Reviews for Downtown Duluth Motel
Review 1:Beds were uncomfortable to hard and the dial for the shower were up to high
Review 2:70 dollars for that room would be quite a better price. Staff and breakfast were amazing
Review 3:The heater was loud. I could hear talking/voices all night because the walls were too thin so I hardly slept. The bed was too hard. I also had mold in my shower and it made my throat hurt after one hot shower.
Review 4:I did love how close this motel was to dt Duluth and the cable was nice.
Review 5:It was either too hot or too cool with the heater running; although, not a big issue
Review 6:I've stayed at this motel periodically since the 1980's. I've always enjoyed the friendliness of the front desk staff; breakfast; and the location for my needs is fantastic. I'll stay again many times over.
Review 7:Parking lot
Review 8:The man who worked when we checked in and checked out was amazing!!!!! He was so helpful and friendly!!! Would go back just because of him!
Review 9:There were wine(?) stains all over the bathroom. The shower curtain was dirty. And our coffee maker didn't work.
Review 10:The bed and pillows were comfy. Downtown shops and pubs were within walking distance.
Review 11:There was no info on local amenities. No pen or paper for writing or making notes. No tv/cable guide in room.
Review 12:Easy access in and out. Breakfast was good with a lot of variety.
Review 13:Paper-thin walls, poor (slow and unreliable) Internet connection, somewhat seedy neighborhood (at least when it gets darker), limited breakfast because they were out of some things (e.g. milk!)
Review 14:Close proximity to Lake Superior, breakfast included
Review 15:There is no heat in the rooms. The temperature can be turned up on the cooling unit so it no longer blows cold air, but I couldn't find any way to make it blow warm air. It was a chilly evening, so I climbed into the bed to warm up and didn't get much relief. There was only one thin blanket on the bed and the bed cover was not heavy enough to provide any warmth. I ended up sleeping in my clothes. A place like Duluth, in the winter, is going to require some type of heating unit.
Review 16:The price was one of the better ones that I found online. It is close to everything too, that is a bonus.
Review 17:We came to Duluth for sightseeing and relaxation. The staff are super friendly, and they are very attentive and helpful with everyone . Service was excellent .Specially Dan is very nice and friendly to us the first time been in Duluth motel . He willing to exchanged our up stair room to down stair because my knee pain. Our room was very nice enjoyed our stay , Breakfast at the hotel was pretty good and the parking was free also. Hotel was in a great location, within walking distance to Canal Park and to the downtown locations we wanted to visit. We would come back to this hotel again.
Review 18:Dan was very friendly/courteous and the housekeeper (I didn't get her name) demonstrated excellent customer service by getting our room ready about 2 1/2 hours before the standard check-in time.
Review 19:I read reviews about booking 2 rooms and only getting one, that's what happened to us. The desk clerk did eventually get us another room
Review 20:The staff tried to be very accommodating
Review 21:Main parking lot is on an extremely steep hill. Not the nicest neighborhood.
Review 22:Blocks away from good bars and restaurants. Friendly staff. Competitive prices.
Review 23:No separate hair conditioner, no fridge, no microwave, channel changer on remote could only go 1 direction, parking spaces on steep hill
Review 24:Clean room, very comfy bed, air conditioner wasn't too loud, good water pressure in shower, nice decor, reasonably priced, and we were given discount coupons when we checked out
Review 25:No concerns
Review 26:After reading other reviews we were a bit concerned. But much to our surprise the room and staff were above much better than average. Thanks for a wonder stay.
Review 27:The toilet was not clean upon our arrival (although staff was quick to remedy this), the morning breakfast was little more than sugary junk food, and the beds were very uncomfortable (including the 3 small pillows which were substituted for the standard sized ones).
Review 28:I liked the location and view of the lake.
Review 29:its a great value if your not planning on being at the hotel often . the breakfast isnt worth it . theres no places to sit outside . it would be nice to have benches or a chair outside the room for smokers or just to sit outside . parking is aweful always packed and on a hill .the drawer on the dresser was broken and the bathroom door wouldnt close and no exhaust fan . stains on the carpet ..
Review 30:its at a great location , walking distance to canal park .the price isnt to bad if you wanna stay away from motel 8 , pretty quiet at night .
Review 31:Low on food on a Sunday well before breakfast was over; someone parked where there wasn't a spot so everyone had to back out of the lot downhill; pillows not good; expensive for a motel
Review 32:Great location-walking distance to Canal Park- and clean room and decent shower-flowers added charm outside
Review 33:Dan at the front desk was the friendliest and most helpful front desk person I have ever met. He made me feel very welcome. The location was very convenient and easy to get to. I had only one occasion to meet the evening/night lobby people and they were friendly as well.
