Reviews for Midtown Hotel
Review 1:I felt really bad a family was yelling at the poor woman at the front desk one day. The mother was very rude to her and the daughter was blowing a hissy fit. Some people are really mean.
Review 2:Nice area. Too bad it was under construction. I've stayed here multiple times. Good price for that location. No complaints but I'm an easy person to please when it comes to traveling.
Review 3:Neighborhood isn't great and hotel was under construction. The property wasn't particularly nice and the parking fees were exorbitant at $29 per car per night (we had two cars). This is not a luxury hotel and has no business charging that price for parking. Also, there was a loud motor-type noise we could hear in our room that made it difficult to sleep.
Review 4:Staff was helpful. Room was clean.
Review 5:No breakfast option. Room facilities are a bit dated. Small desk area if you need to work. Refrigerator needed to be rented ($5 a day)
Review 6:Location was excellent. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Compared to alternatives nearby, the price was good.
Review 7:very shabby and dark hallways; stained carpet; interminable hallways; room was a bit shabby as well; bed was good; lots of street noise
Review 8:location was very good; staff was friendly
Review 9:They left the lights on in the room after cleaning it. AS I was there for a Climate Change Conference, I was especially concerned that they left the lights on all day, even when no one was there. The lights were on when I checked in.
Review 10:I really like that they made an attempt to be a Green hotel, by not automatically changing the sheets each day; however, they did NOT have an option to not wash the towels daily.
Review 11:Overall, I was not impressed with the building. It is not in the best condition. The rooms are not impressive, especially at the rate they are taking which is comparable to other higher class hotels in the region. One elevator for the entire hotel is not sufficient especially, if you need to go up a flight of stairs. The staff didn't know of a place to sit down for breakfast- even though there was a place a block away.
Review 12:Check in and check out were smooth. Rather close to the convention center
Review 13:I find it strange that I was charged the same amount as if two people had stayed in the same room. This could be double the rate that I should have been charged!!! The people in the front desk do not seem to follow up on things. The building needs some renovation.
Review 14:Good location and quiet area.
Review 15:my room number was not included in the signs. i had to go back to the desk to clarify directions.
Review 16:everything! clean, friendly, retro-feel, but recent. convenient walking distance to all my appointments. room availability within 24hours. off street parking. AAA discount.
Review 17:The location was excellent. There was the only option at the price range in center of town. Boston hotels are more expensive than most cities. The hotel needs a renovation. The hallways have a very old carpet. Bedrooms were fine, functional.
Review 18:INTERNET(wifi) sucks, bad, bad have To be ugraded for a better experience! Frontdesk/ Hotel can used a facelift...new design (Modern design)
Review 19:The location of the hotel..
Review 20:My room key failed every time I entered the room and the receptionist only changed it mu last night at the hotel, shich of course did not make any sense
Review 21:Location
Review 22:I paid $329 for this room which is too expensive for this hotel! There has no facility nor entertainment inside. The wifi is very weak, I could not connect at all.
Review 23:The room is big and clean.
Review 24:It was similar to a motel chain type (e.g. Quality Inn, etc) only better situated. Everything was very basic and in need of a facelift. Parking in the hotel is $29 per night.
Review 25:Chose the hotel for its location- in the Back Bay Area not too far from the centre and a pick-up point for the bus tours, on the trolley route and near the T. Reasonably priced by Boston standards, but not cheap. Room was clean and spacious. Bed were comfortable. Linen was ok and there were plenty of pillows and towels.
Review 26:See above - there are no ammenities - (although i was impressed with the beautiful potted flowers at the pool) but the ice machines are so far away from the rooms, you cant get s cup of coffee - the carpet is gross so i always wear shoes -
Review 27:I wish I could buy this property and turn it into the hotel of its potential... The lobby is so rin down and dirty - the carpet has the same stains visit after visit. I stay because of the location ti my Son & it is a good value for the money. Why dont you call me and let me manage your hotel ?
Review 28:Got a room where no WiFi signal is available, got another room after 1 night stay without WiFi. Second room, phone didn't work.
