Reviews for Charleston Plaza Hotel
Review 1:I think they are overhauling the whole hotel. The smell in the halls was nauseating! Smelled like dead mice. Rooms were fine. Shampoo was not replaced and I stepped on a small piece of glass in the shower.
Review 2:Staff was friendly, welcoming, smiling. Felt very safe. Pool area clean. Rooms were comfortable. Easy access to shopping, Downtown Charleston, Airport. Shuttle included which was nice.
Review 3:carpets were old, stained and dirty. TV and air conditioning didn't work. We did advise the front desk - the tv was fixed but it took the second day to fix the air conditioning. Will not stay there again. the rating of 7.5 is not correct - the system is not pulling correctly.
Review 4:The bartender wasn't the best. The food took more than 1 hour, and it was not worth the wait. I enjoyed having room service, but it was very expensive.
Review 5:The room could have been vacuumed fould pills on the floor and I had a toddler with me...
Review 6:The room was very nice and cozy. Would stay again when I come back to Charleston.
Review 7:sink, in bathroom drained painfully slow, pillows were many, but not very comfortable, paint peeling in bathroom on ceiling, caulking around tub peeling off, broken glass scattered ,around outside window, corrosion on piping for toilet, tub not laebled for hot and cold, tub was clean but slippery due to no slip hazard strips of any kind.dresser scratched up pretty good, this is a good chop list for room 616, I would also suggest you incorporate a new vendor for tv that would provide a on screen guide like most tv providers have ie.comcast, direct, att
Review 8:lobby , pool was nice, girlfriend said comforters were very soft, staff very friendly, especially anthony gilliard.went out of his way to make sure we were having a great day even though he was a cowboys fan!!! lol
Review 9:Website states there is free airport shuttle every 30 minutes. We had a plane to catch at 5:15 AM and were told that there would not be shuttle service available at the time we needed to get to the airport we had to hire a taxi. Had we known there would not be a shuttle at that time of the morning we would have stayed elsewhere
Review 10:Took 30 minutes to check in. Desk clerk had to go to three different computers to check in. The hotel clerk types like three words a minute. The beds are very hard. The shower had sand and hair in it. The sink drain was broken. You get what you pay for I guess.
Review 11:The hotel is relatively nice for the price.
Review 12:We booked a king sized room six weeks in advance. When we got to the hotel after being on our feet from 7am to 10p.m. we were told they were out of kings and "upgraded" us to a business room. The beds in this room were small. I didn't need a fridge, I paid for a larger bed. Hotel is more dated then expected. Wont be staying there again.
Review 13:Room was fairly clean.
Review 14:This is an older hotel till the carpet really good used replacement because there is a smell that still lingered even after using a deodorizer. As you get off the elevator you will be able to see the areas in which has been tried it on by all the customers so the carpet really needs to be replaced.
Review 15:The convenience of being able to get to the tutoring areas quickly.
Review 16:Only bad thing was durnin checkout the halls smelled kinda of funny, vacuum bags might need to be clean more often.......
Review 17:Overall everything was GREAT....
Review 18:The carpet could stand to be replaced and the air conditioner had old carpeting that was loose and falling off the front and lapping over in the floor. The tv was fuzzy like a bad reception and only had about 30 channels. The outdoor pool had a few spots where clumps of green algae had grown around the top that seems like could have been an easy fix. Some staff were extremely friendly and helpful but the older lady at the desk was extremely slow, extremely confused, and extremely confusing. She also screwed up our second night so they held a second $25 fee on us that didn't get released until after we had gotten back home, which made $50 in total. Our daughter had an accident on the bed the first night and they assured me that the house keeping would change the sheets and they didn't. I had to tell then 3 times before it was fixed, and I being a female with female monthly concerns, and my daughter being in diapers, I wanted liners in our trash cans, but when I asked for them the maid left a note saying they didn't use them, yet they left them for us anyway.... so that was good in a way but confusing still... all in all I would consider staying there again for the price and location.
Review 19:It was clean with great amenities. We loved the indoor outdoor pool and it had a large fitness room. You could tell they were trying to renovate and upgrade the property and even though you could tell it is an older motel it was fairly well kept and clean and the upgrades they have done are nice.
Review 20:Trash cans still had trash in them. Toilet paper roll had no toilet paper. Bed was nice looking, but when I actually went to get in bed, I found the Eco Friendly housekeeping sign that says "Please change the sheets or do not" tucked UNDER the top sheet. So it made me think the sheets had not been changed from the last guests.
