Reviews for Beacon Pointe Resort

Review 1:The location was close to Duluth but just far enough to feel like a resort property. The staff was friendly and accomodating, as well as helpful with recommendations. We loved that it was on the lake, and were able to get a lakeside room, offering incredible views. An all around positive experience, wish we would have planned to stay longer.

Review 2:Inadequate maintenance, "near misses" in reaching really great experiences. Just a little attention to detail would take this place from pretty good to really amazing. Also, the informational binder in the room had all sorts of out of date information that rendered it almost entirely useless.

Review 3:Great view, heated underground parking, quiet

Review 4:Shower settings were finicky...scalding hot or ice cold. Balcony privacy is lacking. You can see into the adjacent rooms which is really uncomfortable. This could easily be changed by adding a privacy screen on either side rather than the slatted dividers. On the lake with that view, this was an issue as we didn't feel comfortable sitting on the balcony without making others uncomfortable.

Review 5:Comfy bed, nice room, great view, nice amenities.

Review 6:The housekeepers never came in to our room to clean it. We stayed there 3 nights. There wasn't any breakfast left after 9 am.

Review 7:The view of Lake Superior from the resort.

Review 8:The room was great but we could hear the kids next door so plainly and they weren't being loud just normal conversation. For me the bed was too soft but my wife loved it.

Review 9:The location was great and the view from the room was fantastic. The breakfast was very good and a nice variety.

Review 10:You missed out on doing the little (nice) extras. Like better Kleenex and toilet paper. People remember the special touches. And the young people behind the front desk could dress a little nicer. You run a business-----dress like it.

Review 11:Wished the check-in time was earlier or the check-out time was later. Too short a time to be able to be in the room.

Review 12:Liked the opportunity for s'mores and the great view and access to the shore and the walking path/bike path.

Review 13:Not the resort feel that I was expecting. Next time will stay at well-known named hotel instead.

Review 14:The location of being right on the lake was nice, but it would have been nice to have a room facing the lake. Also, the distance from the hotel to Canal park was really convenient and a beautiful walk. Staff was attentive and nice.

Review 15:The breakfast room was rather cramped with only three guest tables being available in the small room. The waffles were very tasty, but the rest of the offerings were at a minimum.

Review 16:Our penthouse was very roomy and bright with all the windows overlooking Lake Superior 's shipping lanes and the canal's bridge. Having two decks was certainly a bonus. The bed was quite comfy and the furnishings were top notch.

Review 17:Card key access was poor breakfast was poor even for continental bathroom had previous occupants hair in sink tub and on wall

Review 18:Fire and s'mores the view

Review 19:It was the worst place we have ever stayed at. Smelly pillows and bedsheets, rude staff at check-in, a noisy bathroom, sad breakfast, and truly a laughable establishment. Do not stay in room 210!

Review 20:I loved the room and the view was far best from any other resort we have stayed at in Duluth. I will be definitely be coming back soon..I loved it and I got to share it with someone special..

Review 21:Room was not labled as handicap but was obviously set up with lower hanging closets and a handicap accessible bathroom with extra low countertops.

Review 22:Room had great little extras like silverware, glasswear, and paper towels. Beautiful location along waterfront walkways. Room was very clean.

Review 23:The breakfast was awful for the price they charge for the rooms. Also the coffee in the room was disappointing because they only give you enough grounds for about a cup but you have a 10 cup coffee pot (weird).

Review 24:I loved location, view and the bikes on site.

Review 25:Check in time is later than more hotels but staff called us when the room was ready.

Review 26:We loved the lakeside location, helpful staff and small boutique feel. Will stay again!

Review 27:Definitely needed more staff at front desk during morning hours. Continental breakfast is pretty limited and runs out of stuff if you're not there right away. More hot breakfast food would be nice. And more coffee - it always runs out.

Review 28:Always a great location. Great amenities especially the underground parking, workout room, pool, and free bike rental.

Review 29:The staff was at times curt and not helpful. Someone in our group ripped open her finger on a coil that had sprung out of the bed and the night manager showed up in jeans and a t-shirt with a few bandaids and no solution. The morning manager offered nothing as compensation. There were dishes, a microwave and fridge in the room which is nice, but no silver ware, no cream or sugar for the coffee maker and no instructions. The room keys frequently failed on all our rooms and we had to have them remade sometimes three times.

Review 30:The view is wonderful. It's right on Lake Superior and you can listen to the waves at night.

Review 31:It was far from the strip, but not far enough to be a hassle, and that also made it quieter so I guess it wasn't a bad situation.

