Reviews for Best Western Plus Spirit Mountain Duluth
Review 1:Check out was slow
Review 2:Staff was very helpful, breakfast was godd but small room for so many people. Close to dt Duluth. Room were clean, beds were very comfortable
Review 3:The breakfast staff couldn't keep up the volume of people. There wasn't enough food to handle the volume of people and wah was out was cold.
Review 4:The room was very clean and comfortable.
Review 5:Noisy in-room air-conditioner, dirty walls and furniture, especially in rest area. We had some black lines on the wall and stains on refrigerator door. Some wall problems (holes or stains - we don't know) was fixed by plastic boards.
Review 6:Perfect location, close to Spirit Mountain ski resort. Ability to purchase discounted lift tickets. Breakfast was good, but similar every day. Friendly staff. Swimming pool.
Review 7:One of the noisiest hotels I have ever been to, it was difficult to sleep the first night, but that may have been more guest related than hotel related. Also the pool had WAY too much chlorine, it burned our eyes just to be in the pool area.
Review 8:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was nice and comfortable.
Review 9:Took a very long time for hot water to arrive to bathroom, sink very slow to drain. Only one entrance and not well defined. I forgot to ask about medical or AARP discounts (my fault!)
Review 10:Proximity to Duluth but not in the city
Review 11:I didn't like that the other guests would allow their children to run up and down the halls and that the staff didn't say anything. I also didn't like that the "cafeteria" was so small that it was a disaster trying to get breakfast. I was also told by a staff member 2 days prior to my stay that the room was already paid for but when we arrived at the hotel, we were told it wasn't and had to pay on the spot. I also had reserved a room online with a king size bed only to arrive and told they don't have king size beds and so we were given a room with 2 queen size beds for 2 people.
Review 12:I liked that the hotel provided shuttle service to Duluth's Canal Park. It made our sight-seeing more enjoyable without the stress of figuring out directions, parking, getting lost, etc.
Review 13:There was never any parking space is available when we stayed there they don't have enough parking and also they need to change up their breakfast also make a lil bit more variety and better customerservice. Also Minnesota nice would be nice
Review 14:Staff was unfriendly. Pool was FREEZING!! My kids couldn't even swim-that's the reason they love coming to hotels. The whirlpool in our room had hair stuck in all the jets. Yuck!!!!!
Review 15:Breakfast was good.
Review 16:There were dead bugs all over our room.
Review 17:We liked that there wasn't many children there, so we mostly had the pool to ourselves, but the pool was freezing. Way colder than it should've been.
Review 18:It was noisy by the highway. Th facility needs to be upgraded. For the money I would have expected nicer facilities.
Review 19:The breakfast was good and well tended. The hotel was clean.
Review 20:Breakfast seemed rather disorganized and crowded. The first room we were given hadn't been made up and they had to switch our room (which they did do, right away).
Review 21:Staff were very friendly. One even called a local restaurant to get us a discount on dinner when she couldn't locate a discount coupon.
Review 22:I didn't think the room we had was worth the price. The bed was uncomfortable so we didn't get much sleep and the hot tub we had was falling apart but it worked.
Review 23:The staff was super friendly and made my wife and I very welcome. I also loved the continental breakfast, great selection and nice and hot something you don't always get at some hotels.
Review 24:Not very good customer service. They weren't very cheerful. Thought it was really weird that I got my receipt underneath my door on my last night there. The pillows were fluffy but after that they go flat. I would recommend to bring your own pillow. Bed was OK but the best
Review 25:Rooms
Review 26:Not in town, but okay for us since we were on the motorcycles and just looking to ride around.
Review 27:Such a great deal! Free and expansive breakfast, super comfortable beds, and good parking.
Review 28:Upon checking in we were not informed that they would be charging us a $100 deposit on our debit card.
Review 29:We have stayed here before and was very happy with the location and accommodations.
Review 30:It was a convenient location to the Munger Trail, Jay Cooke State park, and Canal Park. Shuttle to Canal Park Friday and Saturday night. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 31:breakfast was ok just so many people so it was hard to navigate and impossible to get a table so took food to room
Review 32:Location and the king suite was very comfortable
Review 33:Unfriendly desk staff, noisy, the pool was dirty (major floaters including a used bandaid), did I say noisy? Right next to a gas station so we heard car engines all night.
Review 34:It suited our schedule and needs.
Review 35:The bed pillows.
Review 36:Loved the jacuzzi tub in our room, although it was noisy when our neighbors used theirs and vice versa, I'm sure. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 37:Pull out sofa bed was VERY uncomfortable. Main bed was ok but should have been nicer for a king suite price. Limited seating for breakfast option. There was a line waiting for room to sit and eat.