Review 21:The location convenience and the front desk people were very nice.
Review 22:Our bathroom was dirty upon our arrival and the toilet paper roll had not been changed. There was about half of a roll left. The next morning after the maid cleaned the room, the toilet paper roll still had not been changed nor had the bathroom garbage been emptied.
Review 23:Beautiful lounge area downstairs. Nice indoor pool.
Review 24:The pool was closed for a family reunion on the only day we could use the pool and we were not made aware of this when booking reservations. We would not have stayed had we known.
Review 25:Clean and comfortable bed
Review 26:Had to get a bulb replaced, coffee pod left in coffee maker- just little housekeeping issues but when I called they thoroughly addressed each issue and fixed them.
Review 27:Room was very comfortable with refrigerator and good bed. They drove us to and from the NC performing arts center on a Saturday night which was an excellent amenity.
Review 28:Photos of the hotel are misleading. Much older than it appears and needs updating. Was in a room that use to be a smoking room... smell still lingers. Bathroom was not the cleanest ...
Review 29:Staff was wonderful....lobby was well maintained . Bedding was very nice.
Review 30:The room was very small, carpet was very diety, lamp shade was dirty and broken. Air didn't cool well, bathroom never got cool because it's just a window unit. Pool was nice but green mold was growing around the steps. They charge your card 25$ just in case and then it takes 3 to 5 days to put it back in your account.
Review 31:The breakfast was good. The lobby was pretty.
Review 32:When we got to are room there was no toilet paper and when I called no one showed up with it like they told me they would do so half hour later I went and got it
Review 33:It was clean.
Review 34:Ceilings needed repairing, along with broken framed art, stained carpets. No free breakfast or microwave.
Review 35:good location, pool was nice..A/C worked nicely.
Review 36:No microwave or refrigerator in the room. Our view out the window was a truck company.
Review 37:The bed was very comfortable and the location was decent. The staff was very friendly.
Review 38:Air condition made part of our carpet wet. Upon leaving, we let the front desk know for future people that stay.
Review 39:Affordable hotel not to far from everything :)
Review 40:NO fault of the hotel but it was unseasonably HOT weather! Put a damper on what we could do, and then the indoor pool was shut down because of partiers the night before.
Review 41:The place was nice, the front desk folk were so so busy!
Review 42:As I was without a car for a few hours, I did not like that I had to pay over $10 for breakfast. A free continental breakfast would have been nice or discount for staying at the hotel. The service in the restaurant was extemely slow.
Review 43:It was a great deal for hotel. The mattress was very comfortable!
Review 44:This hotel needs to be remodeled. The bathrooms very outdated. The pool area lounge chairs etc. were filthy, trash around the lounge area. The towels were dingy and stained.
Review 45:The inside entrance to the registration counter.
Review 46:Rooms are decent but could use a little TLC; they were rough around the edges. Breakfast is $11 per person, we skipped it.
Review 47:Common areas are elegant and inviting. Close to the highway and about 10 minutes to downtown Charleston.
Review 48:Staff failed to notify housekeeping that my room had not been cleaned. Housekeeping did an overall good job, but room for improvement. Rooms lamps were not working, old worn out and shoddy. Had to ask to get one lamp replaced.
Review 49:Room was mainly nice, bed was good.
Review 50:The hallways were 100 degrees and you broke out in a sweat if you wereanywhere outside of your room the cabanas out by the pool area weremildewed and dripped dirty water if you sat under them the lounge chairswere cloth and were always wet if u wanted to sit down as well as somewere torn our linen on bed was dingy as well as the top blanket that wassuppose to be white we ended up buying linen at the local walmart we hadother couples who also. Came down and rented a room they were alsounhappy I also didnt like the fact that they dont tell you about the feefor incidentals I will never stay here again
Review 51:Location
Review 52:Carpet,chair needed cleaning, wasn't explained that breakfast wasn't included, had to pay $24 dollars for breakfast.
Review 53:The convenience to the outlet area
Review 54:Where do I begin. I am partially handicapped...I Use a cane.Registration desk is a mile from the front door. I checked in afterhaving requested a room on the first floor, close to the door in thearea specified online. Nope...didn't happen. I got a room on the 6thfloor a mile from the elevators. Parking was absurd. I had to park sofar away I was dripping in sweat by the time I made it to the door. Myreservation was for two days...nonrefundable of course. But my room wasso "unfriendly" I checked out a day early...less than 24 hoursafter checking in. I don't care that it cost me an extra $110. Ofcourse I asked for a refund and the girl just "smiled."I'm a world traveler and this ranks very near the top of myunpleasant experiences. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone whocannot run in a triathlon!