Review 34:no option of opening windows in the second floor room, had to leave the fan running to avoid musty smell.
Review 35:great location, we parked at hotel and walked to tourist attractions in Canal Park and along the lake front trail.
Review 36:Wifi did not work for me not a big deal. I would like to see a small fridge in the room too, but cleanliness is a priority which you guys did well on
Review 37:The room was very clean and comfortable
Review 38:The free breakfast did not have a vast selection, but cannot complain too much since it was free.
Review 39:Price was very reasonable, especially for staying in downtown Duluth and the fact competing hotels in the area were more expensive but were about the same appearance wise.
Review 40:The ceiling in the bathroom could have used a fresh coat of paint as you could see some water stains but keep in mind it is an older hotel
Review 41:Although the hotel was a bit older the room was extremely clean the carpet looks great the beds were comfortable the bathroom is very clean as well. I was very pleased
Review 42:I hated the hill parking!! And the. Construction going on right next to the place. Also prices were very high but I understand the reasoning
Review 43:The general manager was the only nice stuff I actually came across.
Review 44:No wi fi in my room
Review 45:Your front desk staff. Dan has excellent customer service skills, keep him for ever! His cheerfulness and eagerness to help keeps people coming back. I don't remember the name of the staff in an earlier stay at your hotel, but he was also nice.
Review 46:There is free breakfast, but it might go quickly if there are many guests. It's simple, but there is coffee, cereal, pastries, fresh fruit, juice, tea, and a few other items.
Review 47:The room is simple, clean, and spacious. Good parking available, and nice location in the middle of town.
Review 48:It was $200 a night for a dinky motel. I am okay with staying at a dinky motel to save money versus spending a ton on some fancy hotel, especially when I knew we would not spend very much time at our hotel anyway... But I do not think that this place should have been priced anywhere over $100.00 a night, even with it's close proximity to the canal park area.
Review 49:Close proximity/walking distance to canal park and other great restaurants and such. Free breakfast helped, but still didn't seem worth the overall cost.
Review 50:Built into the hillside, so parking can be tricky. Old building and rooms. Our room was minimally cleaned-- hair on the sheets from previous guests, soap still stuck in the drain. I didn't feel comfortable letting my kids play on the floor. Styrofoam cups in the room were not wrapped in plastic, so unsure how many people handled them prior. I went to get ice and the interior hall carpet was dirty and unvacuumed. Breakfast was super basic continental style-- no eggs etc. No covers for the take away coffee cups. The one positive thing was the only employee- he was friendly during check in/out and when I requested new sheets.
Review 51:Convenient location to downtown.
Review 52:Happy to have a fridge but it was a beater.
Review 53:Having breakfast included is always good for us. Just enough to tie us over until lunch. Was not gourmet breakfast but definitely filled our tummies.
Review 54:Parking is scary. Lot is very steep slope and car doors can swing open with force and damage next car. Upper lot is much better.
Review 55:Staff and breakfast were wonderful. Quiet room. Motel is dated but clean.
Review 56:Hallways smelled. Room smelled. Door did not seal to frame!! Ceiling looks like it fell in not long ago. Floors uneven. Tile on bath floor had sharp, exposed edges. Drapes did not shut out all light. Paper coffee cups were not wrapped and were rim-down on lavatory and coffee tray=>SCARY! A/C ran on highest 24x7 but room never cool enough for <80°days. Parking lot is VERY steeply sloped.
Review 57:Location.
Review 58:It's an outdated motel. There was ehat appeared to be mold in the shower ceiling and a musty old odor in the actual room. For the price we paid (almost $400 for 2 nights) it was not a great experience.
Review 59:It was clean and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 60:Getting clean towels for our room was like pulling teeth from another desk person. Parking left something to be desired.
Review 61:Room was clean. Small quarters, but fine for price. Dan at front desk was very nice and always helpful.
Review 62:Hilly location of motel and the many step interior sections layout of the hallways challenge mobility access.
Review 63:Very good value. Downtown location handy to water front and many points of interest.
Review 64:The room was filthy. Crumbs on end tables & table, dirt and crumbs on floor, the hugest clump of slimy hair on the bathtub drain... I am an optimistic person but this was disappointingly gross. :(
Review 65:Location
Review 66:The heater in the room kept turning on and off at night. I could sleep with it on, but the noise level when it would shut off and turn back on was enough to always wake me up. I ended up turning it to fan only mode, so I could get some sleep. The blankets/bedding are very thin and not warm. I had to take the blankets off the second bed and put them on my bed to keep warm.
