Reviews for Pousada Castelo de Estremoz

Review 1:What an amazing place! Real castle on top of the hill. All making you feel like King and Queen. Truly amazing service!!! It was the best choice for New Years celebration. Small group. Very very romantic.

Review 2:Unique experience to stay in a royal palace. spacious room with a very nice view. Comfortable bed with nice linens. Spacious bathroom and sitting area in the room. Exceptional location. Breakfast was lovely and dining at the restaurant for dinner was very nice. Pool looked great but the time of year was not pool weather.

Review 3:No hotel parking , squeezed in to a small public space . Asked for room near lift as disabled . We had a difference of opinion on what was close .

Review 4:Interesting building & decor .

Review 5:The pousada was like staying in a historical palace. The furnishings were beautiful and really impressive. Many were original. The tower adjacent to the hotel was interesting to climb. This was an elegant hotel.

Review 6:Loved the opportunity to stay in the palatial Pousada , a restored former palace with a fortress exterior and luxury antique furnishings. set high on the hill of Estremoz marble town - Marble everywhere - the cobbles are marble!

Review 7:Beautifully renovated historic old castle/palace. This is an excellent place for tasting "Alentajo" wines in the Estremoz area, although many of the wineries are difficult to find. The food in the restaurant is very good. the desk staff were very helpful.

Review 8:Despite being run by Pestana Group,, rather disappointed with the advertised Wellness Spa. The masseuse gave an excellent massage but the treatment room was like being in a cupboard, cold and close by the door, not private at all... disappointed it was not a proper spa!

Review 9:Beautiful Pousada, filled with antique furniture, paintings and porcelain. Like being in a museum. Spacious rooms, modern bathrooms, high speed Wifi (surprisingly), ample car parking right outside, excellent views and easy access to walk down into town. Breakfast was excellent too... full of hot foods... we are definitely coming back!

Review 10:The location was excellent. There was plenty of car parking space. The room was comfortable. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 11:Absolutely nothing.

Review 12:Beautiful and charming. Wonderful antique furniture. Very good ratio price/quality. Still enchanted ten years after our first visit.

Review 13:Very little.

Review 14:Beautiful hotel with fascinating furnishings and building. Brilliant location with wonderful views over surrounding area. Interesting area to visit generally.

Review 15:The location was fabulous, the views were fabulous, there was plenty of car parking space, the room was spacious and comfortable, the food was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 16:Nothing

Review 17:Everything although we didn't have dinner in the Pousada as there is a world class restaurant in the 15th century jailhouse almost next door.

Review 18:Improvements were made at pool side, no reason why do it in high season....why not in winter, when pool area is not in use. Suggestion to hotel.....get rid of the OLD couches and replace with new ones, looks shabby.

Review 19:Nice place to stay and enjoy the region. Old castle that has a lot of charm.

Review 20:Wi-fi didn't work in the rooms and we didn't managed to have it working in the common areas either.

Review 21:Beautiful castle with amazing views. The swimming pool is a plus in this very hot region in the Summer. The room was very nice, the staff friendly and breakfast was great. It was like staying in a museum but where you could use and touch everything.

Review 22:Having stayed in other Pousada's, i had expected this one to be extra special. It is nice but not as spectacular as some of the other properties available. The breakfast was pretty average to be honest.

Review 23:The building's location on top of the hill is spectacular, and the adjoining marble keep / tower is definitely worth a visit to the top ( free ). The best kept secret is the little restaurant right beside the pousada . Originally the nobleman's prison, it's now an excellent restaurant and roof-top bar ; well worth a visit some night.

Review 24:maintenance works in pool area - couldn't be helped. buffet breakfast was 'basic'.

Review 25:lovely setting and imposing presence. nice rooms and common areas are pretty spectacular. staff were very helpful.

Review 26:This is a beautiful place, full of history that you can experience in the long hallways adorned with old paintings and exquisite furniture. The panoramic views are breathtaking. Another plus : the village is just a 10 minute walk, but you get all the quietness and calm in the pousada. Great experience at an amazing price.

Review 27:The hotel was beautifully furnished with antiques in all the rooms. Each bedroom was different. Beds were comfortable and bathroom efficient. The breakfasts were excellent as was the dinner we enjoyed on one of the nights of our 3 day stay. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Review 28:Due to renovations it felt as if we were staying at a building site. Thepool was also very dirty every day, and nothing was done about it whenwe asked for some cleaning. We complained about both the renovations andthe dirty pool to the manager, but she did not seem to care much aboutthe inconvenience of her guests.

Review 29:The building and garden were beautiful, so were the public area's(entree, diningroom, lounge). It all looked very grand, too bad aboutthe renovations! Because of the renovations we had to move to anotherbedroom after 1 night, which was absolutely not as beautiful as thefirst one. After complaining we received a discount of 20 euro's (onour total bill of 330 euro's)

Review 30:The renovations!! Why hadn't they completed the painting and pool renovations before the summer? There was a lot of mess around which didn't make looking out the window very pleasant.the place needs a lot of work and maintenance re unsafe plugs in rooms and wiring!