Review 38:Location and room set up was nice. Good housekeeping and nice temp for the pool and hottub.
Review 39:I mean the beds could have been softer but that's being forced to pick something
Review 40:The staff was so kind my daughter has autism and was worrying about how long grandpa had been away and the front desk evening staff came and offered her candy and chips no judgment very kind
Review 41:The breakfast room is very small and was overcrowded as well as very hot. We had no internet over our entire stay. Although the room are quite big everything looks a bit outdated.
Review 42:The only complain was that the breakfast area was too small and not enough room or staff to keep up with the guests.
Review 43:The bed was very comfortable. The room was spacious. I liked that the bed and pullout couch were in separate areas and that there was a t.v. in each area.
Review 44:Check-in (front desk) information was delivered in machine gun fashion by a dispassionate woman who may have been a former marine drill instructor. Noise in our 1st floor room was well above average for all the hotels we stayed in during our week long trip. Bathtub drain ran slow and water pooled in the shower/tub.
Review 45:It was average.
Review 46:there was no food at the breakfast buffet. even the free coffee pots in the hallway were empty. very disappointing. we ended up walking across the parking lot to MacDonald.
Review 47:i like that the room was a non smoking as i requested. the faldy at the reception desk was in training still but she was very friendly, her supervisor on the other hand was not, she made a smart remark about my last name that made me feel unwelcome at your hotel. it was not so much what she said but it was how she said it.
Review 48:We spent the night before across the street where the rate was probably forty dollars less but the beds were uncomfortable and the rooms were not as clean. The staff was also more professional and friendly here.
Review 49:This hotel is a 10 minute drive from Canal Street. So you might not want to stay here if you're going for the night life.
Review 50:The breakfast which came with the room was awesome. It was more than a continental breakfast. You could go to breakfast at the hotel and eat well.
Review 51:The pillows on the bed were half the size of a normal pillow. They were squares instead of rectangles. Luckily I had brought my own pillow, so it didn't bother me. The pop machine on the third floor was only taking coins, so I reported it to the front desk.
Review 52:There are free chocolate chip cookies at the front desk, which I thought was nice. I paid for a room with two queen beds, but they upgraded me for free to a room with a king bed and a living room, which was awesome! It's much more comfortable to watch TV in an armchair than on a bed. The air conditioner looked pretty new, and it had a thermostat so it turned on and off to maintain the temperature. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The view from my room was of Spirit Mountain, so that was pretty. They also had more cable channels than other hotels I've stayed at.
Review 53:Our room was way to close to the train tracks (which contained a passing train sometime around midnight)!
Review 54:Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was comfortable and clean. Good spread for breakfast too.
Review 55:Room could have been dusted more headboards, tv, window needed to have fingerprints and nose marks removed, walls in bathroom need to be painted.
Review 56:Quiet, good location, room comfortable.
Review 57:Breakfast staff was very helpful but Please train your staff more on contamination of GF foods with gluten. Also hot tub is supposed to be for adults after 9pm.
Review 58:GF bread at breakfast was appreciated.
Review 59:The cleanliness of the facility and the efficient staff made our stay very enjoyable! The shuttle to the brewery was convenient and a nice addition to our stay!
Review 60:Staff was kind of rude. And my handle fell off of the door to get in and the front desk ladie expected me to fix it. And smole alarm went off bc of olf battery.
Review 61:It was clean and comfy.
Review 62:This is a great spot to stay if you are skiing at Spirit Mountain, because it is 2 minutes away. Friendly staff, quiet staff, decent breakfast, and free parking. Easier and cheaper than staying downtown. We have stayed here 3 times and will do so again.
Review 63:Beds were a little firm for my taste. Decaf coffee was cold.
Review 64:Very nice hotel. Other guests were quiet. Pool was very nice and water was very warm. Soft towels. Beds had plenty of pillows. We will be staying here again!
Review 65:I didn't like that the walk ways were not all shoveled. They were in fact very iced over and slippery. The hot tub had a lot of sand in it ??? two nights in a row which implies that it wasn't cleaned.
Review 66:I like the fact that the pool was open until midnight. The hot tub was hot. Room was large with a TV viewing area and desk. Bath towels were thick and fresh.
Review 67:Location. The giant blue Holiday sign is slightly... bright at night for that side of the hotel. Up the freeway from Canal Park, but not too inconvenient. (Which makes it reasonably priced.)
