Reviews for Horta da Moura

Review 1:Some mix up regarding breakfast so we didn't get any, probably due to the fact we were the only guests in!

Review 2:Fantastic rural location, beautifully decorated in keeping with its surroundings. We had a lovely suite near the pool.

Review 3:The only think that we didn't like was that the room said that it had a fireplace but accordingly with the staff it was too early to use it. So we've paid for n extra that we couldn't use.

Review 4:Beautiful location with awesome views over Alqueva. The Hotel has great facilities and the staff is very polite.

Review 5:Horta da Moura is a little piece of heaven . The rooms are beautiful and so comfortable ! The views are amazing , the breakfast was fantastic . We didn't have a chance to use the pool but it was very clean and looked so pretty with the view . The castle at Monsarez is a must see. We loved staying here !

Review 6:Unfortunately the bars were not open and not many people there but the staff made up for that.

Review 7:The location, friendliness, breakfast, overall a great place correctly priced.

Review 8:The resturant had a poor menu and food quantity and quality could be improved. There was a problem with flies especially in the bedroom

Review 9:The hotels facilities and an excellent swimming pool area

Review 10:The room service choice was poor. It might be a quiet time of year but the public places could have been made a bit more welcoming

Review 11:Good location friendly staff comfortable rooms plenty of choice at breakfast

Review 12:The hotel is cold in winter, really amazing games rooms, bar and sitting rooms but very cold. They need to light more fires. I will return in spring. Problem with plumbing, we had no water for a while till it was fixed.

Review 13:Great location, wonderful rooms, very good breakfast. Worth coming back when it's warmer! Lovely hotel.

Review 14:there was no water from perhaps 1 am. That meant no toilets, no shower etc. Public areas were so cold people were wearing coats and scarves. They laid small fires in several places, but there was no way that those small fires would warm those big spaces. They are not prepared for winter visitors. The lack of water should have meant that the price was reduced, but it wasn't. Breakfast didn't start until 8.30 am. It was supposed to be part of the price, but we had to be on the road early. So, no shower, no brushing of teeth, no breakfast. Not good.

Review 15:Restaurant was good.

Review 16:Too many flies! Asked for room to be sprayed but didn't happen. Tissues could have been supplied in room.

Review 17:Beautiful setting, large, comfortable suite, excellent dinner and choices for breakfast . Love to come again as lots to see nearby.

Review 18:If staying for more than a couple of nights, the limited dinner menu choices might prove to be an issue, but quality of meals good (if service a little unfriendly). Surprised at having to choose dinner main course option in advance (pre 7pm) each day.

Review 19:Very easy to find - well signposted from the road. Spacious room and nice grounds to walk in. Bathroom a little dated but perfectly functional. Good wifi coverage. Wonderfully quiet at night - no noise other than the crickets chirping! Breakfast excellent.

Review 20:The location was charming and beautiful. The junior suite was spacious, clean and private with a terrace. Views and grounds were magnificent. Horses and donkeys and one of the oldest olive trees alive. The games room, the pool, the breakfast...everything was better than we could have imagined, especially for the price. Will definately return..more than once, we were sad to only have one night.

Review 21:The staff and facility were just great. Mr. Joaquin Rodrigues who is on staff made us feel like we have been friends for years. People like that are what makes a vacation and stay much more pleasant. Will be back!

Review 22:high price/quality ratio; poor front desk service (waited 25 min for checkout, one front desk member only); poor management, someone should put some order on the use of the swimming pool, you can't let people reserve 8 chairs with towels for one family and then leave.

Review 23:Surrounding area, beautiful Monsaraz in the heart of Alto Alentejo; rich history; architectonic style of the Hotel; swimming pool with view to olive tree countryside; cleaning people are the best of the entire staff

Review 24:Our room had over 60 flies in it when we arrived and it took a while to get rid of them! No help given by reception staff.

Review 25:Fabulous breakfast - best ever! Really lovely spacious rooms. Gorgeous pool area and the outside space is agricultural - you can visit the donkeys and horses, which was nice for the kids.