Review 67:The staff were very friendly. The grounds and rooms are clean. The atmosphere is welcoming and rooms are mostly updated.
Review 68:The desk clerk was very nice. He suggested a couple of restaurants when we told him what type we were looking for. He gave good directions to get there.
Review 69:This was my first motel experience and it was very impressive. The room was very clean and smelled clean like beach. Dan, the staff was awesome. The breakfast was more than I expected. Fresh pastries. I booked another room during the summertime. I like that they take a reservation but don't take your money til you check out.. and there is no cancellation fee and you can cancel the day of too!!!!
Review 70:The beds were full-size instead of queen, which was not a big deal, but unexpected.
Review 71:The location was perfect for our weekend stay; able to walk many places. It was very clean, easy access, and best of all, the staff was helpful, courteous, and friendly.
Review 72:The sheets were dirty (gross), after calling they brought new sheets but we had to make the bed. I would like money back since we did the job. Bed was hard. Bathtub was also dirty and gross.
Review 73:Reserved a roll-a-way. Asked for a roll-a-way when we got there. Never received a roll-a-way.
Review 74:The location close to restaurants and bars. All in walking distance
Review 75:If I could have changed the location just a little more East, that would have been ideal. We were not too far away but still had to drive. The weather was also disappointing but an okay location.
Review 76:I loved the price and the room in general. Very cozy, comfortable, and clean. We both had a great night's sleep!
Review 77:Had an excellent stay - only blocks away from Canal area - shops, restaurants. Will choose this motel on my next trip too! Tall people - my room had a shower head about 7' up - loved it!
Review 78:Although the bed was comfortable, I couldn't sleep because it was so cold. No thermostat in room and front desk said they didn't have extra blankets. Bathtub was dirty and ice bucket had dust and hair in it. Gentleman at front desk was very kind and helped carry my bags.
Review 79:It was very close to Canal Park. Within walking distance if weather is nice.
Review 80:Limited view. But would book again.
Review 81:Liked the private entrance to room, not having to go through a lobby coming/going. Location was pretty central to what we we like to do.
Review 82:Our car was hit and run by another vehicle in the parking lot anddespite surveillance cameras and a log of who stayed there (along withvehicle logs) we were told there was not enough information to help theinvestigation. It smelled of a huge coverup. My pictures prove the exactparking spot where the vehicle that hit us originated. In the light ofday, we realized we were in a bad part of town, with people we could nottrust. Stay away from this place!! The price is not worth the risk ofstaying here.
Review 83:Initially the price attracted us as it was late at night, and we weretired. What a huge mistake. Do not be lured in by the price.
Review 84:It was convenient and very inexpensive. Great downtown location. We had an early hospital appointment for my son so we needed a place to stay that wasn't too expensive.
Review 85:The only issue was we found a dirty was cloth kind of wrapped up in the shower curtain, but the staff gave us a discount on our room.
Review 86:I loved how close we were to Canal Park.
Review 87:There was a loud fan-type noise coming from another room that did not stop the entire night. Sleeping was difficult.
Review 88:General manager was very nice and accommodating.
Review 89:We didn't have anything bad.
Review 90:We liked that for the money, that breakfast was included. It was quiet. It was within walking distance to canal park.
Review 91:The bathroom was very cold. Felt as though there was no heat in it. The room was small. The breakfast was slim pickings. Not much to chose from and not much room to sit. The price is very high compared to what you get.
Review 92:Needed a place to stay for a funeral. That's all it was.
Review 93:The rooms window heating/cooling system was in sever need of replacement. It sounded like a car starting in the dead of winter every 10 minute which made sleeping impossible. The facilities was capacity so we were stuck with it.
Review 94:Clean comfortable beds
Review 95:The door on our room was damaged. It looked like someone had broke into at one time. There are very few parking spots. We had to park in the back lot. We woke up in the morning to find my right front bumper cracked from someone backing into it. Of course there are no cameras in the area. I suggest spending the extra money for a pleasurable experience!
Review 96:This motel was perfect for our weekend in Duluth! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but our room was clean, WiFi was fast, and bed was very comfortable. The room was small but cozy and free breakfast was a plus. This is the perfect place to stay while sightseeing in Duluth, located right in the downtown area.
Review 97:There was no body to check me in, didn't see a staff person for 10 minutes. Then they locked me out of the room because they entered is under the wrong name. Breakfast was awful, kept blowing a fuse. Never again
Review 98:I liked that we had 2 beds and were downtown.
