Reviews for Tan-Tar-A Resort

Review 1:I was told the bowling alley would be open during our stay, but it was not. And the scrambled eggs we had for roomservice breakfast were disgusting.

Review 2:Indoor pool and hot tub was lovely. Room was spacious and cozy. Kiddos loved it!

Review 3:The food. We went there for the Thanksgiving buffet. The turkey wasunder cooked, the selection was minimal, the tiny glasses for the drinkswere so small the staff couldn't keep up with refills. Also theBrown Bear breakfast buffet. Too many things wrong to list here.

Review 4:The decor is very outdated. The halls that connect the buildings are dirty and smell very musty. No valet parking.

Review 5:I love the location. I like having two restaurants on the property and activities that are convenient.

Review 6:Our stay was very enjoyable. Staff from our dinner on Thanksgiving to our our departure on Saturday morning were pleasant and very helpful! definitely will return with family.

Review 7:only one elevator was working. and the one that was working was very slow. you had to wait 5 minutes or more.

Review 8:the room and all the things you can do on the resort.

Review 9:Some of the staff was not to friendly

Review 10:It had a variety of things to enjoy like horse back riding, indoor and outdoor pool and spa also a water patk indoors

Review 11:I could not get to the restaurants easily. They were not handicapaccessable for me. The black top roads are too steep for me to walk downto the bus. The bus was too fast and hard for me to hold on. I wanted touse the spa but I was too tired after the rough ride I went through andit got too late after being stuck outside. The lady bus driver was nice. She rescued me. The man bus driver abandoned me at the top of a steepblacktop by the restaurant to go get his dinner. I couldnt get down thesteep grade . It was only a few feet but I couldnt do it. The staff atthe front desk are stuffy. It was too dark at the end of the street towait for a bus. At the room. I got mosquito bites. I didnt get to doanything fun that I came for except eat dinner. For me it was a hike upmany steps and long hallways to the elevator. I was disappointed and hadhoped to eat down by the water with at least a view but it was too hardto go down there. We were so lost on the road trying to use our own car.Its too big and looks more like a subdivision than a resort. I never sawthe lake the whole time I was there. I feel like no one is really goingto care about one handicapped person trying to have a short vacation anduse the spa features and the view. That would have been enough vacationfor me. It could have been the perfect place according to the ads.

Review 12:The restaurants were nice and there were many choices the staff werevery nice.

Review 13:Room smelled like mold. Air Conditioner leaked a 10' puddle of water and soaked carpet and floor. It was obvious this had been happening a while so no telling what the floor beneath looked like. Bath Tub would not drain.

Review 14:View was awesome and the property is beautiful.

Review 15:Meghan at the check in counter was very rude and would rollher eyes when you asked her a question. Why is she in customer service if she don't like helping people? The estates had a real bad spider infestation. Could use an adults only pool.

Review 16:Very comfortable atmosphere. A lot of stuff to do.

Review 17:We were put into a dirty room, the tub was dirty the sheets were filthy!Security brought up new sheets and handed them to us to change themourselves we refused, killed 5-6 spiders in our room there was a cornerfull of mosquitoes, we ended changing rooms at 2am! .... spiders!! Thelounge chairs at the pool had spiders and webs on them... Couldn'tenjoy while kids were playing in water ... or while watching the movieat the pool ... the buffet was horrinle wasted $68 feeding my familythat junk! The kids were bored at the Waterpark after the 1st 15-20minutes but they're 11-13 so younger kids may enjoy it later.

Review 18:Ummm? Hmm... I'll come back to this question ... the time spenttogether at the resort with my family ... we had a family trip andso there were about 15 of us there ... that's what made thisresort fun ..

Review 19:Many of their other promotions weren't available to anyone whobooked through booking.com

Review 20:Tan Tar a is centrally located and has a lot of amenities. Their recentremodel of some areas looks really nice. They have a lot of activitiesand you could stay on property most of the time you are there.

