Reviews for Hotel Santos

Review 1:Very friendly and welcoming staff. The location is excellent for walking to the Cathedral and the old town square as well as the museum. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. There were several English television channels which was nice. The bathroom was well appointed and plenty of hot water for showers. An excellent value.

Review 2:No English spoken No minibar No iron in room

Review 3:Very friendly staff, although no English spoken. Large rooms with big bathroom Beautiful architecture, built into rockside, Great breakfast Location in centre of Old Town I had the highest room, in the highest building in the highest city in mainland Portugal

Review 4:Quality of room furnishings perhaps didn't quite match up to the stylish and innovative way in which this building had been converted. Still pretty good though!

Review 5:Funky place. Great staff. Excellent breakfast.

Review 6:We have no complaints except that we wish it hadn't rained. Even with that, Clara gave us umbrellas to use!

Review 7:We loved the owners Clara and Albert who did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. Street parking was easy, had an elevator, served one of our best breakfasts in Portugal; room was very comfortable and reasonably priced.

Review 8:Everything was really excellent.

Review 9:Unexpectedly modern and up to date interior, with innovative architecture to preserve historic location. The staff was also genuinely friendly and helpful. A pleasure to stay there.

Review 10:Can't fault anything.

Review 11:A wonderful experience from the moment we checked in to everything else afterwards. The staff were very helpful and even managed to get the rugby channel so we could watch the All Blacks! Excellent breakfast and the location, so close to the cathedral and old town made it very handy. An excellent bakery just nearby.

Review 12:Very hard to find, especially if driving and "free" parking is by luck rather than design...first come first served

Review 13:Unusual interior...almost funky meets old. Greeted my an "old dear" on reception that spoke only Portuguese, very pleasant and showed us to our room. Breakfast was buffet style in as much as you choose the cereal and yoghurt and then the old dear proceeds to fill your table with rolls, ham, cheese, toasted rolls...enough to feed 5000 never mind 2.

Review 14:We had rooms at the front of the hotel with no air con so had to leave the windows open which was then noisy.

Review 15:Fabulous location and very accommodating owners.

Review 16:The “on site” parking is public parking on the street. It was difficult to find a space when we arrived but were able to get one near the hotel later.

Review 17:Stayed for one night during a touring holiday. Excellent hotel with an architecturally brilliant design, combining modern with old. Good breakfast Excellent location for the old town sightseeing.

Review 18:the Air con was a portable one which left a pool of water on the floor...

Review 19:Very good, interesting building, very helpfull staff, Motorcycle friendly, wanted us to park our bikes on the patio.....

Review 20:As with ALL the beds in Portugal, way to firm.

Review 21:Everyone is super accommodating and friendly. I believe this is a family run hotel. Make sure you are hungry for breakfast because it's just like going to your grandmothers house, "You need to eat some more"

Review 22:Wi-Fi connection only worked in reception area. Parking could be an issue.

Review 23:Easy to walk to monuments in old section of town. Safe, clean, friendly, and interesting building built against old medieval town walls.

Review 24:Part old part new brilliant modern architecture good location Great service comfortable room Didn't have a hotel feel - more like a private dwelling

Review 25:First, the staff is outstanding. The married couple and their adult daughter went out of their way to be of service to us. Although the couple didn't speak any English (and we knew only a couple of words of Portuguese), the daughter knew a smattering of English and some French. We were able to communicate with the parents with a lot of sign language! The mother, who is older than my wife by at least 15 years, insisted on carrying her heavy suitcase to the room. She also gave us a quick tour of the hotel, which is unique because it actually incorporates part of an ancient Roman wall that encircled the city as part of the interior walls in the common areas. The mother and daughter prepare the excellent large breakfast; although there is no hot food, the breads, cheeses, meats, fruit, and juices were delicious and filling. As another example of the service ethic, when the mother noticed my wife preparing to buy a Coke from the vending machine, she waved her away from the machine and provided a free Coca-Cola. The hotel is beautiful inside with its incorporation of the Roman wall. The room was comfortable and a great value at $52, including breakfast. Nice bed, good bath with shower. The only drawback was the lack of WiFi service. Although we were able to "connect," we could never load any internet pages or services. I suspect this is due to the thickness of the Roman wall. All in all, we would most definitely stay at Hotel Santos again if we ever return to Guarda.

Review 26:The owner/landlady is a lovely person. The hotel is a mixture of old and new. The location is great- in the old city. breakfast is huge . there are many cosy places just to sit and rest.

Review 27:None what so ever!!

