Reviews for Thande Beach Hotel - Ngapali
Review 1:The food was good but 5 times the price of the beach cafes that were only 50 meters away
Review 2:The location was excellent and the room was the best beach front room we have ever had anywhere in the world
Review 3:The cheapest rooms are in 2 blocks right near the entrance driveway and main road. Wasn't too noisy but still traffic noises (including trucks) in the mornings
Review 4:Best stretch of beach at Ngapali. Staff always friendly and willing to help. Breakfast buffet was awesome. Beautiful green setting. On arrival, towels made into dinosaurs: enough said!
Review 5:Pls change pillows. We had standard room that was bit outdated - but ok. Poor internet connection in the room.
Review 6:Excellent location and very helpful and nice staff!
Review 7:As the area continued to develop, I think that Thande Beach Resort will need to upgrade (a bit) the rooms to compete. Our room had some quirks (like a balcony door that did not hut properly) and I think that paying attention to some of those things would be good. :-) That said, it's a balance because you don't want to lose the value for money aspect!
Review 8:The beach is incredible. Seriously - so beautiful and unspoiled. Love the beach set up - and that there are more beds on the boardwalk area for those who might just want to read. Having visited and walked by some other resorts in the area I think Thande had the best beachside set up! Great value for money - at least in our opinion. The drinks and such were reasonably priced, and I like that the resort had a variety of customers (Burmese, foreigners) and wasn't just international travelers. That was nice to see. The staff on the beach were very attentive to what was going on and we noticed them point our safety concerns (the rocks) to swimmers which was good. Other staff were also good and super nice.
Review 9:Very caring staff who even waved us goodbye at departure and arranged luggage drop off and immigration at the airport. Free airport transfer. 2 times a day room service. Great breakfast at beach front restaurant. Perfect location.
Review 10:Poor wifi (as expected). Our room had no view at all. The view was obstructed by trees and all we could see was the security guard across the street. But anyway we spent all our time outside on the beach so that did not matter.
Review 11:Next to the beach. Great breakfast. Good staff. Nice retro shuttle bus (cf picture). Amazing beach but not crowded at all. Great hotel restaurant, and also nice low-price restaurants on the beach. Great sun benches. Great breakfast on the terrace outside, next to the beach. We had to cancel one night because the plane company had messed up our reservation, and the hotel accepted to refund half of our reservation even though the policy at the time of booking was zero refund.
Review 12:fantastic hotel!! super-friendly and professional staff. great location on the beach. close to the beach shack restaurants. free pick-up and drop-off at the airport. all in all, highly recommended.
Review 13:The cost of the beachfront bungalows!!! Internet in reception area only and poor often useless connection.
Review 14:Our spacious beachfront bungalow, the breakfast location and staff, the clean beach, the clear sea, the group of cheap and friendly restaurants on the beach less than 5 mins walk away. The vibe of Ngapali, relaxed and not exploited!
Review 15:The wifi! They only have wifi in the lobby, fine, but you have to log in everytime, very annoying. (Yes, it is a minor problem, but anyway. :) )
Review 16:Lovely resort, nice rooms with history in its walls.
Review 17:Wifi was slow everywhere (room, reception etc.) There was a problem with payment by visa card on check out (probably it's the same "internet problem"). We didn't like our room with the garden view at all - small, dark, the bed rather uncomfortable. Guess it's the cheapest option at the hotel, but still we believe the room could have been designed much better.
Review 18:Locatiion is fine:no rocks, no fisherman boats, a few local restaurants and massage facilities nearby. We walked all the beach and found out that even more expensive hotels had worse location. The hotel itself is very nice, including the garden and seaside restaurant. Staff was always very friendly and helpful (maybe sometimes even TOO helpful)
Review 19:The lunch/dinner was too expensive in the hotel. Better go to some really nice restaurants in the beach. They can't exchange money in the hotel, the staff needs to go to the airport ( which is only once per day ) to exchange your money.
Review 20:Everything was great. The hotel may be a bit expensive but you won't find better for a cheaper price. The breakfast was amazing and the location as well. Everything was made for us to have everything we need.
Review 21:Not a thing ? - not a place for children who want to be entertained unless they are happy on the beach or in the pool as its more of a chill out place to read a book or listen to your music.