Review 21:Spiders in the room, and on the balcony. I asked for a lake view room. Our room had trees blocking the view. If we stood up and looked thru ahole in the trees we could see the lake. We were put on the estates sideof the resort.

Review 22:The breakfast at the Bear resort was very good. We were not offered acoupon book. Apparently you have to ask for it to get discounts for therestaurant, etc.

Review 23:Excessive spiders and spider webs on premises. Due to the location there was an uncontrollable insect and spider presence in the rooms! Furniture, arcade, bowling alley and restaurants are out of date. Rates should be significantly lower.

Review 24:The outdoor pool

Review 25:Our room was stuck back in a corner by the exhaust from the BK and Pizza place. We felt like we were in a basement. We booked plenty of time out but feel like we had the worst room in the resort. For a couple get away I felt like I was back in college living in a multi apartment room in a house.

Review 26:The Marina was great!

Review 27:There was an awful odor that could not be overlooked when entering our building. It was embarrassing when our guest visited. We dined at Windrose and upon returning to our building... the smell almost made me lose my expensive meal. Wasn't comfortable sitting on patio. Bought a broom and swept, but there is a dire need for new indoor/outdoor carpet.

Review 28:We were nestled right in the middle of everthing. We were compensated for our inconvenience. The Director of (Food?) Services acknowledged our 35 years of marriage. The Banana Foster was GREAT!

Review 29:Spiders and no Elevator for suite access lots steps.. need complimentary breakfast

Review 30:Everything except the spiders were over WELMING! On the balconies and inside room they were coming down in webs in the room... the suites definitely need elevator access

Review 31:No room service first day and no replenished coffee supplies or shampoo the second day. Refrigerator door in 295 does not stay closed and our drinks were warm.

Review 32:Location on lake comfortable bed

Review 33:I booked the room a week earlier and checked in the room at 2-3 p.m in accordance with the check in time. It was regular weekend that I visited this place. I was at this hotel for my first anniversary and requested for lake view at the time of booking. I was very very disappointed that I was not allotted lake view room also my room was on the top most floor without an elevator. The toilet pot had bruises inside and the bath tub was not white in color and clearly make out the creamish color... I am totally disapproving the value for money and the way the staff allotted the underrated room for someone who booked the room a week earlier... In a way it spoiled my anniversary mood as soon as I checked into the room and thank god for the parasailing and other water sports in lake of Ozarks that lifted our mood back again. I wished I booked a clean small hotel rather than an unclean resort

Review 34:Swimming pool, ambience, marina services

Review 35:The fact that my kids requested their fun money that is promised on the website and were completely blown off by the rep that checked us in. Also every meal we had at the resort was subpar at best and extremely overpriced. For the price of 1 beer or drink at the resort you could literally drive out across the street and get 6 pack for the price they reconsider most of their concession prices because convenience is not worth 600% markup.

Review 36:The kids loved the pool.

Review 37:Poor check-in and front desk service & attitude; the outling cabins. Travel to activities

Review 38:Your helpful staff after check in was exceptional, especially conceriage(sp)

Review 39:That the staff failed to tell me it was poisoning snakes in the water I had to found out for myself after seeing the snake in the water.

Review 40:The staff was friendly, the rooms we're clean , housekeeping was on time, the food was great. It was a great environment I love it and wouldn't mind going back.

Review 41:The resort is going through a renovation. Some of the rooms are in rough condition and should not be used. While it does take time to renovate a huge resort like this part of it are very old and very outdated.

Review 42:Overall there is a lot to do and everything is in close distance. Was very happy with management who took care of a problem we had and handled it with complete professionalism and kindness.

Review 43:We've always stayed in the Resort, this time we stayed in the Estates. The room was clean, and refreshed each day. The deck and sliding door could have been cleaner. Would have made going outside of an evening or day more enticing. Several units, if not all, are property owners, which wasn't a problem for us. Our only complaint, was our access to the water and Resort. We used Tan Tara's ramp each day as usual. However, being located on the other side of the resort, parking the ski, eating and going up to the room wasn't a real option. We were a hike from the marina. We would prefer the main resort over the Estates. Nothing wrong with the estates, just not the best option for us.

