Reviews for Hotel Moniz Sol
Review 1:The mattress was a bit old. Breakfast was poor for a four-star hotel No WIFI in rooms. The entrance hall was the place to get connected.
Review 2:The swimming pool The location
Review 3:It was only possible to get the WiFi on the ground and first floors and we were on the 3rd. Not a huge problem for us but it might be for some people
Review 4:We had a huge room with two balconies both with a wonderful view of the sea and coastline. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 5:- no free parking - pool area not that clean and plastic around pool and jacuzzi with a greenish shine - tablecloths with holes and stains - room a bit worn down
Review 6:- nice location - good breakfast buffet
Review 7:The pillows! Too hard and flat.
Review 8:Staff efficient, friendly and helpful. Good Breakfast, buffet style . Hot and cold options. Evening meal, half board option, €20, was well cooked , nicely presented and tasty. Didn't use the leisure facilities so cannot comment. Best of all was the view from the window and balcony, sea and mountains! Beautiful sunrise witnessed..
Review 9:Too chlorinated water in the jacuzzi and swimming pool Small gym No free parking near the hotel
Review 10:Gym, Turkish bath, Zumba, ping pong Massage service Rich breakfast Very nice sea view Good location Professional and helpful staff
Review 11:1-Room balconies have no Sun at all, position of building facing north no possibilities of having Sun....but we have a beautiful view over north coast of Madeira(we can not have everyting....!!!!) 2-Menu and offer for HB very poor.....I had to go out for diner, when my pans was to stay at hotel......
Review 12:Most it was very good.....
Review 13:A better mattress would add comfort during the night. And beware: pillows are very, really very small!!
Review 14:Great view from most room. Ask to stay on 2nd-3rd floor, you'll be higher from street level... not that there is a lot of traffic... just for a better view. Nice common area with free hi-fi . Restaurant up to level with good food - which is not easy to find in Madera-- and nice and attentive service, all done by women. I'm a solo traveler and at restaurants I get a closer attention from waitress. During the nesting season (spring-summer), when it gets dark, you can see and hear tens of Shearwaters getting to their nest on the rock wall just behind the hotel. It's like being in a National Geographic documentary.
Review 15:Private Hotel parking is not available and all parking lots near the hotel are public and anyway available with additional payment per hour only .......
Review 16:Position, Breakfast, Facilities
Review 17:I don't think there is any words of what you dit like
Review 18:The booking I made was for my parents but when they return home they told me they enjoyed it very much

Review 21:wifi only at reception just small indoor pool
Review 22:extremely friendly and willing staff big rooms with nice view to the sea sauna for free
Review 23:pay for internet ,no free parking for customers
Review 24:location,view from the room,spa,breakfast
Review 25:Nothing
Review 26:Excellent location, very clean, nothing to dislike!
Review 27:Indoor pool was quite cold...
Review 28:Nice location and great value for money!
Review 29:Nothing.
Review 30:Awesome views. Great value. Breakfast was great. Staff very helpfull. Close to bus stop.
Review 31:The room with sea view. You can see the sun rising from your room!!!
Review 32:Wifi basically doesn't exist in this hotel even though they said is available in public area. There are so many hotel guests sitting in the lounge area trying to connect their mobile or ipad but nobody seems to be able to connect, even the hotel staff themselves. It is a major negative point.
Review 33:Great view from sea view room. Good facilities.
Review 34:We missed having a mini bar or fridge in our room.
Review 35:Fantastic ocean and mountain wiew, nice and friendly staff. Peaceful atmosphere, and great natural swimmingpool just outside the hotel.
Review 36:Late February, little was happening in town in evenings.
Review 37:Wonderful views from bedroom and dining room along coast. Comfortable hotel, spacious room, good choice for breakfast.
Review 38:Only public parking availible on street and charged every day from 11-19, but its ok
Review 39:Everything:amazing surrandings, location (next to the ocean), helpful staff, good breakfast and dinner also
Review 40:The seating design in the sauna made it harder to use than normal. Maybe it will be changed over the coming weeks, we did give the hotel this feedback.
Review 41:The friendliness and attitude of the staff was obvious. They wanted to help in any way. So nice that this is an independent hotel and not part of a chain. The breakfast was generous and the evening fixed menu was good, as was the a la carte.
Review 42:It's hard to read a book in bed, because reading lights are awkward.
