Reviews for Kwa Maritane Lodge
Review 1:The game drives are excellent and great fun too. We had two different guides and they were both first class, with a fantastic depth of knowledge. Hats off to Emma who managed to manoeuvre that big truck into a prime position for us all to see the cheetahs drinking at the waterhole. It was a wonderful experience made even better by her fantastic sense of humour and knowledge. We absolutely loved our stay at Kwa Maritane and have no hesitation in recommending it.
Review 2:Food I think needs much improvement especially considering the price you pay. Buffet needs refreshing more regularly and breakfasts not very appetising.
Review 3:Location location location!
Review 4:The fact that I could not afford to bring my son as you were charging double rates for sharing a room with him.
Review 5:The game drives that were included in the rate.
Review 6:Nothing we enjoyed every minute
Review 7:Location facilities and staff was first class. The game drive staff where outstanding and we enjoyed our relaxing time with the spar staff also.
Review 8:The pool table andTable tennis game needs more space, the current space is not enough/friendly.
Review 9:The serene natural environment, proximity to wildlife and service oriented helpful staff.
Review 10:No water during my stay and no option proposed (not even a 'bucket option'). For a lodge of this standard it is just unacceptable. Saw water trucks while leaving the place. Pitty because otherwise the place is very good.
Review 11:The Hide is great.
Review 12:My husband and I had a fantastic stay.Anita mad us feel so welcome. Thanks Anita! We seen lot's of animals, food and wine was so good. The beds where very comfortable, for me it was a once in a lifetime experience.
Review 13:Room 85, the shower taps impossible to control.
Review 14:Knowledgeable game ranger, FANTASTIC bush braai - a must for everyone and very fair prices. Staff extremely friendly and professional and excellent facilities!! Will definitely return. Incredible improvement in standards and service since our last visit.
Review 15:we loved the game drives and were lucky to see a lioness hunting which was exciting and magical. We loved our rooms. We loved the proximity to the animals. The breakfasts were great and the staff were helpful
Review 16:Beds were a bit on the firm side and had to purchase extra wifi, which I didn't mind but the extra didn't seem good value for money.
Review 17:Staff were very attentive and food was excellent.
Review 18:The male game drivers think it's very funny to bully the female gamedrivers. They did this by driving past at very high speed just as weleft the Lodge. Except they collided with our game truck, smashing thewing mirror off and more. Could have made us crash off the road. Yesvery funny isn't chaps - until you kill your customers. Thisbullying has been going on for years - but management turn a blind eye.Pathetic & dangerous
Review 19:Relaxing location with friendly staff
Review 20:Was unhappy that I was told at reception that I was booked on the 4pm game drive which left at 3pm, so I missed out. I was definitely told 4pm and watched the woman at reception write it all down, telling me I could check in at 3.30 and then go on their game drive?
Review 21:Great location overlooking Pilanesberg National Park. Lovely rooms and gardens with "live" feed on your room tv to the waterhole hide. Nice food and enormous choice at the breakfast and dinner buffet with friendly staff.
Review 22:I saw a significant over use of water on the grounds of the lodge. I reported it to the front desk and I hope they take action. For a water-scarce area they should pay more attention to this matter.
Review 23:The food was excellent. The property was well maintained. Rooms were very well designed and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and attentive
Review 24:Bed was bit small Game drives are fantastic, saw 4/5 of big 5 manytimes and most tour guides are great, female guide called Emma I thinkdidn't seem as enthusiastic as the other guys we had, I also thinkthere should be certain drives for families with young kids or agerestriction as 2/4 drives we had, had kids under 4 or 5 making a lotof noise not great when trying to see wild animals up close. Apart fromthis a once in lifetime experience for me and my wife highly recommendthis lodge.
Review 25:Breakfast was best we had in sa magical moments like ellephant drinkingfrom watering hole 2 metres from restaurant unbelievable
Review 26:Poor bar service, substandard carvery dinner, game ranger on game drive forgot his keys and we had to wait for someone to come and open gate so we could get back to hotel.
Review 27:Quiet room, game hide, elephants drinking at the waterhole at restaurant
Review 28:The price per night ALL the Staff Quality of room / lodge Poor Value for money. For that price I could of Stayed at a 5Star hotel down the road.
Review 29:The location Food was great
Review 30:The Staff are too relaxed and couldn't speak English properly, if there could be waiters at the pool areas, I would rate Kwa Maritane as a 5 star lodge instead of 4 star.