Review 44:Tan Tara has always been clean and friendly. Our rooms have been large and comfortable. For us, Tan Tara is located in between all of our friends and why we've chosen to stay here. Access to the water is a definite plus. We always bring down our jet ski.

Review 45:My husband had to kill many spiders in the room before I felt comfortable. Granted, we are right on the lake, but the spiders were everywhere including in the halls.

Review 46:The front desk staff were very helpful with our last minute reservation.

Review 47:Your parking in the C section was horrible especialy went you got back later on in the evening.

Review 48:The room was excellent size with a great view of the lake, but, the bathtub and sink drains were slow running due to being clogged up.

Review 49:The property feels a bit dated, but I know that they are working on renovations in the buildings. Restaurant needs an update and does not need a bear theme.

Review 50:Tan Tar A is a great getaway for families! Everything is on property and your kids have so many activities to pick from: excellent outdoor pool, mini golf, golf cart rides, indoor water park and much more.

Review 51:The overall cleanliness of the rooms was poor it appeared that they needed more staff. More time needed to be spent cleaning and the rooms smelt musty and it looked like white mold on the AC unit. Not all the hallways had air. There was not always help at the put put golf where you also rented golf carts there would be a sign to go to the fitness center and then a sign would be there that attendant was in the arcade. It was like this at a lot of the areas. Also would booked rooms in one building and ended up in another building and they did offer to honor what we booked. It was outdated in some areas which could have easily been improved with some paint and cleaning. Instead of signs all over saying pardon the mess we are innovating.

Review 52:It was nice to be close to the water with all the activities they offer

Review 53:We had called front desk several times to get a first floor because of issue with grandparent. When we arrived, we did NOT get first floor and no apology.

Review 54:You needed to "rent" a microwave for $10 day. Most hotels include them.

Review 55:Great room. Nice balcony with a view of the lake. Close to the second pool. Restaurants on site. Indoor pool, jacuzzi, exercise room, water park. You really don't need to leave if you don't want to. We'll stay there again!

Review 56:I just had knee surgery and getting from place to place was very difficult.

Review 57:There was so much for all of us to do. We traveled with 6 adults and 2 children, everyone found something they enjoyed.b

Review 58:The balcony was infested by spiders alot webs as well which made it impossible to enjoy the balcony and view and had alot of bird poop on the balcony and furniture...would be nice to have a complimentary breakfast

Review 59:Everything else was excellent. .. food and drinks are expensive

Review 60:It is self serve. You check in and good luck to you after that, no one helps with bags or anything else...just head that direction. The air conditioning was pre-set we couldn't change it. The water park was too expensive for what it really is, just not that great. The lack of elevators or escalators in a hotel built on a hill is crazy. It is not customer friendly at all. The staff in the pizza and burger king restaurants were shady and the restaurants were dirty.

Review 61:Loved the man at the coffee shop in the lobby, that is customer service. The pools were good. The Black Bear restaurant was wonderful. Great staff and good food.

Review 62:It was very hot out, wish the pool stayed open later because we swam at night to beat the heat of laying near the pool (100 degree humidity) also you need a boating license for jet skis rental or run the risk of 250 dollar ticket, we took the chance and did not get pulled over thankfully :)

Review 63:Loved the atmosphere! Lots and lots to do, also great location, gas station right across the street frI'm entrance, 5 minutes from dogs days Inn (fun bar) and there was also a bar in the hotel.

Review 64:The resort is run down and not very clean! There was a lot of debris in the pools, trash throughout the area, cracking/chipping paint, not the most friendliest people, and lack of parking.

Review 65:Like the variety of activities offered.

Review 66:Dining experiences left something to be desired. Resort could use a couple more dining options.

Review 67:Room and view were excellent. Really enjoyed the Jetty Bar at the pool.