Review 29:Near Northeastern University where I have to be, near T-Symphony, near Prudential & Copley.
Review 30:Staff were helpful and flexible. Price was good for that part of town. Chose to stay here rather than at nearby venue hotel for a conference, which was far too expensive.
Review 31:The Midtown Hotel is very tired looking. In addition, we felt the housekeeping staff could use some training. We requested washcloths because ours had not been replaced, and the worker who came to our room had no idea what we were talking about. A printed copy of area restaurants would also have been nice.
Review 32:The Midtown Hotel is in an excellent location. The front-desk staff was most helpful when asked questions.
Review 33:The bed was huge but quite hard and pillows too high for me so I ended up using the small cushion as a pillow. It would also have been good to have a bar or social area to chill out.
Review 34:The location and staff were excellent and couldn't have been more helpful. They were very understanding and patient with all requests from residents. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
Review 35:It's very easy to lose oneself in the hotel. And it's very inconvenient for customers to carry heavy luggage to the elevator.
Review 36:The neighborhood is very quiet and there's a beautiful building in front of it. The blue line, orange line and green line are easy to reach. And the south station is just 15 minutes' walk. And it's very sweet of the staff to provide a list of TV channels.
Review 37:The staff was very accommodating and helpful. We had a few issues with our first room. The staff were quick to relocate us without any hassle. The new room was perfect. Boston is an expensive place to stay. This hotel offered lower prices and the location was perfect. Walking distance to Fenway, shopping, public transit, etc.
Review 38:A bit pricey especially without breakfast Rooms a bit dated - need upgrade
Review 39:Location was great. Just a few minutes from the T-station. Took a hop-on-off tour which had a pickup point a couple hundred meters away. Plenty of restaurants in Prudential Center - 5 minutes walk away. Friendly staff.
Review 40:Double rooms with normal double beds (not queen size, first time I see that in the US), so a bit too small for same family teenagers. But it was not said to be queen size, so... Fairly noisy (A/C roaring, doors), don't expect to sleep long in the morning. Bathroom door did not stay closed. A "motel" with pay parking : 29$ per night.
Review 41:The situation of the hotel, for the "Booking" price. The pool open from 9am to 8pm, with a lifeguard. Neet. Cable TV with Sports NBC for Live Tour de France, so all is perfect. (I'm not sure Christian Science Center is really a point of interest ?)
Review 42:We were late arriving for check in time and yet our room still wasn't ready and was not provided an ETA for when it would be. The staff seemed very overwelmed. There were multiple groups checking in and there clearly was not enough front desk staff. Alone with the fact that everything was done on paper which also slowed us down.
Review 43:The location would be great for a red sox game. They have a pool which is nice. They do have parking but you have to pay which is not great.
Review 44:maybe a bit noisy at times. no breakfast for that price ... ? so a bit pricey for a simple, very clean, but simple room. they have a pool so maybe you pay for that.
Review 45:location. minutes away from restaurants and bars. safe are. easy to reach from the airport even by public transportation. clean . staff very courteous.
Review 46:The property is run down. Wall paper was peeling in poorly furnished, small room. Worst part was bolt/lock was falling off. Halls at night were dimly lit and creepy feeling. I also had to carry my bags up a flight of stairs to get to the elevator. The prices were high.
Review 47:Free wi-fi. Great location. Pleasant staff.
Review 48:The air in our room didn't work . There was hair in the shower. The room smelled. It felt like I was going to fall through the shower floor. Only stayed for three nights, picked this location because it was one of the cheaper hotels in Boston. Next time we will not be staying here ! Would rather pay a few hundred more per night then stay at the midtown hotel! Staff was rude and not welcoming , always a line at the front desk.
Review 49:Absolutely nothing. Worst hotel experience I've ever had .
Review 50:We had a room in the back and it was very quiet. The beds were comfortable and we slept very well. All the staff were friendly and happy to assist us. We went to dinner and a play in the Back Bay and it was an easy walk to the hotel. This is a hidden gem.
Review 51:Parking in Boston can be a challenge, but not at the Midtown. I parked several hours before check-in time, and stayed several hours after check-out, for no additional fee. Easy access to the car at all times.