Review 31:The Food was lovely, well catered. Kwa Maritane is a kid friendly zone.
Review 32:When booking, I requested a room close to the main building, owing to mobility issues. Despite changing our room after checking in, this seemed to be impossible. Compared to other places of equivalent comfort we stayed on our SA visit, this was by far the most expensive accommodation we experienced.
Review 33:We spent the first two nights of our stay in South Africa here. Lovely to experience the sights and sounds of Africa again.
Review 34:There was nothing that we disliked really. I would have to nit- pick to think of something.
Review 35:The grounds are well-kept and the pools and play areas are clean and inviting. We ate well at the restaurant and enjoyed sitting by the pool with a drink. The waterhole enabled us to enjoy watching elephant, buck and baboons from the restaurant terrace. The buffet meals suited us perfectly and we were all catered for. We particularly liked the thatched roof in the upstairs room. The rooms were spacious and comfortable.
Review 36:Aircon stopped working at about 10 o 'clock at night in room 163 The breakfast standards have slipped a bit and the waiters at breakfast were a bit grumpy- but not a major complaint!
Review 37:Elephants having a drink while we were having breakfast
Review 38:I have been to all around in Sun City but Kwamaritane is the best ever. I would like to bring it to your attention that Bernice and her team are the best ihave ever seen.
Review 39:Expensive for what you get. Very poor value for money. Seems as though they just want to rip tourists off. Staff never understand what is being asked. They are friendly, but just don't comprehend. When we requested a baby sleeper they told us we didn't request it... They told us we could have an earlier check-in because of the baby. This didn't happen. Food was very average Bathroom floors were sticky (Dirty!) Bar fridge was broken inside
Review 40:The area is beautiful Staff friendly
Review 41:We booked 2 rooms and requested 2 beds for one of them but only got one double bed. Room was quite a long way from reception/restaurant but was quiet given there were lots of families. Buffet average. Game drives are to the same place every day. We got drenched on New Years Eve going back to our rooms because its not undercover.
Review 42:The rooms are very pleasant with nice outlooks. It's a a 3.5 star lodge in the lovely Pilansberg National Park. The staff are very friendly. Wifi was excellent. We stayed in the hotel not the timeshare. Being able to do your own drives through the park at your own leisure. Pilansberg Centre is a must to visit for extra special animal viewing
Review 43:Service Comfort Wi fi room was to small and far from the car parking, we paid 4.000, zar, plus minus 400 usd, which is too much for the small and tiny room and facilities, we were expecting much more. its the last time we go to this hotel.
Review 44:Swimming pool Breakfast
Review 45:Food quality is a little poor and limited, gets a little tiring after a few days. Game drive is open to all with no age restrictions yet the ranger complained about the children talking and making a noise.
Review 46:Venue and location great. Facilities were good, nice variety for all ages. Rooms were great and well equipped. Views excellent. Staff were friendly.
Review 47:Service very poor especially in restaurant. Had to ask to be served. Tables not set neatly. Staff not very professional. So much potential...just a pity the staff is not doing its part...all comes down to management
Review 48:Location very good. The premises very good.
Review 49:Check in staff were disorganized and unfocussed even though we checked in at the time they are indicate one can do so. Our designated rooms were near the children's pool so there was some noise that filtered through to our room.
Review 50:The rooms are tastefully decorated with an African theme, beds are extremely comfortable. Game ranger, Jacques was exceptionally accommodating and knowledgeable with a sincere love of his work.
Review 51:The service is not very good. The waitresses in the restaurant do struggle to get simple orders right. Didn't find the head chef friendly though I greeted him. The lights did not work for a whole night in my room, and was not fixed by the time I checked out. I still had a good holiday because I enjoyed the area and the game drives- they have some excellent and knowledgeable rangers. So overall I was happy. But it's more a 3 star than a 4 star institution.
Review 52:It is a great location. The 'Hide' which is a tunnel from the hotel to a watering hole is a fantastic way to see the wild animals drinking. We saw a herd of elephants that way.
Review 53:We booked a game drive on the Friday for the Saturday afternoon, but when we got there to go on the game drive we weren't on the list! There were no other opportunities for to go on a game drive, and when we complained, no one was willing to assist us!