Review 22:Everything? The customer service is second to none with friendly, helpful staff at all times. The place is immaculate and it's the little things like having your curtains drawn and bed turned back on an evening?. The food is fab and we loved the cocktails - we couldn't believe the prices ? The sea is so warm and the view of the bay from the dining/bar area is magical? And it's a few steps onto the empty beach and comfortable beds with umbrellas - can't wait to return ?
Review 23:Food and drink were too dear, lot of the sun beds used toget reserved by just putting a towel on thge chairs and don't actually sit on them all day, wifi was only available on lobby!
Review 24:Fab location, friendly staff, nice breakfast.
Review 25:We were initially disappointed when we first saw the room. We stayed in the 'cheap' room at the back of the grounds close to the road. The room was very dark and this put me off. The room had a small sitting area outside but it wasn't very appealing and we didn't use it. The room looked better at night when the lights seemed to be brighter than during the day and the room was quite nice. You can hear the traffic from the road especially all the annoying beeping. We didn't use the restaurant or spa.
Review 26:Lovely grounds, good breakfast. The beach is nice and lots of restaurants very close to the hotel (during the main season) right on the beach.
Review 27:Restaurant food could have been better especially as there is a lot of good food along the beach, breakfast, however was very nice.
Review 28:Nice quiet spot, great beach, very friendly, responsive staff. No motorcycles on the beach, good swimming beach.
Review 29:No bad experiences at all.
Review 30:Location was great, right in the middle of the beach and close to all the local restaurants. Housekeeping were fantastic, coming in every evening to turn over my sheets and prepare my room for night time. Breakfast was excellent with a range of local and western food. Staff were helpful and polite and always smiling, like everywhere in Myanmar
Review 31:The beds were pretty hard, but that is standard for Myanmar. We were there during the first week of the tourist season opening up (Oct 12 - 17).and our bathroom had a slight mouldy smell to it at first. It dissipated over a couple of days with the bathroom fan on and with the monsoons ending on our first day there.
Review 32:Beautiful Hotel, lovely grounds, fabulous staff, always smiling. Our room was very spacious and very clean. Loved the fact that we were in the middle of the 2 mile stretch of beach. We had a bank of mature trees along the waterfront that provided some shade mid day and added to the stunning views. Breakfast was served every morning overlooking our beach and the Bay of Bengal. Delicious and so many choices. We would love to come back. Great value.
Review 33:Bed the first night was hard as a rock..and room a little worn and musty. We paid $55 extra per night to upgrade to a better room for the remainder of our stay and were so glad that we did!
Review 34:Excellent location in middle of ngapali beach. A short walk to lots of dining options. Excellent staff. We weren't able to carry somethings that we purchased on the plane. Thande Beach's driver took the package from the airport, labeled it and had it sent to us in Yangon via bus. It arrived at the bus station early the next morning in perfect condition.
Review 35:Almost every single aspect is to praise, except that we stayed in one of the "cheaper" suites on the back of the resort, and that did come at a price. To begin with, we had to change room 3 or 4 times because they all smelled of mold, as if they had been shut down due to the rainy season. We ended up staying right next to the main road, so there was constant noise throughout the day. Also, the mattress was way too hard, and breakfast rather unattractive.
Review 36:Staff were very helpful, good taste of the facilities, access to the beach.
Review 37:Very nice Hotel, Staff could not have been more friendly! Location is excellent (near lovely beach restaurants). We had (without knowing) an airport pickup and the best welcome drink :)
Review 38:Nothing.
Review 39:We loved everything. We were so amaized by everything. We have never experienced such a wonderful service from reachong the airport until leaving. It was just amazing.
Review 40:The hotel is very well located, near a bunch of restaurants on the beach where you can et fresh fish and watch the sunset. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Wifi works fine. And if you don't like to swim in the sea, the pool is wonderful and almost always empty.
Review 41:It was really a very nice hotel. If anything, some more hooks in the bathroom could do. If you pay with credit card, an extra fee of 3% is added to your bill.
Review 42:Extremely friendly staff, spacious rooms, nicely furnished. Good massage in the spa, especially the foot-massage. Extensive choice for breakfast in good location. Many comfortable small extra features that make life more pleasant :-) Free airport shuttle
Review 43:Nothing to dislike
Review 44:I loved the position on the bech and the can do attitudevofvth staff. They are attentive without being suffocating. Thevpositionnon the beach is wonderful and how many beaches innthevworld can you walk safely day or night ?