Review 68:Awesome hotel and staff! Clean, friendly, and very updated. Good price. Fairly convenient location; it's on the freeway so it's only 10 minutes to Canal Park; though not right on CP (Con.).
Review 69:Loved the size of the rooms. Our location to the front desk and kitchen were great. The whole overall experience and proximity to I35 and Duluth made our stay here extremely enjoyable and will plan to stay here again on our desk visit. Looking forward to getting back to Duluth
Review 70:The Bed was hard as a ROCK and very uncomfortable, I woke up with a stiff neck and back.
Review 71:The Staff were great, The rooms were kept clean and well stocked .
Review 72:Absolutely horrible breakfast, or rather non breakfast. Almost no food out with over one hour to go in breakfast hour. Finally eggs came out and they were cold. Went to a restaurant and bought breakfast. Expensive hotel given what we received.
Review 73:nice rooms, spacious, clean.
Review 74:Asked for QUIET room, they assured me at check in it was. Room 345 is an end unit and all night long we heard the cars driving in and out next to us at Holiday Gas. Also WEAK coffee in rooms. Breakfast was destroyed by 9am so we had to eat someplace else.
Review 75:Nice room, good hot tub, good location, fast check in and room was ready early. VERY friendly staff. We did get put on RR side but never really heard the train.
Review 76:The carpet in our room was very dirty and the trains on the one side of the hotel and the Interstate on the other means you better be able to sleep through the noise. We would not stay here again.
Review 77:The place seemed fairly new and in good shape.
Review 78:The location of the hotel was ideal, easy access from the interstate. The desk staff was very courteous and assisted us in directions to the wedding venue. The room was immaculate and the breakfast quite complete. A comfortable stay!
Review 79:A drawback was the location...we'd hoped for something closer in to Duluth's canal park area. My only other complaint would be the comp breakfast wasn't replenished often enough.
Review 80:For starters, we arrived in town earlier than expected, so called to see if we could possible check-in sooner than the 3pm time...the staff was VERY accommodating and let us check-in 2 hours early. I was pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to our room and discovered it was a King Suite, which I didn't realize when I booked the room. Spacious and clean! The pool was not over run with splashing kids, as is usually the case, anywhere, when you stay over a weekend. As we were leaving, I was already trying to think of another reason to visit the area, so we could stay there again!!
Review 81:The fire alarm went off at 3 in the morning nothing was said over a speaker to let us know if we needed to evacuate or stay put. It took awhile for the hot water to get warm enough to take a shower. The person who checked us in was not very friendly.
Review 82:The location was easy to get on and off the highway. I thought the breakfast was adequate. Right next to a gas station and a McDonald's so you didn't have to go to far for an easy meal.
Review 83:We arrived late at night, no restaurants close by except for a REALLY bad McDonalds. I was unaware McDs could be so rotten!!!! Due to its lack of closeness to other businesses I probably would not stay here again. It was really out of the way to get to. I feel bad because the staff try so hard..
Review 84:great beds, good breakfast, super staff.
Review 85:There is a set of train tracks that run right behind the hotel. It wound up not causing us any issues with sleeping, but caught is off guard. The continental breakfast was delicious, but pure chaos (too few chairs, poor layout, and things frequently ran out). There is also no longer HBO (not a deal-breaker, of course). The wifi password changes on Mondays and the front desk doesn't let you know that ahead of time. We had some problems with getting anyone to pick up the phone to get the new one (may have been a system problem?), and wound up needing to walk downstairs to get the new password. None of these things were terrible, but just weird little quirks I'd hoped to avoid when paying so much for a room.
Review 86:The rooms and common areas are nice and cozy feeling. The staff is friendly. We says in a King suite and there are 2 TVs in the room with a nice living room area. The location is ok if you're trying to keep costs down by not staying in canal park.
Review 87:The rooms were small, the free breakfast featured powdered eggs baked into a round disc that was flavorless. The staff cleanup in the breakfast room was negligent. The only table available to us had wet food spilled all over the table and the floor beneath. The staff were not accommodating of changes that we wanted.
Review 88:The rooms were clean and there were enough blankets available.
Review 89:Staff was rude & unhelpful Breakfast service was out of stock and took a while to reload.
Review 90:Room was clean & large. Pool and Hot tub were great!
Review 91:Before we even got to the hotel we were already having troubles. Rather than taking the first nights cost as a deposit like they were suppose to, the hotel took the entire stays cost out of my account which left me with no money during a 5 hour car trip and the first 24 hours we were in Duluth. There really isn't much you can do when you have no money and you're on vacation. Bill issues were really a constant trouble throughout the whole trip but were finally settled upon check-out (go figure). The house keeping was so-so. From what I saw it seems to me that they cleaned what they felt like cleaning. When we first got there the maid had failed to remove forgotten belongings from the previous guest in that room and there was garbage on the floor. To me it seemed that they did the very bare minimum of cleaning. For the price it was a somewhat decent hotel. But I won't be staying there again. Perhaps one would be better off paying a bit more somewhere else if that means better service and conditions.