Review 32:My room was upgraded by surprise without extra charge to a lakeside with a jacuzzi. The room was far better than I had imagined, very clean, large, modern, and extremely comfortable bed!

Review 33:Sleeper sofa mattress VERY worn & Uncomfortable, kitchen miss'g basic utensils (rubber spatula, pancake spatula, fry pan, pizza pan & cutter) shud have salt & pepper and dish scrubby. No TV guide. Had only 1 blanket. Dishwasher brackets loose/makes machine tippy when door open. Bed linen on sleeper sofa was so wrinkled, thought linens not changed until I put a fresh 1 on & discovered merely Very wrinkled (can be resolved by pulling out of dryer promptly & folded correctly by staff).

Review 34:Beautiful lake view! quiet, grounds were clean, nice kitchen seating, WiFi, convenient parking and walk paths, love the outdoor pit with seating & s'mores, liked pool & hot tub, free apples in lobby, front desk workers pleasant.

Review 35:We stayed for the week. The bed was very uncomfortable and probably needs to be replaced. No iron or hair dryer. Neighbors balcony looked into ours.

Review 36:The view, location, staff were nice. Appeared clean and well maintained.

Review 37:We had an extremely difficult time controlling the heat and cooling in our unit. Our son slept on the pull-out couch and that room was either cold or hot and we could never get the temp regulated. We had lots of problems with our room cards and constantly had to get them rekeyed. We were told by the staff they needed to replace them so feel like they knew the problem existed but were not addressing. This was a pain since there are two sets of doors to key to enter into the condo units. Another untimely event was having the lawn fertilized right before the 4th holiday and we couldn't be on it for 24 hours. This area is a highly desirable area to spend time watching ships come in and just relaxing by the water. Really bad planning to do this on a holiday weekend.

Review 38:Location was great and we spent a lot of time on the Lakewalk that took us to Canal Park. Unit was clean and comfortable. Kitchen amenities were a nice convenience.

Review 39:Breakfast seating and choices. Who seats guest for breakfast in outdoor metal chairs without a cushion? In addition the room set-up was strange.

Review 40:View from the balcony was spectacular. Free WiFi worked well.

Review 41:The bed was amazingly comfy! The comfiest bed I've ever slept in. And it was nicely decorated and homey and very clean. The balcony was a nice bonus too and all for a decent price.

Review 42:Had a room with no view, but when asked about a room change (the place is right on Lake Superior) they switched me to a room with at least a partial view of the lake.

Review 43:Staff in the evening checking where less than pleasant. However, staff the next day were helpful. Felt the room was overpriced. Breakfast is not like the Hampton!

Review 44:Bicycles to ride, fire place with chocolate. Pretty location.

Review 45:The staff was helpful for the most part but I did call to get an iron for the ironing board and it never showed up. Not a huge deal but I do feel like for the price per night for the room, the staff could kick it up a notch with friendliness. There was one day our room wasn't cleaned. The resort could add a few more little touches such as mint on your pillow, happy hour gathering, better chairs for decks and around campfire.

Review 46:I loved being right on the water and sitting on our little deck with a view of the bridge and downtown. I liked being able to walk down the path next to the water right from the hotel.

Review 47:TV reception was awful. Breakfast was very mediocre. "Private" balconies had an open wall connecting to your neighbors balcony. When we asked for an extra blanket the guy at the front desk said it was gonna be a while cause they were slammed, we then saw him taking a smoke break 10 minutes later.

Review 48:beautiful view.

Review 49:The shower head was broken so we couldn't get hot water to shower. There was shampoo but no conditioner. There was a coffee pot but no coffee. The air conditioner made the room too cold. Had to turn it off, so the blanket was too hot. The breakfast was bland, with minimal choices. There was seldom someone available at the front desk. They did not offer a discount for no hot water.

Review 50:The location is beautiful.

Review 51:Questioned why you would want a window looking out onto the pool from inside your room when you didn't have access to the pool from the 2nd floor. It was a bit noisy when people were using the pool.

Review 52:Property was clean and well maintained and was easily accessed from Hwy 35. Staff was friendly. View was awesome.

Review 53:Location was a little removed from activities = needed to drive to everything instead of walking.

Review 54:underground parking was a great perk., hard to locate access to the garage and key card access. Breakfast was great but only having 3 small tables didn't allow for many people when it was taken up by 1 family. We took our food to our room - maybe could have sat by the pool but it wasn't offered and we didn't know if we could. On another note it was raining so we went to the downtown casino. it was being remodeled but still fun. It was small but ok and we broke even or better!