Review 45:The beds are too hard, and it was difficult to get softer madrases (because they did not have such). The price on food was almost twice as high at the hotel compared to the restaurants placed 100 m away on the beach. Outside tourist area it was dirty... People in general had low english language skills.
Review 46:Close to the beach, beautiful view from the living, extremely nice staff, many nice restaurants on beach, clean area in tourist area. People where very nice.
Review 47:No complaints
Review 48:Beautiful hotel in lovely gardens with high standard of service Location was perfect - short walk to wonderful restaurants on the beach Rooms were spacious and comfortable - we had one that backed on to the road and had no complaints - traffic noise was minimal and did not disturb us
Review 49:The staff at reception were not very helpful or friendly- the gardeners etc were all lovely and cheery. However we were allowed a late check out with no fuss, so appreciated that.
Review 50:Beautiful greenery around the hotel complex, the room was big and well maintained, and we really enjoyed our stay.
Review 51:I would have liked a fitness centre
Review 52:Pleasantness and helpfulness of staff are always advantageous; this and the cheap cocktails watching the sunset before a beach bbq make the hotel an excellent choice
Review 53:Wi-fi, we can only log in the lobby, but not in the room! You must choose a room from number 1000 to 2000. The room begin from 3000 are in a building near the road, and they're noisy! I made the mistake. Then price are a little bit expensive for this quality.
Review 54:The localisation is realy close from the beach.
Review 55:Although clearly indicated on Booking.com we found the room we booked to be utterly noisy. The block of "cheap rooms" (still $100+) are really 1m from the main road that connects north and south Ngpali and traffic starts early as the area is one big construction site. Staff offered us a new room after two nights. That was kind and helped a bit. rooms 1012,1013 and the same in the other blocks are watch outs. Wifi was not working outside reception area but in all honesty. It's Myanmar, so every decent connection is fine. Prices in the hotel are quite high as mostly in these kind of resorts. 150% on top of normal prices I found a little bit extreme though.. Best go to the local shops further up the beach. Also great food!
Review 56:Staff really deserves a lot of thanks as they did what they could in making sure we made it to our connecting flight in Yangon. Numerous phone calls to airlines and the on site help of the hotel rep at Ngpali Airport really made the difference! I can safely say I never has such friendly and helpful staff before.
Review 57:The only possible negative might be the attitude of some of the other guests.
Review 58:Huge room. Beautiful setting. Right in the middle of an amazing beach - And good value for Ngapali. But the staff are the main reason why this hotel is so well liked.
Review 59:The loungers could get a little crowded when some unscrupulous holiday-goers would 'reserve' seats for a whole day, leaving a towel there and disappearing. But that's in the nature of the guests, not the resort. We originally had two single-beds pushed together to form a double, but when we complained we were moved to another room with a proper double bed, so this wasn't a problem. There was always a lot of work going on, maintaining the foliage and watering the plants and paths and whatnot - I suppose it's necessary to keep up appearances, but it made moving through the resort constantly busy.
Review 60:I've read that Thande Beach is at the lower end of the up-market Ngapali resort spectrum, certainly in terms of price - but our experience there was excellent. It's in a perfect location midway up the beach, with a large selection of loungers on the beachfront, with all the amenities you could ask for. The breakfast was an excellent buffet, and the staff were very accommodating; visiting on our honeymoon, they first prepared an incredible heart/flowers spread on the bed, and later brought us a cake. Checking in and out was very smooth - they took care of us from the moment we arrived at the airport, through to checking out for our flight away (though I gather a number of resorts do this!).
Review 61:poor wifi. room quality was mediocre. room location was on the road and a bit noisy in mornings. staff was nice but slow in responding or forgetting for example to deliver the suitcase upon arrival. if you want clean towels each day you have to ask for them or they will re-fold your used ones.
Review 62:the beach front and beach set up are wonderful. for the cost the hotel is very good, but internet was very slow and mostly not functional in the actual room. also have to keep relogging in as the signals drops. electricity went off 2-3 times a day but only shortly. the room itself was very bare bones. i had a standard. i would recommend booking higher quality rooms. standards are in the very back of the complex and along the road which gets noisy at 6am as they start working.
Review 63:The staff are very friendly, serviceminded and efficiant. They made the stay! The lovation is also perfekt, and huge lovely room, we had a perfekt stay. Thank you thande beach!
Review 64:wifi is poor and the beds on the beach are early in the morning already taken.