Review 52:Extremely old, "dorm-like" cement building. Paid a lot of money (almost $400) for one night and didn't get any frills.
Review 53:Room was large and very clean.
Review 54:The hotel is shabby and needs urgent renovation. The staff is really friendly and nice but not helpful. With 9° outside, the heating wasn't working and the room was freezing cold! I asked twice to do something, but nothing happened!
Review 55:location
Review 56:The hotel is shabby and needs updating, and the facilities need some improvement. For example the air conditioning didn't work so the room was too hot, and the shower blocked, so I ended up standing in water that wouldn't run away.
Review 57:It was a well located hotel, a stone's throw from all the Back Bay shops, and the Prudential Center and surrounding malls. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly.
Review 58:Got lost a few times trying to find the lobby
Review 59:The bed was comfortable. The Staff were helpful and friendly, and it was conveniently close to everything
Review 60:Wish they could offer at least a continental breakfast
Review 61:The best aspect of this hotel is it so convenient to the places I need to go to when I am in Boston. Also the underground onsite parking is a plus
Review 62:No WIFI. what hotel in the USA doesnt have WIFI? the hotel has noisey pipes. and i mean noisey.
Review 63:This hotel is situated in a great place and is easy to get to.
Review 64:walls thin; a bit noisy at times due to large groups of kids
Review 65:can walk to lots of restaurants I am grateful that I could find something affordable in Boston you don't need luxury when you are spending your day at a conference
Review 66:No breakfast provided. WiFi connection in room was inconsistent. Bit expensive considering it is a budget hotel
Review 67:Friendly helpful staff. Great location.
Review 68:The hotel needs renovation asap. The lobby is gross, as are the hallways. They need another elevator as there is only one and my elderly Mother nearly had a heart attack walking the distance to our room. There were things not working in the room and the Maid service didnt show up even when we returned after 5:30pm.
Review 69:I have stayed at the Midtown many times for the location parking and price. The staff is very friendly and tries hard to please although their hands are tied on many issues.
Review 70:I didn't like the room scenery ... It was to mardorning .. The bathroom is to small ... If I remember I think the toilet was outside the bathroom...
Review 71:I like how you can pay with cash unlike some other hotels...
Review 72:There aren't any fridges or microwaves, and when we asked the staff opened up their own closet with microwave, which was nice but it was a pretty creepy closet.
Review 73:I and four other college students stayed here to visit a friend in Boston, and it was great value for the money. I was worried that it would be grungy, but not at all and not only did we have two double beds but there was ample floor space. It was clean, large and there was plenty of light! I'd highly recommend it - it certainly exceeded expectations and the location is pretty excellent.
Review 74:WiFi is available but a bit slow. I wish there was a way to come and go from the parking lot without having to have ticket validated each time.
Review 75:Although an older hotel, it has a great location, convenient parking, big rooms and is very clean. A return visit for me and I'll be back again.
Review 76:The location was perfect. Only a few minute walk from the nearest shopping center, restaurants, and supermarket. The staff was super helpful and the rooms were warm and cozy.
Review 77:On the negative side...the room was old & run down and I was provided with a WIFI password but was unable to actually get WIFI on my devices. I didn't have the time to get this resolved so didn't approach anyone about it, but it sure would have nice to have. In 2015 I would expect WIFI & expect not to run someone down to make it work. Perhaps this could have been easily resolved but I don't know. I have no other complaints.
Review 78:If you're just looking for a bed for a night or two this hotel will be fine. Room was clean, bed was clean and comfortable and staff were very pleasant and helpful. Location was convenient; near BSO, NEU, restaurants and many other necessary businesses. Nightly rate was reasonable. Parking was convenient at the hotel for an additional fee of $25 per day.
Review 79:Dudes at the desk kept giving me dirty looks when i was walking back in with a girl, come on dude play it cool
Review 80:Giant bed, very comfortable, good shower, all seemed clean
Review 81:Areas of this hotel are still a little "tired" but they seem to be working at improving the rooms and facilities.