Review 26:I did not think that the staff were used to international clients they did not explain themselves very well. We had to pay for our two night stay before we had even seen our room, then had to choose from menu only at reception our dinner for that evening, which was very poor for the money and not hot enough had to be sent back . The staff were not friendly and welcoming at all. The same at breakfast, good breakfast but total silence in the breakfast room no atmosphere at all. I do not think that this Hotel is used to travellers who do not speak Portguese. Would not go back lovely location but that is all.

Review 27:Location and the Alqueva lake enjoyed Evora and the hotel we stayed at last June 2013 much better.More welcoming from the staff and better atmosphere.

Review 28:Amazing staff. Superior meals

Review 29:Entree at restaurant missed under strange circumstances

Review 30:The pool and very well maintained hotel

Review 31:The suite itself, the super comfortable bed, the breakfast, the professionalism of the staff, the location.... everything!

Review 32:The lack of staff, the low quality breakfast, the dead atmosphere.

Review 33:The suite was v good

Review 34:the dinner- overpriced restaurant and slow service

Review 35:the place is wonderful

Review 36:Very quiet and green, boutique style, very tasty food from main menu, a lot of a interesting leisure activities upon request

Review 37:short stay

Review 38:Slippers and bath robe, very different

Review 39:Dinner might have some more choice.

Review 40:Spacious room (junior suite); splendid surroundings; personnel very friendly.

Review 41:Somehow indifferent staff. Looks like they were in hibernation (end of February)

Review 42:Close to Monsaraz. Good restaurant.

Review 43:Lot of flies

Review 44:all the things were good

Review 45:food swiming pool location

Review 46:The location, the pool, the beautiful surroundings.

Review 47:Nothing to report.

Review 48:Location to Monsaraz. Quality of room and hotel. Restaurant food and service

Review 49:Having to preorder dinner

Review 50:Rooms execelent great breakfast , lovely pool

Review 51:Everything apart from the breakfast which was appalling

Review 52:The staff could have been friendlier and a bit more 'service oriented'. They always helped - but there was zero warmth.

Review 53:The hotel was lovely - restaurant great, grounds were beautiful, and rooms were adorable.

Review 54:This place scores an easy 9 out 10 and if you really had to search for something to improve, then it would be to supply a tea/coffee maker in the room and perhaps a smile on the face of the main waitress would make the restaurant experience even better.

Review 55:A really beautiful place. We stayed in a suite and that was very comfortable. The food in the restaurant is really quite special (we took the 'set' menu which included some pleasant surprises). Lovely gardens. Nice pool area. We will be back!

Review 56:In May the hotel was very quiet, almost deserted. There were not many staff visible though there was always someone at reception to help. I find this odd as the Alantejo in July/August is horribly hot and the countryside in May is very beautiful with much less heat.

Review 57:beautifully situated under the fortified town of Montsaraz close to the lakes of the Guadiana. Spacious room. comfortable beds, quiet. The hotel is single story and very spread out.

Review 58:I came to photograph the very old olive trees of the proprety. It was extraordinary. They look like very old stones with leaves. The oldest one is 2450 years old.Very mouving

Review 59:Having to leave!

Review 60:Breakfast was superb as was the tasting menu the previous evening. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We had a suite which was well appointed, spacious, with a live log fire and the bed was very comfortable. We slept well. The grounds were interesting with an olive tree 2450 years old. Made the 1000 year old ones look really young!

Review 61:Because the rooms are in scattered buildings, the hotel lacks a sense of a ' common core'. Lights in the room not good for reading . This could be improved with better lighting. The set up cannot be changed

Review 62:Very good restaurant , though service a bit slow. Flower borders and gardens are very nice.

Review 63:Could be a little cleaner (I.E. terrace of room - although bathroomswere absolutely fine)

Review 64:Very spacious rooms with unusual vaulted ceilings; although notfully occupied all facilities/areas where open and staffed.Private and quiet.