Review 68:Room a-c unit turns off and on all night; start-up is so loud it wakes you up. On public property at resort, cigarette butts on ground depressing. Bldg rails, doors, etc. need paint touch-ups in many places. Odd restaurant hours.

Review 69:Spectacular lake view; friendly staff; helpful, responsive staff.

Review 70:ThiS PART could be alot on my part, location of room by this infested lake. BUGS,SPIDERS & FLIES kept coming in room. The room sheets & comforter looked old, the room stunk, bathroom toilet couldn't been cleaned in years. It was dirt all around the inside of toilet. Now main issue when checking in staff never mentioned anything about parking when we got to our room. We get to room put bags up, came out to enjoy day, there was a paper plate on my BRAND NEW CAR. This letter telling me I NEED TO MOVE THIS IS FOR ESTATE OWNERS...First of all there was NO RESERVE PARKING AT ALL. So we went to frontdesk to find about parking, they state no reserved parking, you could park anywhere. So security was called because I was truly upset about this paper plate put on my car. Security comes to escort us back to room to show us where to park & we back and the other BLACK FAMILY had paper plates on their on car as well.. But the white couple didnt have anything on theirs. I find that very interesting in itself. So Joel security told us where to park. Which he was very nice by the way.Lastly no light outside at night where we had to park. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOUR RESORT.

Review 71:I love the pool area.

Review 72:Room arranged funny--no place to watch tv but from a bed-sofa in an odd place as if arranged for a two bed room.

Review 73:The Sunset Point Location was great for a wedding and staff was terrific, competent and accommodating.

Review 74:the A/C unit was not adjustable or would not get any cooler than what it was. very uncomfortable sleeping.

Review 75:the location was excellent, close to everything!

Review 76:We stayed in a lakeside unit. It was in poor repair. Iur phone line was broken, and needed repair. The unit needs maintenance throughout. It is old and outdated, withe painting needed on the walls. Putty had been applied, with no painting done. The carpet needs to be replaced. You need cable TV badly. The microwave was so small you Colby couldn't adequately pop a bag of popcorn. The "full kitchen was in reality a kitchenette. Totally disappointed in the"upgrade" this was supposed to be. I would not recommend these units. The location was nice, that's about it.

Review 77:Staff was very nice, and helpful. They did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable.

Review 78:It would be nice to have an outside bar to sit and relax at after the jetty bar closed down. I was also not impressed the bartender on Friday night at mr d's

Review 79:We were out of the way of the hustle and bustle

Review 80:Indoor waterpark is just for kids. Suite need updated. Faster check in prosses and if 25people don't call for boat ride they don't go out. So therse really nothing to do but eat and the pizza place doesn't open till 5pm.

Review 81:Bear lounge great breackfast Buffett. At dinner try the half chicken with gravy.

Review 82:Our room was tucked behind Burger King that wasn't horrible the privacy was nice however the view was horrible. Also we were next to a conference hospitality room that became very crowded and loud during our secind night...kept us in our room.

Review 83:I would definitely stay here again. When comparing this resort I can only compare it to our stays in Cancun. Mexico resorts are cleaner with more aabundant staff tending to the entire resort. However the staff at Tan tar a were equally as friendly. It is pretty expensive and an all inclusive option would be awesome especially for families. I wish I would have known about this resort when my children were smaller. Nice family friendly place close to home. The breakfast buffet and supper at Windrose were excellent.

Review 84:The room had a smell. The bathroom was small and put dated.

Review 85:The place is a little out dated. Needs some work in the rooms. The staff was very helpful. If you had kids lots of stuff to do

Review 86:I reserved ahead of time a King or Queen bed and was told it was first come first serve. Why have that option during making a reservation if it's not an option anyway. Rooms were not available on time. We were told you were "short-staffed". Ordered the express breakfast and requested delivery at 6:15. Had to call at 6:50 with a reminder and again we were told you were "short staffed" The breakfast was cold and I was late for my meeting. For the price of the room which was $105 per night, and the reputation of Tan-Tar-a, I feel the service could have been better.