Review 31:Location and breakfast.

Review 32:We felt positively Royal staying in the fortress/palace built by Dom Dinis for his Queen. Luxurious room with a king-size bed and a view, no compromises on comfort, great breakfast. Climbed to the top of the XIII c. tower and had coffee in the inner courtyard. Estremoz is a nice town to explore, for dinner highly recommend A CADEIA - "Old Jail" (2 minutes walk from the pousada)

Review 33:Pool bar was being renovated as well as a part of the outside pool area, but this did not disturb the pool usage, they just need to work harder and faster so the area is nice for the peak season.

Review 34:Dinner was excellent

Review 35:Sadly, at the time we were there a lot of renovations were being undertaken but before the Summer the place will be immaculaet

Review 36:it was like being a part of history.

Review 37:None whatsoever.

Review 38:The hotel is old world elegance to a T. Climbing the tower and walking the halls is a great experience. Gracious staff. Dinner and breakfast lovely.

Review 39:Nothing to comment except for the small detail (and soon to be fixed the staff explained us) that there is no wifi in the rooms.

Review 40:We loved the location and ambiance of this Medieval castle set on a hill top with fantastic views over the surrounding area. The staff makes the experience extra special because of their kindness, attentiveness and eye for detail. The rooms are richly decorated with antique furniture which made us feel like queen and king of the castle. We felt special the moment we arrived.

Review 41:It is not suitable for working. I had lucky for having wifi, but my colleagues in the room next to mine did not. There is no desk to work in the room.

Review 42:Fantastic facilities like a castle. Warm environment and very confortable.

Review 43:absolutely nothing except having to leave.

Review 44:A truely wonderful place to stay. We were made to feel really welcome from the moment we went through the door & nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. A beautiful building that is obvioulsy much loved by the staff.

Review 45:WiFi limited to the lobby and the restaurant.

Review 46:Perfect location of this impressive castel. The castel, the lobby, the corridors, the rooms, and the restaurant make a lasting, stylish impression. If you want to stay in style it's for you.

Review 47:Wifi in rooms would be nice. Rooms are a bit dark.

Review 48:It's a bit like being royalty for a day. The building is a historic jem. Rooms are huge and interesting. Great views.

Review 49:No negatives

Review 50:Everything about this stay was superb. Staff is helpful, capable, anxious to please. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Restaurant very good with top-of-the-line service. Terrific experience.

Review 51:Throughout portugal the one thing that I faulted was the lack of shampoo and conditioner separate from bath gel. With travel restrictions today I depend on that small luxury. The other thing was that while our room was truly lovely, we had twin beds pushed together! Made separately. Would have appreciated a queen or king.

Review 52:As we approached the town of estremoz we could see the medieval walled town and sure enough, perched at the top was a castle which did indeed turn out to be OUR castle. It was truly splendid. The rooms were a good size and had a safe which many of our places did not. The food in the restaurant was very good. Estremoz is small and easily toured, which we did in the late afternoon and evening of our arrival.

Review 53:The parador is with great history and filled with paintings, china, tapestry and antique furnitures. We enjoyed the ambience, the comfortable room, the spacious restaurant & bar. I think they are a bit under staff. Staff worked in the restaurant will have to look after the bar and pool area in the same time. The spaces in between are huge. However, from my observation, every staff tried their best to provide good services to every guest including us. We appreciated their efforts.

Review 54:Pestana should pay attention to the Jewels that the Hisotic Pousadas And invest in Renovating.

Review 55:We will recomend the Estremoz Pousadas without any problem. I've been a client for 35 years. Perhaps the estremoz pousada though beautiful could be improved, modernised. Attention shpuld also be ficused on lack of staff at Reception and Breakfast room. The staff is wonderful.

Review 56:Not quite enough lighting in room, especially bathroom. Better WIFI coverage. We were in room 128 and never had signal.

Review 57:Great decor Very courtious staff. Very clean

Review 58:Our room was very nice but very small with a bed less than double. Difficult to sleep in two people. Hot water scorching hot and only one plug to charge our phone etc.

Review 59:the pousada was very beautiful and luxurious. we were impressed by the quality of antiques and the garden and at a reasonable price for what was on offer.

Review 60:wifi does not work in the rooms.

Review 61:the staff was very hospitable and friendly, the location of the hotel is perfect for walking around the area and right opposite the local museum and the prime local restaurants.

Review 62:In the reservation we had asked for a room with a large bed but upon arrival they had only a room left with twin beds.

Review 63:We had room with a nice view on the tower (from which one has a great view). Pool is very nice and good selection of foods at the breakfast. We also liked the restaurant.

