Reviews for Hotel Porto Mar

Review 1:We visited Matosinhos, the beach suburb of Porto in the off-season, so our experience may not be typical. However, we found this Hotel to be comfortable, delightful and a great bargain. We can't understand why Porto Mar Hotel isn't more highly rated.

Review 2:Breakfast

Review 3:Tired. Friendly staff. Suite in Portuguese translates as more beds in the room. Handy for local rustic fish restraunt , beggars and cat house. Nightly public brawling an added attraction

Review 4:Rooms are very small and everything is old: bathroom, forniture, tv, carpets... and our bed was tiny!

Review 5:Staff is helpfull and friendly. Breakfast is nice and rooms are clean.

Review 6:The second time we stayed here there were a strange smell in the room.

Review 7:Worth its price. Located close to the blue line of Porto's metro Rua Brito Capelo stop, so you're about 40 minutes away from Porto center. There's the sport bar with a very hospitable owner which is open from about 8 am to 3am (except Sundays) and a mini market the next door to the hotel which are the advantages.

Review 8:I had a room with continuous noise, could not sleep at all first night. The staff gave me another room for my remainder stay.

Review 9:Great location & friendly staff.

Review 10:The beds are short if you are used to modern size. A little old interior but in good shape.

Review 11:Just some small distance to beach area. The trams in the street are not a problem about noise.

Review 12:Not enough to do during the day but the beach and eating places not enough of a variety had to travel into porto

Review 13:It was near the beach and metro was very good

Review 14:Location was on main street with Tram. Noisy late and early so sleeping was a challenge. Hotel is a bit off the beach.

Review 15:Very helpful staff with great customer service. Thank you!

Review 16:breakast: the least you can imagine, or less. I said to the manager, there was no ham and cheese. The answer was, please wait the servant is preparing. When I got out "without breakfast", the servant was taking a coffee in a coffee shop near the hotel.

Review 17:The simpathy of the staff, with the exception of one person in the breakfast service.

Review 18:The staff at this hotel are superb. Nothing was too difficult for them to sort. Early breakfast requests, information and directions were always answered with a smile and positive response.

Review 19:Mattress was past its 'use-by-date'! Rooms could do with better tvs

Review 20:Location is great! Close proximity to the seafront, metro, shops and restaurants. Cleanliness. Breakfast. Helpful staffs.

Review 21:That more people should know about this place

Review 23:The staff and the lady owner were kind enough in providing all kinds of info, service to the customers, friendly etc I would certainly stay in this hotel next time. Also close to shops, hotels and transport

Review 24:No onsite parking although for 5 Euros there is 24 hour parking a few blocks away arranged via the hotel

Review 25:Receptionist spoke decent English which has been rare on our trip round Portugal. Breakfast included

Review 26:Nothing negative to say about it...thoroughly enjoyed every moments....

Review 27:Tranquility, calmness, people helpfulness and always at your disposal....rooms always spotless and near to everything....absolutely loved it....

Review 28:The hotel is quite old and the rooms we had were facing the internal roofs with some noise coming from other rooms. It seems people smoke inside the hotel. Breakfast was quite basic.

Review 29:The location. Easy to reach Porto by metro just in front of the hotel door.

Review 30:Internet doesn't work in rooms

Review 31:Staff was beyond being friendly. Very helpful in all aspects! Buying train tickets, ironing clothes, storage bags etc

Review 32:Lovely hotel, comfortable beds, good continental breakfast right on metro line.

Review 33:Great hitel

Review 34:Near tram stop, market, restaurants, coffees and beach

Review 35:No bad experiences! Everything was perfect!

Review 37:Good location and friendly staff. Cheap and cheerful about covers it.fine

Review 38:A bit far from centre (30/40 mins by metro). Old building, which is all right actually, but toilets need refurbishing.

Review 39:Good wi fi

Review 40:good room for the price with balcony

Review 41:Location is a bit out of the city centre, but not a big hurdle.

Review 42:Great hospitality. They did a lot of efforts to create an unforgettable stay for us.

Review 59:Staff was afraid to talk in english Bath didn't work and staff couldn't repair it Windows next to metro - trains every 30 minutes during the night

Review 60:It was close to ocean A lot of restaurants nearby Supermarket nearby

Review 61:The Bar The Dining Room The veiw from the rooms at the back of the Hotel

Review 62:The Staff The Breakfast The reception & stairway It was warm & Cosy The position - ideal for Shopping, Restaurantes and Beach.

Review 63:our room was at front of hotel, trams going by from very early until gone midnight. not easy to get to because no car access

Review 64:receptionists very helpful. very clean.

Review 65:The location is great - right in the centre of a working, everyday street filled with cafes and shops and a metro line running the entire length of it which means you can access the entire Porto network. (The tram lines also means you can easily find your way back to the hotel after you have walked to the terrific beach a few streets away and after you have eaten at one of the great fish restaurants that are down near the port area.) The hotel itself is traditional rather than modern. It is low rise and has a lovely sweeping staircase. We had a suite which gave us lots of room. Breakfast is on the light side but after eating in some of these local restaurants you would not want very much next morning anyway.

Review 66:If you have a problem with city noise (the tram passes by, just in front of the hotel) ask for a room that doesn't have front window

Review 67:Staff was friendly, room was spacious, hotel was clean. Internet works fine in specific areas but looses signal in other areas of the hotel. Inside the room, signal was poor, you could get it on laptop but not on mobile. Breakfast is a mix of different things so I guess you can say it satisfies various tastes.

Review 68:The area has nothing interesting to visit at at night, like a bar. Next time we would stay nearer the city.

Review 69:Extremely friendly staff who were helpful giving advice about places to see,, restaurants, etc. Good location for catching the Metro. Near to several very good restaurants and small fish restaurants.

Review 70:The interior of the hotel is outdated. At 5 in the morning the seagulls started screaming, don't know if that's year round??

Review 71:Staff was realy friendly. We had a suite, so enough space, and everything was very clean. Metro stop is a few minutes walking and brings you right to the centre of Porto in approximately 30 minutes..

Review 72:Good location, Matosinhos has many nice restaurants and a beautiful beach.

Review 73:very thin walls

Review 74:The ambient a little bit old

Review 75:Good staff and helpful

Review 76:They didnt have biciclos to rent

Review 77:Nothing in particular - it does what it says on the tin!

Review 78:Good location for my needs

Review 79:I'm not sure whether taxis are allowed down the street in busy periods as it is a tram line

Review 80:Good value and central location

Review 81:Nothing

Review 83:Nothing really

Review 84:Friendly staff

Review 85:cold water in the shower and the key of the bedroom dind`t work write

Review 87:Good design

Review 88:Very good value.