Review 55:Listing on the sight as I began booking the room stated all rooms had a view of the lake. It wasn't until check-in process that the room wasn't one of their lake view rooms. Wifi had some problems

Review 56:Property is located right on the waterfront. Breathtaking views of Lake Superior from certain rooms or from beach chairs by the lake.

Review 57:microwave was dirty, top of frig was dusty, could have more options for breakfast and more seating.

Review 58:staff was very friendly, view was very good. Beds were comfortable.

Review 59:Staff was not personable. And I suggest you have a map of duluth, esp the canal area for tourists to get around with. When we asked the desk clerk about a map, it was like we were aliens. The map in the little duluth booklet is not detailed enough.

Review 60:We expected a kitchenette so we brought food to make couldn't make it. Expected a grill outside, did not find one. Our plan was to save the extra money we spent on the hotel with a view by eating in which did not happen. Microwave did not work so it was replace with a tiny one. When we made the reservation we checked the box asking if we wanted breakfast which turned out to be continental, again paying to eat out rather than getting a breakfast that we signed up for. Advertising and room descriptions are misleading. When voicing our concerns at checkout the clerk seemed annoyed and asked if we had anything complaints rather than apologizing. We will not be staying again or recommending a stay.

Review 61:The view.

Review 62:Everything was absolutely fabulous. We even went out and walked quite a ways along the water on walking trails that were there, it was an amazing spot to be at, I wish I could have stayed much longer!

Review 63:The comfort of the room was top notch, It felt like I was home, except here I had a beautiful view of what looked like the ocean, and sitting out on the deck was so serene!

Review 64:Clean, comfortable and great location. Appears to have been updated within last couple of years. Liked the option of underground parking, as it rained during our stay.

Review 65:The weather was very cold and it was in May. and it rained. but the motel made up for it. with the pool and sauna and the wonderful hot tub.a

Review 66:I can not say only one good thing. It is the best place we have ever stayed. The grand children loved it also. Anyone would be happy to stay here.

Review 67:Room was not as promised, wake up call was almost 30 minutes late, no offer of help or compensation when I let the staff know.

Review 68:The location is great, the room was clean, and the view is excellent.

Review 69:balconies were very small and you could see the neighbors with the slatted wall. Breakfast was very basic. Thought this was a fabulous place but the price tag did not warrant the set up of the facility.

Review 70:location and view. Loved being connected to the boardwalk and being out of the congestion.

Review 71:The room was wonderful with A SPECTACULAR VIEW OF THE LAKE! The free use of bikes was an added bonus. We rode down the Lakewalk to Canal Park.Nice activity for the afternoon!

Review 72:One thing we did not enjoy hear was how easily we could hear our neighbors. Also, the plumbing in our room would make a funny noise whenever someone above us used the bathroom.

Review 73:Loved the location And being able to park our car in the secured garage underneath.

Review 74:We didn't like that we could hear the doors slamming from other guests rooms below us every day.

Review 75:We liked being in the penthouse, it was spacious, great view, had a nice jacuzzi and a comfortable feel to the room.

Review 76:The only issue we had was that the thermostat seemed to be wired wrong. We stayed in mid-February at it was below zero outside for most of our stay. We set the thermostat to about 66 degrees and woke to it being 80 in the room according to a separate digital thermometer in the room. When we had breakfast we heard a few other guests mention they had the same issue.

Review 77:The resort staff was friendly and the facilities appeared to be much newer than I anticipated. We visited friends in Duluth during the stay and from what they knew, the resort company that owns Beacon made the purchase a few years ago and did some remodeling. To us, everything seemed like new. We had a great view of the lake from our private balcony, extremely comfortable bed. The location is great being just out of downtown for the quite but no more than 5-10 minutes from all of the great spots in Duluth.

Review 78:For $400, this was not a good deal for a romantic Valentine's Day. The hot tub was very small. The adjoining door to the suite next to ours meant that we heard everything going on next door. The TV was small, the mattress was not firm, and the furnishings OK but nothing special. I would not recommend this place unless you can get it for 1/4 of what we paid.

Review 79:View of the lake, balcony.

Review 80:We rented the room during winter but the balcony was still awesome cause of the lake even tho it would be better during the summer. Over all it was a great and cozy comfort.

Review 81:For the amount that I paid for the room and the quality of the facility, I would expect the additional items to be excellent. The breakfast selection was poor. The items that were sitting out (bagels, muffins, etc) were dry and hard. Coffee was not good and the size of the breakfast room was small and uncomfortable.