Review 55:Room was decent.
Review 56:Booked prior to flying. Was charged then, and when we arrived they asked for our debit card to reserve a $25 fee for incidentals, that would be returned upon our check out. We were charged again for our stay and the incidental fee. Upon checkout they asked us how we wanted to pay? Seriously? They assured us that we would not be charged again. Offered no help to fix the situation, and the boss was gone for several days after we returned home so it took right at 7 days to get our money back. Completely unprofessional. Incompetent. Average room. Not worth the money. Beware.
Review 57:The lobby is nice.
Review 58:There was nothing not to like
Review 59:Fabulous hotel the front desk personnel couldn't have been nicer. Close to the airport and the shuttle drivers to and from the were awesome as well. Great lounge for a drink or dinner.
Review 60:Could not adjust the thermostat. Room was always stuffy. Small fridgedid not work. Hallway stunk so bad and had no air condition running init. Did not get good reception on tv. Found several bugs on floor. Andto many conferences going on at one time. Breakfast was out rageous inprice. I got a cup of coffee and a small glass of milk to go and itwas $9.00.
Review 61:Only meet a few staff members and the only one that even spoke to me,that didn't have to was the maid that had my room. Only stayed for 2nights and had no need for service only towels. Caught in the hall thesecond morning and she ask did I want my bed made. And I gave her my wettowels and she gave me fresh one. She asked me again about my bed. Shewas extremely friendly and polite.
Review 62:Loudest air conditioner ever! Didn't get any sleep the first night. The maids didn't make up our room after our first night. (We only stayed 2 nights). The ironing board was so bent we had to prop it against a chair. TV was unplugged and someone had to come and figure that out because it looked plugged in. All around torture.
Review 63:The lobby
Review 64:The hotel was beautiful. It had a very nice lobby, and gorgeous pool area. The room was nice and clean, no complaints! Oh and checkout was at 12pm, an hour later than we are used to. We were able to relax before checkout.
Review 65:Stayed 2 nights and had to chase down someone to bring us toilet paper. There was barely any when we arrived and they didn't get any after cleaning the room after the first night.
Review 66:Loved the location right off the highway. Easy drive to downtown area. Great prices. Pool was good enough.
Review 67:Exceptionally dirty facility. No phones in rooms. What hotel doesn't have a phone?! All other hotels offered shuttle service from airport. This hotel informed us upon arrival that shuttle service stopped at 11:00pm. I just watched the Sheraton van drive away while and cried...before turning around to my wife and 2 kids to tell them I'd clearly made a horrible, horrible mistake. Upon arrival we also found the "double room" was two full beds, not queens. Buyer beware!
Review 68:Nothing
Review 69:Charge for incidentals is 30% of cost of room, per night! Just beprepared for them to "hold" this money = important for thoseon a budget.
Review 70:Staff was polite and professional. Quiet, did not hear my"neighbors". You can tell it's an older hotel, but theyhave cleaned it up very well.
Review 71:Didn't have a hair dryer in the room! What hotel doesn't have a hair dryer in the bathroom?! Guest services did bring one up in a timely manner.
Review 72:We got no sleep! Partiers in room next to us!! Tried to complain to someone when we checked out but no one to talk to & can't get anyone to call me back! That is my biggest disappointment.
Review 73:Nice staff
Review 74:The mattress was too hard for me. It was very firm. My husband loved it, but I woke up stiff and sore. Once I got moving around, it was all good.
Review 75:The staff was very friendly and they were so busy when I checked in. They kept a smile on their faces the entire time.
Review 76:Not much to complain about except new release pay-per-views were about $17! That is way over priced.
Review 77:I liked that the hotel was really pretty and next to everything! Outlets across the street, downtown was 15minutes away and Mt Pleasant was 15 minutes away. Our room was clean and comfortable.
Review 78:They put a hold on your money on your card. Didn't say nothing about this on the website.
Review 79:The staff was very nice and the beds was comfortable. Very clean
Review 80:Our First room was dirty. The used condoms in the first room were extremely unsettling. We were moved to a different room, but still questioned the cleanliness of the rest of the stay
Review 81:Staff was very friendly.
Review 82:I did not like that I reserved room in my name and the room was under my guest name- the check in lines were long and because of this I had to hop out of line go get my confirmation information then get back into the longer check in line- my advice would be even if you are staying with guest(s) just put your name versus their name online to eliminate confusion during check in.