Review 65:Nice location, the food in the restaurant of the hotel is very good, try the duck! delicious and not expensive. Also the breakfast buffet is very good.
Review 66:Early in the morning, young workers come and clean in the garden, sweeping and talking loud start from 7.
Review 67:We booked for partial sea view villa room 2006,not far from sea, nice bed, large room and we're happy with that. Breakfast is the best ,many variety food. For me I have my traditional Burmese cakes everyday. We eat our dinner at the hotel everyday during our visit. We stay at Pagan Thande Hotel too, every time we go back to visit Myanmar.
Review 68:The staff are not the friendliest; the 4000-5000 room series are dark, smelly and noisy; service is not up-to-par with international standards
Review 69:Ngapali beach is really nice and this property is right in the middle of it
Review 70:Wifi did not really work, but I had a local SIM card, so I did not rely on it.
Review 71:Nice place for lazy beach holidays. Breakfast was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Many beach restaurants nearby.
Review 72:The whole WiFi arrangement was dire - passwords needed entering each time I moved out of a spot - bedroom wifi was rubbish and 3 days later, it still wasn't fixed. Bus to meet my flight wasn't there when we landed (on time) - I had to take a cab. $8.00 no big deal.
Review 73:The site is very well designed and maintained. The location is great. The staff are excellent.
Review 74:The bed, although a good size, was much too hard and meant sleeping was uncomfortable.
Review 75:Gorgeous beach, delux accomodation had great space, beautiful decoration and attractive seating area. Pretty gardens. Staff were very polite and friendly.
Review 76:All Bungalows do have seafront views but not all of them are equals...Indeed, there are 2 rows of bungalows with some farther away from the beach.
Review 77:Service is impeccable. Staff took care of the modification of our plane tickets with the flight company - without charge - even though it is clearly not their job.
Review 78:Info on amenities (where to find bikes?, maps of Ngapali beach?) and spa very sparse (only prices) in reception and none whatsoever in the room. One evening there was a horrible kareoke and the false singing was heard in all the open areas. Wifi in room was very unreliable.
Review 79:Staff were excellent and attentive, incl masseuse, very good Western breakfast (Asian looked good too), beautiful green location and excellently situated, ie mid-beach, and close to the much simpler and cheaper on-the-beach rstos. Lovely pool as well! Pick-up from airport was efficient.
Review 80:This hotel and its staff really take care of you and are really committed, as I found out with my conversation with the manager, sustainable development and giving unique opportunities to its staff. From their smiles to their time, they were wonderful as is the location: right on the beach where barbecues were held. The New Year's Party was a really treat and nothing less than excellent! I would recommend this hotel to anybody interested in having a good time, relaxing and chilling out in an exotic location that is yet to be overrun with far too many tourists!
Review 81:The wet room flooded by the toilet and unless was mopped up stayed wet. The housekeeping staff kept mopping it up!
Review 82:The location was great. Can easily walk to the fish restaurants close by. The staff were helpful.
Review 83:My husband, son and I came to hotel in the end of our Myanmar trip. When we wait for room to be ready we went to hotel restaurant to eat. After few hours son got signs of food poison- nausia and loose stomach. So, both days he was staying in the room and was not able to use any hotel services. So, we as a parent cannot enjoy it also. During check out I inform front desk manager Ax Pn Pa what have happened but her answer was that she doesn't have rights to do anything about the case. hotel charged 255$ per night, 70$ per night for child and a restaurant bill. Resident manager Theint Theint didn't show up till time when we need to go to airport ( more then an hour!!) . So, be carefull about hotel restaurant and I should not recommend this hotel in case if something goes wrong.Owner of the hotel should consider a new hotel management.
Review 84:Over comically wi-Fi connection. Especially as there.is no.mobile signalin Myanmar for o2
Review 85:Warm friendly helpful staff, amazing food, lovely hotel but best of allright on amazing beach
Review 86:Nothing negative about this hotel, I highly recommend it.
Review 87:The staff here were amazing.Everybody was so friendly and helpful and you could see that this came from the heart. I booked a standard room and was unaware that it would be at the back of the property. i arrived a little stressed from troubles with the airline and wasn't happy when I saw where the room was. however the young man who brought me and my things to the room was fantastic. He gave me all sorts of local information and on my last day took me to the airport and handled my check in and immigration even though he was off duty. The room itself was huge, comfortable and quiet. An excellent breakfast is served on a terrace overlooking the beach. The hotel manager stopped to see me every day to ask how everything was. The beach is incredibly clean and there are some excellent beach bar restaurants for sunset watching. And the internet worked!!!