Review 99:Noisy heater - I woke up every time it came on (Room 227) Unfriendly (crabby) staff on Sunday a.m. checkout. Kind of shabby!
Review 100:Price and availability on short notice.
Review 101:Questionable stain on bed skirt. Breakfast is done really early. (9:30 am). Lady upon checkout was very rude. Jan 18th AM.
Review 102:Location. Close to skyway to Canal Park. Room was a bit updated. Check-in lady was polite. Jan 17th PM.
Review 103:The room smelled terribly of smoke the whole weekend. My girlfriend and I went to inquire about why a non smoking room smelled so bad. The lady at the front desk said there wasn't anything she could do about it, did not offer a discount or offer to give us another room. Also, the sheets were dirty when we got there.
Review 104:It was really close to Canal Park and and the price was unbeatable at $64.99 per night.
Review 105:Listening to the washer go around late into night, also the door to their room slammed every time they went through it. Fruit for breakfast (all) was un edible . Not fresh looking.
Review 106:Clean, nice staff.
Review 107:Building is on a slope and so there are terraced stairs on the second floor. Was a chore getting luggage up.
Review 108:Room was already warm (was freezing outside), comfortable bed, very tasteful and up to date room (above standards for a motel). Breakfast was a pretty limited variety of items but what they had was good and I was able to have a filling meal.
Review 109:the place is old and needs updates. employees should look more polished/professional.
Review 110:cheapest motel/hotel we could find in the Duluth area for this particular weekend...$139.99
Review 111:Tiny coffin-like shower Ownership allowed teens to loiter in and around the facility. One boy was wandering around while carrying a hookah and beer. He was also spotted inside one of the buildings that day. Another group of teens sat in an idling car in the guest lot cursing for over 1.5 hours. They seemed to have access to the building as well. More should be done about these things to make a more guest-friendly environment
Review 112:Close to City Center Quiet Rooms Good nights sleep Friendly staff, but away from desk for 15 min upon arrival The price is right, but we found little advantage to being so close to city center as most places we ended up driving to anyways.
Review 113:If you were out at walking at night, there where a few small bars in the area that felt a little uncomfortable passing with people gathered in front. We had no problems and could avoid these areas if nessesary. No pool or exercise area if that's what your looking for. It would of been a nice option. Just a little over priced for the amenities provided and type of hotel that it was.
Review 114:The location was good with many attractions and restaraunts within a reasonable walking distance without being an overly busy and crowded. The breakfast was sufficient with a few choices to get going in the morning as long as you went when it was quiet. Good for shopping and taking in nearby attractions. It was clean and neat and our room was big enough for 2 people. It was a good hotel if you were spending time away doing other things.
Review 115:I am not very picky but the room had a stale moldy smell. Got used to the smell after being in the room but every time I returned to the room I could smell it.
Review 116:Got the room for an ok price.
Review 117:My teammate and I were competing in the inline marathon. We requested and received a late checkout which allowed us to shower after 90 minutes of racing. I've stayed in other hotels which did not allow us such a courtesy. It is greatly appreciated.
Review 118:Room smelled very damp and musty. Bathroom door seemed warped and it wouldn't shut all the way. Big stain on carpet as soon as you enter the room. Person checking us in was very nice but saw that she was smoking as she came out of one of the rooms.
Review 119:dead bolt on the door didn't work and it appeared that some person or persons had at one time tried to open the door using a screwdriver rather than a key. Only outlet in the bathroom was on the wall next to the toilet with no counter on which to place electric toothbrush while charging (except top of toilet tank!) Parking lot is small and slanted a great deal - winter parking and walking will be treacherous!!! even unloading in summer can result in runaway suitcases if they're on wheels.
Review 120:beds were comfortable, room was clean
Review 121:The room was run down , needs some updating.
Review 122:The location was good, and the staff was friendly.
Review 123:the rooms need to be updated, paint peeling in bathroom and heater was loud.
Review 124:hole in bathroom door, bathtub missing drain cover so I couldn't take a bath
Review 125:Seemed to be clean and it was quiet.
Review 126:Very nice quiet. Comfortable beds.
Review 127:Close to downtown. Free parking and WiFi.
Review 128:Very close to downtown. Room was recently remodeled and looks nice. Bed was very comfortable.
Review 129:A/c makes lot of noise.
Review 130:Location was great and friendly staff.
Review 131:The noise level was quite high.
Review 132:Staff were friendly and helpful about the area.Breakfast was good.
Review 133:The staff was very accommodating. Great value, clean. Really great breakfast. The location.