Review 65:We only stayed there for one night, but there wasn't anything that we didn't like. Hope to come back with more time!

Review 66:Our stay at Horta da Moura was great! It has an excellent location, near Monsaraz, and the hotel is a very pleasant place to be. The suite is very confortable and the gardens/view are fantastic. The swimming pool is great, we went in the late afternoon and had a good time there. It's also very good for families with kids, because there's enough space for everybody and even with kids it is a peaceful place. We loved the breakfast and the horses too!

Review 67:Breakfast coffee!

Review 68:Excellent junior suite. Comfortable and spacious. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good restaurant and grouns. A feeling of space and relaxation with the hotel layout.

Review 69:We had a meal in the restaurant which was very well appointed, the food was presented well but unfortunately was almost cold when we received it.

Review 70:Hotel was set in lovely grounds and only a short drive to Monsaraz old town itself. Breakfast was excellent. Rooms were well maintained and very clean. Manager was very helpful.

Review 71:Location within a couple of minutes' drive from Monsaraz and within easy reach of Esporao winery, where we were heading for a tour. Our 'senior suite' room was enormous and quiet, but mainly because of its size, looked sparsely furnished. Breakfast included was adequate. Outdoor pool and deck terracing was excellent. Restaurant looked very quiet so we went into the village and had a traditional-style meal in a busier place. All staff helpful and very unobtrusive.

Review 72:A stylish country hotel a short distance from both the picturesque hilltop town of Monsaraz and the largest artifical lake in Europe. The facilities were excellent and included an infinity pool, tennis court and the opportunity for horse riding. The staff were attentive and helpful. But the high point for us was the hotel restaurant which over two nights provided meals of real quality. The chef used herbs and fruit in the savoury dishes with great flair and creativity. My wife described her humdrum-sounding vegetable kebab as " to die for" . And it wasn't expensive.

Review 73:Beautiful setting. Very close to Monsaraz. Breakfast delivered toour room. Terrace with table and chairs to eat outside. Goodrestaurant. Very quiet when we were there but facilities good. Good, attentive staff.

Review 74:There was a slight unpleasant odour in the bathroom. We opened the windows and tried to air it out but this was not really successful. Throughout the night we heard dogs barking. We do not know if they belonged to Horta da Moura. For dinner in the evening two of us ordered the Tasting Menu, understanding that the courses would be of "tasting" proportions". In fact each course was a full size meal and overall was too much food. This was unfortunate as we were unable to finish each dish which in themselves were excellent. We also felt that the wine options for the Tasting Menu could have been more interesting to complement the meal. We strongly resented that cigarette smoking was permitted in the dining room during the latter courses of our meal. When we enquired about the smoking we were told that it is permitted so long as the air conditioning is turned on. At breakfast the following morning the Museli container was empty and we were told that there was no more to be had. Rather than coffee in carafes which has been previously prepared, we would have liked freshly brewed coffee.

Review 75:We liked the rural setting, and the character of the buildings and the grounds. Our suite was charming and quite luxurious. The staff were helpful and friendly. We like to walk and in this respect we were rewarded with beautiful places to walk in the vicinity.

Review 76:The look of the restaurant

Review 77:Localizacao, near Mouraz and the lake

Review 78:The staff kindness and willingness to help and explain everything.

Review 79:Everything!

Review 80:The meal in the restaurant was exceptional and the chef deserved a Michelin star. Local food served in a contemporary fashion, so delicious.

Review 81:Noisy birds!

Review 82:Attention to environment, lovely setting, good breakfast with wide choice, plenty of bars and lounges to relax in,worth a visit

Review 83:Slight delay in restaurant

Review 84:waiting time in restaurant

Review 85:beautiful premises, spaceous rooms, cleanliness of rooms, friendly staff

Review 86:location

Review 87:Nothing to address

Review 88:The localization is excellent with lots of spots to visit. Great local history.

Review 89:The junior suites are fabulous. Excellent restaurant. Nice swimming pool with great view of the countryside.

Review 90:Peace and quite

Review 91:Breakfast could improve