Review 82:Size and quality of the room.

Review 83:Housekeeping was so-so. They missed garbage cans to empty and one if the beds didn't get made while we were there. They did not replace soaps/shampoos and paper products. We also requested to have a TV repaired and broken light bulb replaced (twice) and they were never done. Two of the kitchen chairs were falling apart, too.

Review 84:The location was great. The apartment was nice-except for a non-working TV and broken lightbulb and a couple of rickety kitchen chairs.

Review 85:Pull out sofa, mold in bathroom, spoiled bananas at breakfast. We wanted to use the pull out sofa and there were no springs in the mattress & the sofa itself was dirty & torn. We bought our own air matress

Review 86:View, shower, space, coffee

Review 87:The first room we were in had a window overlooking the pool. Very loud as kids were in the pool area so we moved. Had to wait a while to check in one person but she was taking a reservation on the phone ...another couple in front and behind us waiting. Breakfast area dirty and not refilled both mornings.

Review 88:Underground parking. Location is fine. Rooms decorated nicely and up to date. Hotel had lots of kids so not really a romantic get away.

Review 89:Our room was not cleaned very well before we arrived. We did not have Kleenex or towels in the room, we were also told we had a fire place and we didn't. I was charged the wrong amount at check and had to argue for the price I booked for. The continental breakfast was the absolute worst I've had in any hotel.

Review 90:Like the location, and the underground parking garage.

Review 91:Wish there was a way to keep the doors open to the three units to have access without using the key card every time, but just a minor inconvenience.

Review 92:We had enough room to spread out and host 22 people for a small private wedding ceremony. Had a wonderful weekend. We had 11 people staying at our 3 bedroom penthouse.

Review 93:Lots of doors. This could be corrected by adding a few extra door stoppers in each room to prop them open. But there were very few issues with our stay.

Review 94:We had about 20 people staying in 2 of the 3 bedroom penthouse suites. It was very nice and an amazing weekend. The views were great.

Review 95:Could have had just a couple more kitchen plates, cups, etc. Heard the people next door until 4:00 in the morning

Review 96:Very friendly & helpful staff. We were in one of the rooms they were upgrading. They are looking very nice! Perfect location for a shopping get-away with my sister.

Review 97:Windows were open in our room upon arrival, sink didn't drain, staff was rude, breakfast was dry, lamp didn't even have light bulb

Review 98:Pool, hot tub

Review 99:Room wasn't ready when we arrived for check-in at 5pm, walls are very paper thin -every noise echoed in the room.

Review 100:Kitchenettes, pool, breakfast, extra big rooms, location, staff very nice, large booklet of information of area activities both in room and in sitting area, extra large bathrooms, lake side, walking trails right out the door, upgraded furniture.

Review 101:What i did not like was. That it was not clean around the back of jacuzzi. Bad. 1inch of dirt. Need new toaster forever slow.

Review 102:Location and rooms were nice. Could have a better breakfast..better rolls.

Review 103:Maid service skipped our room. Had to call front desk to get some hotelemployees (maid service was done for the day) to change bedding, get newtowels, shampoo and empty trash.

Review 104:Bed was very soft-not my preference Carpet was a little soiled near the door/kitchenette

Review 105:Location Large bathroom Kitchenette Updated decor Quiet

Review 106:stained carpet overall need for updating at this point, this is definitely not a luxury property anymore

Review 107:lovely linens good breakfast mini kitchen the sound of waves breaking on the rocks below our balcony proximity to Lake Walk reasonable price

Review 108:We stayed in the penthouse suite. On your website it said full kitchen and fireplace.we were very disappointed to find out we had neither. The food in the town was not pleasant so it would have been very nice to have been able to cook our own food other than a microwave. The jacuzzi room didn't have a TV in it which was very disappointing. The TV In the living room was fuzzy. Continental breakfast was horrible food was old and rock hard

Review 109:Loved the pillows and the view...

Review 110:The continental breakfast area is small, but this can be compensated by kitchenettes in each unit. Plenty of food.

Review 111:I liked the bed and sheets/covers. they were high end. The location is great for city highlights. Although it was cold at the time of our visit, we still enjoyed the views of the lake.

Review 112:Room was dark and cold upon arrival. No channel listing. No bathtub. Limited toiletries. No wine glass in cupboard.

Review 113:Sat on the balcony with a piping hot cup of coffee, listened to the waves lapping the shore, and experienced an incredible sunrise. Serene. Rarely do I experience that grand pleasure on a business trip. The bedding and towels were wonderful. When on business in Duluth, I will be back.