Review 54:1- room full of spider (small and big) 2-alot of flying insects and other noisy bugs 3-pool was dirty 4-reception people can hardly speak English 5- check in and getting from car inside was not organized at all 6- food should be covered to avoid eating fly's with it
Review 55:location
Review 56:Hotel Rooms in need of some refurbishment. No mini-bar available. Just small empty fridge. TV reception appalling. Had power issues on last morning so only half plugs etc working including TV and kettle. No apology at reception while checking out. Also no wifi the day before or apology!! Probably wont return cos at R2225 per person per night a bit too pricey for what it is. But am sure ok for tourists in need of a quick bush-experience.
Review 57:Inclusive Buffet Breakfasts and Dinners really acceptable. Some staff were very pleasant but others quite surly. Was surprised by the one game drive per day inclusive in room rate. Could be nice for some (but very big vehicle with 20 odd people on board) But we go to Pilanesberg to drive ourselves around.
Review 58:The gamedrive in the morning starts at 08:00 hrs, takes 3-4 hrs. You have to check out at 11.00hrs. not so handy. Late check out is possible. When I came back, room was already cleaned. Also took lunch in the restaurant. The food is the same as dinner.
Review 59:Very nice lodge. Good diner and breakfast, both in buffet form. One game drive included (afternoon or morning).
Review 60:Even though the room had all we needed, we found the style rather "old", and would have appreciated a more modern ambiance. But this is just a subjective opinion!
Review 61:Location was good, inside the Pilanesberg Park. Very good viewpoints to see animals around. First thing we saw was an elephant in the waterhole next to the lodge! Staff was rather friendly and the room was well equipped and clean. They offer a good choice of activities.
Review 62:Very expensive

Review 114:small and friendly, clean and inexpensive, the bush braii
Review 115:Personal: Staff was unmotivated, not very friendful and not helpful. Just to tired? Most of the staff seemed so depressed. Food/Restaurant: It's half board, Breakfast was ok, Dinner (buffet as well): cold and not tasty at all. During breakfast we've been asked 6 times: What's your room number? They just ask again and again but nobody makes a note. At Dinner no table was available, someboy told us, we can wait in the bar next door and if a tabel is free somebody picks us up. We waited 40 Minutes but nothing happend. And it's a big restaurant with so many tables! We asked again and after getting angry we finally get a tabel. While waiting at the bar next door we saw many people walking so it's just luck to get a tabel. Nobody makes a list or something and the bar was full of people waiting but nobody shows up in 40 minutes to pick somebody up. It just so unorganised! Later we talked to a guy who is working in the bar. He told us he is working since 6am ... we left the bar after 11pm .... and the guy was still working! The management should organize the work in the restaurant. What's so hard about note a room number at the entrance or making a list of waiting people? WLAN: Doesn't work, maybe Password was wrong, but I was to lazy to ask.
Review 116:Rooms/Hotel: Nice Lodge with many rooms so it's quite a huge complex, room was clean, shower a bit old, water pressure low. The game drive with Mary-Jane was excellent!
Review 117:Dissapointed.The rooms are faultless. Staff short on training. Food too similar if there longer than two nights. (Too many badly behaved kids.) Will now gladly pay slightly more to stay in the more upmarket lodges. At least you get what you pay for.
Review 118:No ash trays on the room balcony, Staff were a bit unfriendly at first
Review 119:The view from the room's balcony, The food was marvellous, The nature view from the restaurant, The Bush dinner
Review 120:Could not connect to Wi-Fi, logged the issue but was not resolved
Review 121:Game drive was brilliant, facilities excellent and the food was great. The bed was super comfortable, the bedroom was nice and cozy and my son who is 8 years old rated this as one of the best holidays he has had to date and he has been to London, Paris, Barcelona, Istanbul and Orlando.
Review 122:Wifi very slow and unreliable
Review 123:Friendly and relaxed staff Quiet place, much better than Sun City Food was excellent ! Great to see the animals during breakfast
Review 124:Our room was too far from the lobby and restaurant No Wi Fi in the room!
Review 125:The location was excellent right in the middle of Pilansberg national park. The dinner especially the barbecue made in front of the guests was very delicious.
Review 126:Staff slow and unresponsive to enquiries, but had a pleasant demeanour whilst carrying out their work.
Review 127:Position close to the reserve, comfortable clean room.
Review 128:wifi not working during the time we were there. It was switched off before we left and hence could not check emails etc on day we booked out
Review 129:Location, honesty and integrity of the staff, meals