Review 87:The location and scenery were outstanding. The way the staff handled the catering for our banquet was perfect.

Review 88:I stayed in the estates to avoid the noise since there was a lot of young kids at the main hotel. The people above me had several young children that sounded like they were coming through the ceiling. The noise above me was unbearable; management did give me a refund for one night.

Review 89:When we first checked in, our room had ants in the bathroom. Not unusual for this time of year. The staff immediately ;moved us into an upgraded room and sent a nice your man, Zachary, to help us move to the new room.

Review 90:A/c was broken. Didn't offer a different room. Held over 1000 on my credit card because person checking us in was new and didn't know what she was doing.

Review 91:We are an older couple and they put us in a room that had many, many steps to get to the room - then they moved us to a building that we could go from a garage - to an elevator that went to our floor and get to our room easily - that was much better...

Review 92:Beautiful views and many memories...

Review 93:I liked everything. The decor in the rooms is very 70's, but it didn't bother me a bit.

Review 94:The bed was comfy, the breakfast buffet at the Black Bear Lodge was delicious, free wifi was great, and the indoor waterpark was awesome. We went too early in the season for the outdoor pools to be open.

Review 95:Construction in garage was a bit loud in morning but we were up anyway

Review 96:Loved all of it .Desk clerk at arrival (RYAN) was a pleasure to deal with and remembered me from Jan. Visit. Nice!!

Review 97:The property is showing its age and is dated. It is well maintained but needs a modern update to the interior.

Review 98:The views of the lake were wonderful. The property has nice amenities.

Review 99:The only thing I didn't like was that we had to pay to go in the water park, and that the fast food closed early we where hungry around 9-10 wanted to grab a bite but all was closed

Review 100:I loved how it has everything in one spot, and the view is a killer, it's a good size room ur family won't feel squashed,When I come back to the ozark I wouldn't take any othe hotel, this is the one

Review 101:Suite not yet renovated, parking can be tricky at night

Review 102:Large resort, safe and clean. Lakeview suite (next time will ask for lower level to open desk or patio)

Review 103:Nothing...we will be back

Review 104:The room was wonderful. Direct view of the water off 7th flr was beautiful, restaurant staff at Blackbear was fast, and friendly, loved the fact parking is covered since it was ice and snow outside!

Review 105:We booked this Hotel/Spa for a weekend getaway. The room was amazing and the beds were super comfy. There was plenty to do on site even for it being winter. I cant say anything bad. We are going back in the spring, this place exceeded my expectations. You CANNOT find any place within a few hours of us even in Kansas City that can compete for the price and things to do!!!LOVE THIS PLACE!!

Review 106:Given the reviews and what I had heard about the resort, I was a little skeptical of what we might find upon arrival. However, we had a blast and I thought the facilities were just fine. For what we paid for and the level of service we received, I thought this was a great deal. The hotel room was super clean, contemporary bedding and layout. While some things are out-dated, it's way better than I thought.

Review 107:Room was dirty. Bed spread had blood on it. Tub dirty. Carpet not vacuumed. Coffee pot dirty. Room was dusty. Nice product; housekeeping severely lacking

Review 108:The resort is nicely updated. We had car trouble when we arrived and the staff called several businesses in trying to find out if they we're open of they could assist in looking at our truck. One staff member took tools from her trunk in order for us to use.

Review 109:Didn't care for buffet at the restaurant But service was excellent

Review 110:The room was great with great view. Indoor pool was fun with grandson Would have like a sauna.

Review 111:For money they charge I think could updated the outside rooms and deck. Our room door open from outside, there was musty odor we had buy febreze spray everywhere in order kill the smell.

Review 112:Tan-Tar-A Resort is a wonderful place for anyone looking for a quite to rest or great place families enjoy weeks at time. Lot activities for adults and kids, places to hike, just lots of stuff

Review 113:The beds were very uncomfortable and the rooms smelled very, very stale!