Review 83:The staff seemed professional and friendly- the pool and workout room was cool- location is not bad considering it's N. Charleston because once you hop on I26 downtown Charleston is not that far to drive- lastly for women the outlet is like literally 5 mins away.
Review 84:could not figure out how to connect wifi. we simply should have called the front desk and ask but Jay not to
Review 85:maintenance man was awesome great customer service always smiling and eager to help when we had to move rooms because the TV did not allow us to rent a movie then later that TV will not allow us to a movie with a smile on his face he returned eager to help
Review 86:There was no toilet tissue - we asked for some to be brought to the room. It didn't arrive - we then expected a supply when the room was made up. It didn't happen - fortunately we had purchased some.
Review 87:Close proximity to the airport. Convenient for retail outlets.
Review 88:My husband both suffer with allergies. The air conditioner vents needed cleaning, the carpet had stains where previous guests spilled beverages, the curtains did not close properly and there wasn't a stopper for the tub.
Review 89:Price, comfort, location, and friendliness of front desk staff was the most acceptable.
Review 90:Attitude of the check-in personal. No access to room on second day, had to go to front desk. Room was not clean with litter on carpet and AC ran off and on every three minutes. Had to call for bed makeup second day.
Review 91:Quietness of the of the Hotel.
Review 92:The bright beauty of this place stopped at our guest room door. While the bedding seemed brand new and crisp, everything else about the room was tired. Marks on walls, an old toilet which barely flushed, poorly functioning sink fixutres, stained upholstery on the easy chair and dust covering the tables. Maintenance and housekeeping need a lot of upgrading at this property.
Review 93:The Charleston Plaza staff was delightful, friendly and acccommodating. The lobby was bright and beautiful.
Review 94:Bathroom was dirty upon check-in. When we reported to the front desk, they offered to move us. We already had our stuff in the room so we said we didn't want to move but we're heading out for dinner. We assumed they would take care of it while we were out. We were wrong.
Review 95:Nice main floor and convenient to I-26 and downtown Charleston
Review 96:Believe it or not, the bed was too soft for me. Since I have a bad back I prefer a firm mattress.
Review 97:The restaurant and bar were excellent. Very friendly staff. The room was clean as were all areas of the hotel that I visited.
Review 98:No dislikes
Review 99:Needed 1 night stay, surprised to find very clean, spacious rooms, free breakfast and shuttle services. The staff was very accommodating, very helpful and friendly. Next time in Charleston I am staying here.
Review 100:There was no refrigerator or microwave in the room. The beds were not that comfortable. The smell of the hotel (especially when people are doing drugs in it) was horrible.
Review 101:The location was the only good part about the hotel.
Review 102:WiFi was a little slow. The bathrooms definitely need to be upgraded, in particular the shower/tubs. New appliances are needed such as, the mini refrigerator, and the hair dryers. The one we had did not work at all.
Review 103:Fresh linens everyday was very nice. The facilities appeared to be nice
Review 104:I booked online with no problem knowing I had to put in my age so they seen I was not 21 however when I get there they then want to tell me I cannot stay. PUT THE AGE ONLINE !!!!!!
Review 105:I like the fact that the employee made our stay comfortable as possible. Our room wasnt ready at first, but once we arrived we were taking care of with much respect and kindness!!!
Review 106:Hotel shuttle never picked us up from Starbucks after jason aldean concert. Called and they said shuttle would be there by 11 and after waiting and waiting finally a police chief saw us standing outside Starbucks close to midnight waiting for a ride and gave us a free ride back and upon return we see the shuttle sitting at the hotel. Not a good way to retain business!
Review 107:The carpet by the door to the room is torn up and frayed. The blinds were stained and didn't close.
Review 108:The bed sheets and pillows were clean, the WiFi is completely free and fast. The toilet is clean.
Review 109:I stayed 2 times in this hotel in past 2 months. And i am sorry to say that I didn't like the staff at the front desk. Unfriendly and unhelpful. i went there on two occasions, to ask question about dining and transportation to the airport, and every time there was a different female working but unfortunately they both behaved like I am bothering them. To make things worse lady that was checking me in, when i asked about dining said i can pay my dinner and submit my receipt to be reimbursed. When i asked to who she said to Carnival. She apparently confused me with their crew. too make things worse she was giving me some luggage that was not even belonging to me. Never received an apology from her. Maybe someone should explain them that not every foreigner in your hotel works for Carnival. Further on when i went to buy water at the reception, they did not had any left. You would think you will get an apology and explanation where to get some water. But no. i had to ask and ask... Never got a single smile from ladies at the front desk. I felt very very unwelcome there.
