpful and the breakfast was really varied and enjoyable.

Review 54:Not too much of a problem but car parking is several minutes away fromthe hotel.A bit noisy from the club opposite at weekends but no problem to us.

Review 55:Loved the location, just off the main square with bars and restaurants, etc. Very Spanish. Helpful & friendly staff.

Review 56:Staff were noisy late at night. We had to ask for breakfast buffet itemsto be replaced as they frequently ran out, ie bread, coffee, juice...Access for elderly or disabled was hard due to lots of stairs

Review 57:The staff were friendly and very helpful. The views and surroundingcountryside were superb. The hotel was unusual, a rambling mix of rooms

Review 58:We stayed in March and the weather was quite cold. The heating in ourroom didn't work so we were quite cold during the night and ended upsleeping in our long pants and sweaters. The trash bin in our bathroomhadn't been emptied before our arrival and was overflowing when wegot there.

Review 59:The Estalagem is at the base of the castle so the location is amazing. We had a panoramic room with access to a rooftop lookout and view of thecastle which was incredible at night! The gardens are lovely and thesitting area with fireplace are very nice and the resident cat isadorable. We enjoyed the breakfast and the other guests were allfriendly so that made the hotel feel very homey.

Review 60:Heating (or fireplace) in the breakfast room was not on and selection the breakfast itself was not good enough for such a place. During the winter they do not do much effort to make things more comfortable for the few guest around.

Review 61:Lumpy and uncomfortable pillows. Very disappointed that the pool was green and we were unable to swim in it!

Review 62:Lovely room and fantastic location just outside the village walls.

Review 63:This hotel is one of the nicest I have stayed in. Monsaraz is a wonderful place if a little sleepy. Two really good restaurants, one run by two sisters who were wonderful. Views everywhere to die for. The hotel also has a pool which is a bonus in this part of Portugal which can get very hot in the summer. ighly recommended.

Review 64:Owner and receptionist could not have been nicer. Very comfortable roomto sit around in and restaurent beside hotel and belong to the hotelserved a lovely dinner. The elderly ladies who served us and also cookedthe meal just behind the counter where we sat- we were in no hurry so anice homely friendly service of good food was more enjoyable that a moreformal one we had in a pousada hotel

Review 65:The staff was very friendly and always and willing to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Thank you! The estalagem is a very good choice to stay and move around the region. Its’ in walking distance to the castle its’ in an old typical house and has amazing views. Monsaraz is a very beautiful village that deserves a visit; there is plenty to do, excellent food, wonderful wine, outdoor activities and fantastic sceneries.

Review 66:Excellent host and service in a most unique and wonderful setting. We will be back in the future. Being from Canada, a chance to stay in a medieval setting with excellent service and food was truly a highlight of our trip.

Review 67:We enjoyed our stay.

Review 87:Good breakfast/warm facilities during cold weather/garden

Review 88:Outdoor swiming pool not open without pre warning when reservating

Review 89:Everything, that was not too much because the outdoor swiming poll wasn't open.

Review 91:The only thing might be that the bed was a bit stiff.
