Reviews for Hotel Vanguarda Congress & Family
Review 1:We'd booked a double with a balcony, but got a twin with no balcony. We'd booked breakfast, but had to leave before the kitchen opened, so were provided with a "lunch box". These were very poor - two rolls, an apple and a bottle of undrinkable pear "nectar". Some pastries and a can of iced tea would have been a significant improvement. No facilities for making hot drinks in the room - this is a basic facility that even pensões provide.
Review 2:Clean and tidy with helpful staff.
Review 3:Had to wait a long time for our meal in the restaurant and when it arrived,a simple burger was over cooked and dry.
Review 4:The staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient, even in the restaurant the service was excellent.
Review 5:We stayed at this hotel at the beginning and the end of our trip. On the first night we dined in the restaurant, and I had a very disappointing meal (I am a vegetarian and the only available meal was an omelette). Apart from this, the hotel was fine, and my husband enjoyed a good meal. I discussed this with the reception staff when we left, and on the return journey my meal was very good and my choices respected Unexpectedly, when I came to pay, the meal was complimentary. I am really impressed with the kind service that we received. All staff were excellent and our stay was enjoyable. The hotel is comfortable and the views are beautiful. Breakfast was reasonable and included fruit, cereals, fresh bread rolls etc, as well as a cooked choice (we didn't try this). All in all a good experience and we would return again. The location of the hotel makes it a good choice for those wishing to break their journey from the ferries in Santander/Bilbao to travelling further south. Thank you.
Review 6:NOT APPLICABLE!!!!!!
Review 7:Great hotel with garaged, secure parking - great view from our room. Great location for the old town which is fantastic. Good breakfast with plenty of choice.Typical Portuguese locals - friendly, happy and welcoming - never tried Portugal? Go - it's a lovely country with just about everything anyone could want.
Review 8:Service is a bit slow. Lots of hill walking to get anywhere.
Review 9:Near the border so ideally situated if you need an overnight stay. Good garage parking although a little difficult to find. Easy access to lots of restaurants in town but their own food is good. Great sized rooms with a pleasant view.

Review 34:Brazilian young couple (Brazil: Rio Grande do Sul - City: Canoas )! Outstanding Hotel, so newest and cleaned rooms, bath, good food and educated people. (Nice place for family). I believe that the key is the receptionist, very, very updated regarding booking condictions and there is an amazing place for vaccations, near from touristic places: "Serra da Estrela mountain " and Belmolt city (Pedro Alvarez Cabral Castle). Enjoy it cheapest with Booking.com! Adoramos a receptividade de nossos patrícios!

Review 40:The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was clean and a good size with a balcony. We had a view of the Serra de Estrella which was stunning. Review 41:Guarda is a really nice town and the views from the hotel were great as it is on the edge of the Serra de Estrella. The room was clean with a fab big bath and a balcony. The breakfast was lovely and as the restaurant is at the top the views are great. The staff were really helpful and friendly.
Review 42:Excellent modern hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Not too far to walk to the town centre, although quite a steep climb up. (Take a taxi from the rail station) Excellent Buffet Dinner and Breakfast
Review 43:The buffet was uninspiring. Stick to the a la carte.
Review 44:Great sized rooms with lots of light and good views. A convenient hotelfor making a quick early morning drive to Spain. Bar and restaurant areavery comfortable. Garage facilities excellent.
Review 45:The thickness of the walls separating the rooms are thin and someone talking on the phone can be heard from the neighbour.
Review 46:Staff very nice and friendly; helpful. Very good and stuffy breakfast on top.
Review 47:Nice location, but it does require a walk (uphill) to get to the historic sights. There is some parking in the historic area though. The historic center is not very big, so the walk is not much even if you do walk up from the hotel.
Review 48:Beautiful property on the hillside below the historic walled city. Although inexpensive, I wouldn't classify it as a budget property. The rooms were great as were the bathrooms - everything was very high tech. Our room had a nice balcony with a view over the valley. Parking was readily available along the street in front or in the covered garage below. The staff was efficient and helpful. The breakfast, served in the restaurant at the top of the hotel, was buffet style and included eggs, cereals, numerous types of bread, yogurt, juices, etc.