Review 64:Being in this hotel is like being in your own private castle. It is beautiful and historic. Dinner at the restaurant was one of the best we've had. Highly recommended!

Review 65:English not spoken by all staff which made communicating a bit of a problem but not a huge issue. The staff on the desk were very fluent

Review 66:Beautiful hill top location. The building is amazing. Great restaurant in an old jail, right next store.

Review 67:It was very empty (we only saw one other pair of guests), and that felt a little odd at night, but it was also quite cool.

Review 68:It was like staying in a museum. Very fun. I'd imagine children would love it. We were given a lovely room overlooking the valley and really enjoyed our stay.

Review 69:Enjoyed Estremoz and the proximity to other interesting towns, eg., Elvas.

Review 70:The best part of our stay was the beautiful atmosphere and quality of the service.

Review 71:lovely spacious room and nice bathrooms. Second time we've stayed here and would go back. Breakfast was super.

Review 72:Nice helpful staff great location, excellent breakfast

Review 73:price for a night is too high for a rather old room

Review 74:general atmosphere and look and feel very unique nice swimming pool very quiet and peaceful

Review 75:Beautiful building,. Excellent facilities, very efficient and friendly staff.

Review 76:The pousada was a truly beautiful and unique experience. The antique furniture and paintings were amazing. The staff were very helpful.

Review 77:No wifi in the guest rooms. The rooms were a bit dreary.

Review 78:The large lounge. The beautiful architecture. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 87:The History and nostalgia of the castle.

Review 88:Unique atmosphere, great service and great breakfast at an reasonable fare

Review 89:Pull area closed , no information about that before booking. Restaurant meal more than average

Review 95:Good old style , good atmosphere quiet. Nice staff

Review 96:Wi-fi only in common areas

Review 97:Superb view. Stay in an original castle. Spacious rooms. Antique furniture.

Review 98:Limited staff, poor internet connection

Review 99:Location, décor, confort, value for money

Review 100:EXTREMELY POOR SIGNPOSTING TO THE POUSADA FROM ESTREMOZ TOWN.

Review 101:ELEGANCE, LOCATION

Review 102:Staff in the restaurant - very uninterested when we complained about a main course being cold in the centre.

Review 103:nada

Review 104:Absolutamente tudo

Review 105:Nothing..loved being there.

Review 106:No pretentions to being slick and up to date. Just wonderful aristocratic faded grandeur and warm, kind and helpful staff

Review 107:We loved everything!

Review 108:Wonderful people, history, room, service, food, location and pool.

Review 109:This Pousada is fantastic, the staff is very friendly and all the furnitures and arts make this Pousada a very special place to visit and stay.

Review 110:The food was not of a very high standard.

Review 111:The ambiance was great. The staff very helpful and courteous.

Review 112:felt it is a bit faded and not as smart as we remember

Review 113:we have stayed at this hotel many times and it is very nice, rooms are comfortable and the staff are very good. Nice location if a bit difficult to find.

Review 114:Being a former castle and an older structure, it is a little bit musty. Opening the windows helped with that. Driving up to the Pousada was not exactly easy...if you're not used to the hills in Portugal (and in a rental car). Also, the night before we asked about parking and told we could park anywhere. The next morning, when we were getting ready to leave, they were starting to set up for a festival that weekend and no parking signs were posted everywhere. I'm surprised the staff at the Pousada didn't know.

Review 115:It's a former castle! The rooms are spacious and comfortable. We could open our windows entirely, with a full view of the pool and town below us. Climbing up in the tower gave us an even better vantage point. Everything was clean. Breakfast was plentiful - your typical European/Portuguese breakfast. We were there earlier in the season, so it often felt like "our" castle. You could almost feel the history of the place. Also, it's a very short walk down into the town of Estremoz. We would definitely stay there again.

Review 116:Wonderful location in an old castle on top of a hill, beautifully modernised, spacious rooms, appropriately decorated. Lovely dining and breakfast rooms and terrific local wine with local cuisine. Plenty of parking. Pleasant visit to market in the town on Saturday morning (antiques, bric-a-brac, and food.

Review 117:No wi-fi in the bedrooms, but it did work in the bar/sitting-room area. No private parking (well, they didn't have cars when the castle was built), but we found a place just outside.

Review 118:The staff were attentive to all our needs, from before our stay, when we received an email with information about the hotel and the area, to our arrival, with our cases taken to our room for us. The furniture and fittings are extraordinary. A good choice of sweet and savoury foods for breakfast.

Review 119:The enormous difficulty in finding the place, getting to it, and getting away again. Signposting in the town is appalling. Not the fault of the poussada, but urgently needs addressing

Review 120:Great atmosphere as you would expect with a poussada; location at the top of the town and therefore views just terrific; lovely dinner; helpful staff