Review 88:We had the garden view room on the second floor and it was very large and quiet. This is an extremely nice resort hotel in an excellent location. Beautiful quiet sandy beach, just a short walk to the local tasty beachside restaurants (much cheaper than the resort). We were there the end of November and always just a handful of tourists on the beach. The staff were very pleasant and a large varied buffet breakfast is served in the morning. I would not bother paying for the ocean view room. Is so pleasant in the morning having breakfast by the water, and watching the sunset at dinner or happy hour.
Review 89:The wifi wasnt working but it didnt matter due to location. The room was dark but didnt spend anytime in it except to sleep, the resort seemed empty so a free upgrade would have been great.
Review 90:The location on the beach was amazing. The staff were excellent. The loungers on the beach were super comfortable and empty. The sea was warm. The hotel food was excellent. A slice of undiscovered heaven. Free airport to hotel transfers also included.
Review 91:Restaurant is very expensive compared to others on the beach. Duty Manager was extremely rude.
Review 92:Staff as a whole were great, location was good. Restaurant does half decent western food.
Review 93:The hotel was populated with many older couple who were not very social. Lots of elderly men walking around in Speedos!
Review 94:Fantastic position in the area, staff very friendly and efficient. The food was good value for money compared against the beach restaurants and the drink during happy hour were also good value.
Review 95:BEDS!! were so hard that I imagine sleeping on the floor would be similar. Pillows not much better. Towels threadbare. Rooms were dark and poorly lit - we both hurt toes/shins on furniture. Tea bags and water were inadequate - come on guys - these things cost a pittance - why be so mean in providing 2 tea bags and 2 tiny water bottles every 24 hours. Girls at reception were grumpy - not sure why as accommodation is all about service & hospitality. Poor english language skills amongst staff was a problem.
Review 96:location was excellent & breakfast was superb.
Review 97:Very bad wifi! And expensive restaurant, but you have very good restaurants in the beach
Review 98:Located in the beach and very good breakfast
Review 99:Beautiful grounds Great choice at breakfast Perfect spot on a quiet beach Large rooms
Review 100:It was perfect
Review 101:Dirty, old run down place, Broken Furniture, bugs allover, totally overpriced, very bad value for money
Review 102:Do not stay there, horrible place
Review 103:Super hotel, super located at the beach.
Review 104:The location and the staff. Service was exceptional, I love this place!
Review 105:the non flexible staff and the tourist tag on our forehead
Review 106:the place is beautiful and the hotel well done
Review 107:Ask for a quiet room and got the one next to the road. Very noisy.
Review 108:Beachfront, really helpful and friendly staff. Good restaurants close by.
Review 109:Building close to the road, very noisy
Review 110:Bicycles need a general fix
Review 111:All was perfect
Review 112:Nothing
Review 113:Wonderful friendly staff. Great breakfast Buffett. Ideal location on the beach. Nice attention to detail. Sharp rooms. Very clean.
Review 114:Some minor maintenance in the room. The manager knows about it. She is fantastic. Very helpful and thoughtful.
Review 115:The staff. The location.
Review 116:Wifi was a joke. Disorganized. a few of the staff were actually rude
Review 117:Breakfast.
Review 118:Das Bett war wohl schön gross, doch die Matratze war kein Hit.
Review 119:Das Personal war stets sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Review 120:I didn't like noting ;)
Review 121:I like everything
Review 122:Prices Not enough seats on the beach
Review 123:WiFi
Review 124:Location! Best spot possible on Ngapali Beach Fantastic staff, great room
Review 125:Poor spa, poor wifi ( inconsistent) and poor facilities in room
Review 126:Location and free transfers
Review 127:Terrible wifi but you go to this place to get away from it all so no problem.
Review 128:Location, breakfast, staff and fresh seafood.
Review 129:Wifi connection
Review 130:Location, next to the local beach restaurant, nice bungalows, clean, friendky staff, good breakfast
Review 131:Wifi very poor Bathroom arrangement very poor, with shower not separated from the rest of the bathroom
Review 132:Good location Kind Stuff
Review 133:Price Internet service
Review 134:Service, polite, friendly efficient staff. Breakfast buffet. Cleanliness all round.
Review 135:glorious beach and sunsets, helpful staff, peace and quiet