Review 92:Some of the staff was very nice and very helpful. It was nice to have a microwave and fridge in the room. The price was good.
Review 93:paid twice fro the room as, unfortunately, they apparently bill your credit card the day before you check-in when you've booked on Booking.com. I paid cash for the room at check-in and no one advised that the room was already charged to my credit car the previous day!!!
Review 94:excellent breakfast choices and large breakfast room spacious room and comfortable bed
Review 95:Location was too close to the highway - very busy highway, and heard traffic all night long. Also, other guests were not respectful by slamming doors until very late in the night. On the expensive side...
Review 96:Easy access off highway, great breakfast, clean, comfortable room
Review 97:Parking lot and breakfast nook can get overcrowded, but not a reason not to stay here.
Review 98:We always look for a hotel with an indoor pool, free breakfast and wifi, and any additional facilities are a plus. This hotel had everything we needed. We had a good overnight stay.
Review 99:It is right along the main road so the road traffic was a little noisy but not bad.
Review 100:The hotel was very inviting and clean. The pool was nice and clean, the room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff attended to our needs right away. I would definately stay here again.
Review 101:It's getting old - needs upgrading for Best Western PLUS designation. We prefer second sink - rather than separate living room.
Review 102:Location - for highway convenience.
Review 103:Had to bus our table for breakfast and didn't appreciate the sarcasm of the woman refilling coffee urns, I was just making friendly conversation and her reply was rude and unacceptable..sorry
Review 104:Everything was very nice and loved the heated pool!!!
Review 105:Coffee, while available 24/7, was weak.
Review 106:Hotel and facilities were very attractive and well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good with nice variety.
Review 107:First night the hot tub was too cool and didn't seem clean, but was improved greatly the second night. Some other reviewers complained of the train nearby, but it didn't bother us (barely went by).
Review 108:Location was good, although it was not right in Canal Park it was close to Duluth and had enough around it for convenience. Continental breakfast and variety was good.
Review 109:Our room was right next to train tracks, and could hear the train every night. Could also hear every time the neighboring rooms used the shower/tub, and sink.
Review 110:Room was comfortable, clean
Review 111:Room was dirty when we arrived. Far from Duluth and no shuttle offered. Low quality breakfasts. Limited options.
Review 112:Cookies available all the time. Front desk manager.
Review 113:*the pillows were very bad *the bedding was lumpy (mattress pad) and fitted sheet kept slipping off the corners *personnel were helpful when asked, but often didn't make eye contact or greet us as we entered even though they were not busy at the desk
Review 114:*room space was great *room had everything we might need *easy to get on and off onto Hwy 35
Review 115:Room looked out over the roof of the building and satellite dish--not very interesting. Décor needs to be updated--seemed old. Nothing really close by except McDonalds.
Review 116:It was easy to find. Price was OK.
Review 117:The rates would have been too high if we hadn't used booking.com this time. The room was just not as clean as usual with beat-up information cards and hair in the bathroom. there were also unwrapped paper drinking cups left on the desk when we arrived.
Review 118:We like staying here when our family travels to Duluth. Parking is easy.
Review 119:not enough parking, had to park way in the back, television channels not correct of the card, could not find HBO
Review 120:great location, wonderful complimentary breakfast, great room
Review 121:Noisy room, creaky floorboards in room above ours. Could hear everyone in hall. Lumpy mattress.
Review 122:Clean, 2 TVs in king suite, microwave and mini fridge, free wi-fi, friendly check-in staff, convenient parking.
Review 123:Our room was close to the lobby, where some guests liked to stay ip all night and drink.
Review 124:Location, and it was very clean
Review 125:Our spa tub was perfect
Review 126:Close to highway
Review 127:Close to ski slopes Clean
Review 128:Pool, sauna, free breakfast
Review 129:Friendly Staff, Clean, Excellent Value
Review 130:Great stay!!!!!
Review 131:During a power outage we were stuck in the elevator. The staff was awesome in their response, attentiveness and good humor.
Review 132:Pool was a little on thw cold side
Review 133:Room and staff awesome
Review 134:No bad experience
Review 135:Every thing in general
Review 136:The parking was a bit cramped.
Review 137:The comfort of the room and the great breakfast.