Review 114:The options! Indoor and outdoor activities for all weather! Great entertainment at the pool, fun arcade and indoor waterpark.

Review 115:Old carpeted floors with stains and was just plain old and smelly. You could hear every crook and cranny of the neighbors upstairs. Could not sleep, too noisy.

Review 116:Prime rib buffet was horrible and wave runners were double the cost of anywhere else on the lake.

Review 117:Location, room size, amenities, plenty of fun things to do on the resort.

Review 118:We were for in town for the 2014 Shootout. The resort was packed. We did not like that there was no rooms assigned parking spots. We got back to the resort at 2am and there were no parking spots for large trucks. We got up in the morning and found a warning ticket on the windshield because we did not use a authorized parking spot. We even stopped in and let the lady know at the desk where we were parked. Other than the parking fiasco the trip and resort was amazing!!!

Review 119:Everything was amazing!! We WILL be back!!!

Review 120:There are lots of stairs but the exercise didn't hurte any

Review 121:I love the older resort, well maintained, clean. A lot better than most brick and glass franchises I have stayed at and a lot more fun with lots to do on site.

Review 122:Our room was in need of remodeling... Especially the bathroom. The furniture was old & outdated. But I think the price we paid reflected that... Reasonable for what we got.

Review 123:Beds were small and uncomfortable Parking locations are too far away for older adults with leg and back issues

Review 124:The resort was quite peaceful and enjoyable, with lots to offer Fitness center was one of the best I've come across at a resort or hotel

Review 125:Ants every morning crawling on the desk. Bed and Pillow too soft. The view was horrible, could only look at a brick wall. I strongly recommend not getting a room on the bottom floor.

Review 126:Great Location entertaining for the kids

Review 127:The Wi-Fi was spotty.

Review 128:I loved the swimming pool. The boat ride on the Tropic Cruse was awesome. The bowling alley was fun. The putt-putt was fun. The food was exceptional.

Review 129:Strong ammonia or other odor in our rooms.

Review 130:Liked the layout of the rooms, liked the variety and availability of activities that were available at the resort, staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 131:I didn't like the fact that the web site was vague and didn't specify that the water park, horse rides, golf and all other amenities cost an extra amount. And way overpriced at that. I would rather spend less money and actually get a continental breakfast.

Review 132:I liked all the options for activities.

Review 133:The bartender in lobby was very slow. The resort isn't user friendly as far as parking goes. Too spread out and too far away from mall area and bars! Beer was expensive and taxed on top of that.

Review 134:Room was comfortable

Review 135:Was not informed at check-in of a $50 charge for the room that would be returned at check-out, this was just automatically taken out of the account. The resort is not adequately labelled and easy to get lost and difficult to find room. Would be easier if buildings were labelled.

Review 136:Checking in at the front desk, the staff were very nice and friendly. The bed was very comfortable.

Review 137:We went up for a small wedding for close friends, upon arrival I realized that because I booked online I was paying significantly more than the rest of the group, I figured since I was paying more, the ruin would be nice and week with the money. When we arrived to our room we discovered a small single bed room that was the smallest of the group. I overlooked this because I was there for friends. Later that night we had security called on us for being too loud at 10:30 because the paper thin walls allowed the entire floor to hear us hanging out. In the morning I was woken up by someone bouncing a ball in the ruin above us at 8:30, when I called the front desk to get them to stop I was told "they are checking out today, so you won't have to worry about them." The problem is those people didn't check out till 11 so for another two and a half hours all I heard was the ball bouncing and the resort doing nothing about it. Everything from the moment we checked in, 20 people waiting to check in with with 2 people at the desk. To the wedding, the resort appointed wedding planner didn't meet with the wedding party till 2 hours before the ceremony so we had no idea what was going on. To checking out, again a line out the door with people waiting to check in and out. Every thing was disappointing. The only good thing was I was with good friends.

Review 138:Staff was nice for the most part. The place was clean.