Review 43:Hotel is in the best location in Porto Moniz. Even in "partial seaview" room morning views are spectacular.
Review 44:We had a room with a great view. The waves were impressive. Great place for a relaxing holiday. À car is advisable although driving in the mountains can be a challenge. Great starting place for lovely and quiet walks.
Review 45:This is a basic central hotel. We had a large room with a balcony and en-suite bathroom with lashings of hot water. The decor was typical of this stye of hotel, being dull and neutral. The rooms were very clean. We thought it was excellent value. The staff were friendly and the dining room offered a good menu which was well priced.
Review 46:The Hotel location ... although very scenic ,,, is on the north of the Island which was windy and cool. This is OK if you have a hire car as a 45 minute drive will get you to much warmer climes but no good if you rely on public transport
Review 47:The hotel is very comfortable and the staff were excellent and could not do enough for us ... Good breakfast and could use their computer for internet at any time.
Review 48:Nice hotel, not brand new but clean with good breakfast. Pillows were quite thin and a lot of naked people both in the pool and sauna :-) That surprised me a bit.
Review 49:Room stank of sewers.Had to ask for another room. They changed us . Second room had metal panels which clanged all night to wind.No sleep all night.Came to pay the bill and they would not accept amex. My B.com said they did.You should deal with this.Never again at this hotel.
Review 50:no internet in the rooms only at the reception, no electric kettle in the rooms
Review 51:The most amazing view from the window I have ever had from the hotel! Wonderful, helpful staff, delicoius breakfast with variety of food
Review 52:Hotel Moniz Sol was the place we enjoyed most during our holiday in Madeira. This quiet place is perfect for relaxing. Breakfast & dinner were of high quality. The hotel staff is extremely friendly.
Review 53:While breakfasts good, didnt like their fruit 'juices' which werent! Beds not the most comfortable especially pillows but slept ok.
Review 54:Room on third floor overlooking the sea, good for watching passing seabirds in the afternoon. Restaurant was also quite good.
Review 55:the hairdryer could have been better but that is the only fault I could find and certainly wouldn't put me off staying there again
Review 56:Clean, friendly and good food
Review 57:The prevailing winds from NE cause a bit of a draft.
Review 58:This hotel is fabulously located in walking distance of everything you would want to see in the samll town of Moniz. It is comfortable and the breakfasts were nice. Wonderfuly quiet place.
Review 59:Bed matresses were bit soft, a good coffee machine in the breakfast was missing.
Review 60:The staff was very kind and helpfull, the breakfast is very diversified and good quality with some regional jams. All rooms are provided with a balcony with an amazing landscape, restaurants, sea water swimming pools It is not a luxury facility but it is a modern building, has inside pool and jacuzzi. It is excellent for the price.
Review 61:Hard beds, smell of chlorine from the indoor pool
Review 62:Very good location, views of Madeira's north coast from the dining room and balcony. Good food, friendly staff, nice décor and good colours in the hotel. Small resort, quiet, near the sea, easy access to nature.
Review 63:Indoor pool was far too cold to swim in. Sauna only large enough for 2people, with a rather damp-smelling steam room.
Review 64:Comfortable & clean room with spectacular sea & mountain views.Friendly staff. Great views while sipping a pre-dinner cocktail. Verynice and delicious home-cooked food in the evening with a good selectionof Portuguese wines. Location was great. Nice breakfast selection.
Review 65:Brilliant location just in front of one of the natural swimming pools.Rooms with an ocean view, one of the best breakfasts we've had inMadeira and in principle in a hotel. Staff is friendly and very helpful.Price --- like almost everywhere in Madeira --- is very affordable.
Review 66:No robes or slippers in bath. Very poor quality coffee for breakfast and there was no opportunity to buy another one. No wi fi.
Review 67:Clean and tidy.Good location. Nice hotel but it isnt 4 stars. But good value for money.
Review 68:this was our second hotel on our individual tour through madeira island. location is very good, close to cafes, restaurants, market, aquarium, lava pools, that you could do everything by foot, nice sea view
Review 69:I was sad that the turkish bath wasn't working and the pool wasreally chilly. This was one of the main reasons we booked the hotel soit was disappointing. I was glad the sauna still worked! No tea andcoffee making facilities in the room.
Review 70:The desk staff were super friendly and helpful. Had a great hot stonemassage which was very easy to organise through the hotel.