Review 110:Room was nice and clean, housekeeping staff polite and courteous.
Review 111:Staff standing at desk while 2 women are pulling luggage cart to parking lot, no assistance was offered.
Review 112:Room was held even though the flight was 3 hours late. Room was easily found and very clean. Beds were very comfortable.
Review 113:pool area was dirty. room was very dirty. blood on a clean hand towel in the bathroom. no toilet paper, no one at the desk so I took the toilet paper out of the pool/exercise bathrooms. boom was so dirty it smelled like horse urine.
Review 114:staff was excellent - that is the only reason I didn't leave and go to another hotel across the street.
Review 115:Carpet in rooms dirty No hot water in shower in first room.
Review 116:Some staff really nice. Other staff did not act as if they wanted you there. Lobby was beautiful.
Review 117:The first room we were put in had numerous carpet stains, dirty linen a d a cracked mirror on sliding door. We requested a new room and waited 20 minutes to get keys. Next room still dirty looking and another crack in mirror which our child could have sliced his hand on. We were just too tired to pack up again. Very unclean feeling, and run down rooms.
Review 118:My family and I travel quite a bit throughout the year and although yourlobby and banquet areas are beautiful, the rooms are in a poorcondition. When do you plan to renovate the rooms? Start with microfridges and change the furniture (especially the suede chair with thestains and the loud ac unit that leaks water on the carpet)
Review 119:Upon check in the air in my room wasn't working, someone quickly came to check it out and realized it was broken.. We were immediately given a suite with not extra charge.. The service was great.
Review 120:We stayed here specifically for the indoor pool. I expected it to be heated but it was not. (The weather was unseasonably warm though). No safe in the room was a concern for us but we had no security issues.
Review 121:Our stay was nice. Staff was friendly. Room was clean.
Review 122:I ordered room service - after two hours called to check on it only to be told it was waiting for me to pick up and when I didn't show they canceled I reordered and went down to pick up and they had no record if my order. It took 3 1/2 hours to get breakfast.
Review 123:There was a leak in the ceiling in the main lobby and looked as is it had been present for quite a while. The carpet in the room was stained and the toilet paper dispenser didn't work properly. The hallway on the 3rd floor was not air conditioned or ventilated and was rippling. There was no gift shop.
Review 124:Housekeeping staff was very nice and did a good job.
Review 125:I like it when the people who check you in are welcoming and our gal was-wish I could remember her name! You can check on that. Our room was clean and easily accessible to the elevator. All was good. The staff were all nice. I'll be back again!
Review 126:After an all black group rented out the ballroom, they crowded the hallways and made my family and I feel VERY unwelcome
Review 127:Proximity to shopping Nice swimming pools Delicious food with big menu Clean common areas
Review 128:I was expecting a holiday inn but you guys impressed me and that is not easy. The night time staff was excellent after a 8hour drive it was refreshing. The day crew also very helpful. The pool could have been a little better managed but over all rooms were surprisingly nice.
Review 129:The air conditioning was broken when we checked in, room service was poor to atrocious, the knob on the bathroom faucet fell off in my hand upon first use. The only good point of the room was the maintenance staff fixing the issues quickly.
Review 130:The lobby and pool areas were beautiful.
Review 131:I personally am not a fan of a firm mattress so that was somethig I didn't like but I did get some shut eye so that's all that matters. The breakfast buffet was standard but it was okay. I'm not sure if I would pay 10.95 for a standard buffet.
Review 132:Came to the hotel for a mini vacation with my sisters. My little sister is going to Cofc so we wanted to make it a last hoorah. It was great. The staff was so nice and respectful. The hotel was just great!
Review 133:Only gave us two towels for a family of four, only one cup decaf coffee per room, over charged us 180$, hotel hasn't credited that money back and doesn't know where those charges came from. Restaurant has very little selection is is very pricy, food is terriable, bar is just as bad. If u stay there double check ur online banking account several times to watch for charges!!!
Review 134:The pool was nice, rooms clean and bed comfortable
Review 135:Extremely noisy rooms due to the air conditioning machines and the highway. I stayed 2 nights and after the 1st night asked for a change to avoid the noise and the 2nd room was almost as noisy as the 1st one. No breakfast included
Review 136:Confortable beds, good quality price relationship. Nice pool. Good location