Review 82:We love the location of Midtown near the Northeastern University campus and places to eat and shop. The room we were in appeared to have been updated recently and was very nice and large. Also has easy parking at a reasonable price.
Review 83:Shower was kind of iffy. There was warm Water but the tub filled up with water when I took a shower. Wifi reception was only fair.
Review 84:Location was great . Right in the Downtown area in close proximity to lots of things. Very close to Prudential mall with lots of great shops and restaurant and food court where I had breakfast for 2 mornings. Overall a very good value.
Review 85:Although it must have been great when it was first built, the current building is quite run down and the walls are a bit thin. Bring ear plugs or white noise machine for a good night sleep.
Review 86:The excellent staff. The large, well lit, liveable room. The location: within walking distance, literally only blocks, to EVERYTHING related to the job while in Boston and to any leisure time activity afterward each day.
Review 87:you got to pay extra for leaving your car after 12pm!(parking fee for the hotel guest doesn't count 24h)
Review 88:very clean wi-fi was for free( on the site says paid wi-fi) close to the centre
Review 89:No elevator. Had to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get to room. No restaurant.
Review 90:Bed was very comfortable. Room was clean. Within easy walking distance of transportation and entertainment.
Review 91:$25 parking fee on top of your room fee. That was a suprise. First walk into room, there was a mildew type smell. On the edges of the ceiling in the bathroom, including the shower, there looked like mold.
Review 92:Location and staff were nice. Close to restaurants and the Prudential Building.
Review 93:There was no air conditioning so we had to keep the window open because it was a bit warm. Also there was no full length mirror in the room but it was okay because we dressed very casual.
Review 94:The location was great and the price was reasonable. The hotel was a little dated but very clean.it was perfect for a two day getaway.
Review 95:The fact that I had to go to the mall for breakfast
Review 96:I like the fact that the tv had a Christian channel. The location of the hotel. The staff helped out when I needed help.
Review 97:The service was terrible. The staff openly discussed cleanliness issues in front of us as well as greeting us poorly. The hotel is pretty relaxed with who enters and exits making it seem anyone can enter which is unsafe. The staff's mannerisms made the whole experience less pleasurable.
Review 98:I enjoyed the room and the cleanliness of it. It did not smell as fresh as expected, but was suitable for the pricing.
Review 99:Shuttle service does not pick up at airport.
Review 100:Good location. Possible to walk to Museum of Fine Arts and Freedom Trail attractions etc, but also conveniently close to subway station. One of the best value hotels in Boston, so as expected not luxurious, but clean, comfortable and secure. Large room (twin) and very comfortable beds. Good value shuttle from hotel to airport available.
Review 101:Room was a bit warm and AC was probably off for the season.
Review 102:Really liked the look and feel of this hotel. A 60's retro hotel that reminds of the Jetsons. A theme they should exploit rather than correct to be another generic hotel. Unusually big rooms, comfy beds and the lowest cost in the city. Past critical reviews are now out of date as carpets are new, internet is free and hallways are up to date. Staff is friendly and parking is very convenient. Our new preferred hotel of Boston.
Review 103:Bathroom door was so old it did not close properly, which was uncomfortable. Noisy neighbors late at night.
Review 104:Room was clean except for old stains on the carpet.
Review 105:Signage for ice machine could be improved. Toiletries, esecially soap, were minimal. Hot water was unexpectedly VERY hot very quicky. It is a mixed blessing. Wish you could include a breakfast...
Review 106:Amazingly quiet! Efficient staff and clean room. We arrived early and there was no problem with registration. Appreciated the Red Sox Nation complimentary parking! Looking forward to a return visit.
Review 107:Walls were a little thin. Could hear some noise from adjacent room. Would not deter me from staying there again however.
Review 108:Walking distance to attractions. Good location. Good value for your money. Would stay at Midtown on another visit to Boston.
Review 109:Maybe a little bit noisy in the bedrooms in the front side. Parking price (25 usd) but seems it is not expensive for Boston.