Review 114:Housekeeping was horrible......non-existent. Our first clue should have been the sticky table (which I scrubbed) and the badly stained carpet. On our 2nd day, dirty coffee filter was still in maker, coffee not replaced, fresh towels just dumped on sink.

Review 115:We rented a penthouse. The view was spectacular. Just steps from Superior's shore with a great look at the lift bridge and the ships passing through. Nice and close to any place you wish to visit in Duluth.

Review 116:There was a stain on the carpet. Other than that, everything was very clean.

Review 117:Absolutely wonderful view of Lake Superior! Clean, comfortable room. The underground parking is a nice feature. I was there in the off-season, so it was very quiet and relaxing. It might be noisier when it gets busy in the warmer months.

Review 118:People next door to us had children running and playing loudly until 1 am when I asked to be moved. Housekeeping left our door ajar with a door stop and NO staff was around. Who knows how long it was left open for all to enter and take whatever they wanted?? Safey\ security issue!!!!!

Review 119:The staff was willing to work with me\ move me courteously. Beautiful view

Review 120:I thought they could have taken care of the room a little more. we had to go down everyday to get coffee for our maker and they should of dumped that garbage everyday.

Review 121:the beds where very nice

Review 122:We booked a King sized bed but when we got there it was clearly a double/queen. If the bed had been the size it was supposed to be it would have been fantastic. The breakfast area was tiny and the selection of food wasn't that great.

Review 123:I liked that we had a whirlpool in our room and that we had a view of Lake Superior. We were very close to all of the attractions Duluth has to offer.

Review 124:Please invest in new mattresses. Was very uncomfortable. I know Beacon Point is in the process of updating the condos and believe that they will do a great job.

Review 125:The condo was very comfortable. Lake walk right at your doorstep. The staff was very professional and helpful. To the City of Duluth - still a great place to go and relax. You can park your car all week and just walk or bike to everything. Sorry about taking the beautiful weather back with me to Asheville NC.

Review 126:See above comment

Review 127:We loved the view from the room! However the walls/floors are so thin you could hear conversations going on below us. The room it self was nice but the carpet had a large stain right in front of the balcony door. You couldn't miss seeing it.

Review 128:Housekeeping was terrible. Not the hotel's fault, the staff was great. Wish there was more variety for complementary breakfast.

Review 129:The sunrise out the patio door was phenomenal. Location of the hotel was excellent and layout was really nice.

Review 130:Parking is somewhat limited - you may have to park on the street. Our room was only fully cleaned one day of our trip (we were there 5 nights). It looks like the staff may have come in to empty the trash, but they didn't make the bed, leave fresh towels or bath products. The TV in the bedroom was broken our entire stay (we asked them 3 times to fix it). Water pressure for the shower is also terrible.

Review 131:We were upgraded from a standard room to a one bedroom condo overlooking the lake - so gorgeous and we really appreciated it. The bed is super comfy, and the rooms are blocked off from the hallway to avoid excess noise. Great property!

Review 132:Kitchenette was a small refrigerator and a small microwave. Not what was expected. Handicap shower, but table and 2 wood chairs were high designer style. Only one soft chair for room for 2. Breakfast area sized for 3 rooms at a time only. No closets in room.

Review 133:Location was good and garage was nice.

Review 134:Charged more than booked for. Put on first floor despite second request due to disability. Offered the penthouse for an extra $40+ tx and hotel charges...per night! Carpet so filthy didn't dare take shoes off. Safety rail in restroom fell off the wall with a slight brush against it. Room so small only one person ata time could pass by the bed. One chair for two people. Lockers in a hall instead of storage spots in the room (dresser, closet, etc.). No onsite restaurant so you must drive to a store or diner/cafe. Right off the freeway and in town so traffic and sirens are a constant background noise. Couldn't stay; paid $25 more TOTAL to stay 50 miles up the coast...2 restaurants, king bed, fireplace, full couch, 3rd floor, awesome lake view with huge open windows, fire pit with free S'mores, drink specials, and more. 30 steps to the lake and a hiking trail out onto a jut out into the lake. Way better.

Review 135:The view

Review 136:We had specifically put the privacy sign in the key slot but it was obvious when we returned to our room that someone had been in there despite our request

Review 137:The walking trail that started just at the property was wonderful and the view was spectacular although we did not have it in our room.

Review 138:I walked into my room and the view of lake was awesome.Loved the privacy and quiet from the deck. The staff was very helpful when I decided to stay 2 more nights. This was my first time in Duluth and I would strongly recommend this resort.