Review 71:The swimming pool is a planning mistake: in a great hall a tiny part of the basin appropriate for swimming, even 2 columns were placed into the basin.
Review 72:The hotel is of modern design and in friendly colors, moreover, it is silent and best placed in Porto Moniz, having a good breakfast (meanwhile you see the northern coast line) and friendly personal.
Review 73:Pool area floor was strangely worn and overall spa setup was like a maze. Spa does it's job but wasn't the most relaxing experience.
Review 74:Excellent value for money. Very friendly staff and delicious breakfast. Nice view from the room/terrace.
Review 75:Although not a criticism of the hotel in any way, as others havementioned, Porto Moniz is very quiet and there is little reason to goout in the evenings.During out two days stay, there was a continuous fierce wind blowing from the North, which made us appreciate even more the relaxing and pleasant ambience of the hotel (to stay indoors!)
Review 76:Calm, quiet public areas with good colour scheme & decor generallyand plenty of space, as well as good views of the sea.Food in the restaurant and the breakfast were very good quality and the restaurant offered good value for money, as did the entire hotel. Staff were helpful and cheerful. Although we didn't have time to use them, the pool, sauna, Turkish bath etc all appeared to be available and working. Free, fast wireless internet in the public rooms (but not in bedrooms), and free use of an internet-connected PC was available near Reception. The bus from Funchal stops and leaves about 200 metres from the hotel.
Review 77:Friendly helpfull staff. good facilities with pool, spa and sauna. Food was best in town and reasonably priced. Room and hotel were spotlessly clean. Free internet in lobby
Review 78:The management seems to be not very sensitive to what a guest might need(E.G. more than just 1 shaded table available in the morning sun at anoutside table; or friendly communication in a crowded dining room) .Rather unpersonnal (and often absent) front desk. The limit was the -fortunately false- fire alarm in the midst of a night (2.30 pm?!), whenfor at least half an hour there was not any member of the staffpresent... And all of the guests guessing what happened, in the gardenand the lobby... You would not want to risk your life there again!
Review 79:Space everywhere. All right breakfast.
Review 80:a little bit old equipment, there wasn't possibility to make a tea or coffee in room, no minibar, beds are not comfortable
Review 81:location and nice view, good breakfest buffet, prices are reasonably
Review 82:An excellent hotel in a lovely part of Madeira. Close to lava pools for bathing-really good fun. Nice spa area for relaxing after walking on nearby levadas. Good quality breakfast. Easy free parking for car.
Review 83:Although on a real corner of the island, its a great place to start all kind of activities on the island because its on a ;crossing point; of some connecting roads. Also you can take a short walk in the evening and of course the great outdoor saltwater swimmingpool close by. The hotel itself is modern clean, good food and people are like everywhere so far really friendly
Review 84:Dinner at the restaurant was a disappointment: overcooked fish and vegetables. Try the restaurant at the other end of the bay, opposite the pools, the one above the tourist shops with the terrace on the first floor. They serve excellent and reasonably priced dishes. The hotel pool is inside and not very attractive. Much better to use the natural pools.
Review 85:Nice location in the North-West, close to the natural pools, good base for walks or car trips in that area. Good breakfast. One of the few hotels where they had fresh fruit. All rooms have balcony and seaview, but some are at the "lesser side" (not the front side) of the hotel and are less attractive.
Review 86:This hotel was excellent value for money. Th room was bright and spacious with a beautiful view of the bay. We ate in the restaurant where the service was friendly and efficient. The £15 menu was a little limited in choice and a little plain, but again, good value. The coffee was excellent! We stayed one night and it was a perfect location for strolling around te resort.
Review 87:In my opinion this hotel had the feeling of a 2 or 3 star rather than a 4 star hotel. For example, in my experience it is the first 4 star hotel in Spain or Portugal out of the 50 or so I've stayed in that did not have a minibar in the room. I found the bed and pillows uncomfortable. I left one day early, and when it came to check out I was told that the money had been taken from my account already because my stay was only 3 nights, which I felt was rude as there was no mention of this in the conditions on the booking.com website while booking or at check in.
Review 88:The room was very cheap.
Review 89:The hotel staff was very friendly and helfpful and it was excellent value for the price that we paid. It is also in a very good location with a nice sea view. We enjoyed the sauna and the steam room.