Review 110:The hotel is nearly a metro station, bedroom clean
Review 111:The staff's attitude at the reception not kind and not helping to understand the bill. A 50$ per night per person of extra charge at arriving (returned after check out).
Review 112:The carpet in the lobby and halls is pretty dirty and spotted. It does not reflect a clean hotel. I think its time to replace it. It would also be great if you had a lobby coffee service with real milk.
Review 113:We like the location and the pricing. I liked the bed also. The staff was wonderful and helpful. We love that you have a garage.
Review 114:Very strict about check in time. Our room wasn't ready until 4pm.
Review 115:It was affordable. Public parking. So if u have friends driving to, say Fenway, you can all park here for the same rate.
Review 116:Dated rooms and decor, inconvenient stairs and elevators that inhibit access to rooms, cramped bathrooms. Completely inaccessible for disabled travelers.
Review 117:Location near Prudential Center, value, friendly and helpful staff.
Review 118:$25 a day parking is a bit high , especially after all the weird taxes that already appear on the Bill.
Review 119:Location was great , staff was friendly & helpful. Room was clean and comfortable.
Review 120:terribly unfriendly staff -- we were there for four nights and the only friendly staff we encountered was an elderly gentleman who carried our baggage to our room on the first day, plus the cleaners receptionists and people in charge of city tours were terrible: not good-mornings, no hellos, not even a good-bye when we left!
Review 121:good room, nice pool, good location, decent price
Review 122:I liked everything.
Review 123:The teens liked the pool. It was quiet, clean, and the location was near stores in Back Bay. I recommended the hotel to other relatives and will return in the fall.
Review 124:The satilight receiption of the tv kept interupting what i was watching and they don't have cable.
Review 125:The quietness of the pkacw the staff was very friendl and the bed was so comfortable
Review 126:Very dated, not very clean, bit smelly, quite noisy. No breakfast facility in the hotel, though Thornton's is an amazing alternative (assuming you're not in a hurry).
Review 127:Good location.
Review 128:The room was tired, worn, the aircon dripped but good size
Review 129:This place is all about location and price. For the price we had a good location, everything within walking distance or subway.
Review 130:The bathroom was a little small and the fan seem to run all night.
Review 131:The location was great. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was pleased to receive free parking because we were going to the Red Sox game.
Review 132:I can't say we didn't like anything. We had an excellent stay.
Review 133:Everything was really well done. Staff was very helpful and the facility was very close to Fenway and other things we wanted to do. Also very close to the T and that made easy access to all of Boston. The only thing I would say is that the facilities were a little dated, BUT very clean and a great place to stay.
Review 134:They burn you on everything. $25 a day for parking, $25 a day for the internets, etc. And it's an old, one story hotel so if you get a lot of noise from neighboring rooms and people on the street walking past your windows.
Review 135:Great location. Clean, with a decent bed. Hard to find anything at that price downtown.
Review 136:Wifi surcharge. I don't mind paying a few bucks a day but you should be allowed however mang devices. 9.95 a day per device is a rip off Rooms were outdated as well as hotel lobby. Price for hotel per night is just as high as fully renovated places with free wifi and more amenities.
Review 137:The location was excellent. Parking was easy and reasonably priced. Staff @ front desk were very helpful and even gave us a second wifi password - It was only 1 per device. Pool facility was clean. Small - but in 30+ weather it was just what we needed! Room was spacious and extremely clean
Review 138:The only thing we didn't like about the hotel is that the bathroom fan was very loud and was always on when the light was on. We understand the need for the fan to remove humidity, but the noise was disturbing when one of us went to the bathroom at night (there is no outlet in the toilet area to have a night light). My advice would be to bring a flashlight to avoid the fan noise at night.
Review 139:The hotel was close to subway for trips downtown, also within walking distance to some great sites and shopping. Thornton's Diner is a 5 min walk and we ate breakfast there every day - good food, fast and good price. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, parking for $25.00 p/day at the hotel is good value.
Review 140:The bathroom were poorly cleaned after used if they were cleaned at all.
Review 141:Overall, a very good service compared to the cost.
Review 142:old furniture and appearance. AC very loud