Review 28:Excellent location, comfortable accommodation and excellent customer service! Jorge gets a 5 star rating in customer service! He goes the extra mile and I have no hesitation in recommending his hotel! If in Lisbon again I will definitely stay at Casa Belmonte ! Thank you Jorge, you and your staff are super stars!! E

Review 29:Room far too cluttered with old fashioned furniture. Air conditioning was machine standing in window.

Review 30:Friendliness of owner, despite not speaking English.

Review 31:No airconditioning, the windows don't open, no electrical sockets available in room, tiny shower

Review 32:Location is central and . .The staff tries to be helpful - but has no minimal knowledge of English.g

Review 33:finding it by car was the usual old town winding streets maze, but that' s common to everywhere

Review 34:well appointed family run country hotel in an old town location, what's not to like

Review 35:There was a problem with the wi-fi during our stay and we couldn't have access to the internet. Although the staff told us they were trying to fix the problem, there was no solution.

Review 36:The location is very good, the staff is really friendly and the breakfast is huge! The room is comfortable.

Review 37:Loved the hotel..very old but done over in a very interesting way. The breakfast was outstanding withe lots of choices..staff very helpful and pleasant .

Review 38:While Guarda is is not a bustling tourist destination it is certainly worthwhile going there. It is the town with the highest elevation in mainland Portugal. The hotel is located in the historic district. It has been family operated for the past fifty years. Upon arrival we warmly greeted and helped with our luggage and car parking. Throughout our stay the family was very accommodating and made us most welcome. The hotel itself is a combination of modern rooms built incorporating the old city walls. The integrity of the old city walls has not been compromised and is complemented with the contrast of the modern hotel. We found a lovely restaurant within walking distance named Restaurante Churrasqueira PortoDo Sol where we warmly greeted and enjoyed the local cuisine.

Review 39:Wifi was a bit weak in places but a good signal could be found in some of the well furnished public areas.

Review 40:Reception went overboard to ensure our comfort, giving us a choice of rooms and personally showing us the features of the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for our kind and considerate hosts. The room and facilities were excellent - clean and comfortable. An extensive breakfast colters a wonderful stay at this establishment.

Review 41:Lovely refurbishment using the city wall and keeping it exposed at the back of the building. Quirky sitting areas in the public spaces Very filling breakfast

Review 42:Breakfast was poor, could have been richer

Review 43:Beautifulloy designed using the city wall as decoration. The staff was warm and helpful, good location close to the center

Review 44:The hotel is hard to find due to its location in the old town, and Guarda is even harder to find your way out of than in - but that isn't the fault of the hotel! The shower was a bit rickety, but the water was good and hot. The wifi dropped out in the morning but the owner was very apologetic.

Review 45:The hotel is a modern rebuild incorporating the old town wall and is unusual and stylish in design. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The room was comfortable and very quiet. The breakfast was excellent. All told, a surprisingly good place to stay and fantastic value for money.

Review 46:Without Siri we would not have found this place. Parking can be hard to find if one arrives during the work day.

Review 47:The staff was very helpful, especially since we arrived during a huge rainstorm. Big breakfast by Portuguese standards and finally, enough coffee. Easy access for walking in town.

Review 48:On the Booking.com website it said parking on-site - this is not the case, it is on street parking.

Review 49:The quirky style of the hotel; the comfort of the rooms; excellent breakfast; good position; value for money.

Review 50:we rented the room with 4 persons (the children in the extra bed) it was a little bit small, next time we book 2 rooms. The town looks a bit deserted, lots of empty houses

Review 51:The staff is very friendly and helpfull The breakfast is good the inside of the Hotel is ver nice there are nice places in the Hotel to sit, read or meet other travellors and have a drink The hotel is in the ancient center of the town with restaurants and nice places

Review 118:Most wonderful people,. They go out of their way to make their guests feel comfortable.

Review 119:Their credit-card machine went totally 'kaput' when I (and other people) checked out, but I do not expect this will happen to you!

Review 120:I stayed 3 nights. Great city-centre location, good on-site motorcycle parking, comfortable & well-equipped room, good breakfasts, helpful & professional staff. The hotel has no restaurant for other meals, but I ate well, twice, at 'Solar de Beira' restaurant, it's not far away.

Review 121:Nothing at all.

Review 122:I had a warm welcome and was escorted into a better room that the one previously intended for me, just because the owner thought it'd be nicer there - and it was! My room was very quiet and we even passed part of the old city walls (incorporated into the hotel walls) on our way there. The next day, I was provided with a nice map and they helped me with info and to call a taxi. It was Sunday and there were no cabs in sight - the staff were very friendly during my entire stay. Plus, the hotel is quite central, so you can walk to all the major attractions within the city.
